Agreed. I read somewhere that 'Bodies' was a 'pro-hardcore' song. I understand what was meant, but that's probably a very real stretch. 'Belsen' is also right alongside it, too

@@WhyNotGoPlacesIt's very arch and pointed - waapish, even - and I think they intended to make a definitive break with US punk origins and establish a British aesthetic. The scathing use of the term 'Sambo' is interesting - if my interpretation holds water, they were highlighting the unspoken racism of the metropolitan 'hipater' scene - and remarkably ahead of the curve. The Antz attempted something similar with lines like 'Gonna light up a beacon on a Puerto Rican', which needed to be clarified as anti-racist irony, at a time when punk could have gone 'either way', politically....

I LOVE NMTB album. My band covered Pretty Vacant and Submission back in the day. The first one I played and probably still my favorite is God Save The Queen. I read about them in a High Times mag, went to my local record store (Cincinnati, Ohio) and bought it and Rockets to Russia (The Ramones). I was a Southern Rock fan at the time. First listen to GSTQueen blew me away! Loved it. Me and my southern rock drummer found and joined a punk rock band up near the U of Cincinnati. A guy from Youngstown Ohio came to college. He was the first real "punk rocker" I met.

God Save the Queen is a fantastic song. The guitar is amazing. I remember High Times Magazine. I first heard about the Sex Pistols in Rock Scene magazine, and also Creem. I love hearing about how people were first turned on to punk rock. For me, if it wasn't for the rock mags, I would never have known what was going on in music. My older siblings never even went to a concert or bought any records at all. I was kind of a freak in my house. Thanks again for watching my video!

I just simply dismiss Great RnR Swindle because it is a McLaren doing and the band's demise time. Not a fan whatsoever. How I despise him. When he died, he left nothing to his only son. Son never did anything wrong to his father. Miser, band wrecker, wife beater. Yep. He used to hit Vivienne Westwood and keep her inside if she wanted to go out. Among other things. Narcissist, sadist, taking credit for Johnny's work. True folks 😮

The early B-sides - "Satellite", "Wanna Be Me" - both have a feeling or sense of what the band could have been. Both have something of a Dickensian feel - Not sure what I really mean here, but they sound more seventies. Beyond these, I agree with you, the SPUNK recording far outweighs the Bollocks album, which, essentially, is a regular rock album with the addition of having two or three of the best RnR songs of all time. x

@@WhyNotGoPlaces I suppose the rarity would be down to what the number was when first printed etc minor details or even flaws in the packaging that is not found on other pressings... My copy went on an involuntary walk about some decades ago, I was 13 years old in 1979, and the pistols had already disbanded. The album itself is perfect...they didn't ever need to record another album or have done things differently in their career; the slightest deviation from the course they were on may have been catastrophic for their legacy...we are still here talking about the pistols and listening to their music. The reason I'm envious is that you have an original copy and I don't. Keep up the great channel, you have taken to it like a duck to water...

Never Mind the Bollocks is the only LP that really matters. Pretty Vacant's A-Octave-Fifth (E)-A double time arpeggiated guitar chord followed by rolling thunder kick drum & floor toms is one of the greatest intros of Rock History, as is the haunting "Cheap Holidays in Other People's Misery" Death March of Holidays in the Sun. Anarchy in the UK is an iconic Punk Anthem, and God Save the Queen is the Death Knell of the benighted British Empire. Sid Vicious & Co's cameo at the end of Goodfellas a fitting tribute. But after all the Sound & Fury Signifying Nothing, at least the boys will always have Christmas in Huddersfield. Good times despite all the bullshit.

I doubt you’re still checking comments on this one but just in case. I worked at Licorice Pizza on North Lake Ave. in Pasadena back in 1978. I think it was there that I bought my UK import copy (yellow cover) of NMTBHTSP. (You may remember JEMS, the record distributor in New Jersey that slapped their stickers on many imports back in the day.). Anyway, my version is a special one with a catalogue number called “SPOTS 001”. It came with “Submission” on a free one-sided 7” single (not mentioned on the main album sleeve), and a giant poster - which is fantastic. It also came with a sticker (in various colors) on the shrink wrap that said “UK PRESSING includes one-sided single & Pistols poster” with a small Virgin logo underneath and “SPOTS 001” in the bottom left corner. Well me being the bright person I am, knowing what was inside I tossed the shrink wrap and the sticker - thus unknowingly lowering the future value by several hundred dollars! 😢

Sid Sings was a collection of live material taken from his shows in NYC. Except Chinese Rocks which is the Sex Pistols with Sid on vocals doing a sound check at the last UK show at Ivanhoes. Johnny Thunders never played with Sid. Steve Dior played guitar with him in NYC. Mick Jones also played at one show. Some Product is a collection of interviews. Flogging a Dead Horse is a dodgy collection of some of the singles. Hope this helps🤠.

I liked Anarchy in the UK on the Spunk album. It sounds really raw. If that version were to be remastered and cleaned up, it would probably be better than the one on Never Mind the Bollocks. I was only 11 when the Sex Pistols came out and didn't hear of them until 1986 when I discovered Punk and Alternative. A lot of your albums look like boot legs. Very cool covers. My favorite songs are Anarchy in the UK, and I'm not your stepping stone. I want to go back to your other videos bc it sounds like you have a lot of stories and met some great musicians.

It's amazing that the Never mind LP still holds up. It still sounds fresh and exciting after all these years. By the way, I'm trying to figure out why you look so familiar. I think we've met before or we used to hang out in the same circles back in the day. Does the name Jeff Chandler sound familiar? We played in a band together, scarecrows. He used to hang out at the mask back in the day.

Also saw The Germs there too. I wish I took photos or had video back then!

Massively important band for U.K. music. The Manchester Free Trade Hall gig of 1976 inspired The Buzzcocks, Joy Division, The Fall. In the audience were also Martin Hammett & and the late great Tony Wilson. Wearing God Save The Queen T-shirt as I write this 🤣 🤘😝🤘

Hi Maggie again! I thought I would watch this again because it was the first video I saw of you and your collection. I only have the Bollocks album. I didn't even know that the other ones were out on vinyl! I know of a couple of them but oh boy. My knowledge in comparison with yours is poor. I thought I was a true fan! Well, I am and it's people like you who educate people like myself who might not know of certain LPs and other recordings. I really hate the Great RnR Swindle as it was Malcolm's idea of what 'his' band were made of. As Johnny put it ' he didn't write the songs, go on tour or help us in any way. So Malcolm has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. I read that he used to be sadistic towards Vivienne Westwood who was his partner for some time. Anyway, I am so happy that you have a great audience for your videos. It's terrific what you do considering how long ago it was. Shows you that we never really grow up and always will love whatever it is that we love no matter what. Cheers Maggie baby cakes 🍰

You can’t but rise a crude smirk when you Americans say things like “I love spunk” , I’m sure your well aware of what you are doing by saying that but we tend to use that word in a lot different context to the American way of using it….. Hence why the label was called “Blank” , I.e. they were “firing blanks” ….it was all crude in-jokes. , just like how we tend to use the word “fags” in a totally different way to you Americans .. I’ve loved your reminiscences of your time on the front line of it all happening , you’ve a great channel. The album title “Flogging a dead horse” is another very U.K. expression that kinda meant what you use when you say “he jumped the shark” …kinda! …..Virgin were acknowledging the fact that they were wringing the very last penny out of their limited back catalogue …l.but I’m sure you know all that anyway?
