Good review. Very helpful. I actually now slightly prefer my new kermit (2.0) to my 2012 hulk. I have settled into a (rolex only) rotation of New Kermit, black ceramic GMT (116170LN), pre ceramic sea dweller (16600) and an SD 43.
Big Mike, congrats on selling some pieces you don’t like/wear anymore. If I don’t love a watch or want to wear it I sell it and get something else. I always laugh when I see someone on the forum with a box of 20+ watches that they never wear.
Hey Michael, I feel you on the GP, I really like that piece but I've got one of them funny wrists as well - My GS SBGA375 I can't get a proper fit on the bracelet or on a leather strap I bought - Fixed it with a strapcode and the same for my white dial SMP300 - I get a great fit with the bracelet but I find it too bulky and either too lose or too tight on the oem rubber, I wasn't majorly impressed with a Zealander either. I recently fitted a Forstner 1461 and I'm loving the taper and fit. Am very much considering the Laureato for my next big purchase and must thank you for your other reviews on it. SD4K on my grail list as well!
Wow ! But perfectly makes sense. Keeping two tone and 40 mm Sea dweller would be my choice also, you covered both sides with them. After some times all of them looks similar.
Of all the watches you’ve parted with, I will indeed miss the GP. But you did the right thing. I suspect a Royal Oak is in your future. A royal oak chronograph, perhaps? Great video.
For the GP Laureato, did you try reaplcing a full link with two half links or vice versa? The half links aren't actually half, they're more like 2/3 links so adding two of them together will be larger than a full link but smaller than a half link plus a full link.
I'm sad you sold the SD43. I think this is a good one to keep. Now I'm wondering if I should trade mine for the new Sub41 for better weight and proportion. What are your thoughts?
You are a head of the curve, more and more people are going to be selling off their blowed up Rolex collection in the next or two. The fashion statement of a Rolex is not what it once was five years ago and with theft of Rolex on the rise, I see people letting go of the collection in favour of converting the cash to some other toy. Plus, smart watches are getting so much better. I was tempted to get Apple Ultra iwatch the other day. I can see myself buyer one in the next few years if it keeps improving, that's not see I will abandoning mechanical movement watches. That will never happen but I can see not getting another G shock for workouts and getting iwatch in the future for exercising and diving.
This truly is a journey and like you, my tastes constantly change and evolve but that's part of the fun. There's always something new and exciting around the corner. Recently picked up a Kermit 2.0 (aka starbucks). Love it. Do you still have yours? If not, curious why you sold it. Thoughts?
Just me but I would have waited until at least next year's release to let go of the SD43. Reasons being: 1) market low making SS a hold 2) I can see them updating it to a 136600 version with a slimmer bezel and losing the fliplock extension. I would add that the hands are also too small for the dial and bezel. Not much downside to this version being discontinued. 3) I could also see them deco the SD43 and the two tone altogether without an update. Not as hot as the sub or JC, new DSC and JC being the marketing focus, cyclops divisive. Probably won't go entirely but it's just typically the model that gets lost in the diver shuffle.
