We thought about Grievous (and he would have scored dam high) but then we realised it depends on who your flattening the curve to. If you equalised it to Kenobis level, then yeah Grevious would probably take #2 maybe even #1. But if you equalised it to Yoda or Sidious's level he'd be flattened even more than he was by Mace and Kenobi. Dooku's duels from the prequel movies are really good. His duels from Clone Wars are fucking amazing and really show how elegant and refined his saber skills are.

As a trained fencer I always appreciate dookus measured ruthlessness and his percise footwork. Truly he is my favorite force user in all of star wars by a significant margin.
He was a master of sabre and of stage swordsmanship, (which is fact but dramatic and exciting). As you well know a “real” swordsman is about as exciting as watching fish in a barrel get shot when facing a novice so he dramatized his real skills making for a slow but genuinely effective technique. His moves were measured and potentially effective even against a real opponent coming in at full speed. Obviously if you went to wrestling you’d bully him and he’d have to speed up, but if you went in with a swift point he’d slap it away and give you his to deal with. (Ironic he was so on point because he didn’t fight foil to my knowledge only sabre, but I assume he must has at least been skilled at small sword and foil techniques. (I absolutely love small sword, but it’s not exciting to watch because every match lasts about 3 seconds. 😂
@john-paulsilke893 agreed, but you also have to take into account that these are space wizards with freakish physical abilities. To me, duku's dramatic fighting style speaks more to a combination of Sabre and hyper aggressive epee (obviously dramatized cause it's a movie)

How this for Vid Idea: How could the Jedi Order have Won? Winning Conditions: Keeping Anakin a Jedi (with the caveat that he still falls in love/has kids with padme) and detect and defeat Sidious ensuring the Jedi Order's survival and influence in the near future
This is one of the lists I can input the most on because I'm an absolute Star Wars nerd, and I honestly agree with your placements. Yoda and Sidious were good, but often relied more on power in the force rather than their own lightsaber skills for their own reasons. Anakin was one of the best in his time, but he relied heavily on his natural talent and physique rather than trained skill. As for Obi Wan his form was too defensive and was often left open if someone did managed to pierce through it. Windu was one of the greatest duelists, probably ever, but even he had his shortcomings as even use of Vapaad still had side effects to that of the more traditional Juyo due to the dark side influence. Dooku being a purist with Makashi puts him in a tier of his own as the form was designed specifically for blade to blade combat, giving him an edge in lightsaber duels that many people don't have, while also training it to the point where the normal downsides of the form simply don't matter due to his given skill. A few honorable mentions that I feel should be pointed out, but don't necessarily make the cut, would be Maul and Qui Gon. Maul was good but often relied more on the ferocity and savagery of Juyo over his own skill. Qui Gon as Dooku's student was able to keep up with him in his youth, but due to the fact that he chose to specialize in Ataru rather than Makashi like his master, Qui Gon's abilities started to decline as he aged, which is what led to his death at Maul's hands.
something to consider about Anakin was that in both Legends and cannon Sidious out right says that he had the potential to be even greater to the point that he could of become stronger then even himself and master Yoda. Hes only 23 during revenge of the sith and wasn't anywhere near his potential prime if it wasn't for his arrogance getting the better of him during his duel with Obi-wan
Obi-Wan is the best duelist. As said in the video, he’s an absolute invincible wall. His specialty is his endurance and ability to keep from making mistakes. He will maintain his defense until the moment his opponent makes a mistake and that’s when he’ll move in for the kill. His only weakness is due to his force ability being less than those on the list. His attunement with the force is such that it’s able to make up the difference with other force users to be a top force user, his lightsaber skill is top notch.
Love that you kept the force out of this match up (aside from the basic boost to help aged fighters feel like they are in their prime) so often it seems this is done but then cops out with force powers As for the list I'm pretty happy with the order and glad you point out the flaws in the big two since I feel when someone hears yoda has mastered all forms they think he has nothing left to learn rather than understanding the technique enough that he could teach someone else and could still improve I like how Obi and Anakin are in the middle too since they are really good but a tool for a specific job Obi being a brick wall that can probably survive against anyone at his best but doesn't mean can always kill his opponent, while Anakin is a reckless glass cannon that keeps up an aggressive assault good at pushing his way through any openings which often puts him in harm way if he doesn't break through The Darth Maul tease was nice but we all knew Dooku had to take this one being the one that dedicated his life to saber combat, something tells me this video will get a sequel in another era (totally used mind powers) so I'll look forward to that

Anakin was heavily relaint on the force. Equalize his force abilities and he would not be that powerful. It was his reliance on the dark side that gave Anakin that extra push and power to kill count dooku
Glad to see Dooku getting the recognition he deserves! Great list no doubt was glad to see Obi-Wan get his props as well. So many channels treat him like he’s fodder. I think Dooku is underrated by many overall. I think he’s more powerful in the force than he often gets credit for, he’s possibly the best duelist of his era and while he is old he’s by no means slow or weak. I think pre 2nd injury general grievous should be an honorable mention simply because he doesn’t have the abilty to use the force and is able to take on multiple skilled Jedi on his own it’s incredibly impressive not enough to be ahead of those on the list but being able to duel guys like Obi Wan and more and come out alive is impressive

FINALLY, someone who gets it. I see so many of these duelists videos that still keep Dooku at the bottom. You have everyone fight at their prime and skill only Dooku will hold a lightsaber clinic.
I think another thing that needs to mentioned with Dooku is the fact the guy could in theory actually beat Mace in a fight (Like you said in your video on who could stop Maces form), Maces form is very powerful but only if it has the darkside to fuel it Dooku doesn't tap in the darkside much so even with the force Dooku could win in fact it would actually be worse for Mace.

I really appreciate the Dooku respect. Man's a legend. Also, I feel like Maul and Grievous both beat out Palpatine in terms of sheer skill. They both employ more unorthodox techniques that are uniquely difficult to counter, with Maul's double blade and Grievous's four blades, both possess blinding natural speed even without the force and unyielding savagery, and you've also got Grievous's raw strength to consider. Granted, Sidious beat Maul in the Clone Wars, but it's worth noting that Maul was able to press him enough to get him to stop playing around despite the gap in force abilities. And I know this wasn't the thrust of the video, but I would say that in terms of straight hand-to-hand fighting ability, Maul is likely number one due to his unique mix of strength, agility, and savagery. Great video though, as always

@@TheFandomeClips as a pure duelist. Plo, Kit or Shaak Ti could easily compete with Anakin. Fisto alone toyed with Grievous, who Obi-Wan had trouble with, who himself beat Anakin. Tbh, that group of 4 are hard to place.
Couple additions 1. Not only did Mace not anyone else to fight his fallen apprentice because of her knowledge of Vapad, he also retreated from Grevious not because he was losing (it was pretty much a stale mate) because he realised he was teaching the general the move set (though obviously not the mindset/force loop) of Vapad and was so worried about making Grevious even more dangerous that he’d be basically unstoppable. 2. Dooku at least had studied all the forms, possibly even to the point of mastering them. He just didn’t employ them in his own fights, instead focusing exclusively on form 2 (with his own little sequences and techniques, which is encouraged by the form). He taught Grevious all 7 forms and was able to quickly identify the forms used by his opponents so he knew how to counter them.
When Obi-wan & Anakin duelled Dooku in The Clone Wars series, you’ll notice he forced Anakin into the defensive and made Obi-wan have to go on the offensive. Making both fight in ways that they weren’t use to.
It's a shame this video wasn't just most skilled lightsaber duelists in general. Exar Kun for example was a very feared and is an easy 9.5. I could go on about numerous peeps from thousands of years ago but no-one really wants that i guess.

How about a video to showcase the worst commanders in Star Wars? Id reckon that in the grand scheme of things, Tarkin would be pretty high up whether its Legends or Canon. Though i suppose thats partially my personal bias speaking, as in Star Wars DnD-Campaigns i do with some friends of mine, it sort of became a running joke of me introducing random imperial officer-Npcs who refer to him as "that moron Tarkin".

Something that often shows up, whether by design or coincidence, is Obi Wan as a tactical duelist. He isn’t just talented with the blade but he’s able to use his head at the same time as dealing with potential immediate death. I know you’re keeping it to Legends, but my favorite example of this comes from his final clash with Maul in Rebels(?)-he switches from a Soresu stance to an Ataru grip in order to draw Maul into a vulnerable position. The novelization of RotS also underlines this almost unique ability when he faces Grievous. If that’s not all enough, he’s not only fully capable of stonewalling his opponents but he’s also an absolute glutton for punishment. He’s like a friendly, quipping Terminator.

This is honestly the best and most sensible lightsaber duelist ranking I’ve ever seen. First of all, I appreciate that you neutralised the major trump card: The Force. Too many times I feel like people don’t always get the difference between the skill and power aspect of lightsaber duels. Secondly, nice way of differentiating with Yoda and the other top 3 regarding how personalised styles help hide their weaknesses while strengthening their unique traits. Yoda’s most obvious handicap (apart from his age) is his size, hence the Ataru. But I never fully considered that he never went beyond simply mastering the traditional variants and then being content. Thirdly, you chose wisely with the number one:D Btw, I feel Legends Grievous is worthy of consideration to be put above Maul when it comes to pure skill. Maybe Grievous at #7 and Maul at #8. The Zaabrak is a highly ferocious opponent of course, but when Dooku himself chooses to withhold information when sparring with Grievous I feel like it speaks to the cyborg’s prowess. He could even calculate and mimic his own Vaapad counter when duelling Windu (albeit a shrewd version of it)
So far I have no disagreements with the list. All well reasoned and presented. But just to hype Master Kenobi a bit more He was always called THE master of Soresu. The. Yoda probably could edge him out in other forms (though he was no doubt competent) but in a pure Soresu match he was even better. I would also add just as small extension on Yoda as well. Yoda was 2 foot tall and still was considered a master of then all. Imagine his skill if he had the physique of a Mace or young Anakin.
Yoda with any more advantages would be a complete menace. I remember in one of the Legends Novels Dooku musing that if Yoda turned to the darkside, even Sidious would get swept aside like a bug. Thanks for watching Neo! Liam
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think it would be completely accurate to say Dooku never mastered the other lightsabre forms. I mean, Grievous, an excellent duellist in his own right, knew and used all seven lightsaber forms and Dooku was his teacher... you would have to be quite proficient with a lightsabre form to be able to teach someone to be that effective and deadly in using them.
I think Dooku would have had a brilliant academic knowledge of the other forms (You'd have to so you could figure out their weaknesses) enough that he could teach them, but I don't think he ever trained himself to execute any of them to a high standard. I think the biggest knock on Fisto in this contest is the fact he basically relies purely on letting himself fall into the force due to his form 1. This means we never technically see him fighting entirely off his own actual skill, so he’s harder to judge compared to say Dooku who is very conscious and purposeful with his moves. That said, he’s clearly extremely dangerous. Don’t think he makes top 5, but probably makes top 10.
IMO Sidious shouldn’t have made it on the list. He held lightsaber dueling in distain, rarely doing it at all, and yet he’s in the top 5 without the Force advantage? EDIT: Also, I’d bump Yoda down to 5 and Anakin to 4, because Obi-Wan is better when you take out the imbalance of the Force. Obi-Wan is very weak in the Force, by Jedi standards. He had to master Form III to compensate for his lack of natural ability, so him holding his own with a Dark Side-enthralled Anakin in Episode III is a testament to his mastery of Soresu. If you level the playing field with regards to the Force, that lowers Anakin and raises Obi-Wan, so he would pretty handily trump Anakin.
I don't think Anakin was at his best during his duel with Kenobi though. He was emotionally unbalanced and unable to fully use the dark side, but also couldn't keep harmony with the force either which severely weakened him (At least in legends) I think they are both 2 sides of a coin, Obi Wan is a brick wall, Anakin is a glass canon, but they are both equally good at what they do. Sidious may have held duelling in distain, but that didn't mean he wasn't a natural, he mastered all 7 forms with ease according to his master so he was definitely highly skilled regardless of if he enjoyed it or not. In terms of raw skill I agree Count Duku is probably the best. However, bearing in mind that Anakin defeated him in a fair one verses one duel with his own individual style, Anakin will stay my number one both as a duelist and a force sensitive individual overall.
Would love to see an expanded list of top 10 or even 20. Would be interesting to see where you think the likes of shaak ti, plo koon and kit fisto would rank One thing I think that is worth mentioning with your list is that the specific styles and habbits of the duelist can effect the outcome I think Mace would ultimately loose to dooku because D never relied on the darkside enough for M to be fueled off it. And Ds expirence with the unorthodox would help him counter Ms wild attacks At the same time anakin did beat dooku (he did this as a swordsman imo regardless of darkside amp) whereas mace couldnt, but ani would loose mace handidly because he'd constsntly fuel mace with his agression The same with obi wan. Looses to dooku but can beat ani Its not as simple as rock paper scissors, but I think your specialising in different areas will always come with its own strengths and weaknesses. Sometimes somekne who is generally a better fencer can can loose to someone whos worse if they posses the right skillset. Its not hatd and fast by any means, but it is worth considering.

Pretty much. It would have been cool to have more friction between him and Sidious, where Sidious had the edge in force power but had to be careful around Dooku because of his lightsaber skills. I always hated that about the Prequels, that Yoda and Palpatine were basically untouchable in all aspects. honestly i would re rank this list 1) dooku 2)windu 3)Obiwan 4)yoda 5) Anakin is sharing this spot with darth sideous, just like how sideous was pointed out to be rather sloppy and overreliant on the force in this video. Anakin was a bit sloppy himself, a lot of his wins rely on him using Dark side Steriods which aparently help you reach your full potential instantaniously. (but its temporary) also repeated use of the dark side steriods tends to slowly destroy the person over time. the force usually by itself requires a lot of patience knowledge and understanding and hard work to reach your full potential but you get to stay at your full potential longer term without the drawbacks. honestly if you took away anakins massive dark side chosen one shtick away and equalized his powers im pretty confident every single character on this list could beat him.
The list is only comprised of Mace Windu, Yoda, Sidious, Obi-Wan, Dooku, and Anakin in whatever order. Legends General Grievous would be on the list if Legends was included.
Grievous is in a weird camp. He can't touch the force at all which made placing him somewhere very difficult, especially because we didn't state who we were scaling everyone to. If you scaled everyone to Kenobi's power in the force, Grievous would take #1 handily, but if you scaled everyone to Yoda/Sidious's power in the force, he'd be at the absolute bottom of the pile. I think that anakin is by far the best dualist in the verse. Mind you he started training at 8 and a half when usually a Jedi child is taken to be trained from age 1 to 4 usually. Even if he trained much less then the others in the canon comics he was easily the best even beating the simulation of darth maul in young age. He was trained in a war period by master obi wan which is stated to be one of the best dualist of this golden era of fighting and was said to be the best form 3 user of all time by master Windu ( who also stated that he was the only one except himself who could have taken grievous who had a massive attack rate and aggressive form that would kill just about anyone else ) As if that wasn’t ènough he fought vaIianly in the clone wars and was considered to be a menace so he has a lot of experience in fighting. He fought at a young age ( 16 I think ) count dooku who even if old was considered to be the best dualist in the galaxy using form 2 Let s remember he defeated multiple times anakin and obi wan fighting them 1v2 and won. He was almost on the same ground as master yoda in his prime years. Yes yoda did hold him off but in the long run he wins since master yoda can only fight for about 15 minutes before tiring out since he is 900 Anakin (young ) did loose against him and lost an arm but he kept becoming better and better By the time he was 22 he had already mastered sword duels and had a padawan who thanks to his teachings will survive against darth maul. When he started to use some of the dark side power it was stated by Lucas that on mustafar vader / anakin was even better at dueling than master yoda and if yoda had gone instead of obi wan he would have been bested in combat and died. You see he did all this by the time he was 22 , after he lost all his limbs he lost 70% of his connection to the force and lost a lot of power and movement possibilities but still as Vader he became one of the strongest dualist in the galaxy Had he not been defeated and lost all limbs he would have been the best who ever was Many people say that Luke at 25 is stronger than anakin but forget that he learned everything from books and recordings while anakin has real masters and real fighting experiencenves and as you see him fight you can see he is kinda sloppy and anakin would shred him to pieces
The clone wars started in 2008. The Disney buy out was in 2012. Ahsoka is part of legends. Why do people think the clone wars is not part of legends. Are the original and prequel trilogies not part of legends continuity because they’re canon.

In terms of pure skill, Anakin, Mace and Dooku are the top 3 with probably obi wan in 4th. Each of those 4 were the true zenith of their forms, and all for were in awe of each others bladework. Anakin was clearly the most talented, dooku had the most experience Dueling and Mace was the biggest innovator of the lot. Obiwan was the best in form 3 but he was the most orthodox of the 4. Yoda and sidious were both good with lightsabers but not great. Neither were a prodigy and neither focused on it, preferring the force. Neither could take the top 3 blade masters with sabers alone

Only Plo Koon beat Yoda in a duel (canon debatable - stated in a now Legends Wii game). Also one of the permanent four counsel members, along with Yoda, Windu, and Aki Mundi. He beat Ventress with a broken limb, and may be the more ideal jedi in the entire Order. Koon's not as good as anyone on this list, buy maybe an honorable mention.
Let's be fair to everyone else. Anakin was massively over reliant on the dark side and yes I know that using the dark side is *technically* legal in lightsaber duels. So Anakin technically won. I don't think that makes Anakin a more skilled duelist. It's like you and me having an Archery contest with long bows and Anakin uses a bazooka. Yes it's technically legal and anakin wins but not cause of skill. Darth Sideous himself says in the comics that Yoda would have beat Anakin easily. And in the revenge of the sith book. It's kind of revealed Sideous ordered dooku to not fight at full power and to go easy on Anakin. Plus when your old as count dooku you don't have the stamina you used to. I still firmly think Count dooku is number one all day baby. But I also think Anakin belongs on the bottom of the list. I know Anakin fans will force choke me but come on. Anakin is VERY reliant on the force and the dark side in a lot of his duels and take away the force and Anakin is suddenly not nearly as deadly as he was originally. Sideous also thought grievous could squash Anakin. Hey video idea. Who could beat Anakin Skywalker? Also this video is a kind of lightsaber skill only kind of thing. If the force was more equalized and no chosen one stuff for Anakin as this video claims I think Anakin would be at the bottom of this list.
You miss the part on the introduction and multiple times throughout where he states it’s in a hypothetical scenario where all their force abilities were levelled out. Yoda’s biggest advantage is he is the most powerful Jedi of his era, not his skill. Also simply saying character A beats character B who beats character C, so character A must beat character C doesn’t work on Star Wars. Anakin beat Dooku. Dooku beats Obi-Wan. By that logic, Anakin should beat Kenobi easily, except he actually lost a very hard fight.

How are you leaving out maul he is the best when it comes to pure lightsaber ability the natural speed agility and power from his physical strength is unmatched when he is fighting sidious on mandalore he is only defeated because of his lack of connection to the force he was out duelling him and besting him when it came to technique his ability power stamina without the force make him the best you are violating leaving him out he was controlling both qui gon and obi wan with ease with mostly just aggression and bloodlust just my thoughts

Having a skilled master doesn’t automatically make the student as good. Jin was certainly good, but he’s no where near top tier. He has stated he is nowhere near Dooku, which Dooku agreed with. He lost a 2v1 with Maul, so as fandom said he can’t really be put above Maul.

Did you say Yoda has no originality? Name 1 other Jedi who bounces around and doesn't stay in 1 spot for more than a second? The dude has no line to control, predict or manipulate and is the least static target ever shown in Star Wars. I'm not saying he is the best but what you used to undercut him was extremely incorrect.
