I seen the trailer for this movie a year after I seen the Ratchet and Clank movie being advertised. The poster for that movie had a tagline, "Let's kick some asteroid!" And then I seen the main character of this movie say the same thing. So, I assumed this was trying to catch the limelight of the R&C movie. (Not that it was that big anyways.)
Shipmaster Crook They should of used Vul, Pine, Cani, or even Nine, Vulpine means Fox-like And everyone knows what a Canine is xD (or I hope so) Since foxes are both Vulpines and Canines
That's probably the most successful adaptation ever made. Whenever I heard "Goku", I never thought of Journey to the West. I thought, "Oh yeah, that's the short, stumpy kid/big, beefcake guy from Dragon Ball/DBZ!". Dragon Ball is the main reason I know about Journey to the West, to be honest.
@@TheDr502 to be fair Son Goku is the japanese name which is only well known in Japan, Sun Wukan is the chinese name and the one most people are fammiliar with world wide.
"I wounder why this movie was never shown in china?" *Movie shows a military force over throwing a monarchy as evil, and the monarchy as good* Yes saber. I wonder why. xD
9:20 - The Lion King did that. In "I Just Can't Wait to Be King", Zazu gets trampled by a herd of animals and survives it with only his feathers ruffled. Not even half an hour later, Mufasa gets trampled by another herd of animals and we all know how that works out...
Anthro Characters work depending on their designs and the writing of the story. It worked in the Secret of Nihm. It doesn't work in Sheep and Wolves. Then again Animals with extremely humanized features like breasts or Pectoral region looks really weird to me.
This movie might not be good, but i'm always interested in more space/adventure animated movies. I guess that's why Treasure Planet is one of my favorite Disney movies.
Yeah, he doesn't seem to care if he's playing Macbeth or a poop emoji. I don't think he's in it for the money, so I imagine he just really likes acting.
He, like most people these days, has had good jobs and bad jobs. And you don't always know going in that it will be one or the other but you do the job anyway because that's life.
Theory 1: $$$ Theory 2: desperately trying to keep his career alive Theory 3: the Sam L. Jackson effect (makes turning down roles impossible) Theory 4: pick jobs via dartboard Theory 5: British absurdist humor about self for his own enjoyment
Seriously, this animation is amazing (especially on Vix). If Toonbox is having trouble applying it to something good, I hope a bigger company sees the animation talent and picks it up.
So Saber, I have two questions for you... 1) why are you awesome? 2) How long did it take you to find and *specifically choose* that drawing of Vix ...
This obsession with CGI is killing low-budget studio animation. You CANNOT make decent-looking CGI unless you dump the budget of many small countries into it. Traditional has all manner of cost-cutting shortcuts which can be used AND be cost-controlled even further with computer programs that increase the speed and reduce the cost of cel production. In addition to that, WRITING!! IT'S IN THE WRITING!! If your animation looks shoddy, then the story is all you have to grab interest. Failing at BOTH is utter doom.
So as you are saying in short, companies should start doing 2D animation again. Really miss that type of animation. Don’t get much of it now a days due to people being lazy.
@@MegaGermanShepherds Well, unfortunately, it isn't about looking decent, it's about saving money. And 3D animation is absolutely cheaper than 2D animation in every respect, full stop... You are correct that GOOD cgi is more expensive than GOOD 2D, but mediocre 3D is way cheaper than mediocre 2D...That is why alot of smaller studios use it in the first place.
@@MegaGermanShepherds Hey ^^ I'm a student animator, mostly doing 3d digital but also do 2d traditional there are a *lot* of reasons why 3d is used instead of 2d nowadays (and i'm going to ignore the technical/visual growth stuff that Disney/Pixar/etc do and talk about purely animation stuff) tbh the biggest reason is the ease of making changes to *every* part of any shot you want to. you want to make a change to a character's clothing colour? open character's texture file, change the colour, and it's changed in *every* shot with that character in it. you want to move the camera/lights to change the mood of the scene? boom you can do it in like 5 clicks and get immediate feedback of what it'll be like none of this is to say that proper concept art/storyboarding/etc *shouldnt* be done because it absolutely should, but it gives the animators/director a lot more leeway to make changes after the fact, big or small. there's also that it lets the creative team be more specialised - your animators can focus specifically on making characters move instead of knowing how to draw as well as animate (imo they should know how to do both but, again, it's more choice) honestly i would LOVE to see more 2d animated films from big western studios but i can 100% see why they dont and i'm gonna try not to take the last bit too personally :p as ive met both super lazy 2d and 3d animators, and super motivated 2d and 3d animators
@@catanddogsoup and then there's just having the characters and sets be made beforehand and manipulating them like dolls as opposed to redrawing new assets for each and every pose. 3d animation really shines with this since you can just reload the same models over and over for each new scene and still produce something decent. modern 2d animation can sorta do this too but really akward and the animation community here on youtube will comment on this every so often.
@@skydog0_038 eh these things happen. he's a fan of animation I'm not suprised he fell into that trap. Still trying to figure out how I became a furry myself.
Seeing the fox character in the thumbnail shows that what we see is what we're going to get, and what we got was... well, it was something that had a lot of potential, but I can see why it bombed, and it's a real shame it did. I mean, you don't really see many sci-fi fantasy stories with anthropomorphic animals as the main characters, the only other one I can think of being the SatAM Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon.
@@tophatcat33kartoffel55 I can't remember what it's called but I know the film you're talking about. It was worse than Spark. It had a Wiimote in it. Not an actual Wiimote for a Wii console but an in-universe device that was literally just a giant Wiimote as the Mcguffin. Obviously for the tie-in game I assume they made. I've never come so close to walking out of a film in my life. If it hadn't been right at the end I just might have. Also the rest of the film was shit...and somehow it got a sequal!
You should look into Battle For Terra! A cool world premise with the exact same Dances w/Wolves plot we've seen a million times before, and REALLY quiet voice acting.
I think a big issue with this company is the fact that they so clearly try to mimic the designs of other animated films (which is odd, considering the movies they're copying their designs from aren't that memorable). Spark literally looks like a copy-paste version of Hamm from Space Chimps, and the characters in The Nut Job are so similar to Over The Hedge that I actually knew several people who thought it was an extension to that universe. I haven't seen this movie, but if the one main praise you give it is the character designs, I think it's important to recognize just how closely they resemble other films. Loved hearing a more balanced opinion though!
@@aleph1057 not all furries do or say that. In fact, a furry is actually someone who's a fan of anthropomorphic animals enough to make a fursona(an animal that represents you) and dress up as one. There are "those" kinds of furries, though... But they don't take up the entire community, if anything, they're a small part of it. And you don't need a fursuit to be a furry. :T
UóᴥòU Yes but it doesn’t mean a furry movie. Yes I understand furry culture is animals with human like features. But if it was a furry movie it would be directed to furrys.
@@goobert7923 i'm pretty sure whenever there are anthropomorphic characters in anything furries are gonna find and watch it haha. also this movie didn't HAVE to have animals with human features in it. it could have very well been just humans, it didnt have any point to bring across by using animals. but someone in the team specifically wanted to make this movie about anthro characters without it actually serving any purpose to the plot. it kiiiiinda seems like someone really wanted to make a sexy fox lady ;)
The whole Gangnam Style cross-promotion they had with Psy really felt out of place though, for a movie set in the 1960s. Especially so when the song had run it's course a year prior to the movie's release...
Okay-just from watching this video and PhantomsStrider, eh not that bad. But in serious, from seeing you criticize on him acting as child when he's not, I think they can could have fixed it by having the guardian figures, be SUPER overprotective-like saying he can't hold a knife to cut some food, because he could slip and fall on it, so he would want to prove himself that he's not a baby, and yeah it's reckless-but being raised in a non-trusting/overprotective home can lead to it? Other much more simpler thing: He just wanted to go for a ride for a way of freedom/curiously (it sounds like he never left his home?), then accidentally ran into the Kraken, in a state of panic when trying to escape he accidentally led it back to his home. (Auto Pilot of the mind.)
Hahaha, there's always bound to be NSFW Furry art of characters, even if they are from a movie that bombed. To be honest that's a bit unfair to say it's on par with Foodfight!, that film is just a disgusting hot mess. Spark on the other hand doesn't look bad but I do have to agree with everything you said is wrong with the movie, especially the lightning bolt thing.
This channel really is a gem i find your analysis's are quite illuminating and very appeal to the laymen(like my self) when it comes to animation. Its hard to make a good youtube channel that isn't based on drama, controversy, politics, or punching up/down in some industry. A good wholesome, informative, and non derivative youtube channel is as rare as 3D cartoon that doges the uncanney valley. Props!(and sub+like).
Everyone in this comment section screaming about how saber is a furry lmao You like bugs bunny? Mickey mouse? Disney's robin hood? Zootopia? GUESS YOU'RE A FURRY NOW
Honestly he iiiisss a bit focused on furry/anthro movies and I don’t think he’s a actual FULL-FLEDGED furry but uh.... ya gotta admit it’s pretty funny
