The knurling on the bezel on the pre-ceramic Subs makes the watch. I remember seeing this cool African American guy at a cafe here in Bondi. He was actually the waiter and his watch looked awesome and I asked him, what year model it was and he said, 'I don't know man, the last of the real ones.'
I have that exact 14060m 2012 no date. Would never settle for another Sub as it fits my 6.5inch wrist perfectly. I’ve come to appreciate the hollow end link bracelet - it’s light weight and flexibility allows superb adaptability and comfort on the wrist.
Great choice! I have the same 14060M but mine is the two liner. I have the black Zealande rubber strap for it! Great for summer! Wear it in good health. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing your journey!
My entry into subs was the new 41mm. I’ve since been able to handle the previous gen ceramic 40, as well as pre ceramic. Clasp doesn’t bother me a bit and I’d much rather own the 41 than any of the pre ceramics which feel much less solid in the hand. But I’m in and out of the water with mine quite a bit, so feeling solid and having confidence in the product holding up in demanding environments is a big part of my enjoyment of the sub. If I wasn’t knocking it around in the water, I’m not sure I’d even own a sub. Just go right to gmt / Bluesy / etc
I'm with you 100%. 5 digits over 6 digits any day of the week. The 4 lines 14060M is my Dad's watch, that he wears pretty much all the time. Me, my favorite model is the polar 16570, a model I don't think I'll ever let go off. Supremely comfortable and very understated.
Great watch sir. They look great on NATO straps as well. I agree about the aluminum bezel--there's a certain way the black color shows on it that makes it appealing. The lug holes are so practical.
Not sure how much things have changed since this video, but when I was ready to move on a new Sub No Date, I called my AD and got one the next week (as in a week ago) 🤷🏽♂️ love it!
Great looking watch. Recently traded my 16610 in for a 116610 so I'm going the other way. I will say the 5 digits are the most comfortable...no need for the glide lock. I also have a 41 and I agree that the entire bracelet is too wide. Also just picked up a batgirl and that's my favorite of the bunch...not as in your face as the pepsi with its colors and comfortable as heck with the jubilee. Always enjoy your vids. Thanks for the great content.
Hello Mike Definitely the five digit is more comfortable then six digit, I have both of them, they have their own special personalities . And as years go by I appreciate five digit more and more Good to see you back making more videos
I'm moving away from my SD43, i'd never thought i'd say that. Got a wide wrist, but it's too tall and has a circular saw on top of it. So, i'm going for a six digit 12 sub. Still big enough. Pre ceramic isn't my thing because that's basically my pre-Bond Seamaster. But who knows, maybe i see that different one day, too...
For me, my mood changes. I pretty much wear a different watch each day. Within my Rolex collection I have vintage, neo-vintage, and modern pieces. I like that. I just mix it up then as my mood changes. I do think that the fit of the 5 digits on my wrist (7.25") is probably the best. Overall though the 124060 41mm Sub is by far my favorite - on an Everest strap.
Great video, Michael. If you like the size of the markers on a six digit, but not the ceramic bezel, you should try the new Explorer II - maxi markers with a steel bezel. The black one doesn’t look as big as the white dial. That’s the one I would recommend. It’s my daily. The clasp is not as big as the Sub’s - the only GMT watch with a complete brushed bracelet
Great video content. Looks great on your wrist. I remember maybe a year ago you mention you didn’t like the small dials. At the time I had a 16610 and my response was is more classic look. By the way the 50 anniversary Kermit has aluminum bezel and bigger dial. Love your comment on the 5 digit Rolex and love your analogy on a older BMW. I owned on the past a E39 and every time I see one I just wish I had one again. I think as your collection grows a 14060 is a perfect piece to be part of that collection. Currently I’m searching for a 14060M but two liner. I like the simple and clean dial. Take buddy. If you ever travel to Texas hit me up. Will love to have a beer with you and chat on watch journey.
I think I’m having a similar watch journey to you! I much prefer the looks of the 5 digit references and find them way more comfortable. Modern watches with heavy, solid bracelets have put form over function comfort wise. Have you considered an older 5513 with matte dial for the bigger markers? I went for a BB58 to get that similar dial look but I’m not enjoying the lack of heritage; it seems almost soulless despite being very good looking. So I find myself reaching for the 16610 most of the time, wondering why I bother with other watches 🤷♂️
I have the kermit and hulk but the pre-ceramic definitely the more comfortable and better looking watch especially on my 6.5” wrist. I am now looking for a black steel bezel to spice up the kermit with the maxi dial and hands.
Hi, so after watching this video ref the 14060m (great watch).. how does it compare to the 16600 SD from your previous video and which do you prefer? I'm asking because I have the 16600 and wonder which is better (all rounder) if you could only have one!
I did the exact same thing, and bought back a 14060M random serial full set, for the same reasons as well. Unfortunately I’ve paid a lot more then you did Michael.😄 I still own 1 ceramic, a pepsi GMT, but I do wear it on a glidelock Sub bracelet, to take a part of the bling off, compared to the Jubilee it came on.
I have a 126610LV Submariner 41 and agree that the bracelet is too thick and the buckle is way too large. My watch of choice (which I own) is a 5513... you need to experience the 4 digit reference.
I haven’t had a chance to get my hands on the the 5 digit subs. It always seemed like the teeth on the bezel looked chunkier and more tooltastic than the teeth on my 114060? Always enjoy your insight in this crazy watch world. Cheers!
About time you got a real Sub 😂 Do you still have the Turtle? I’m planning on taking mine to Greece and Africa next month after rewatching your old video.
The best thing about the 6 digits are the glidelock, but you can't beat a 5 digit, by far. IMO. After buying the 6 digit Sub, it feels way more special when I put the old 5 digit on..
It is mate, and maybe a bit more. Actually some aficionados choose the 14060 as the last one to keep, after a long watch journey from four to six digit and back :)
The new 124270 explorer has all the charm of the older versions yet the benefits of the modern Rolex’s (I appreciate maybe too small for you) . 124060 is perfection but the heart yerns for the warmth of the aluminium bezel … argggggg !
I own the 14060 tritium. I also have a pre-ceramic Sea-Dweller & a pre-ceramic two tone Bluesy. I love all 3 of them. The jingly bracelet is so comfortable and lighter. The older Subs have more character. They get better with added scratches & battle scars because they were designed as tool watches. The ceramic versions are too hyped & expensive on the secondary market. They lack soul. New Subs are a fashion item. The only pre-ceramic Sub with maxi markers is the Kermit but that's very expensive. That's my grail sub. The cheaper alternative is the Black Bay 58.
Went tru full circle and back to 5 digit Sub. The Maxi dial just dont cut it for me,feels super clunky. The 14060 just oozes the neo vintage /modern look and its proportion on the wrist is just perfect!
Dear Michael, I have a dilemma! I am considering a trade for my 124060 for NOS 14060m with my surcharge. Although i thought for a long time that 124060 was the best sub, but i like 14060m more and more. What is your opinion on this trade? Thank you!
It’s a very personal choice mate. For me the new stuff is nice, but soulless. The new watches are also huge and feel like bangles. Best is for you to try the 5 digit. 👍🏼
Great video man. I’m waiting for a call for my no date 41mm but these are starting to get tempting. You should do a Sotc video. I liked the GP you had and now you have the Seamaster that I have and also love. Keep it up 🤙🏼
I have also a 14060M (2-Liner from 2006) and I love it every day. The feeling on the wrist is unbeatable compared to newer Subs and it's for me shiny enough. From my older 5-digit Rolex watches I had the most compliments from the 14060M in the office. Unfortunately the 36 mm Datejust Whitegold fold under the radar. But at least, you wear a watch for your self.
Couldn’t agree more about the sleazy waitlist approach of Rolex. It’s not based on chronology of registered interest at all, but rather nepotism/favouritism/extortion. Guys who buy unwanted jewelry, two-tone watches, and ladies pieces often get the call within days, while everyday customers without a “spend-history” wait years for nothing. Call the AD and they’ll tell you it’s an issue of supply. Offer to buy unwanted garbage and they’ll change their tune in a heartbeat. Rolex is a customer service nightmare and their AD’s are the dishonest foot soldiers of the brand.
