This is very well explained. I'm not much of a mechanic, but I live in a remote area. I have to do these things myself if I can. Or else I have to drive a long distance to a mechanic, leave my vehicle for a whole day, and pay a lot of money. Thank you for helping me Kflo.

This is the best video on tire alignment I have ever seen. You are a very smart and very generous man for sharing the knowledge. I am experienced at adjusting the toe in and toe out by myself. I may get ball joint spacers and want to be able to adjust the camber if it is affected. I've learned (the hard way) over the last 52 years of driving to ALWAYS do your own work or you will regret it for years and years afterwards. I'd rather cut my car up into little pieces than let a shop touch it at all. Nobody lets me work on their cars so why should I let somebody work on mine? The money has to come from somewhere.

Excellent video, best I've seen. Question on the camber bolts for the LCA...when making adjustments to the front camber bolt, do you need to adjust the rear camber bolt exactly the same amount as the front? I'm curious how the control arm behaves if you adjust the front but not the rear...
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 6 месяцев назад
Not necessarily needed to adjust the front similar to the back. It will adjust the caster a tiny bit though. Just make sure that at the end, after all of your adjustments, make sure that the toe is correct - that's the most important out of the 3 measurements

Awesome video. If the steering wheel is crooked after I had a "well known alignment shop" do my alignment, twice to fix this issue that was still off after I brought back into the shop..., would I just lock the steering wheel level and check all 3/ redo the alignment? Hesitant on taking it to the dealer to have the half a degree crooked steering wheel fixed, and the crooked steering wheel still be there, it just bothers me. Unless theres an easy adjustment with just using the tierod method? 2022 tacoma 4wd... Again awesome video thank you for sharing, much appreciated.

You really just need to check the toe angles as that's what deals with the straightness of the steering wheel

That was a really good video! I am still a little shady in the caster Dept. I did the 3" ifs blocks just have the diff and bar drop left but already some serious positive camber going on. I'm guessing I'm going to be turning these bolts as hard as I can in negative direction but does that nessisarily mean my caster will be affected? It is both front and back bolts on lower control arm I'm turning right 👍🏼?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 3 года назад
Yup, that's pretty much it on the LCA. I wouldn't worry too much about the caster at this point. The more important adjustment right now for you would be the toe then the camber.

First off, thanks for the video dude. Question on camber: is the goal to achieve zero camber? Or is it like Toe where a slight toe in is/can be the goal?
@ronniecotton9490
@ronniecotton9490 2 года назад
What would I start with if I have replaced both lowers and the toe was messed with before replacing control arms? I noticed control arm bushing were shot after I had already adjusted on toe.
@christophermurray7027
@christophermurray7027 Год назад
Hi, quick question. When you retighten the LCA bolts, doesn’t the truck need to be in its resting state with all the weight on the tires? I ask because an alignment shop tightened my LCA bolts when they were under full droop. This put the LCA bushings in a bind and created a loud popping noise when turning the wheel. I loosened the bolts and the bushings relaxed. No more popping. I guess my question is, if you make your adjustments, and then drop the truck off the jacks before tightening the LCA bolts, will that throw your setting off? Thanks!
@alexalanis4830
@alexalanis4830 2 года назад
So if my toe and camber are correct and its now tougher to steer left (its also snaps back to center hard) am I running too much positive caster on the drivers side LCA?
@mfengoog
@mfengoog Год назад
Thank you for the great video. Just one thing I am confused. Looks like it's the same two camber bolts on the lower control arm that adjust both the caster and camber. What makes the difference for adjusting one other than the other? Am I missing anything? Thank you again.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma Год назад
You are right, the two bolts on the LCA are for adjusting both camber and caster. Typically, you'd want to prioritize camber over caster. The only time you'll really need to prioritize caster is if you're larger tires are rubbing against the frame.
@Kiddomike
@Kiddomike 4 года назад
Do you recommend also adjusting the upper control arms cam bolts for camber? Or do I even need to do that? It seems that the alignment shop do not touch the upper control arm bolts. Hence, my camber on my truck is slightly off spec.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 года назад
The stock UCA does not have came bolts on the frame. Some aftermarket UCAs have the cam at the spindle though and not at the frame. The camber can be adjust at the LCA
@olandeiscoleman3939
@olandeiscoleman3939 2 года назад
I just installed new uca’s is it possible to only adjust the camber ?
@johnnygalvan1344
@johnnygalvan1344 4 года назад
Ok buddy I have watched your video over and over still trying to figure this thing out , so if it’s ok can I ask so when doing this alignment should I do the camber first or the caster ? Because in your video I seen after you adjusted your camber you then made another adjustment with the same adjustment bolts going in the opposite direction from each other , wouldn’t that affect the adjustment you had just made to the camber ? So I’m confused to witch one goes first now the camber or Caster
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 года назад
You are correct with your statement. My method of adjusting caster is more of a mechanic's hack. This is a way to not have your tires interfere if you're running larger tires that are touching the frame. The true method would actually have to be upgrading your LCA's to have the independent caster adjustment at the spindle mounting point. You can find a bunch of these on amazon - I have a few linked on my amazon page if you want to see what I am talking about. For your purpose, if all your doing is alignment (and not interference adjustment), match up the caster for both sides - then camber - then toe.
@H1tman47
@H1tman47 3 года назад
How do you make sure that the toe measurement taken against the fishing line isn't steering input? One way I could think of is to go back and forth between two sides or get 4 jack stands to do both sides simultaneously. Thanks for the vid my man, this is super helpful!

Man I've got a 2002 Tacoma TRD Off Road and I had to have my upper and lower ball joints on both sides replaced- the truck got out of alignment and then the front driver's side wheel fell off in my drive way. Luckily I was going like 5 miles an hour so it didn't do much damage. So i had the upper and lower ball joints on each side as well as the outer tie rod ends replaced. I had the rack and pinion rebuilt last year so now the whole front end is rebuilt. But- when I got it back home, it's still eating up tires, and now it's even worse than before. The wear looks like feathered wear to me- so it's too much toe in or out right? I'm taking it back to the shop that did the work because they were supposed to align it after replacing the ball joints so- they said they would make it right. I'm hoping maybe they just didn't take the time to drive it and recheck the alignment and it just needs more adjustment. I've put like 2 gs into it over the last 2 months getting all this work done and replacing tires- I'm tapped.

Would you still be able to adjust your toe properly if you are running spacers in the front only?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 3 года назад
Yea, you can just take account of the spacer thickness when you make your measurements. If you have a 1" spacer, just add an inch to the measurement at the front. Just make sure the fishing line is as centered as possible on the hub.
@twotwentyswift
@twotwentyswift 5 лет назад
I was told if you jack your truck up in the front to put alignment turn plates under the front tires to bounce the front end to make sure it has completely settled or the camber and caster would be off. Was I told wrong or have you had bad tire wear since you did your alignment with your truck up in the air on jack stands?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 5 лет назад
As I mentioned in the video, the measurements are done with the truck completely on the ground. After it's jacked, gotta drive the truck back and forth before taking another measurement on the ground. As triple check after you're done with the adjustments for the day, drive normally for the week and take another set of measurements. My tires have been good and NO issues of uneven wear.
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 5 лет назад
For further clarify, the measurements of toe and camber are ALWAYS on the ground and NOT on jack stands.

I have a 2008 fj cruiser. Is it the same to adjust as your tacoma?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 6 лет назад
+Gus Buster 2000 I did a quick search on Google and it looks like the lower control arms do have the cam bolts. It should be the same. Although, all cars vary in models and you should confirm that. If you can find the Cam bolts on the lower control arm as well as the tie rods, you should be able to do this alignment at home too.

Did you install any spacers? Are the springs perched properly on the lower end of the strut? What kind of springs did you use?

When you jacked it up and put it on jacks we’re they under the A arms or do the A arms just suppose to dangle down ?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 года назад
For this job I jacked up on the frame. The camber bolts on the suspension system will be under tension if you jack it on the LCAs. You need to remove all the tension when you're making the adjustments.

KFlo's Tacoma Build Thanks for the reply buddy . I have a suspension 3 inch lift and the body lift spacers on top of the shocks , it has been hell trying to get this alignment just right but your video really gave me a better understanding so I thank you i can tell you know what your doing
@johnnygalvan1344
@johnnygalvan1344 4 года назад
One more question buddy , so when your doing this did you put the truck in neutral so the a arms are free to move or was the truck in park ?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 года назад
My truck is manual so I did have the e brake pulled. You should be fine if you leave it in park

I wish adjusting my camber was as easy like yours to just turn the tie rods but my Tacoma is a 2002 . Tedious is an understatement because I have to pop the tie rods off then turn it and you still can’t see where it’s until you put it back on and then hit the castle nut With an impact “ I hate taking my taco to any shops because they always do sloppy work but I been battling this for weeks now and my tires are worn so bad on the inner part , but yea I’m a pretty good mechanic but this is literally hell

Do you know how much one full 360 rotation of the inner rod changes the toe?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 2 года назад
It's probably about 1/8" extension/retraction of the tie rod

Hey so when adjusting camber is the wheel supposed to be centered front to back in the wheel wells?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 3 года назад
What do you mean by "centered front to back"? If you mean, the front wheel has to be parallel to the rear wheel - the answer is yes. When you adjust camber, you're also affecting toe - so keep that in mind when you make these adjustments
@agustinherrera5600
@agustinherrera5600 3 года назад
@@KFloTacoma no i mean does the tire have to be centered in the wheel well , for example the front wheels centered from the back of the front bumper to the front of the driver door

Tire adjustments are not measured off of any part of the body of the truck.

Should the truck have any negative or positive camber
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 года назад
I prefer no camber since i do a lot of long drives. If you want more turning grip, then you can add a slight negative camber. It's all up to you though and your purpose

I have a Toyota Tacoma truck my front tires are wearing on the inside how do i fix that
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 3 года назад
You have a negative camber wear going on my friend. You can fix that by adjust the camber bolts on the Lower control arm. Make sure you check and readjust the toe afterwards

When adjusting caster won’t it make you loose camber setting
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 5 лет назад
That is correct unless you have the caster adjustable upper control arms.
@jessicaoswell7361
@jessicaoswell7361 2 года назад
If you know camber and caster specs can't you just adjust the cams to the given spec? Assuming no worn suspension components shouldn't the the camber and caster be correct? That's what markings are for right?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 2 года назад
In a perfect world, that would be the case. BUT due to varying manufacturer of suspension parts there are discrepancies in dimensions. The markings are for instances when you put back the same suspension parts that you take out, but when you put in new ones, you will need to realign. I would advise looking up Tolerance Stacking - you'll see what I mean.
