my c/a was open. it's Saturday evening, can't get parts so I opened up the timer and saw that the "a" contact was worn down. I held it still with needle-nose plyers and bent the end closer to the other contact with a screwdriver. put it all back together and it heats up now. thank you for posting this video.

Thanks a lot. I stumbled on this video looking for answers. Ended up being the timers C-A connection. Took the timer apart, cleaned and adjusted the contacts. Problem solved! Thanks again I never would have thought it to be that because it ran just wouldn't heat.

Thanks for sharing this sir. I have a problem with my dryer that when I set the timer to 10 or 20 minutes to dry it won’t heat up but if I moved up to 50 or 60 star to heat up right away. Can my timer be faulty?. Thanks again 👍

Great video I have and old Kenmore that has a timer nob only and you push the timer in to start it. When pushed the dryer runs the heat turns on but as soon as you let go it turns off. Is this the timer issue or is it something else? I don't think it is the door switch because it would not start, right? Thanks in advance for the reply.

Troy. How do you know which combinations to check? My Kenmore has a different type of wire attachments and I want to know how to check for continuity. I have a gas dryer that's not turning off. I replaced the thermal fuse but it still won't ignite. I suspect the timer is kaput. Could you please tell me what sequence of wires to check? What level should I place my Ohm meter? Should I use the lowest setting?

Try taking the knob off when its stuck. I had to cut the plastic shaft in order to get it off. Then take a dremel & tip to remove the stuck portion left in the socket. Theres a metal ring inside the socket, and the plastic shaft can bind. Unless you want to try & pry it off, you may cause more damage to the control panel. Thanks

A decent video, but the lighting was not so great making it hard to see. It would have been even better if you showed the tech sheet diagrams you were using. I'm looking at a Whirlpool dryer, not sure if the wire colors are the same and I'm not sure of what contact you are referring to specifically when looking at my diagram as I do not have a switch truth table.

Figured it out. I opened the timer box and found the contacts between a and b had corrosion and we're not making contact. I cleaned them and now it works great. Wish I had known that before I replaced the timer because I'm very sure this is what was wrong with the original timer that I replaced. It's just troubling that a brand new Switch would fail within 2 weeks.
