Why Most Straight Armlocks From The Guard Fail

A proper straight armlock from guard is one of the most important submissions to know when defending from guard.
Whether you are a beginner learning this for the first time or have struggled with getting an armbar from this position, this information should be valuable. Remember to raise your hips once you secure the arm.
Keep downward pressure on their torso and head when finishing the armlock so they can’t escape. This will also prevent them from stacking you where they could potentially injure your neck or back.
Whether you cross your feet or not is unimportant.

Loved the video. One detail I'd change about the armlock demonstrated in the video is the way she configured her legs (crossed). Would prefer to see the legs parallel while squeezing but also applying pressure downward on the back of the head to prevent stacking as a defense.

4 years of leaving the gate open for the arm to move and just focusing on throwing the leg over the face quicker.... geeze. Thanks Kenny and Justine for hopefully adding a cleaner armbar to my arsenal of fatguy kimura and....um.... get back to you on the rest. Good instruction makes good technique look simple.

Again a truly professional explanation and execution and demonstration of proper form and techniques! In addition one of the beautiful things about pure training is the level of respect, honesty, and trust that arises between people regardless of any perceived differences outside of the dojo! Good professional instruction, training, and competition gracefully solves problems and builds good relationships based on mutual respect and you can definitely see that here !!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💪🏽

@KennyFlorian

Teaching people to “never cross the feet” is one of the dumbest things taught and repeated in jiu-jitsu. Going to do a video on this actually.
@imloggedin
@imloggedin 3 года назад
@@KennyFlorian Danaher addresses this in his armbar video. Suffice to say he doesn't think it's the "best" way due to lack of head control. I didn't say never - just not the best IMO.
@KennyFlorian
@KennyFlorian 3 года назад
@@imloggedin and I’d say this, investigate it for yourself and see if that’s true or not. Crossing or not crossing has no impact on head control from that position. Pressure from your legs and how you do it does. Crossing/not crossing is irrelevant.
@imloggedin
@imloggedin 3 года назад
@@KennyFlorian I respect your opinion and will investigate it for myself in more detail; however, Danaher goes over the leg positions in detail, showing how unlocked legs provide better posture control. He also mentions that Roger Gracie regretted using crossed feet in competition. I want to clarify that I'm only talking about armbar's from guard, not top positions. I did enjoy the details of this video and was just being picky/goofy with my comment. 👍
