Yep Herbert had arguably the best pure qb numbers for a rookie. Complete opposite of what at least scout's saw.

Herbert was an awful QB prospect. Even if you knew Mario Cristobal was awful like he is. To assume a coach would fuck up a QB that bad is insane. But that's what happened

IMHO: Pennix relied on WRs that outclassed their defenders (they win jump balls almost every time). The formula was obvious. Won't happen at the next level. Pennix repeatedly scrambled under a not-so-great offensive line and he would run while his great WRs found an opening, then last second made a play. Awesome, but not useful for the NFL. At the next level, he'll just be sacked. His offense required little recognition of defenses and he showed no high IQ doing that. He has arm talent. He has accuracy, but also has lots of spurts of terrible and he neeeds to read defenses... which wasn't a requirement. Not expecting much from Pennix in the NFL. I can be wrong and you can mock me if I am. Just one man's opinion.

In his defense Herbert was a really tamed and limited QB in Oregon, but now we know that it was all coaching and offensive philosophy not that Herbert himself wasn't a capable passer.

There's a reason why most teams with their million dollar scouting teams suck at evaluating QBs. That's a crazy stat. Obviously people see Williams creating and wanna label him as the next Mahomes. But Mahomes has ELITE pocket presence, and will find the RB for a 4 yard gain. Williams on the other hand, misses open guys and takes sacks while directing traffic down field. Obviously he's young and can be coached up, but is Matt Eberflus and Shane Waldron the duo to do it?

He was saying that Penix looks to throw it deep to Odunze rather than actually progressing through his reads leading him to miss open receivers. This would be an issue in the NFL because he won't have an Odunze to bail him out on poorly placed deep balls.

This video made no sense. It starts off praising Penix for being able to "make all the throws" and also some throws he's never seen a QB make, for finding holes in places no QB finds holes, and for his willingness to push the ball downfield with the best of them. I thought Rollins was about to anoint him the next CJ Stroud. But then he just went on a negative nacny parade. He actually criticized Penix for always being willing to give Odunze a shot on one-one coverage -- like this is a bad thing? And like it proves that Penix owes his success to Odunze, bu apparently none of Odunze's success was helped by hving Penix deliver the ball to him at the first hint of a crack of daylight. if Penix was Fools Gold, has Rollins figured out what likely happends wwhen a highly talented WR doesnt have a pretty talented QB thrwoing to him? Nothing, thats what happens. The WR talent is wasted, he may still put up good numbers but the offense as a whole is decidedly un-explosive. Happens all the time.

Not to mention something like 40 fumbles for Williams, usually at the worst possible time after he just ignored a wide open guy for an easy first down.

Michael penix 9.2 yards per attempt. Bo nix 9.6 yards per attempt with a 77% completion rate. Seems like penix may be the short distributor.

That's actually a very legitimate question. It is not easy to learn either in the pros. Probably more guys have failed by not being able to learn to distribute short passes, but guys without big arms aren't pushed as hard to be #1 QB's. Guys who can only distribute become backup quarterbacks. Guys who can't distribute end up out of the league no matter how big their arms are. I think it's worth drafting him if he can be in a Jordan Love situation. He's got a lot to learn, but I think he can learn it.

It's unlikely he's gonna be a star, but he can be solid in the right situation

The Rams could pick him up to back to learn behind Stafford, or whatever team picks up Kirk Cousins. The biggest problem is there aren’t really many vets to study under.

I think he's got great talent but I don't think he's quite built for this game. The wincing and effective 'tapping out' demeanor he had in the National Championship game is scary. I wouldn't want to invest in a QB that can't handle the moment. (Lamar Jackson falls to pieces every playoffs). I actually think he has all the tools but his heart isn't up to it.

He’s 24 that’s not really old. Mahomes has won 3 sb at 28. If penix could even get you too a Super Bowl before 28 that’s not a bust.

I would argue that LSU has the best WR core. Other than that, I completely agree.

@@cml007 There’s nothing wrong with drafting a 24 year old prospect (see Joe Burrow). The problem is that Michael Penix Jr. is not a good 24 year old prospect. He’s had 2 years of actual playing experience due to his extensive injury history, his mechanics aren’t great, he isn’t really athletic, and he doesn’t work the middle of the field.

And a fantastic o-line. I don’t think he will do too well otherwise.

@@jaredclark173 Not really. Herbert has absolutely crushed his floor having played with 4 different OCs, meh WRs, no real running game and a spotty O-line at the pro level. Even with an OC whose passing offense were dink and dunks/runs on early downs and curls/stick routes that doesn't go past the marker on late passing downs. Mothafucka still tried to make it work and was a reason why the Chargers were competitive in late games when Staley couldn't get shit right. CJ Stroud was not only making Nico Collins and Tank Dell look really good but it made Slowik's wide zone style offense work even when the O-line was tanked the first 7 weeks due to injuries. Some QBs help elevate the existing scheme than what its expected to be.

Basically no change in environment and a fanbase that already likes him, plus a team that has gotten good value out of QB's that were not highly regarded before Seattle in Russ and Geno.

Anthony Richardson is a massive elite athlete. Penix is a chronically injured qb with average athletic traits. One of those is not like the other.

Its funny because when bad teams fell in love with QBs like Baker and Zach Wilson for their mobility, arm strength but some questionable decision making, Geno been had those traits and been honing his reps for at least a decade.

It's actually a really good take & all you have to do is go watch his game against Michigan top see how he performs against good talent. NFL Talent is better than Michigan's.

Also, you’re going to fault him for aggressively taking shots, in a offensive scheme that runs on stretching the field? Also, he has more good deep passes, and big time throws, than anyone in this class. He had a 65% comp percentage with the highest depth of target. I can find just as many alarming stats with the other prospects, in fact, more alarming, and tape. Caleb holds onto to the ball an alarming amount of time, JD lack’s anticipation, plays a very college offense, the most open throws in the draft, Maye struggles throwing outside of the numbers, and with his speed of progressions, and mechanics, also takes too many sacks when pressured, Nix has a average arm, doesn’t go past 1st progression, and most of his passes were at, or behind the line. The MOST pro ready, wasn’t translate to the pros game, is Penix.
