You forgot his main point which he said in one of his videos: riot simply treated him better. When he was invited to events with blizzard he had to pay his own tickets and get his own hotel room, and then sit at a panel (basically being used for free promotion). Riot on the other hand actually treated him well and how you should treat someone you are inviting out to help promote your event (payed his ticket, payed for a room, etc.) and at the end of the day he just got sick of blizzard (as we all haveh

Has he said why he doesn't play Legends of Runeterra? I see he made a few videos when the game was new, but not since then. There's been a ton of new cards since then, so it seems like the perfect game for him to come up with crazy combos to play around with. That's why I play it, along with it being extremely FTP friendly.

I was a regular viewer of his content during his technical HS era. Years ago, when I attended a local event where there was a small HS tourney going on, I saw the mask sitting out at a random table. I tweeted at him to ask if he was there, and he went out of his way to find me. We conversed for a few minutes and offered to take a picture with me. I never got into his post-HS content, but I always respected him for going out of his way to meet up with me and shake my hand. He didn't have to do that.

Toast was simply too good, way ahead of the rest of the streamers, blizzard and the collective stupidity ended up rejecting him.
@andrewyp6724
@andrewyp6724 2 года назад
Blizzard's action was a blessing in disguise(😎) though. I'm pretty sure it was around that time Toast began to branch out, playing/doing other stuff than HS, which laid the groundwork for him becoming this big. As for _collective stupidity,_ doubt it. The way I see it, it was more his fans, not anything Toast did. Toast was/is brilliant. No, not talking about his HS skill, but his general approach to stuffs. This made his fans act obnoxious, putting Toast on a pedestal (ex: decks he didn't made were called Toast's deck because he played it a lot). Not the first nor the last these kind of thing will happen so (Kpop, Justin Bieber, etc. comes to mind).

@@andrewyp6724 I agree with you, but Blizzard's treatment of Toast 100% had a huge impact on him playing HS. I forget where it is but I remember him talking to Scarra about how shitty events were for HS players and how he was constantly left out of events by Blizzard for an extended period of time, while Riot would do the opposite.

I liked how he really understood a lot of the mechanics in the game. he even put them to the test. his showcasing was a double edged sword. he showed other players cheap win combos some with no counter. this plagued the game with some cancerous decks as well as upsetting players who used and went up against them. I remember a few he played that looked really fun, but rarely ever worked. I can imagine some people may end up not liking him for promoting a losing deck. the bugs also contributed to the cancer, but showed the devs they need better balancing and/or coding. devs respond differently to people abusing their games. some think it is interesting and take it as a learning opportunity and others take it as an insult and instead of fixing the bug they just regulate the use. I think this is common in the speed running community, but it's often on games that are unable to be updated.

I feel like toast just got tired of hearthstone. The gameplay, the company, the community. Tbh as a player who started playing in late 2017, I feel him. The game has changed a lot, blizzard made some questionable decisions, added more modes not to make the experience more fun but to monetize the game more, the original team who made the game and its core design philosophies left, big events become standard and unmemorizable, a lot of og streamers and pros left the game, toxicity runs rampant on ever hearthstone related website/content.Sometimes quitting is the best start. He made some really good friends and found a nice revenue income through other games. Toast is a winner to me.

Toast got me into the game back when KOTFT came out with his Icecrown Citadel interactions and I feel like I had almost the same outlook on the game as him overtime. I left around the midlife of Witchwood and came back recently and man everything is so different (and not in a good way). The creators are all gone due to being mistreated in one way or another. The players are WAY more toxic then they were back then and the game overall feels extremely soulless. Not to mention the sexual harassment scandals that plague Blizzard and their refusal to do anything about it alongside with silencing Hong Kong protest on any of their forums was disgusting to watch.

Fun match. I ended up conceding the match at the end because I pretty much knew his entire opening hand, but I had the game. Personally, I got into Toast's content pretty early on into my HS life (probably late 2015) and I really enjoyed the fun interaction videos. They made him stand out and he was very different. As he switched to more normal gameplay, I drifted away because the content just wasn't for me. Never understood the reddit hate boner but I did write a comment or two about how his shift did lose me (which is fine, people have different tastes). It was pretty sad to see nobody replace him as the interactions guy because it was genuinely unique content and he had a really fun way of doing it. Went back and watched his "Playing hearthstone with a dancepad" video the other day and it's still really good today. Sucks that people went full-blown arsehole on him, glad he's doing well for himself now but still not really the content that interests me.

So my favorite Toast moment was when he was at Blizzcon. A bunch of HS streamers were all in the same streamer area and streaming on each other's accounts. Toast was chatting with Firebat, who had to go somewhere, so Toast jumped on Firebat's account (at Firebat's request). The viewers all wanted him to prank Firebat in some, usually mean, way. Toast chose to disenchant Firebat's fiery bats (a common; this is barely a prank) and make golden SI:7 agents (his voice line is where Toast's name comes from; he says "This guy's toast"). It was a gentle, adorable prank, which kind of sums up Toast to me.

God, I remember back when Toast used to upload those card origins videos. I never really had the opportunity to play WoW for myself, due to how expensive it was, but I absolutely adored the character designs and the lore of Azeroth, and inevitably fell in love with a free-ish game adjacent to WoW: Hearthstone. Those card origins videos were a godsend to me when I was first getting into Hearthstone. It was so unbelievably cool to see that link established between the cards that I came to know and love and the games that they originated from. After getting hooked to that style of content, I promptly subscribed, back when he had around 15k or so. I came for the card origins, and while I missed those videos, I still loved his coverage of bugs, new deck archetypes, and his experiences at actual tournaments. Then he moved on to TFT, which I personally didn't mind too much, since I think at the time I was actually taking a break from Hearthstone AND playing TFT, but once he moved onto more generic content and titles with a broader reach like Among Us, my opinion of him started to sour. Basically, thanks for making this video. It really helps to understand why he made those changes to his content, and at this point, I have nothing but respect for him. Not only is it wrong for me to expect content from a creator who essentially owes me nothing, but Toast had good reasons to move on from Hearthstone to TFT and other games.

Retrospectives on the early content creators of HS would be neat. Fortunately I was along for the ride on most but it's definitely awesome to go back and really show people what this community used to be like. And that's not a knock on the people in the HS community now but more towards Blizzard for not fostering it the way they should and used to back in the fledgeling days and now only seeing dollar signs (as is their right they are a business). But retrospectives on the likes of Hafu, Noxious, Raynad, Firebat, Trump, Forsen, Dog, obviously Toast is done, Kibler, ChanmanV, the list goes on and on and some are still active in other modes or still play but man getting any of those creators together to discuss the current state of a game that helped them make their mark could be fascinating.

Seeing disguised toast become such a huge RU-vidr and streamer, literally playing alongside PewDiePie, has been such a great journey. I quit hearthstone pretty much around the time he also did, but man his OG videos with the cardboard mask were iconic

Damn I didn’t know about this so sad to know people hating on him because he was good and everywhere on hearthstone Reddit but in the end because of haters he ended up growing his community bigger and even more content where we got to see him as a person rather than just a smart hearthstone streamer, we also got to see how he was so smart on a ton of different games creating even more funny moments.

I still watch toast but a video showing how he went from HS to 3.5 million subscribers would be very interesting. Like you said its very hard to switch games nevermind growing that much.

How come you haven't talk about the whole reason he went from Blizzard to riot(league of legends) content when he was talking about it on "offline TV"? Basically the whole story boils down to Blizzard sending him an invitation of testing new things for them(I think i was an E3 event) and just paying for the trip(no trip back, hotel, food expenses or time invested) Meanwhile, Riot payed for Toast's trip, trip back, hotel, breakfast for 2-3 days and about $500(don't remember if this part was true). Not to mention, the way he was treated when he was at the Blizzard event. He had to wait 45mins because it wasn't ready and he wasn't informed until it was too late. He received no staff help whatsoever and 0 free goodies. While, in the Riot event, he had a staff member by his side during the entire time and was reachable in his hotel for more detail information on the event. He received free goodies, merch, free drinks. He felt really appreciated for his time unlike Blizzard.

I had heard that the people at Blizzard did not treat him well during an event.

He was my favourite Hearthstone youtuber (though for my entire life I actively watched 4 Hearthstone related channels), and I remember being realy disappointed when he stopped making videos on Hearthstone, and I did not even know why, because I didn't follow much media at the time.

i followed toast since his hearthstone days and its practically what made him and started his confidence 1000 IQ persona. Totally understand why he left though I would like to see him back some day when blizzard stop their greediness (which probably means never)

Toast was best thing in hearthstone content community. While everyone is just streaming their leader climb (or now bg climb) he really made fun stuff that even people who are not that competitive could watch just for fun. Such a sad turn of events, really miss his hs content

The part at the end about online hate is so real. I think a lot of people don't realise just how hard it would be to deal with hate on that level. It's easy to shrug off a few haters, but none of us have experienced literally thousands of people hating on you every day for clips you didn't even post for no reason. Unless your a massive content creator on that level you just can't imagine what it's like to deal with. It's really sad what these Internet trolls do to someone's self esteem on that scale.
