We can all hope, but I don’t think Apple cares what people want. They want to have a low base price to advertise so I think the 8GB/256GB spec is here to stay for a while. I hope not, but they’ve been doing it so long.

Why would a corporate workhorse/basic user even need that? I'd take sharper upgrade pricing over that. Spec-monkey's should stick with PCs.

Yes, or just get the 24" iMac as the screen is large enough once you get used to it. Right now the only other option is the Studio display or a 4K monitor like the BenQ PD3225U 32" (or similar). I'm not sure what you are asking exactly though.

Yes, don't upgrade with a machine like that. It's faster then just about anything out there so keep it long term.

For sure, I had an M1 also and would still have it if it wasn't for my Channel. But I like trying he new tech also. The M1 is still a great machine for sure and don't buy anything unless you need to.

Yes, the Qualcom should be decent but if they are only aiming for the M3 Air then that means it will only beat the base M3 chip.

Nope! The base models for the SnapDragon X Elite will start at 8GB of RAM according to another review. I hope the people who constantly criticize Apple for spec-ing an 8GB model have that same energy for the SD X Elite models.

We will see what comes out first and you never know for sure with Apple. I know the Ai direction is important for them to get a foothold with that so they will be pushing more over the next year.

If you need a laptop now I would get the M3 Pro if you can find a sale. The M4 could be a while and there is never a guarantee. Plus it will be more money. But do what you feel is best.

If you have to buy a Mac get the latest one shortly after it comes out so you can see if it worth it over the previous version which may be marked down.

I just get the best value out there at the time.

I'm kind of on the same boat since I have the 2019 Macbook Pro and its struggling. I wanna upgrade soon but I'm on the fence if whether its the best time to upgrade.

@@craigneidel 🎯💯Exactly. As an AI developer, the additional power is definitely needed especially when working w/LLM above 33B parameters. And that's just for inference. The demands for training models is even more demanding.

Yes, but like I said for 90% of the users they won't need this power and really don't need Ai. The M3s are powerful enough and even the M1. But I do know it's coming no matter what.

@@craigneidel Right, for the 90% of users the lowest spec Apple-Silicon SoC of the M1, M2, M3 and the upcoming M4 are more than suffice. I think that's what you mean to say. However the Macbook Pro & Mac Pro are intended for prosumer & professional devices. It says so in the name. They are spec'ed to meet the most demanding use cases which exceeds that envelop of the 90%. And do w/ease & even on the go w/MBP. These users tend to be developers, engineers & scientists like myself - Not gamers.

It's possible but I don't think the M4 will be that much faster. Maybe another 20% or so and the Ai that will launch now will be more simple use Ai. But I do hear you it's too early to know for sure how much faster and better at Ai the M4's will be. If Apple makes it too much better they might anger a few of their clients so I feel they won't make massive leaps on the M4.

Ram and storage would be nice for sure. Too much money for Apple there so I don't see it changing this year which does suck for sure.

Only get what you need and if you have an M1, M2 or M3 then most likely no need for an M4. I get them because of my channel but would still be using the M1 if it wasn't for that.

I agree but they are in a race with all the Ai stuff which is unfortunate.

Apple sells way more MacBooks then Mac minis or Studios so they tend to put more love into those products. I am citing Mark Gurman who always states rumors and not facts.

If it wasn't for my channel I would still have my M1 Air. But I do quite a bit of video editing so a little more power is good and my m2 Air with 16 GB is really all I need.

@@craigneidel Yea I have an M1 iMac with 16. I used to do some editing on it and It did/does that just fine with 16gb, but then so did my iPad Pro from 2018.

If they work for you then no need to upgrade. I have a channel so I make content but for most people just use them until you start noticing issues.

I feel your pain, I just got the M3 Pro MacBook Pro 14 in the mail yesterday. There's always a newer chip right around the corner though, we'll never get ahead of it.

As I understand it I think they will. According to another report, the lower-end machines have been eating into the sales of Apple higher-end Pro models.

@@TheWallReports yea because when they release the lower end chips the max and m pro are so good and have good spec there is no point in getting a ultra unless you want to and the ultra chip is not that much faster then the max cpu they have to do something to seperate it

It has to do with yield and heat. Low end chips are first because of the low yields. The fast models are made up of multiple low end chips so they don’t come into play until the yields are higher later in production cycles, as well as dealing with the heat dissipation for the higher end models.

If you need a computer buy now. These are more rumors and nothing guaranteed so just buy based on immediate need. M3 is fast enough.

The opposite direction make more sense, they skip the M3 Ultra, and release the M4 Ultra first, so everyone who need performance will rush to buy, because those who already bought the M4 Max will not buy the M4 Ultra even if they want that performance. They will not sell more machine in overal, but if the 10% of the M4 Max sales converts into M4 Ultra sales it's already a victory.

@@TamasKiss-yk4st The market for Pro-level machines is relatively small. Apple has room to grow marketshare in the consumer space against Win/x86...and I think there will be big push starting with the upcoming Back-to-school and Holiday buying season to promote budget home/office/school Macs. Apple Silicon is now a mature product and manufacturing cost have come down as a result. Pros are also not fickle....unlike the average consumer, who is more price conscious. Apple really doesn't need to claim Pro "bragging rights". Buying decisions by Pro, Enterprise and Industry users are a whole different ballgame.

I think it's going to be due to Ai and Microsoft coming out with the Snapdragon chip soon that will be quite good.

If I didn't have a channel I would still have my M1 Air. But, you need to have hobbies etc in life and for some it's computers and they get some joy out of them. Either way everybody is different and that is fine.

Everybody likes what they like for sure. I used Windows laptops for 30 years and even review them and have a bunch of newer systems. But, I pick up my Mac 95% of the time when given the chance. So, is it a rip off for me if I always use it over the PC? I'm not sure. Also, you can sell them for way more in 3-4 years so you get quite a bit of the money back or you can just keep using them for 8 years and they run fine over that time. So we are all different.

They need to work harder? So you didn't even realized Snapdragon only show you results where they have the upper hand with 12 power cores.. only conpare that with the 4 power cores (basic M2/M3), and with 5-6 power cores (M3 Pro), or with 8 power cores (M2 Pro). So when you compare the M3 Max 12 power cores or even the M2 Max 10 power cores, they are falling behind with 12 power cores.. not to mention based on benchmark results they still use a cooler to beat the fanless basic M3 (in Cinebench X Elite had 23W peak and 23W sustained power consumption, but basic M3 had 19W peak and 8W sustained power consumption.. so to maintain the 23W they need a cooler, also they need 12power cores for that result compared to the only 4 power cores.. so if you can't even double the performance (it's about 30% better in performance) with 3x more power cores and also with a cooler, how can you call that a good result? You drain your battery 3x faster and still only gain 30% extra performance. (that little extra performance really worth 10-12 hours of battery time..?)

I switched too about 7 years ago. MacOS just seems more stable and I just tend to pick up my Mac instead of my Windows laptops when given the choice. I'm not sure why but in the end it comes down to all the parts working together better.

@@TamasKiss-yk4st What I meant is the window to gain more customers is going to start closing once these new ARM laptops start hitting the market. I didn't mean they had already surpassed Apple's SOC. Knowing how Microsoft works it will still take a few years for them to become competitive. This spurred Apple to speed up development of their silicone chips and move them to the newer standard. No more small performance increments like M1 to M2. M3 just came out and they are already talking about M4! Once Windows moves to ARM I wonder what will happen to the gaming world. Maybe we'll get a lot more games for Apple silicon chips?

@@craigneidel I started my company 20 years ago but had to go with Windows because of all the software I owned was windows. But in 2012 I'd had enough. I had boosted the RAM in my laptop and gotten a monitor when the screen died. It was painfully slow. I got a Mac mini and keyboard and never looked back. Last year I gave my mini to my sister (it is upgraded to 16 gigs of RAM and has an SSD) and got a mini M2 Pro. All I have to do now is install the legacy patcher on the old mini and get the latest OS updates to get it more secure.

@@craigneidel For many things you need a 3rd party app which is standard with Windows. mounting an external ssd does not work plug and play. The password needs to be typed in about 4 times and a few reboots. Why? Screen splitting in Win11 is great. Mac os a 3rd party app is needed and it sucks. When deleting an app it leaves a trail behind and does not completly delete something that should be deleted. Cannot set maximum limited to charge the battery only up to 80% compared to other laptops for instance. Finder "File Exporer"ist difficult to use. It missed the convinence of Windows. Cost of repairs are out of the world. New topcase with keyboard 400USD. for an MBA - Overpriced. Apps for MacOS are more expensive. More choices of (external) GPU's for Windows laptops. WIndows laptops can be upgraded. MB Keyboard keys rub off 3 months after of use. It is a 1500USD machine and the keyboard wears off??? It is like if your car looses the paint while driving through the rain. Apple wants to trap you in their eco world.

File save/open dialog boxes operate as full “File Explorer” windows. (After start up my MBA uses about 8GB of RAM and no APP has been opened - more memory is in use than with Windows after start up.) Any laptop with 8GB RAM and that is not user upgradeable is a castrated device. - SSD soldered down - it is also a castrated idea. - Windows Laptops have a wider choice of hardware

Then don't buy a MacBook if you don't like them. Nobody is forcing you to buy one or even watch Mac videos. That's my advice. Everybody is different and get what works for you.

Nobody is tricked into anything. Only weak people are tricked. Get what works best for you and what you like. I buy normally the base model Macs and sell them 4 years later and make 60% back. So for me I end up spending much less then the Intel Win PCs. I also get more work done that pays me back. But everybody has their own system which is fine.

Yes, it's coming no matter if we want it or not and I just hope they do something good with Ai instead of all the things they most likely will do like more advertising and taking jobs. Time will tell tough.

I like to harp on ai but know there is no stopping it. I really do wonder how younger generation will cope with it and jobs but time will tell.
