Hello and Welcome! Yes I was inspired to go back on a journey to the recent past to take a look at some of the ABC sitcoms of the 80s and 90s when they all took a trip to Walt Disney World for some free advertising and some fun cross promotion. There's so many to cover so today we'll be talking about Full House, Family Matters, Step By Step and Boy Meets World with plenty more to cover along the way. Stay Tuned!

Aww, talk about nostalgia. These kind of episodes were my only way to 'visit' the parks as a kid. My parents couldn't afford it, and as an adult, I still can't. Thank goodness for RU-vid, I get to see all the rides and pretend I'm there.

i love that we are supposed to believe that a band full of a bunch of 30 something dads doing cover songs from the 60s would headline at walt disney world and be that popular 😂😂 the 90s were wild

up until I finally got to go to Walt Disney World in 2009 I was thinking all these sitcom episodes would be the closest I'd ever get. My family's vacations were to Las Vegas rather than Disney.

The Tanner family (I was confused when I heard you say The Fuller family. I was like no that’s the spinoff years later and I don’t think they went.) is still one of my favorite TV families.

I always thought Step by Step stayed at Old Key West. I always wanted to have a Cory and Topanga moment in front of the Fountain of Nations (rip). And the Full House episodes are just so iconic. Every time I step into the Grand Floridian from the monorail, I expect to see John Stamos playing the piano in the lobby. One of my favorite fun facts is that John Stamos and The Beach Boys were among the first guests to stay at the Grand Floridian and the video for Kokomo was filmed on the beach.

That's a really cool fact! I had no idea! Also never paid attention much to the beach boys outside of their presence on Full House. :)

I watched the Full House, Boy Meets World, and Step by Step Disney episodes when they aired. I didn't get to go myself until I was an adult.

Ok, the Neon Armadillo, i think, became the BET sound stage. It was beside the Adventure club. Was across from the comedy store and 8 trax. Thanks for sharing this.

Yes she did, I didn't cover all the episodes yet. There's a part two that will be coming out later on in a few weeks. Roseanne and the others that I didn't get to talk about will be apart of that one :)

Yeah I'm sorry about that, posted too quick. I just remember that she tried to fight ABC about it because the Conners were supposed to live paycheck to paycheck. Apparently all ABC sitcoms had to go to a Disney park. My favorite is probably when "The Middle" goes cuz the daughter is obsessed with Disney.

The Tanner family gets to stay at the Grand Floridian, because it was one of the newer additions at the time. So you got to get that promo, baby! Aside from the fact that it's also one of the deluxe hotels that also is one of the nearest to Magic Kingdom. It would make sense if a rich family and band were staying at WDW to stay there. As for Steve... Yeah that's a stretch, but once again, got to get that promo, baby! While it just so happens to be one of the most expensive hotels now, I wouldn't be surprised if it was any other hotel the Tanner family probably would have stayed there instead. I really do think they only went to the Grand Floridian to promote the hotel sine it just came out a few years before this aired. Also, essentially the same thing with the other shows. Any hotels that are shown are the hotels that have more recently opened and need promotion. I thought for Family Matters it was kind of stretching it too, especially since it's such a big family and realistically they'd need not one, but multiple rooms for all the characters. Old Key West resort is the one in Step by Step. But essentially these videos are a time capsule of not just Disney promotion, but specifically the NEW stuff at the time, because all the things they were promoting were relatively new hotels and attractions.

Grand Floridian wasn’t the newest resort (Yacht & Beach Club were the newest deluxe resorts at the time of the episode airing), but it was the flagship resort. Of course a well-off family from San Francisco would have a top tier Disney vacation that most of the audience could only fantasize about 😂
@Rachel-xu4br
@Rachel-xu4br 10 дней назад
@@RetrocadePodcast I didn't say it was the newest, I said it was new. I consider a hotel being only a few years old in a place that's existed since 1971 to be relatively new hotel and as you said, in that time it became pretty popular. Of course they put them there since they're the Tanner family and can afford the best and want the audience to fantasize. However, that doesn't change the fact that everything that ABC shows on all shows (not just Full House) are things Disney wants to promote since they're were in fact "new" for it's time. For example, Splash Mountain came out in the late 80's, more specifically 89, yet they do cross promotion on all shows regardless of what year it came out, because yes, it was popular, but it was also heavily promoted ride in general before and during the first decade of being it out. They had a ton of random promotional material for Splash, including even a hip hop music video to try to appear to older kids. It may have came out in 89, but Disney was obsessed with promoting this attraction in the early-mid 90's.

@@Rachel-xu4br Not to go back and fourth here, but your exact words were "newest hotel addition".
@Rachel-xu4br

@@RetrocadePodcast Sorry and thanks, changed it to newer cause that's what I initially meant. Cause yeah, Disney at that point was releasing a hotel/resort it seemed almost every other year at that point, especially in the 90's when they were also going to soon open AK eventually.
