Evander has been such an inspiration to me in regard to character development. Ever since knowing of this man my life has been about slugging it out to the very end. No quitting…!!!
He did not get robbed bro, he's 0-1-1 against Lennox, Lennox handled him both fights he's also 27-10 as a heavyweight very inconsistent! Even if I gave him a pass for 2 losses due to age he would still have 8...and fought his first 17 fights at cruiserweight/light heavyweight and he had to juice up on hgh before he even moved up to heavyweight. Yes he beat Mike but he was no where to be found in 85,86,87,88,89 when Mike was destroying everyone...he was still searching for an hgh supplier. He's a great fighter but extremely over rated. Only 3 consecutive title defenses after he won the belt from sloppy fat buster and lost it to Bowe in their first match up. He has nothing that would qualify for him a top 10 spot all time..he only won the belt 4 times because he lost it 4 times! He ranks somewhere in the 13 to 18 range even with his victory list...but his record of 27-10 as a heavyweight is a direct reflection of his inconperformances

Evander was a warrior he never ducked anyone he took all comers and wasn't even a natural heavyweight he was actually a light heavyweight, but the heart of a champion.
You won't, no way. People do not (or very rarely) strive for good character like they use to back then and without that you will not have true greatness like we saw back then. It's way more difficult to be humble and a good individual than it is to be an ego filled and selfish individual as well people do not hold others to the same standards that were good.

It is interesting our perceptions of people. Bc I thought the same thing as you. But he is telling us here he came a hair from quitting but kept going bc of his son. I think everyone faces these moments in life. And we all want to quit sometimes. Even the greats. And that’s encouraging actually bc if they found a reason to keep going then so can we
I don't see why it matters, everyone knows he's great and going past his prime against the best even if he did loose just shows how much heart he had. I don't think it diminishes his legacy.
It’s wasn’t that he loved competition… He needed the money… He got robbed by his advisors & he made bad investments & had multiple baby mothers so the child support was enormous

Yeah, I remember that statement. And Holyfield did punish Lennox 3rd round. But after that, Lennox toolkit to Evander. Though a competitive fight, I felt Lewis got robbed. But massive respect for the Real Deal🥊🥊🥊

The biggest news story wasn't him feeling like quitting it was Lewis clearly being robbed .. everyone there knew it .. the broadcastors who were on hollyfields fan club even admitted it .. and if asked did he thought he won the fight .. he replied the judges did ... it was disgraceful to the sport ...
He lost so bad this fight and got a draw but then the second fight was much closer but they were given it to Lewis if it went the distance no matter what so they can make up from the last fight.

Say what you will about Evander but he was tuff. Forget all the heart talk he was tuff. Probably one of the best short range counter punchers in Heavyweight history. Only one thing Evander was wrong about here was claiming Lewis was just as good as him but bigger. That is not true. Lewis was by far better than Evander and Evander knows it. I just wish Riddick Bowe would not have been such a coward in fighting Lewis. Lewis is a legend and having that Bowe victory too would have just proven even further his greatness. Bowe literally threw away the WBC belt in a garbage can on film at news conference because they demanded he fight Lewis. Riddick Bowe was afraid of Lewis because every time they fought as amateurs Lewis beat the hell out of Bowe or knocked him out. Bowe was scared of Lewis. At least Evander was brave enough to fight a mountain that could knockout most humans with just a jab. Lewis is only 1 of 2 Champions to ever beat every single man he fought or had a draw with like Evander in the first fight which was robbery. Lewis fought the 1st fight perfectly and Holyfield had nothing for him.

Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield is from my town of Atmore, AL. Atmore is the 3rd worst city to live in the whole state of Alabama. He slips in and out Atmore to visit family and leaves. Evander's nickname is perfect for him. He is "The Real Deal"!

Strange he does not say this in his autobiography. From what I remember he says he just said the 3rd round in the spare of the moment then had to stick with it. He said deep down he did notthink he would ko him the 3rd and it was also get inside Lewis head. At least I think that's what he says. Lost the book so read it years ago
