Madden ratings have not always been For The Brand This is a clip from The Pat McAfee Show live from 10am-Noon EST Mon-Fri. SUBSCRIBE: / @thepatmcafeeshow MERCH: store.patmcafeeshow.com
@realist 1 only if said thing doesn't change. Madden 21 will be the exact same minus graphics as madden 15. You know this game is a joke when the champion of it runs one play because it can't be stopped whatever you do
@@marshallpeters1437 Metas always exist and form in competitive video games. I agree that Madden sucks, but there will always be exploitable things that people who study it will find. See Y-Trail when Jermichael Finley was on the Packers.
@@Cockaboobledoo This is not a lie either. And it wasn't a surprise as many coaches went to that tournament with similar rosters and plans. He just actually won it.
Football hasn’t changed. What do you want changed? I honestly have issues with the game and dislike it and hate ea. But what major changes are you making. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Nestrados I haven’t messed with an nba 2k franchise mode in a few years. Can’t say o thought it was very ground shattering. You don’t say anything. Just say look at that. Again. Like what
@@blahblah8037 Quick list of just a few features NBA2K has had for years that Madden would benefit tremendously from... 1. A comprehensive injury/health system. A generalized injury rating isn't realistic. If a player has a bad knee, he should specifically have a bad knee. 2. Secondary positions. It completely breaks the AIs ability to build teams because they can't tell that a player like Suh should be valued at both DT and DE. 3. Trade logic that takes into account a team's current standing and short term expectations. 4. Player finder and player comparisons. 5. Special abilities and personality traits. After having this in the game over a decade ago, Madden is just now finally dipping their toes back into the water. But have done so in an utterly inferior way. 6. The way NBA2K allows you to set free throws to RealPlayer% Madden should allow you to do the same for kickers. 7. Player mentorship. I could keep going, but I think you get the point. Compared to a game like 2K, Madden is lacking big time. Every year Madden does the minimum. There big new feature is almost always something that has been in other games for years and done WAY better in those games.
@KYB It's been almost 15 years since I played a Madden game let alone owning the game... I think the last one I played had a franchise mode, where after game there was a news article and a radio host where they actually talk about your player and team...
I used to buy Madden close to release every year. In the last 5 years I've waited until prices dropped to 20 dollars. After seeing the complete disregard for Franchise mode (and that's not an exaggeration... They're doing NOTHING for offline franchise) and the continual push from EA to try and get people to play MUT and spend more money... This will be the first year I don't buy Madden at all I think. I know I'm just one consumer and EA doesn't care but hopefully their sales eventually suffer enough that they start really working hard on improving gameplay and other modes. Or maybe 2K or another company will finally get rid of EA's monopoly.
They could literally make a game called “Madden NFL” and give us updates when the year is over or the roster changes but they rather finesse us out of $60 every year 😂🤷🏾♂️
I think it considers overall performance and the performance of the past season. That being said, he needs to be a 90 minimum. I mean it has Justin Simmons and Jamal Adams lower than Tyrann Matthieu
"It’s a giant scam. I buy it every year" pisses me off because that's how the masses think about Madden. A good solution I've adopted is buying it every year 1 year behind so it like a third/quarter the price.
@@ObsTurdBucket Really? I thought people liked online play on EA sports games. FIFA Ultimate Team was also popular because people loved creating teams and using the auction market.
Stafford until he got injured in week 8 was the number two quarterback in the NFL last year he led the league in yards per attempt last year and was also leading the league in touchdown passes and call it what you will but Kansas City game was robbed from Detroit along with that Green Bay Packer game
Madden 05 on PS2 best game ever! With Ray Lewis on the cover and that's when the(hiT stick) came out and shake the whole screen and rattled the joystick!
The best should be 95-99 Superstars should be 90-94 Great players should be 85-89 Good players should be 80-84 Average starers should be 75-79 Quality backups should be 70-74 Average backups should be 65-69 Special teamers and/or career backups should be 60-64 Guys that constantly get cut/signed should be 55-59
Found my old PS2 while cleaning during quarantine. I have been playing NFL 2K5 nonstop for the past 2 months. Forgot how great it is. 15 Years old and still better than new Madden.
One of the beautiful ironies of madden ratings is that awareness is so heavily favored at every position and a lot of the guys who cant figure out why they're rated so low are unaware of this fact.
However, they need to adjust madden ratings for kicker and punters. You can have 99 kicking stats (which really is all that matters for a kicker) and they still wont by a 90 overall.
Talking about the brand, Long snappers get dogged out year after year. They keep making them 30 overall tight ends. And then in the depth charts your left guard is your long snapper in game... it’s a very critical position in real life and in madden it makes zero difference who plays it
adam tranello I disagree, I think that would be very cool, you can add a clutch factor and it means your kickers clutch, your holders clutch, and your long snappers clutch all need to add together and it can be like the black part of the kicking meter. So the more clutch you have, the bigger the bar. Those guys mess up in real life, and for long snappers especially, you only get about 2 bad snaps before you are cut. There needs to be more aspects of special teams that can go wrong other than a perfectly timed jump of the snap
Shoot, I love me some Mutant Football League. Spiritual successor to NFL Blitz. Great team names like Scarolina Panzers. You can kill your opponent's players into a victory.
Petition to have pat head up the ratings group for all kickers and punters next year. It'd be awesome to have big name retired players being part of the committee that gives ratings for their position.
The song "Clean Living" by RJD2 will always remind me of NFL 2K5. The presentation, soundtrack, and gameplay all worked together so well. I just went back to play it two days ago. Awesome game! :)
@@troymcknight2797 wildcat formation, scramble to the left, the cornerback will abandon the WR and go in the direction of the player playing QB (also a WR), then pass the ball to the wide open WR and score the touchdown. Works every time.
Cut It do you play mut and spend your life savings to get a team that will be irrelevant in a year? How about the actual gameplay? Or try playing a older madden/ ESPN NFL 2k5?
@@capncrunch4298 I was about to say it sounds like they never watched a Pro Bowl before early 2000s. But it was cool that the Super Bowl participants were in the skills competitions too. Those Pro Bowl competitions were often more fun to watch than the Pro Bowl.
Madden's rating should be like FIFA's. Give even the best players in the game room for growth. Don't give them outright 99 overalls but give them 99 potential. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the best players in soccer right now, maybe ever, but they start at 93 or 94 with 99 potential. Kylian Mbappe, World Cup winner, only 21 years old with a 89 rating and 99 potential. For instance, Pat Mahomes is the best QB in the league and at 24 years old he has all the room to keep improving. Give him a 94 or 95 with 99 potential so people playing franchise mode can keep developing him. By being given 99 from the beginning there's nowhere else to go but down, the same also applies with other players. Another example, Joe Burrow, perhaps the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck. The Bengals drafted him to be their QB1 so he's gotta be good. Give him a 80-82 with 95 potential. The same could also apply with Tua but given his injury issues maybe he could only potentially get to 91 overall at best. And of course, the potential are just that, potential. They can develop way more than that.
Franchise mode doesnt make as much money :( they manipulate the ratings in that way to encourage people to buy it year after year because ratings are the only things that change
Ea sent out madden game directors to my high school to talk about their job and none of them watched football. Their teams are ppl just getting experience to get into better companies
They should do a madden combine in the offseason so they can have accurate numbers for measurables like strength, speed, agility, acceleration, etc. You could even get some pressure sensors and see who can hit the hardest. Then they only have to guess at situational variables like tackling ability, catching, throwing accuracy under pressure, punt power, etc which they can use stats to help calculate. If you never drop a ball like Fitz then you could have a 99 compared to agholar who would be lower. If your pass accuracy goes down drastically when blitzed it would be lower too. This combine could essentially replace the probowl and have several days of coverage. You get all the starting QBs to see who can throw the ball the furthest. Start off with the scrubs and finish with mahomes, rodgers, and Allen. You could have the pro bowl winners play some other games like dodgeball or something to entertain people and reward players that get the pro bowl nod. Do it after the SB in the offseason so all the Pro bowlers can participate.
They recently tried to do a re-skew of the ratings to push the line of average/good to around 80. They wanted to make 90+ very rare and 99 almost impossible, because in the old games like half the league was 90+
I think the key is that some stats have to be manipulated for game balancing reasons. Such as passing strength in a punter. It’d be dumb if you could just do a punt fake pass on every 4th down since your punter has a QB rating of even 70 or something
Speaking of your college days this past weekend I watched the 2008 fiesta bowl(it’s on RU-vid) because I wanted to watch one of my favorite college teams of all time and it just so happens that punter from that team would end up hosting my favorite sports talk show
I have formulated the best rating for Madden rosters, My roster for 2020 PS4 is - 4SPORT Allpro + Probowl round off 90ratings, 4.3 speed = 97, 4.7 speed = 93 etc. All time rosters have every team loaded ... Added Superstars from other sports.
Graphics don't entirely everything. Besides some just prefer to play college over NFL. I'd rather play a Oklahoma dynasty compared to a 49ers Franchise
Y'all missing out on the early to mid 2000s NCAA football games. Would play those 10-15 seasons deep. Absolutely loved the trophy rooms and seeing all the Heismans and stuff I got through out the seasons.
back in the day I would play franchise, and one of my first moves was to always trade for Mcafee, and Marquette King. I'd make Marquette the kicker, and keep Pat at punter. Had to be the coolest special teams room that never existed.
The funny thing is that after getting backlash from the players for so many years, they created a job called “Madden Ratings Adjuster” where the adjusters go to games and take notes/watch to better update weekly ratings.
One thing about ratings in stuff like Madden and 2k, with a punter or kicker, they could be a 75 overall, but has a 95 for kick accuracy and power. They're great as a kicker or punter, but in every position they have the same ratings. It's like a defensive lineman being a lower overall because of stuff like speed, throw accuracy, throw power, and stuff like that, but having good stats that pertain to being a defensive lineman. I think that's what a lot of people don't get, it's not that your overall is low so you're a bad player, it's that your overall is low because you'd struggle in other positions because you don't have the stats that pertain to those
Madden is like the nfl combine, they’re putting numbers to measure a player’s talent. Matt Breida has the fastest time in a game while John Ross has the fastest 40 yet both aren’t the fastest players in the game. Also this year Patrick Mahomes threw a football out of a stadium and doesn’t have the highest throw power
The last good Madden game imo is Madden '06/'07 on PS2 (never played '08). The Career mode was top tier, choosing your pedigree always kept you glued to that screen until you got that broken HoF Dual QB/College Sprinter combo, plus Franchise mode, and Madden Cards: the loot box before loot boxes. It wasn't tedious at all to earn the Madden coins, and they were *SOOOO* easy to get once you change the sliders. And the greatest feature? Create-a-Team. Creating your own team from scratch, with your own colors, your own stadium, and you can even create your own fans. Not to mention those 50 OVR European cupcake teams in the team select screen.
pat i know you won’t see this comment but i’m so glad your proud to go to WVU, i live in WV and it’s just cool to see someone that went there really make it and still be proud to say you were there
The last good Madden game I played was 2005 when the hit stick was introduced. The minicamps were amazing but all the best parts of the game have disappeared & buttons are next to impossible to learn.
This is pretty funny. My neighbor is actually one of the people that do stats for players. He was a programmer on the series for a long time and now he mostly does film and stats, but its all secretive, he never would say how or what he does but i know he does do alot of film watching
2:35 I was in the shower with my waterproof wireless earbuds in washing soap out of my eyes when this happened. I have never been more scared in my life.
The peak of ratings was when Texans were an expansion franchise and you could do the expansion draft and rarely if ever see a player on the level of Tony Boselli, lol. Anyways, 90s were rare compared with today and 99 was for freaks like Randy Moss. What made the ratings work so well was players had chance to go 10-20 point improvement in a single season if they got playing time and did well.
This is exactly why I still play nfl 2k5 for Xbox and I go on operation sports and update to the latest rosters. Madden doesn't really have to try with no competition. I prefer game play to graphics anyday.
Why? Honest question. Last madden i had was 16. Just havent played video games anymore which is why i dont have the newer ones. But what makes them trash now?
@@edgarorozco3513 you don't need to pass. In the madden championship a guy ran the ball 52 times and dominated the game bc running plays are op. Nothing has changed and all their doing is adding in things that were already in the game
Okay well first off they dumb down the game blockers don't work the little animation ruins simulation football. And franchise mode the only reason why I get mad in they not only do not improve it but they have been taking out features year to year. they don't care about players who get Madden for simulation franchise mode based gameplay they only pump out Madden for mut their little monetize sub game. Their player models are trash a lot of the players don't even look like their real life counterparts and again franchise mode has not gotten any better from year to year they put a Fresh coat of paint on it and they call it a day
Ryan Moody’s channel started out pure, like most things. Then he became corrupt. His channel is basically an anti-ea sports propaganda channel now. Back in the beginning, he seemed to really be about promoting simulation football. No matter who it came from. Like Gideon prime used to. Now every RyanMoody21 video is like highlighting another terrible madden glitchy play. If you watch his video and never played the game, you could come out thinking every play in madden is glitchy and broken and happens every game, all game
Slim is chillin I mean with the way blocking is so broken that is a pretty fair assessment. Every other play has someone just standing there not doing anything regardless of what assignment you’ve put them on
Yeah i wonder how they do it. Because justin jefferson had a 93 overall speed which was a much higher rating then plenty of dudes who ran the 40 faster. So its not based on data
Here's the thing about Madden and the game mechanics. WR position, it's more important to have a high "Route running" number than a speed number. Higher RR stat actually means WR runs that route faster, it's only until manual control is given after completion that speed comes into effect. That's why you will sometimes see either a burst of speed or a slight lag of speed after completion. Honestly one of the best WR in Madden 15 was Alshon Jeffery. His card had a 97ish RR and you could literally destroy coverages just having him run and route you want. It was just a matter of reading what type of coverage was out there.
You know, I might be one of the few people who actually had a favorite punter and kicker (not on my own team). I remember Sauerbrun being my favorite . He had a big leg and was so good at angling punts. You, Sauerbrun, Vinatieri, and the Anderson Brothers were superstars in my eyes even though you were special teams players.
