This really helped. I did keto for 3 years. Then has the most stressful year. Made decision to move with my son and his family. They lived in Europe for 12 years and were returning to states. Their children had never lived in states. Did not know where we were going until May. Sold everything and my home. Lots of decisions. My A1c went from 6.4 to 8.3. Moved and ate what family was eating. Sugars were everywhere. Last month decided to do keto and moving toward carnivore. Just as aside… in December started a UTI that did not respond to meds. In mid January was given cipro. Terrible reaction. A week later I could not breathe. Blood clots in both lungs. Now 3 months later I am feeling so much better. My BS has been up and down. The last 10 days my morning sugars are getting higher. This morning 170. When I went to bed it was 115. I am losing weight and inches. This video helped so much because now I think old sugar is being dumped from liver and the rest of my body. See my new primary doctor next week and hope he will not push meds. Thank you for giving me a place to vent. No one may read this but I feel better putting thoughts on paper. 🌻

Hi Judi. I am so excited to see that our stories are parallel in many regards. I am also a keto/IF wagoneer that took a tumble. I fell off with my struggles with menopause. I am two weeks back on the IF wagon. I started keto, but am focused on carnivore right now. I also did the sardine fast last week with fabulous results even though I was repulsed by the thought of eating them. The satiety effect and way that ghrelin was shut down nearly within 48 hours was astounding. I have dropped 16.8 lbs since May 5th. My BS and K numbers were fantastic last week, but the past few days my BS is hovering just over 100 which alarmed me....until this video. My ketones remain elevated and Dr Boz ratio is in the 20's. Already seeing positive results in skin, reduction in hair loss, vibrancy in mind and sight, etc. Prayers that your test results permit your doc to allow you to pursue this fasting journey. I am with you. 💪💪💪

@@regankercheval9296 not the best results with new doctor. Just wanted to push more meds. Blood clots returned less than 30 days off blood thinner. New doctor saw no reason for me to stay on Eliquist. Now looking for new doctor. Down 30 lbs and sugars are better. A12 was 7.4 in May. Have lots of questions for new doctor. I am now 20 days out of ICU and breathing so much better. Even back doing PT. Lots to learn and moving toward better health.

SO glad I found this video. I am 71 years old and prediabetic. Both of my parents had diabetes and both had a leg amputated as a result. Both died of complications from diabetes - heart attack and congestive heart failure. I want to reverse this before it gets worse. So, I have been following a low carb diet (not keto for now) and IF (18:6) with one day a week of a 36+ hour fast (beginning post dinner on day 1 through day 2 and ending with a late breakfast on day 3). The first 2 months I saw gradually improving blood sugars and lost 13 pounds. However, starting with the 3rd month, my fasting number began rising. And it got way worse for several days after donating blood. (I do double red cell donation 3X/year). In desperation, I began looking through my youtube subscriptions (yes, I am a subscriber)for a possible explanation. Found this one, viewed it, and now feel less panicked. The message I got from this video is that my body has burned through the sugar that was in my blood and now is starting to burn the stored sugar in my liver and muscles. This has encouraged me to stay the course because I realize that I need to use up that stored sugar before I can begin to see lower fasting glucose numbers. I just need to be patient and keep to my low carb (under 50g/day) diet and IF schedule. Hopefully, I will see improving numbers in the next few weeks. I have renewed determination to stay the course. Thank you.

Im on the way to insulin sensitivity and normal blood glucose. Just woke up to a beautiful sunrise on my special day. Reviewed my progress over the last 9 months of the fasting lifestyle. started the journey at 93-94 kg and an HbA1c of 15.8. after 3 months without metformin due to severe side effects to an HbA1c of 9.8 after 6 months HbA1c of 7.1 and now 9 months down to an HbA1c of 6.4 my weight now is 74-75 kg. Tomorrow will be taking out stitches from my big toe. Which changed my lifestyle for 3 weeks due to recovery and reduction of exercise. Its amazing that you can get your health , vitality and youth back even later in life. May the blessings be.

@@MohamedWanis_Elruemi Hi! I just got my keto mojo and have similar results. Glucose is higher than expected in the morning but lower after I eat - sometimes accompanied by not feeling so great - brain fog, tired, etc. I've always ate healthy, don't have diabetes and am quite athletic, lean and muscular. I work out regularly - weightlifting & cross fit workouts 5-6 days a week. I got into fasting for the healing/recovery/brain health effects, but I'm at a loss for what is going on with these numbers! Perhaps I'm insulin resistant or pre-diabetic? I typically follow a relatively low carb diet without many sweets, plenty of protein, decent amount of fat. I do eat fruit. So confused, but hoping time will bring clarity.

Hi Dr Mindy. I have been on a water./coffee fast for the past 22 days and it has been a huge learning curve for me, Have lost 10kgs and have listened to a lot of your videos to get guidance. Thank you so much for helping me through this, It has been difficult at times, especially the first few days, but I am determined to fix my painful joints and muscles (the main reason for fasting) my overall health and get back to my ideal weight. Every time I watch one of your videos it helps me to understand what is going on in my body and boosts my determination to keep going! I only just recently bought a Glucose/Ketone monitor and it is the first time I have ever measured my own blood glucose level, but it went up whilst doing my dry fast, so was a bit concerned, but now I know why. But as you explained it, it is pretty logical really, Thank you ever so much! I would love a free copy of the Companion Guide (and the possibilty of receiving a free box of the LMNT) Thank you again. 💞 Just one question... as my eyes are getting better, does that mean the rest of my organs are free of fat/toxins, or does it mean that it is still wotking on them along with the other organs, because my leg muscles and joints are still a bit sore? Oh, sorry, another question ... when dry fasting, is it wise to do exercise, like walking for 15 minutes, as, when I did that it wacked me so much that my body told me to sleep as soon as I got back, and I slept on and off for the rest of the day! So not sure it was good for me?

I needed this. I’m 69 y.o. and have been IF for over 2 years. I also went grain and sugar free last year following igG testing and gave up my allergens(gluten, oats, sugar, yeast, chocolate, almonds). I’ve dropped over 60# and am now down to my ideal weight. My fasting glucose is still 103-108 but my A1C dropped from 5.9 to 5.4. I’ve had serious glaucoma causing vision loss for at least 15 years requiring medication and surgical intervention. Three months ago my eye pressure was normal for the first time since they’ve been monitoring it, and yesterday it was tested again and still normal. PTL! I’m completely off medication for asthma and COPD (and symptom free) except for a short time when I had the “Fauci Flu”. All those years of needless suffering eliminated with dietary changes.

I do keto and intermittent fasting everyday and eat one meal a day (most of the time) but my sugar has been extremely high so I decided to fast. This is my 3rd day fasting. The first day, my sugar was relatively high and all over the place. The 2nd day, morning sugar wasn't but but it went up around 11 AM but started to drop and went up little bit. 3rd day, my morning sugar was 117. This has been the best number in months! Companion guide.

Awesome video Dr Mindy! I have had Type 2 diabetes for about 15 years. It's a long story, but I have been working on it with non-mainstream (ie no medication) methods for years and continuously learning about it. I was not managing well a few years ago and my fasting glucose was 13-15 mmoL/L (235-270 mg/dL). I saw a GP (MD) and they were shocked. I started to get mild retinopathy and then knew I had to do something urgently. Against the doctor's advice, I did not take medication and arrived at eliminating all carbohydrates and continuing with fasting that I have been practising for years. My glucose levels are after ~6 months of this tend to be 5-8 mmoL/L but they do spike to 10-12 mmoL/L (180-215 mg/dL) on occasion and sometimes after significant fasting. I suspect that my body is "dumping" glucose from higher level stores as you describe (ie #2-6).

Great info! Thanks for sharing! I got the Companion Guide through email. I’ve been living a fasting lifestyle for a few years to help me manage post menopause life. Mineral deficiency is of concern. Not being from USA prompts a decision on spending the $ for currency exchange, shipping, + perhaps customs fees above product cost. Trying to navigate with local product. Finally splurged on Keto-Mojo and it claims my BG trends

Hi. I looked glucose dump today after KetMojo testing (4) times during a 49.5 hour fast. I've been fasting since February 8th, 24, and varying the windows. This is the 1st time my highest glucose reading was 129 after 30 hours. I'm enjoying learning about my body and have lost 24lbs since starting Keto. All my clothes are baggy. Yay !!! Thank you, Dr. Mindy.

Hi there, What did you do before measuring your blood sugar numbers? As you know, not just dumping stored sugar can cause blood sugar to spike, stress and exercise can be the reason as well. 🙂

Great explanation. My bgs are good during the day while fasting but are spiking throughout the night. Many videos talk about the dawn phenomenon but the spike is not in the morning, its throughout the night. I liked your explanation and will continue to monitor.

This is excellent. Thank you for defining a fasting glucose as there are so many ranges if you look for a simple answer, the worst being, "it depends." The explanation makes perfect sense and is a relief knowing this is occurring. Been strict keto for almost a month now and morning blood sugars are still > 100. However, I've also been T2D for almost 22 years, trying to control it with every diet on the face of the earth and inconsistent exercise with all kinds of failure until keto. Keto and IF rock.

Hello! Thank you for this important information, at least very important to me. I have just learned that I am diabetic and have just started monitoring blood sugars. For around two weeks, blood sugars have been fluctuating upon waking, in a fasted state: 190, 121, 171, 121. But before going to sleep it has been as low, as, for me so far, 108. Yes, I have also started a carnivore diet, which by the way, has helped with a whole host of issues. While for me intermittent fasting has been easy, insomnia has been a regular visitor ever since perimenopause and menopause. Thank you for sharing your research with us. Yes, have ordered "Fasting Like a Girl" in order to gain more control and understanding.

Hi Dr. Pelz, thank you for such clear explanation of what's going on with blood sugars. I have been fasting for years but recently I had a root canal and took over the counter Motrin. Because it is so harsh on the stomach I ate every four to six hours for 3 to 4 days. Now since I'm back in fasting mode, I noticed that my blood sugar is rising and I was getting so disturbed. This has given me an understanding that I would have otherwise not have known. Thank you again!
