Local stores have gone nuts on the price of parts. AutoZone wanted 129.00 for a windshield wiper motor. Same brand on Amazon was 49.99. Oddly enough they matched the price and I got it. A month later I'm told they only match local stores. They stopped matching Amazon and never did match Rock Auto. Looked up a part the other day that was 15.05 on Amazon and 59.99 local. I think Food Lion did the same thing years ago and now most of their stores have closed. These stores are loosing customers so they raise the price to make up for the loss in revenue. Then they loose more when customers feel they are being taken advantage of. They do loan out tools. Wonder what they would think of they loaned me a tool to install an Amazon part.

I really want auto parts stores around. I just think they need to step up their game. I tweeted them just last month. I searched for "2006 civic battery" and it brought up a 16pack of AAA batteries. They replied that I need to enter my car information first. Their stubbornness to make a smarter search is losing them customers. I have borrowed tools once or twice. I have a Harbor Freight nearby so now I can buy tools for pretty cheap. Auto shops are so expensive these days you can spend quite a bit on tools and still be under what it costs to pay someone to do the work.

I have found the same problems. parts stores have raised parts price to sell their house brands.

Great info. sorry you had to go thru the frustration, but you saved me from going thru it. I agree completely. An issue w/1 of the auto parts I use, is where I've created an account, put in my vehicle info and even when I'm signed in, it still asks for the vehicle info??? I will go thru Amazon. Ty

I posted this four years ago and nothing has improved. I was even in an auto parts store the other day to purchase a thermostat gasket. They said they didn't have one for my vehicle. The guy did a little more digging and found one listed as a "thermostat o-ring". A good system should cross search. To be fair, I was at the auto parts store because the one I got from Amazon was the wrong one. This might be the first time that had happened and had I read the comments on the product, I would have know that before ordering. Interestingly, it was a name brand product (Aisin).

I agree that part stores are ripping people off, and their web sites are terrible. I've had good luck with amazon parts.

There are some parts i'd attempt off amazon, as long as its not important or not much risk. But i would never ever ever buy parts for engine, tranny, or suspension off amazon for instances. Depends on the risk vs reward.

@@LanceLust1980HugeTheWarningFan I would caution you to reassess your opinion on price vs. quality for auto parts. Most part stores carry several lines of the same part with different prices. The parts are identical, the only difference is the warranty period and the box. This applies to Autozone or Amazon. Price can reflect a better quality part, but manufacturing origin is a much better indicator than price.
