1. In my opinion, it is not unfair for the other heroes because Rizal used another way of protecting our country which is his brain and knowledge. He also motivated the whole country and disapproved of using violence to govern everything. 2. I think the most important point is that he inspired the revolution that set us free. He wrote numerous novels but the two of the most prominent was El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere. Those two novels were an important factor in setting our country free and it changed the perspective of a lot of people. 3. Another reason why we need to study Rizal’s life and works is that he made huge contributions not just in setting our country free but also in other fields like the Philippine are, literature, and medicine which was important in bolstering our countries improvement. 4. Yes, because he used his intellect and knowledge to help our country in a lot of different ways. 5. Yes, he once said “kabataan ang pagasa ng bayan” which a lot of Filipinos embody until this day. This quote became their motivation for doing the best they can in the field they work or study on. 6. Yes. Loyola (A18)

I think the third reason which is "He inspired the Revolution that set us free" is the most important on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal. Each one of us has the right and say if we are struggling and not treated right, and when we came together as one it will result to a revolution. An example of this is the EDSA People Power that returned the democracy and ousted the authority at the highest position. Jose Rizal also inspired us that we should not be frightened of the people around us if the return is peace, comfort, and freedom. My sixth reason would be "To be reminded of the past and learn from the mistakes of it". The life and works of Jose Rizal reminds us the learnings and mistakes of the past that should not be done in the present and the future. As of now I think this reason is very timely and relevant because of the incoming elections. The number one problem that we Filipinos always commit is that we never learn. Some people are voting because they are true to their idols but are not true to their principles. From researching the platforms and accomplishments of the candidates from actual facts to voting them isn't that hard. I think it is unfair for other heroes. For me Rizal isn't the greatest Filipino hero. There are many Filipino heroes that are not getting the same treatment that Rizal is getting. I mean sure there are some that we celebrated during their holidays. If Rizal was an American-sponsored hero, then I think it is time to research and chose who is or who are to be considered a national hero/heroes. For example in the film Heneral Luna and Goyo, whether the story of it is fictional or not, others seem to be showing the fact the first president of the Philippines should be Andres Bonifacio and not Emilio Aguinaldo. FOJAS- A07 1. So the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation. With the given five reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal stated in the lecture, the last reason mentioned is for the the most important of them all, so the nationalism will live on. Being knowledgable with the history and events that happened in the past will help me to fully understand and appreciate the things I have and experience today. Aside from that, I also have something to tell to my future children for them to be educated and pass the sense of nationalism to develop the love for the Philippines contributing to a generation that will continue to live and prove what Dr. Jose Rizal said, "Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan." 2. To appreciate his dedication for the country and give importance to his works while also learning from them. It is indeed wonderful how Dr. Jose Rizal bravely written all his works despite knowing the powerful people that he might hurt or offend. Although he didn't intend to create or start a revolution, his works awaken the hidden nationalism and braveness of the Filipinos at that time that contributed to the Filipinos experiencing freedom today. Therefore, is it just right to show and give importance to his works as they also teaches the readers a lot that they can also use and apply with their everyday lives. Personally, seeing his dedication and learning about his works motivates me that I can also do and support things that will be beneficial for the country despite how small it is. 3. Dr. Jose Rizal is the greatest hero I do not think that it is unfair even after knowing that those people who chose Rizal as the national hero had their own agenda because I firmly believe that he, Dr. Jose Rizal, is the greatest hero. He would not be called as the Philippines' national hero up to this day i the professionals and highly educated individuals didn't agree too. Aside from that, he indeed made a great impact and contribution as to why us, the Filipinos is experiencing freedom today as he bravely fight and written novels that motivates his fellow Filipinos to fight and claim what is truly ours. That being the case, I firmly believe and stand with the statement that Dr. Jose Rizal deserves the title: the greatest Filipino hero and our national hero. 4. Yes, I watched and finished the video lecture.

(Albarillo, B43) In my opinion, Jose Rizal deserves the title as the national hero of the Philippines. Upon watching the lecture, I realized that he contributed more than just the works, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. He was the one who basically invented the mindset that Filipinos are one nation, and we are the legitimate insulares as we are the people who first born and lived in the Island. It gave the Filipinos an idea that we are not indios and we have more rights than the Spaniards in our own land. Subsequently, the novels he wrote did not just captivate the hearts of the Filipinos but sparks revolution against the colonizers; it was truly an eye opener and the root of fights of other heroes that basically sets us free. Even today, we get to enjoy the freedom in our own country because of him. He played a vital role in the Philippine history and the reality shift he has done for our motherland. For me, the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is so the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation. It is important to continuously teach this certain part of history because this is the reason why we are called Filipino and why we should be proud of being one. From what I have learned in the lecture, this spirit of nationalism could strengthen our love for the country and our pride. In addition, in passing on these teachings it could build a generation that loves their nation. He is a role model for Filipinos. I think I would like to add more of his personal life by talking about how he was as a person. How he used his intelligence for the sake of his countrymen and their freedom. We all knew that Rizal inspires the revolution, and he is the father of Filipino Nation, but who he truly was matters the most. Because through learning how he came up with his life decisions and how kind he was to his fellow Filipinos, our generation could learn more about contributing not just our knowledge but also our sympathy for others. I think this is what most of us forget the most. Corrupt officials, violence against low class people, and discrimination of others are pretty much prevalent in our nation today. We must never forget that Rizal became the national hero not just because of his mind but also because of his heart. Rizal played a huge part in our history. He was the root of all revolutions against the colonizers. Not just against Spaniards but also against Americans and Japanese. He did not just inspire the people to revolt but also conditioned their mind into thinking that we are one nation, and we have our own identity. Because of him, we called ourselves now as Filipinos. For me, he is the greatest Filipino hero because he proved the saying that "knowledge is power". From what I have learned, Rizal never intended to revolt violently against Spaniards. He just simply wants to share everything he knew outside the box. Because of this certain knowledge that was new for his countrymen, they had the confidence to voice out their rights and to fight for their country. Who could've thought that after hundreds of years, we could still redeem our own identity? Only Rizal did as much as that. To be honest, I do not fully see the impact of Jose Rizal in today's generation because a lot of us do not take history seriously. Maybe the life and works of Rizal is a mandatory course for all programs. However, not all of us can see how important this is. Some students say that this is just a minor subject, why bother taking it to the heart? That's why a lot of youth in this generation only know him as our national hero but would not bother to know why he was titled as such. As I've said from the previous number (3), there are still Filipinos who take advantage of their power against the voiceless or illiterate. Instead of helping them to become better, they become the reason why they suffer more. What did they truly learn from Rizal? Rizal did not die for nothing, and our generation should prove that. Yes.

1.) The debate on who should be The Philippines’ national hero has been a long-running debate amongst Filipinos. Patriotism is such an abstract idea which no one can truly measure; so the ideal hero of everyone is heavily affected by personal judgement and taste. American-sponsored or not, I personally don't think that having Rizal as our national hero is an unfair move to many of our heroes. Being a pacifist in an oppressive regime is a very praise worthy feat. Fighting a losing battle through pen, paper, and words rather than inciting violence is such an inspiration. Being this inspiring figure, many have sought his writings as an inspiration to fight the reigning of the Spaniards in the country. El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere are regarded as literary works that show the injustices and maltreatment of Spanish people to Filipinos. This would help spark a fire to the hearts of many Filipinos to start fighting for what’s rightfully theirs. 2.) I personally think that Rizal being the Father Figure of the Filipino Nation is the most important amongst the reasons mentioned in the video. A country who has been under an oppressive regime for the last 300 years would probably have an identity problem. A nation who has lost its identity is as good as a failed nation. According to the video lecture, Rizal called the natives of the country “Filipinos” for the first time. For the first time in a long time, the natives of the country would have an identity to rally behind with. There are a lot of reasons why having an identity is important for a nation but I personally think that having an identity would spark a drive in the hearts of Filipinos to rebel against their oppressors. The identity that Rizal gave to the natives became a beacon for everyone to be united against the Spaniards. 3.) If I were to add another reason to why Filipinos should study the Life and Works of Rizal, this would be Rizal’s acts of heroism and rise to prominence is not the most conventional way of being a hero. When we think of heroes, we usually think of people who fought in wars through violent measures like Bonifacio, Macarthur, Sakay, etc.. Pen and paper has always been a method of fighting throughout history but it is always accompanied by a warrior who has been inspired through the works of an author. This is the same with Rizal and Bonifacio. Bonifacio, the Katipunans, and the revolution they had are evidence of Rizal’s excellence in inspiring the nation to stand up. I personally think that without Bonifacio and the Katipunan, Rizal wouldn’t be as famous as he is right now. Bonifacio and the revolution he did helped Rizal’s reputation reach a much higher status than what Rizal could have done alone. 4.) The determination of the "greatest" Filipino hero is a matter of personal interpretation and can vary from person to person. I personally think that he is the greatest hero as he is one of the most influential figures during the Spanish regime. He sparked revolutions through the use of pen and words. His literary works inspired many Filipinos to stand up against the oppressive rule of the Spaniards for the past 300 years. He was also one of the reasons why Filipinos are called “Filipinos” in this country. He gave the natives of this country an identity to unite and fight for. Jose Rizal being a symbol of heroism in the country could be an inspiration for the future generations. Many could follow his acts of heroism by exposing social injustices through the use of literary work or learn from his written works and be inspired to stand up against the maltreatment Filipinos face in this time and age. 5.) Although the structure of the society nowadays is very different from Rizal’s time, the same social injustices and maltreatments Filipinos encounter are still visible. El Filibusterismo and Noli me Tangere as a requirement for Filipinos to study could help in solving the existing problems the country suffers. It is hard to say if Filipinos still have the same sense of patriotism as people from Rizal’s time but the greatest impact Rizal gave us is the sense of fighting for our freedom. In a time where oppression in the form of the government’s control is a commonplace, people yearn to be heard and be freed from the maltreatment the government shows. Many communities in the country are under fire, like the Lumads, where their rights are being negligible and mouths being silenced. Rizal’s impact may be big or small but through his works many Filipinos are being inspired to do what’s better for their country. 6.) Yes Macario B43

• Personally, I think the 5th reason which is so the spirit of nationalism will live on and continue in the next generation is the most important why we should study the life and work of Dr. Jose Rizal. In a country, patriotism is one thing that’s important for the citizens of a country to have, but knowing the history of their land and knowing who started and gave the country a name and the pride it has is what’s make all the difference. Being able to explain and teach someone what the country was and is now and how it came to be is what makes history live on. Remembering the monumental events and teaching it to our children so the next generation can continue to tell the tale is the reason our generation today know what our history is. This is why I think the 5th reason is what serves the most importance in terms of why we should study the life of Rizal. • If I were to add a factor, I’d recommend that we should practice the ways of how Rizal wrote. His form and his style of literature was always intriguing to me… how he writes, describes, and how we feel the emotion of his words through paper when we read them towards the efforts of our own race fighting and dying for the freedom we have today. Being able to write like this would be beneficial for us to teach the next generation on how everything happened. If we can write like Rizal and explain how a pandemic once again made Filipinos work together or how Manny Pacquiao represented the country internationally, and how even not one of the strongest typhoons can break our spirit, then I feel like the next generation can be prouder of what we are and why they should fight and nurture the culture we have. So, for me being able to copy the style of Rizal’s writing can prove to be beneficial for us and why we should consider to add it. • Personally, Rizal is where he should be. It wasn’t unfair that other heroes weren’t placed on the top because sometimes war isn’t always the answer to achieve peace. Jose Rizal’s way of showing democracy and patriotism to the country he defended and so loved was with his knowledge. He wrote novels like Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo to open the eyes of the Filipino citizens on how we were being treated. Other Filipino heroes were always ready cause all they needed to fight back was a gun and a sword attached to their waists. But Rizal, he fought with a pen, and that pen is what shaped the country we live in today. So, for me it’s not even in the slightest on unfairness that Dr. Jose Rizal is considered the greatest Filipino hero because he should be recognized not only by us, but by his enemies and what once used to be our allies as well. And yes, I do believe Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. * Yes. Maniago (A01)

1. I personally think that the most important reason as to why we need to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, is so that the spirit of our nationalism will continue to live and for us to be able to share it with our future generations. This particular reason basically tackles how he is dedicated to fight for his country, and how he influenced the revolution that led us to the independence that we now have. As he contributed largely to our freedom and independence, I think the least that we could do to honor his legacy is to keep the spirit of nationalism live on for our future generations to see. 2. If I were to add another reason as to why we should study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, I think it should that to inspire. I think the though of just being inspired in every aspect of what Rizal did is enough reason to study his life and works. Despite all of the hardships that he encountered during his lifetime, he still chose to not give up and wrote all of those influential masterpieces that depicts the horrors of the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines. I think that Rizal’s Story is both influential and inspirational to us new generation of Filipinos. 3. I do think that it is unfair, in the sense that the people that chose him to be the national hero has other motive in mind, and not just because he greatly contributed to the freedom and independence of our nation, without even inducing violence, and just by using his knowledge and intellect in expressing his thoughts and experiences to the Filipino people at his time. Other that that particular reason, I do think that Rizal was well deserving to be called as our national hero. As for the heroes of our nations, like Emilio Aguinaldo, and the like, I think that that they are not less of a hero than Rizal, because, if not for their heroic act for our we wouldn’t have the freedom, democracy and independence that our nation currently has. 4. 1) Each and every hero has their own contributions and ways that affected how they fought for our freedom, but I think it was only fair for the other heroes that Rizal was chosen because he made tremendous impacts that made changes in our country for the better. Rizal made novels that continue to inspire not only the youth but almost all people through his works until this day. He let his words from his works and novels speak the truth and the justice that we deserve. His ways and beliefs only show that we can achieve freedom not only by fighting that could harm others. He fought for the freedom of our country in a way that will bring no harm to others, may it be our fellow Filipino or other colonizing countries. That is what separates Rizal from the other heroes that fought for the freedom of our country. 2) Among the five reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal, the most important for me is that "He inspired the Revolution that set us free". It is essential that we know our roots and our history, and Rizal made impacts that would make our nation what it is today. It is important to know how we fought for our freedom. The way Rizal did it not only inspired his generation to learn from his ways that led to our freedom but also future generations. The way he did it is through peace. War is not the solution to everything. Through his novels, it motivated us to work for our freedom and our rights. This reason not only will also encourage us to have more pride in being Filipino but also the nationalism and love for our country will continue for future generations to come. 3) If I will going to add one more reason why we need to study his life and works, it would be for the reason that we need to appreciate the things that Rizal did in order for us to be in this situation now. We fought for our freedom, we united as one country, and battled the opposing forces. The lessons that we can get from the time of Rizal, are the love for our country, being united as one, fighting as one country. If we truly love our country, there is no barrier or wall that could stop us from protecting it and fighting for our beloved country. As a country, we should always be united as one. If there are misunderstandings or concerns, they must be voiced out through talking, opinions, and peace. It should not be through fighting. We must learn to admire the things they have done for us and learn from them. 4) I do believe that Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero for the reason how he fought for the freedom of our country. The way he fought did not require any weapon that would allow him to hurt others, he did it through pen and paper. He expressed his feelings with words through his novels and works. He expressed his opinions and his rights in a peaceful manner. This is an example of how a true hero must be. A hero is someone that knows what is right and wrong, that would not let others do something that would be unfair, and who would voice his opinion because that is his right. The values and beliefs that he has are what we, the future generations of our country must have in order for our future to continue to strive for the better. For me, I do believe that Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero, he fought for the freedom of our country, and he died for our country. 5) In all honesty, I see the impact of Rizal's life on our generation. In our society today, we now voice out our opinions, especially now that we have different social media platforms. We have now the freedom or the right to speak our own thoughts or ideas. Even though sometimes our own opinion gets a little overboard or too much that our words are now used to hurt someone. As we continue to study our history not only Rizal's life, we continue to learn things about what made our country as it is today. The impact of Rizal's life through his novels and works that now has a television adaptation that continues to reach new audiences on his morals to educate the generation now and the future generations to come. Even though almost all impacts are positive, there are those impacts that make up for the negative things that happened not only during the time of Rizal but also the negative impacts of other times in our history that make it our time today. 6) Yes (CAGAMPANG, B43)

1. Jose Rizal became the national hero through him making a good example as using his words rather than weapons prove and making him as the national hero, he is also the one who advocate in the Spanish colonial government when writing his works the "Noli me Tangere" and "El FIlibusterismo" that exposed the social issues and abuses of the Spanish regime, making the Filipino people have conscious on what's happening in their life. We can't say that it is unfair to the other heroes that Jose Rizal is the greatest of them all, but Rizal contribution and sacrifices does a huge impact for the other heroes to move against the Spaniards, they may have used different methods to drove away the Spaniards but Rizal did the most non violent way. 2. The most important reason on why we have to study RIzals life and works is the Spirit of nationalism that will be passed on to the other upcoming generation to know the truth on what happens in the past that leads us to the present freedom that we have and know the mistakes of our old ancestors and learn from them, and have always remember that we reminded ourselves that we are one in this nation whether where we came from, also the four other reasons are based on this reason on why we are learning his life the sense 3. If I were will add a reasons on why we study RIzal it will be to know the truth of the history since the older we get some of the story about RIzal will change a bit somehow, as the person who know the truth we can determine the wrong and tell the right story to avoid them to get confused on what is really happen on his life, since having confused about his story will affect their nationalism and get misinformed on what happen that leads us on what we have right now. We can teach them the right information and avoid those who write nor teach to the upcoming generation. 4. I do believe that RIzal is the greatest Filipino hero, since he inspired the others during the Spanish Era without the thought of using extreme approach such as fighting or using a weapons against them, they moved the Filipino to unite against the Spaniards to retake our beloved home against them, Rizal prove himself in his stories that he is the greatest hero, waking the FIlipino's to just not considered themselves as The Insulares but called themselves a Filipino making themselves to unite as one against the Spaniards. Rizal even died and shotted but he have no regrets inspiring the FIlipino to drove away the Spaniards and gave the freedom we have now 5. In my current generation I do see people get the impact of Rizals life, the freedom that each and everyone must have that Rizal fought over the years are seen also in our current generation it is seen example, the West Philippine Sea where we fight the freedom of that island is ours. We have the freedom to do everything we want as long as no one gets trampled on, Rizals life lives on the heart of each of everyone on every act their made. The FIlipinos are still inspired by Rizal and will always on. 6. Yes MANGUI B43

If I were to choose the most important reason to study the life and works of Jose Rizal, I think it would be because he inspired the revolution that set us free from the Spaniards. What he did made a big impact to the Filipinos at that time. With him and his works like Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo it contribute to the liberty of Filipinos at June 12 1898 and also because of his works there will be no inspiration for Andres Bonifacio to be inspired to plan about revolution. We cannot deny that he made a priceless contribution to the country that makes him a hero. One of the reason I want to add on why do we need to study the works and life of Jose Rizal is for the Youth to have a greater appreciation and comprehension of everything Rizal fought and died for which a lot of the them in this generation couldn’t probably understand. A lot of Youth doesn’t appreciate and understand the history mainly because of the detachment and the lack of prospect. If they feel the urge to learn about these things they would appreciate it and understand the purpose of history, why it’s there and why do we need to study it. Though Rizal unquestionably did a major contribution to the Liberty of the Philippines I think it would be unfair to say the least that he is the greatest Filipino hero of all. I believe that those unknown people who also fought and sacrifice their life for the country is just as worthy as Jose Rizal to be called as the Greatest hero since all of them has a good desire and goal for the country of Philippines. This Filipinos who fought for our freedom during the time of Spaniards should not be forgotten without them there would be no us. Yes Acuyong (A06)

1. I believe that the most important reason for the study of the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal is the fact that his writings has been the catalyst for a national revolution. Best known as our national hero, and the author of Noli Me Tangere (in other words, Touch-Me-Not) and El Filibusterismo (translated as, The Subversion), his words were not intentionally meant to start a revolution, but by his courage and wit to go against the Spaniards by revealing their manipulation of our people, he was able to open the Filipino's eyes to the truth that we are better off finding independence. His novels were so potent that upon reading them, Andres Bonifacio was inspired to lead a revolution. 2. Another reason I might add as to why it is important to study his works is to gain inspiration from him. More than nationalism, there is the essence of impact when we study Jose Rizal. The impact of one man and how he can change the world is prevalent among the young, but is lost as we age and become more in tune with our own realities. Jose Rizal however, is a living testament of how one man can change a whole nation. Hence, by studying him, we can have a glimpse of how he has achieved, how he planned, and how he lived. The next person who could shape a nation could be one of us, and learning from Jose Rizal might just help that happen. 3. I do not think that it is unfair to the other heroes that Dr. Jose Rizal was chosen as our national hero. We have a number of notable people such as Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Emilio Jacinto, and Apolinario Mabini. All of them have contributed to the Philippine Revolution, and was able to command, lead, and facilitate. A leader could inspire his army, but Dr. Jose Rizal was able to inspire even the common folk. In this way, I believe that he was able to reach out to more people compared to our other heroes. Another factor was that most of our heroes have contributed in terms of action, while Dr. Jose Rizal has reached us not with guns and knives, but with pen and paper - A much dignified way to change a nation. 4. ANQUILLANO, B43 1. Rizal being a hero is not comparable to others itself. So, I think it is not unfair to other heroes. Though all of them sacrificed their own lives for their people, I think the amount of sacrifice that Rizal had was not same to the others. For me, it is just right to declare Jose Rizal as the national hero because he was the reason, we became united that is why he got the nickname “Father of the Filipino nation”, and that itself is such a brave move because he defied the Spaniard thinking that we are divided. Also, he devoted his life studying and writing against the Spaniards which gave inspiration for all Filipinos to stand up and free our people. As said in the lecture, he sparked the Filipino revolution, and we can clearly see that the heroes after him only did that because of the realization Dr. Jose Rizal made. So, for me it is not unfair for other heroes because we all looked up on Dr. Jose Rizal. 2. Among the five reasons, the most important reason for me is the “The spirit of nationalism will live on and in us and in the next generation”. I think this is the main reason why we study the life and works of Rizal. It is important for me because studying this course will touch the hearts of the generations of the Filipinos whether they are old or young. It would inspire the Filipinos to love their country as much as Dr. Jose Rizal did. Also, It is also important for me because it will inspire the Filipinos to unite in times of struggles and remove all differences among them because just like what Dr. Jose Rizal implied, we are all Filipinos with brown skin. Another thing why it is important, studying life and works of Rizal will develop the sense of nationalism in our hearts which we will pass to our children and grandchildren so that the spirit of being a Filipino will live long and strong. 3. I will add this reason “To pay respect for our national hero and to spark resiliency on young and incoming generation of Filipinos’ hearts” in the five reason. First, studying life and works of Rizal is an act of giving respect to his sacrifice, courage and brilliant mind that united the regions of natives and called themselves Filipinos. We should give him a big respect for that because without him stepping up, there is no freedom that we are enjoying now. It is also to show respect to him for inspiring fellow Filipinos to act on their own and revolt against the oppressors that divided and exploited our people. Second reason, studying life and works of Rizal will spark the Filipino resiliency in the hearts of the youth where in times of struggle, they will face the odds. The resiliency of Filipinos will live on the hearts of incoming generations as they look up to Dr. Jose Rizal thinking that being united will help us survive challenges because we are Filipinos. 4. Yes, I believe that Dr. Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino Hero. I believe he is because he also believed in us the Filipinos. He believed that the Filipinos deserved the freedom that we have right now. In connection to that, Dr. Jose Rizal used his intellectual skills to demand reforms and speak against the Spaniards. He also cared for the Filipinos by uniting us as one nation and letting us see our true identity. I also believe that he is the greatest Filipino hero because he did not choose war to disagree to Spaniards. He fought with his pen and brain against the oppressors and not with a sword and spear. In addition, he is the greatest for the fact that he has many accomplishments that made him famous globally. He was admired by many people that is why I believe that he is the greatest Filipino Hero because he is the “Great Malayan”. 5. I do see the impact of Dr. Jose Rizal’s life in our generation in different aspects. For me, it impacted the thinking of today’s generation regarding their education. They believe that education can help their lives and country to develop because of the expression that Dr. Jose Rizal left which is the “Kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan”. Some of us in our generation really take our education seriously. Another impact in our generation is the use of freedom of speech and giving attention on social issues. Our generation speaks up for others who cannot. Also, we tend to demand for reforms on certain things that we believe is not helpful and just take advantage on us like what Dr. Jose Rizal did. Today’s generation also steps up to solve the problem of our country even though we lack resources and capabilities, but the willingness to help in other people's struggles is what matters. So, for me, it really impacted the unity of our generation as one nation. 6. Yes

1. In my own opinion, I believe that it was not unfair for the other heroes that those who chose Rizal had their own agenda in making him the greatest of them all because Rizal's ideas of peaceful reform, love for the country, and promotion of education resonated with many Filipinos seeking for change. We all know that Jose Rizal plays a vital role in the Philippine independence and his writings, particularly his novels "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo", exposed the injustices and abuses under Spanish rule and inspired nationalist sentiments contributed to his recognition as a national hero. So, in conclusion, it was not unfair. 2. After watching the video lecture, among the five reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal, I think the most important is he inspired the revolution that set us free because his writings and actions ignited a sense of love for the country among Filipinos, instilling in them a desire for freedom, justice, and equality. Although he didn't intend to start a revolution, his novels gave strength to Andres Bonifacio to make a plan and fight for our rights. By studying his life, we can understand the power of ideas, the importance of fighting for one's rights, and the significance of national identity. 3. If I am going to add one more reason why we need to study his life and works, it would be his contribution in promoting education and intellectual development. Rizal being an educated person, he emphasized the value of education and on what it can do to our lives. Studying Rizal's life can be an inspiration to all of us, in which it could transform an individual change. His life and works can make a huge impact in an individual by having realization in life. 4. I believe that Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. Rizal's contributions, through his writings and peaceful activism, played a crucial role in awakening national consciousness and inspiring the Philippine independence movement. He made significant sacrifices and contributions to the struggle for independence. It is essential to recognize and honor the collective efforts of Rizal who fought for Philippine freedom. 5. In all honesty, I see the impact of Rizal's life in my generation, and it is seen in various ways. Rizal's ideas of nationalism, social justice, and the power of education continue to resonate with many Filipinos today. His emphasis on critical thinking, love of country, and respect for diverse cultures and perspectives remains relevant. Rizal's life serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up for one's beliefs, promoting positive change, and striving for a just and inclusive society. 6. Yes -DE GUIA, B72

1. Many Filipino heroes shared bravery and courage to revolutionize our country against the colonizers during the early period of time. Each of them shared a significant contribution and different approach on how to awaken the consciousness of every Filipino’s before to establish the peace in our country. Jose Rizal is one of the major contributors of it even though he does not fight the colonizers with swords and guns, he fought them with his ideas and writings advocating reforms to the situation before. It was not unfair for the other heroes because Rizal has many involvements in the making of who the natives of our country is, he established the name “Filipino” and was even called the “The father of the Filipino nation”. With his profound help in the history of the Philippines, I personally think he deserves all the praise and to be called the National Hero of the Philippines. But sadly, not all of the heroes that fought for our country are given enough recognition for the things they did for the sake of the freedom in our country. 2. After watching the video lecture on why we study Rizal, I personally think that the 2nd which is “Rizal is the father of the Filipino Nation. I think that many Filipino heroes helped on setting us free by having a revolution, but by Rizal having the entity of who we really are is a big contribution to the country. It is stated in the video that Filipinos back in the time look at each other as states/kingdoms and not as one citizens of our country. It is not also believed by the natives that we are one country but thanks to Dr. Jose Rizal our country became one and the Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao even though it has unique sets of traditions and beliefs it was united and established the idea that we are one nation and country. Due to Rizal’s “Indolence of the Filipinos” and “La Liga Filipina” he changed and made a cue where Filipinos stand with him. With that, he became the Father of the Filipino nation. 3. If I am to add up on why we need to study Rizal’s life and works in schools I think of the reason is he fought using his mind and not with his physical power. Jose Rizal expressed his will to set the country free by writing poems and novels. Jose Rizal was truly a one-of-a-kind hero back in the day, his intelligence paved the way on the freedom and awareness of the Filipinos before. Today, the Filipinos are united as one and thanks to Rizal. The Life’s and works of Jose Rizal are now acknowledged across the country especially in my hometown Calamba where Rizal was also a citizen. His works novels, poetry, and essay will be remembered by generations to come, It is good that we have this kind of subject which continues the spirit of nationalism. The rich past or history of the Philippines should always be remembered since it was once the situation of our homeland which made our present generation today. 4. As I’ve what I said in the 1st question, there are numerous Filipino heroes who made a significant contribution in the revolution of the Colonization period era. But Rizal is one of the heroes who greatly contributed to it. Some notable names are Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Apolinario Mabini, Marcel H. Del Pilar, Juan Luna, Sultan Kudarat, Melchora Aquino, and Gabriela Silang. I think that the question is solely personal preference, But for me Rizal is indeed the best Hero among them. His patriotism sparked the revolution which led the freedom. With Rizal’s massive accomplishments, He is a good example of a hero and in addition he is also an American-sponsored hero because the Americans wanted a pacifist hero who also holds values and nationalistic figure. This subject also shows how Important Jose Rizal is in our history. Rizal is a great hero that we can look up to, it shows us that being different from others is not usually a bad thing. 5. From my honest opinion, it is 50/50. Rizal’s and other heroes in our history are being studied to shape us to be a nationalistic and brilliant individual, also it is reminding us that they once fought died and did historical movements to make our country free from the colonizers. But sadly, in our generation, especially the younger ones they are more focused on the trending topics of today and I don’t think if they know Rizal and the other heroes that once defended our nation from colonizers. Thankfully there are subjects in JHS and College where Rizal and the other heroes are being studied, it commemorates the heroic things they did. Jose Rizal’s impact before is a lot different from the impact that it is making today. But we should value the things that happened in the past because it shaped us of who we are now, the rich history of the past should always be remembered. 6. Yes Balagtas - B43

1. I think it is not unfair that the Americans chose Dr. Jose Rizal as the greatest among the other heroes. In my own perspective, it is not just about him being a pacifist, it is about his passionate heart and love for his own country. He influenced us Filipinos that we should be one nation and one country. Also, he fought and fueled the revolution using his pen by writing these two novels "El Filibusterismo" and "Noli Me Tangere" that inspired many Filipinos to be more independent, although, Andres Bonifacio was the one who led it. I believe that if we deeply think about it, he did not fight with violence or any weapons, instead, he used his goodness, his love, and a peaceful fight for his country. To conclude, all of our heroes showed bravery for our country but for me it is not unfair that Rizal is our national hero because after how many decades up to present, we are still amazed for what he did. 2. After watching the video lecture on why we need to study the life and works of Rizal, I think the most important reason is the last reason mentioned which is the "the spirit of Nationalism will live on us". Rizal’s history was really interesting and inspirational due to his efforts, life, sacrifices and all of his hardship as the Father of the Filipino Nation. By studying the history of him, we will be able to love our country more and I believe that the spirit of nationalism of being a Filipino will live and continue to pass on to the next generations. The more we explore his works and life, our characteristics as a Filipino, the more we recognize the true significance of our country being a one nation. With this, we can build, strengthen, and comprehend the spirit of love, values, and nationalism of being a proud Filipino. 3. Another reason why we should study Rizal's life and works is that all of them are timely and relevant. As was mentioned in reason number 3, he inspired the revolution that set us free. It serves as a continual reminder to us to defend our rights at any costs. That we should take lessons from our history, the hardships that our ancestors experienced, and the sacrifices that our heroes made in order to keep our nation free from invaders. Dr. Jose Rizal believed that during the revolution, it is better to fight with a peaceful manner than fighting with weapons or anything that could cause harm to the invaders, he said that “The pen is mightier than the sword”. I believe that until today or this present time, his two novels “El Filibusterismo” and “Noli Me Tangere” are still alive in our hearts and minds. He will always be adored. 4. As we all know, we have a lot of hero in our history. Two examples are Hen. Antonio Luna and Hen. Goyo who also fought for the freedom of the Philippines. In my own perspective, there is no greatest hero in my opinion. Rizal may be the father of all heroes, but there is no way to ignore that he could not have accomplished it on his own. He gave the other heroes the motivation they needed to act and do something to help. He is one of the greatest; as a result of this, we are not prisoners of our own nation. Although he is not alive anymore, he is still an inspiration to us, especially, to the youth who will be more educated if we study his works. Dr. Jose Rizal demonstrates bravery of every Filipino. His legacy inspires young people to stand out for what is right and to value and respect their country through the study of his life and writings. 5. Understanding our roots and the causes for which we struggle as Filipinos is made easier by Rizal's influence on the current generation. We would not have this independence if he had not done what he did. His legacy inspires young people to stand out for what is right and to value and respect their country through the study of his life and writings. We learned the importance of unity and solidarity as Filipinos. Because of what Dr. Jose Rizal said, "Ang kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan," young people today are motivated to follow in his footsteps and fight for justice and equality for all in the Philippines. We will not squander his efforts to liberate our country from foreign invaders simply because he has believed in us and never loses hope. The more we learn about his efforts and life, as well as our own traits as Filipinos, the more we realize the true significance of our country. We may use this to create, strengthen, and comprehend the spirit of love, values, and nationalism that is inherent in being a proud Filipino. 6. YES Mostizo , A18

1. One of the important reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal so that our nationalism will live on in our country. The reason for picking this out of the five choices that were given is because of the current generation and the use of social media. I have noticed these days when people are heavily exposed to social media, they tend to show more interest in the history of people from other countries rather than our own. This makes our history being slowly forgotten by the Filipinos thus losing our pride of being Filipinos. 2. Another reason we should learn about Jose Rizal’s life and his works is that we could learn more about Rizal’s ideals about society in the past which would be connected to the present time. Rizal originally wrote for the sake of his fallen compatriots and these writings were read by Andres Bonifacio. The writings of Rizal inspired Bonifacio to start the Revolution against the Spaniards for our freedom. In connection with the past to the present, we continue to fight for our rights as being Filipinos towards the ill-natured people or even Filipinos, our countrymen with bad intentions towards our country. 3. Rizal is known for being the greatest Filipino in numerous history books around the world as he also has monuments of himself in different countries in world not just the Philippines. His writings were also the reason our country fought for their freedom against the Spaniards leading to his death in Bagumbayan or Rizal Park which became the most well-known part of our history which can be visited up until the present time. I believe that Rizal is one of many great heroes who fought for our country and died for our country. 4. Yes. Gamilo (A07)

Barbastro (A01) 1.) I think the most important reason in studying the life of Jose Rizal is the third reason which states that he inspired the revolution that set us free. I believe that without Jose Rizal’s works, the Filipinos during his time will take longer to fight against the conquerors of our land. Not only that his writings promoted the idea of freedom and independence, but it also sparked the Filipino pride and love for the nation. Jose Rizal taught them to not be afraid failing at least you’ve followed your heart and the love for the nation of these Filipino people lives in them and continues to prosper. 2.) Honestly, the five reasons stated the generalization of the reasons why we need to study Rizal’s life and works. But if ever I would add one, that will be a tribute as to how his life and works shaped the Filipino character. Without Jose Rizal, the Filipino people would have still had an identity crisis from then up to now. Even if the generations have changed already, people are still thinking of instilling the bravery and smartness of Rizal. Jose Rizal helped build the Filipino character and set fire to the fighting spirit of Filipinos in times of unpleasant encounters. 3.) In the Philippine history, a lot of heroes readily sacrificed themselves for the sake of the nation. It was a very common way of them to fight against the enemies with violence and war. And Jose Rizal, on the other hand, used his intellect and works to speak to the people about his intentions and plans on the reforms. I admired Jose Rizal because of this for I believe that before hurting each other, communicating first, and settling down to talk about both sides of the story might be more helpful to ease the tension. Like Ukraine and Russia, they have come to a peace talk after the war set by both parties. Therefore, I still believe that Rizal was a remarkable and greatest Filipino hero. 4.) Yes.

1. For me the most important reason on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is, Rizal is the father of the Filipino Nation, because he made all our fellow natives realized that we are all Filipino and we are entitled in our homeland. When the Spaniards conquer our country hundreds of years ago, they never told us that we belong to a single country and also, they once called us Indio which means stupid or barbaric. Rizal started to changed things, he fought that the term Filipino should be applied on the natives and only on the brown-skinned people of the islands. 2. 'To expand our knowledge in his greatest contributions'. We know that Jose Rizal is our national hero and he is one of the most important person in Philippine history. He had a lot of contributions not just in our country but all around the world. One of these is he was the reason why the revolution has ended and set us free from the Spaniards. It is said that his famous novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo influenced to have independence in our country. Maybe he was not physically part of the revolution but he used his excellent writing to fight the Spaniards. 3. I think that it is not unfair for the other heroes because we all have our own way of fighting and Rizal chose not to use violence, instead he used his skill in writing to prove to the opponent that we can fight not just with swords and guns but also with a powerful novel that can change the course of events and the minds of fellow Filipinos. For me, Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because although he didn't intend to start a war with his novels, but it became the spark of it and our fellow people awakens with this event and fought for our freedom. 4. Alpino (A06) 1. As for me the most important reasons amongst the five that was given is, the fact that he gave us a name to live on forever. It was mentioned in the video that even fellow Filipinos long time ago never saw each other as the same blood. All Barangays was divided and against each other, that was sad to hear though. Despite all those events in the past. Dr. Jose Rizal found a way to put into his own country’s people mind that we are one and we must have an identity and to not let the Spaniards belittle them. Without his knowledge of that we might be still a foreigner to our own country. 2. If I were to add a reason on Dr. Jose Rizal life and works is needed to be studied. It’s his impact and his famous words of wisdom which is “Nasa kabataan ang pagaasa ng bayan”. Which means the “Youths are the hope of this country”. Because until now that is being practice a lot. And as we can see all youths are being trained for the future of the Philippines. His quote gave pressure to parents and leaders of the country to focus on the youth to have a better tomorrow. That is why I’d add that to reasons that was given. 3. In my opinion, Yes Dr. Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. It is because not only the native people pointed him to be a hero, even the foreigners suggested to convince the leaders to honor what he did. Its not easy to change people’s mindset. I think it’s not unfair. 4. Yes, I did watch the whole video.

1.) In my opinion, the most significant reason in the big five reasons that stated in the lecture about the life and works of Jose Rizal is the fifth reason, which is the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and for the next generation. Furthermore, it is the reason why it is mandated by the government for the college curriculum in any program to maintain the nationalism of every Filipino and gives sufficient knowledge about the history of our country during the colonization of foreign countries. Moreover, it also helps to know who the Filipino people are, resulting in more patriots or nationalists to our beloved country that will continue to future generations. 2.) Additionally, another significant reason in the big five reasons that stated in the lecture about the life and works of Jose Rizal is the third reason, which is he inspired the revolution that set us free from the hands of Spaniards colonization. Moreover, the reason why I chose this is because of the brave action of Jose Rizal to create the literary works, and I think without his literary works, there is no awareness and realization for every Filipino to start a revolution, which can result that the Philippines will suffer for several years from the hands of foreign countries or the independence of our country will not happen. Besides, it also stated in the lecture that the literary works of Jose Rizal are created to honor the GomBurZa priests, including Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora. Further, the execution of the GomBurZa priests due to the false accusation of treason and sedition gives inspiration for Jose Rizal to create his literary works that lead to the propaganda movement of Filipino people for the foreign government. 3.) I think it is not unfair for the other heroes to choose Jose Rizal as the greatest true Filipino hero of our country, and even without choosing or selecting Jose Rizal will still be the most suitable for the greatest Filipino hero. Moreover, the literary works of Jose Rizal, including Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo, aim as enlightenment and realizations for the truth for the Filipino people to start a revolution because of that Jose Rizal was being imprisoned by Spanish colonizers. Further, Jose Rizal started another literary work called Mi último adios, which lead to the death of our national hero. Also, the message of Mi último adios for the Filipino people is to see how beautiful our country and Jose Rizal wants us to learn from the suffering experienced in the past and reveal the truth about how the world sees us, which lead to the independence of our country against the Spaniards colonizers. 4.) 1. The most important reason on why we should study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that he inspired the revolution that gave us freedom. Freedom that allows us to make our own decisions, be ourselves, and contribute to the society without restraints. Freedom that was taken away from our ancestors for centuries. We owe the joy of independence to our heroes who fought for our freedom and nation. Through the life and works of Jose Rizal, we can get an insight into the inspiration behind the revolution in the Philippines. Being knowledgeable of the inspiration behind the revolution could increase nationalism and patriotism. 2. An additional reason to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that it gives us the privilege to witness our history through the eyes and mind of Jose Rizal. Jose Rizal’s works contain the kindling that set fire to the revolution that gave us freedom. Experiencing our history through the eyes and mind of Jose Rizal is significant since it helps us understand the events of the past and potentially learn from them. Past knowledge provides us with information and options in order to avoid repeating historical mistakes. These mistakes could be easily repeated if we are not knowledgeable about them. 3. Giving the title of the greatest Filipino hero is unfair for every Filipino who fought during the revolution. The title of the greatest Filipino hero should not be considered. All of our heroes played a significant role in the success of the revolution. A revolution is only possible by the conglomeration of the bravery, nationalism, and patriotism of Filipino heroes. If a single Filipino failed to do their part during the revolution, the revolution could have crumbled and failed. With this, I do not believe that Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because there is no single greatest Filipino Hero. 4. Yes Torres (A01)

1. I think the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is so the spirit of nationalism will carry on in us and in the future generation because by studying Rizal's life, we will know that he was a very intelligent and respectable Filipino who gave his life for the freedom of our country. He was admired not just in the Philippines but in several parts of the world. His love and sacrifices for our country can be an inspiration for us to love our country more. We will be able to pass on Rizal's virtue to our children and grandchildren to be nationalistic if we have more knowledge about his works. 2. Another reason why we study the life and works of Jose Rizal is to have knowledge of how he inspired the revolution that set us free. Jose Rizal, as a writer, had written two books, namely, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. These books pertain to the abuses of the Spaniards during the Spanish regime. Although he did not intend to start a revolution with these novels but rather to demand equality in the treatment of Filipinos during those times, it became the spark for it. Andres Bonifacio read those novels and was moved by the writings to plan a revolution, which resulted in our independence from the Spaniards, which we Filipinos should be grateful for. 3. Jose Rizal being a pacifist was made a National Hero during the American regime. While it was true that they did it to their advantage so that the Filipinos during their time would not revolt against them. I do not think was unfair to the other heroes who fought for our freedom. They all contributed to our national freedom but I consider Jose Rizal as the greatest Filipino hero because he was able to fight in a peaceful way and not in a bloody revolution and besides his writings were the ones that initiated the revolt of Andres Bonifacio. 4. Truly that Jose Rizal is the Father of Filipino Race and Filipino Nation. Without Jose Rizal born in this country Philippines, we will be still an indio until now even forever. The Filipino race will never experience the independence and freedom against oppressors and babarism of the Spaniards. If Jose Rizal is alive but we disregard all of his works, still we will be slaves of colonialism. Let's be thankful that Dr. Jose Rizal is born and died to give us our national identity that we are not just have our regional race either Ilocano, Tagalog, Kapampangan, Ivatan, Bicolano, Ilonggo, Cebuano, Waray, Chavacano, Bisaya or Badjao. SALIBIADA (A07) 1. In the five reasons, the most important is the spirit of nationalism that will live on us and in the next generation. Because, there are people who have no knowledge about our national hero so that we can share with them what we know about Dr. Jose Rizal. 2. I would like to add another reason, that is to Re-dedicate the Filipino youth. If they only know a little background of his life and his work why not get a deeper understanding of all the battles of Dr. Jose Rizal. 3. It’s not unfair for the other heroes because, he chose non-violent government reform. Instead, he used what he wrote to open the eyes of the Filipinos. He was known for his kindness and calmness, but he never fought in war. Most heroes in the world have been promoted to heroic deeds but Rizal never did that. 1. The 2nd reason was the important reason for me to consider him as our national hero. Since the number one requirement to be called a hero is to unify the people in order to overcome the current problem. Rizal being able to make the Filipino people realize that they're all living in one country is that starting point of unification of the whole Filipino race. Without us realizing that we're in one country, we won’t be able to create a rebellion that is big enough to be considered as a threat to the Spaniards since there won’t be a coordination with the other parts of the country. 2. Considering the 5 reasons stated in the video, Rizal should become a role model for the all of us Filipinos, him being a national hero should be a worthwhile of being studied, and while studying him we may see that most of his actions of nationalism are capable of teaching us on how we should protect our own country in modern times, his ambition was to solve every problem through peaceful ways, and in modern times that is the way we should take since in this point of time we all know that war is never an option to consider. Also he is called as the "Pride of Malayan race", as a young generation, we must be aware and learn that fact by questioning why and how. 3. For me, it is not unfair since the whole revolution happened due to his writings. He inspired succeeding heroes to take action. Also, as stated from my 1st question's answer, the revolution will not be possible if it wasn't for him writing his works. It wasn't just an inspiration for the whole country, it was him calling out as well the tyranny that was present at the time, and he was fighting in his own ways. Yes the other Heroes died as well for the country but to be honest it is unfair to compare the heroes of the past to Rizal since they have their own other ways. 4. Yes. Ticzon (A01)

1. During the American colonial era, Jose Rizal was officially recognized as the national hero of the Philippines, and his nonviolent approach to social and political transformation played a role in this. It is also true that the political and social objectives of the Americans living in the Philippines at the time had an impact on the decision to honor Rizal as the country's national hero. It's crucial to remember, nevertheless, that Americans did not play a totally responsible role in making Rizal a national hero. Even before the Americans arrived in the Philippines, many Filipinos already regarded Rizal as a national hero. Among his fellow Filipinos, he had already gained a great deal of respect and appreciation for his writings and advocacy for social and political reform. Furthermore, the selection of Rizal as the national hero does not diminish the contributions and sacrifices of other Filipino heroes who fought for the country's independence and liberation. The Philippine government recognizes many other heroes and heroines who have made significant contributions to the nation's history and development. Therefore, I do not think it was unfair. 2. The "So the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation" is the one of the reason among the the five reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal that I believe is the most important. Because the other reasons are applicable here in this reason, such as we will have something to say to the foreigners then they will know that he is the father of the Filipino nation, that he inspired the revolution that set the Filipinos free, and lastly, it is mandated by law. We will also know what happened in the past such as the past mistakes created then it can help us to overcome it or come up with solutions if it ever happened to us right now, and how many Filipinos not just Jose Rizal fought and contributed for the country to be at its state today. Therefore, the nationalism will live on. 3. Jose Rizal acts as a cultural link between the Philippines and the rest of the globe, which is another reason why we should study him and his writings. Along with being a nationalist and a revolutionary, Rizal was also a man of the world who traveled widely and interacted with people from all cultures and linguistic groups. He was multilingual and knowledgeable about both European and Asian literature and culture. In his writings, Rizal was able to convey to a large audience the experience of the Filipino people and their fight for freedom. Also, he shared the culture of the Philippines with the globe, eradicating barriers between cultures and fostering mutual respect and compassion. The need for cultural bridges and intercultural understanding is becoming more and more critical in today's society as it gets more interconnected and globalized. The life and works of Rizal provide a priceless illustration of how intercultural dialogue and understanding can advance social and political transformation. Studying Rizal and his writings can foster greater intercultural understanding and help us appreciate the diversity and richness of Filipino culture. 4. He may not be the greatest person as from what I know, he have many girls back then but I believe that Jose Rizal is one of the greatest Filipino hero. He made all the natives of our archipelago realize that we are all Filipinos, that we are one nation even though we have different beliefs, dialects, and traditions. Because of this, it united the people of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao into one brotherhood, one big family, one race, and one nation. Even though, some didn't considered him as a Filipino hero, he did what he could for the country. He waged a fierce, incredibly silent, but effective, war for independence through his political writings, which encouraged the Filipino revolution, made him a renowned intellectual and political activist. Because of him and the other Filipino heroes who fought for the freedom in our country, the current state of the Philippines is not like before. 5. Yes, I do see the impact of Jose Rizal's life in our generation today. His support for education and knowledge has had a profound influence on young people. Rizal spent a large portion of his life advocating for education and information because he thought it was crucial for the advancement of the Philippines and its citizens. He believed that if Filipinos were educated and aware of their rights, they could only achieve true independence and freedom. With the help of his writings, he achieved to inspire and encourage Filipinos to expand their knowledge about various topics and issues which will be beneficial to our country today and in the future. His legacy serves as a strong reminder of the need of intellectual spark, critical thought, and the guts to stand up for one's beliefs. Both throughout his lifetime and up until the present, the Filipino youth have been profoundly impacted by his life and works. 6. Yes. YAPSANGCO (A18)

1. He inspired the revolution that set us free. This is the most important in my point of view because without this reasoning, we would not consider all of the other reasons. The Spaniards came to our country and oppressed us. They made sure that we are under their control but this revolution that Rizal inspired gave us our freedom back and let us take what was rightfully ours. 2. I think another reason for studying Rizal is to learn how he tackled these problems that he encountered in the past and we can put this into somewhat our perspective. As we learn his actions, we can see how he did so much for the country without being physically aggressive to the Spaniards. 3. I think it was not unfair for him to be called the greatest Filipino hero because him being a pacifist as well as able to accomplish all those for the country while we are under the rule of another country is truly a feat. He was able to do all those without placing much more lives in danger through mindless killings. 4. Yes Columbres (A06)

1) I think the most important on the five reasons given was “the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation”. The reason to this is since as time pass by so our memories of our ancestors’ nationalism were also forgotten. I think it is important to reminisce the beauty and the spirit of our ancestor’s nationalism through our heroes and their works especially on the case of Jose Rizal which is our National Hero. Just like how the works of Jose Rizal has sparked the revolution and the nationalism of the country, this also aims to liven up and sparked the nationalism within us. 2) If I were to add more reason to why we need to study Rizal’s life and works. I think it is to help the country to be more progressive. Just like one famous quotation of Rizal’s “Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinangalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan”, this law will also help our country avoid the past mistakes that our ancestors have done and paid to. Learning about our past while accepting the mistakes that our ancestors did will not just make us grow as a person but as a country. This can also guide leaders on the right path and avoiding detrimental mistakes that will harm their citizens. 3) To be honest, Rizal being a pacifist was actually a good thing for me since it actually makes him unique in my own opinion. Being a pacifist in times where hatred, anger, and injustice were the prime drivers on the revolution, it is commendable for him to be pacifist at those times. Where heroes mostly gave up their lives for our country, I think the greatest Filipino hero don’t exist since all of them are equal with each other. All of them have done mistakes, weaknesses and strengths so I don’t think picking the “greatest one” out of all the heroes is a great choice. However, seeing Rizal as a spark for the Philippine Revolution against Spaniards, inspiring other great Filipino heroes such as Andres Bonifacio. I think he deserves his position as a national hero. 4) Yes Amistoso (A07)

Salundaga (A01) 1. The inspiration of revolution that heightened Filipino consciousness on independence for me is the most prominent reason why studying the life andworks of Rizal is salient in the curriculum. Although he is not an advocate of armed revolt, his two novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo mounted the development of national consciousness. Rizal heightened the importance of the liberty of the people rather than the independence of the government that constitutes freedom. While the threats for human freedom is prevalent during those days, let us all remember that it was Rizal who underscore the importance of education in attainingliberty. Without his works, the dire consequences of our ignorance will still be felt nowadays. 2. Rizal- a hero, brilliant, martyr, academically excellent, … the way Rizal was described on every textbooks I have read is almost full of heroic compliment and admiration. Yet, I have read that there are lot of evidence on why Rizal is honored, it would be more euphoric to study Rizal if his weaknesses as a National Hero should also be discussed. While this may be due to the notion that the national hero should aspire people, we should also know that every people has its weaknesses. Does the way how he articulated theFilipinos sentiments as the basis of independence against tyranny failed in some way? Or does his way still works if it happened nowadays? If there is a reason why we need to study his life and works, it is how Rizal embody this weaknesses as a lesson in fusing people’s thoughts on independence. If we admire heroes without critical evaluation on their difficulties it is also possible that in the future, Filipino people would repeat the same mistakes again. 3.Based on Renato Constantino’s “Veneration without Understanding”, the martyrdom of Jose Rizal was questioned and was only considered as a hero because he is a reformist and a ‘pacifist’. Though it may be unfair to other candidates for commending Rizal as a national hero because he is a ‘pacifist’. If we would create our own criteria for national heroes excluding Americans from makingchoices, for me Rizal would still pass this criteria. We all know that Spaniardsoppressed the nation in the form of tyranny and if we Filipinos don’t want this kind of ideology thus it is also logical to react on this autrocracy in a waythat is not the same on how they use violence against us. Fighting can be diplomatic and bloodshed, the moral principles we follow is a reflection of what kind of fight we want to aspire to. Rizal is not a simple reformist who wants to destabilize the Spanish colonizers in our country, but the idea that he instored in us that if we decide to immerse our mind on the same hell the opressors have done to us there are two things which we can see from it: A hope or a mere hell of making. We would never know if we are not the one who would continue this fight, unless we keep moving forward, the real freedom would exist. 4. Yes.

1.) Dr. Jose Rizal is one of the important people in Philippine history; his writings are said to have impacted the country’s independence movement. Studying his life and works will supplement our knowledge in our history, and it is also crucial to reflect on the events and people that shaped the country’s current situation. Also, it will make us a more responsible, nationalist, and patriotic Filipino. To be ethical, virtuous, disciplined, and a citizen with a civic conscience. The life works, and writings of Dr. Jose Rizal, if not entirely, exemplify these characteristics. These characteristics can be passed on to our country's future generation. 2.) The life of a national historical character like Dr. Jose Rizal adds much to understanding our collective experience and distinction as Filipino people. Our history enables us to comprehend who we are as a person. We identify ourselves not only in terms of the place we are going but also in terms of the place we have come from. Our ancestry, previous accomplishments, and old practice as a country are notable clues that shaped our present lives. This Rizal subject's strong knowledge of the past will aid us to understand ourselves better and in making intelligent decisions in the present. 3.) Rizal was a multidimensional personality who didn't need a gun to make a point. His motto, "The pen is mightier than the sword," encapsulates his core belief in the urgent necessity to achieve freedom and civil liberty to pursue genuine happiness, free from the gaze of a foreign force. His two novels sparked a movement among his fellow countrymen to rise and realize their long-held dream of being free of the chains of Spanish conquest, tyranny, and captivity. He was said to be the hero to other heroes. However, there should be no competition as to who is greater among all the Philippine heroes. They all took different routes, but they all sincerely showed an unquenchable love for our country. 4.) Yes, I've watched the entire video. CERES (A01)

1.) The reason, number 4. Authorized by the Republic Act of 1425, it mandates that all college students, regardless, of the course, take Rizal courses. As a college student, I am also willing to take on this course to know more about our national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. Since Rizal is the founder of Philippine Nationalism and also contributed so much to our current standing, it is only right to teach Rizal's life, works, and writings. Also, to gain an inspiring source of patriotism through his life and works. 2.) To develop an appreciation of how he fought and died for. We all know Dr. Jose P. Rizal started a revolution against the Spanish Government to attain freedom and control for our country. He did it through his writing by broadcasting inhumane manipulation of the Spanish Government. Jose Rizal was able to attain freedom through it. He had a hard time going through this process, and I want us and other Filipinos to appreciate what he has done to us and to our country he died because he protect all the Filipinos not by protecting himself or his family. Dr. Jose P. Rizal is a national hero for a reason. 3.) Yes, because of him being smart and brilliant, he showed his love for the Filipinos by defending the rights, upholding the rights of Filipinos, and his bravery he lost his life because of his unconditional love for the country. The revelation of the oppression, mistreatment, enslavement of Spain in the Philippines around the world. What Jose Rizal did was an excellent and intelligent revelation and disclosure which cause in exchange for His Life. Which left a concern not just in human memory but recorded and written on the books. That even a few thousands of years past He’s bravery is always there until the age of time. 4.) Yes. Soriano (A06)

1. One of the five reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal that I think is the most important and meaningful is the 3rd reason which is He, Dr. Jose Rizal, has inspired the revolution that set us free. One strong reason is that without the revolution being happened we will not be able to experience being free and having to enjoy our life today. We must also appreciate the two great masterpieces that Dr. Jose Rizal has written, which are the "Noli me Tanghere" and "El Filibusterismo" which became the reason that inspired Andres Bonifacio to plan and start the revolution that sets us free. 2. If I were to add another reason why we should study Rizal's life and works, I believe it would be to thank him for dedicating his life and efforts to the Filipino people. Without his contributions, our country will never be free. Despite the fact that he did not take part in the war for freedom, he is the one who ignited the way of acquiring our country's independence. He is a poet and a nationalist whose life and writings served as an inspiration for the Philippine independence movement. Knowing about him is equivalent to understanding his significance in Philippine history. We were able to honor our national hero in this way. 3. I think it would be unfair for the other heroes because Rizal had did his own way of portraying his desire to achieving independence for our country, which is in a peaceful and systematized way, and the Americans only recognizing his pacifist ways just to give them a chance that the Filipino people will not revolt to them, and there other Filipino heroes who have fought for our independence not just as the same way as Rizal. In my opinion, Rizal was not the greatest Filipino hero but I consider him as one of our greatest filipino heroes. There should be no competition as to who is better or greater heroes. They chose different paths, but genuinely dedicated their lives to our country. The Philippines would not be the same without these great men. The pen was Rizal's weapon, while swords and guns were used by the others. Whether or not the pen is mightier than the sword, what matters is that they all fought for the country with all of their abilities and skills. 4. Yes Peralta (A01)

Maceren, A01 The most important reason why we study the life and works of Jose Rizal is the 5th reason which is “So Nationalism will Live on” because mainly as the generation of Filipinos go on for decades, people tend to forget our rich history in the past. With the lack of education in some areas of the country, some people may have a small amount of information on how the country faced difficulties around decades ago. From before colonialization up to martial law, Filipinos must remember how the whole Philippines transformed and realize the hardships that the country has faced before. Learning our country’s past can spark our nationalism. We should be proud that our ancestors really gave their whole life so that the country will be free. By this way, as the generation goes on, people will give love to the country and be proud to call themselves as Filipinos. To me this is the most important since as the generation goes on, we have great stories to say, we can be proud and pass them the spark which inspired many people to call themselves as Filipinos. Another reason as to why we need to study Rizal’s life and works that comes to mind is the appreciation of Rizal because of his sacrifice for his love for the Philippines. Learning his past, his contributions, everything that he has done for the country is priceless just so that the Filipinos could be free from the Spaniards. His works, the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, has sparked the hearts of many Filipinos, opening their eyes on reality and starting the revolution. Knowing the writings of Rizal can teach us what is life during the colonization. His endless efforts when we get to know his history can inspire us and really appreciate everything that Rizal has done. His acts and deeds awaken the innate feeling to fight for the people, freedom, justice, and rights of the Filipinos. His weapon of choice is using a pen and words instead of physical violence, just to reduce any casualties. However, the ultimate price is his life, his love for the country and for the people in exchange for a single man’s life. That is why for me, another reason why we study this topic is to appreciate everything that Rizal has done. I don’t think it was unfair for the other heroes. I believe that Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero at all. There are many heroes who fought for freedom and rights in different ways. Yes, he wasn’t the type of hero who uses guns and bolos to fight their way to freedom. Jose Rizal used words as a means to establish war to the Spaniards, intricate words can be as deadly as a sword which was the weapon of choice for Rizal during his time. As the phrase would say “silent but deadly”. His finest novels sparked the hearts of Filipinos to stand up against the Spaniards. Like a forge, his spark ignited and inspired the future generation of Filipinos to fight for the country. While his death was imminent, many Filipinos did not lose hope as his ideals and reality of Spanish colonization remained in the hearts of many and for more to come, to stand up for justice and freedom. Lastly, yes, I have watched the entire video lecture.

1. Jose Rizal's life and achievements are important to study because, in my opinion, "He is the Father of the Filipino Nation," since he educated all of the natives of our archipelago that we are all Filipinos and that we are one nation, which was not the natives' belief before his time. Jose Rizal changed everything, even proposing that the term "Filipino" should only be used to refer to those who were born on the islands, not Spaniards. Despite their different dialects and traditions, Rizal helped the Philippines' many regions recognize that they are all Filipinos and that they are all part of one great country. 2. If I had to add one more reason for studying his life and works, it would be this: "Learn how he thinks and handle circumstances." Knowing his life and work can give us different kinds of ideas that may help us nowadays. It can help us in using various strategies to present social and personal obstacles or dilemmas in order to resolve current difficulties. 3. I don't think it was unjust to the other heroes that those who chose Rizal had their own goal in elevating him to the top of the heap because a hero is someone who exemplifies goodness. Rizal gave us freedom through goodness. Because he fought for freedom in a modest but effective manner, Jose Rizal became a national hero in the Philippines. Rather than employing force or aggression, he expressed his love for the Philippines through books, essays, and articles. He was a wonderful man at the time. He was a modest man who preferred to fight for reforms via his writings rather than by revolution. 4. Yes Agraviador(A07)

1. In my perspective, among the five discussed in the video, the most important is the number five: "So the spirit of nationalism will live on us and in the next generation". It is because nationalism is a powerful weapon. The one to four reasons why Rizal can be acknowledged or followed by people even without nationalism, however, it will only look as compliance. People will only do it because it is required, mandatory, or because it is always discussed in school. But, if people have nationalism then they will pursue more for the betterment of the country, for instance, actions like applying the learnings in the novels of Dr. Rizal such as not giving up our freedom and fighting what is right for our country. 2. If I were to add another reason then, it is to teach the youth about Dr. Rizal's fighting for which is freedom. The youths should inculcate in their mind and hearts the hardship of Dr. Rizal to help the Filipinos realize many things especially to fight for our freedom. It is also relevant in the present since the election is coming. The youth in this time are easy to be moved by their emotions, money, and influence. In my perspective, there are still lots of them who do not seem to care if history repeats itself. Thus, it is important to teach the youths the one Dr. Rizal is mainly fighting for--our freedom! 3. In my perspective, Dr. Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero since he is amazing in a way that he only used his writing skills as a medium to open up the eyes, minds, and hearts of our fellow Filipinos. Moreover, his way of dealing with things like being smarter than always using brute force for fighting is a good example for everyone. Finally, Dr. Rizal still chooses to fight for the Philippines despite having the chance to live his life in a different country. He did not let power, money, influence, and fear to hinder him, and hence, he showed the Filipinos how much love he had for our country. 4. Yes Buenconsejo (A01)

Out of the discussed 5 reasons, I find the 5th reason, the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation, is the most important. Nationalism is the one that holds the nation because it promotes the interests of a particular nation that aims to gain and maintain the nations sovereignty. I chose it as the most important because Jose Rizal was our eye opener to all the malpractices that was made by the authorities before. This will remind us that we should always prioritize and support our own advocacies for the political independence of our land. If I were had the chance to add another reason on why we need to study Jose Rizal’s life and work, I would add the sentence, “We will be reminded and learn from what the authorities that time did to our country”. If Jose Rizal was not able to expose the truth behind those authorities, it will be much more appalling than it was. An example of this is what the Catholic Church was doing behind our back. Padre Damaso, despite being a priest, he still went and get a wife. Addition to this he even made a child with her wife wherein these actions are against its rules. If I were one of the chosen heroes, it would not be unfair because the title “Hero” is not something I would be fighting to get for. What I will be fighting for would be my goals for the country and what impact it will do, so I think it will be the same for the other heroes. Having that said, I believe that Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he fought for the freedom of our country in a powerful way. Even though it was through writing, despite his work are words only, it threatened the authorities that were trying to colonize our country. Yes. Dacanay (A01)

MALANCO (A06) 1. For me, the most important reason why we need to study the life and work of Jose Rizal is number 5; so the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation. We have to pass our knowledge and all we know about our national hero to the next generation so they know why are we free today. It is important to know history especially the history of our freedom and who are the heroes behind this and what they did to make us free. With the study of the history, we will be reminded why we should be proud to be a Filipino. 2. If I am going to add one reason why we need to study his life and works, I think it is to give a tribute for all his deeds and sacrifices devoting his life to make us free. We don't just study about his life and works, we also pay a tribute for him and respect all his sacrifices. 3. I do believe that it was fair that choosing Rizal one of the greatest hero and I do believe that he is the greatest hero of our country. Jose Rizal being a pacifist never fought with violence, instead he fought using his pen and his knowledge to enlighten the other Filipino that us free. 4. Yes.

The most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is the "It is mandated by law". Jose Rizal deserve to recognize by the youth because of all of her sacrifices to set us free. One of her famous line that we never forget is "Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng ating bayan". I believe that's why it is mandated by the law because Rizal is the one who believe the ability of the youth that's why Goverment believe it too. When the youth study the life and works of Jose Rizal it will love our country more because they know how Jose Rizal sacrifices our to set us free. As a student, If I will give a chance to add one more reason why we need to study life and works of Jose Rizal is "To know more his famous novel" We all know that his Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo is so inspiring novel to know more the history of the Philippines how our country bondage by the Spain. To that novel shown that few who have care to change something and give voices who suffer injustices that time. The goal of that two famous novel of Jose Rizal is give Filipinos fair treatment to express their own nation and to remove bad treatment of Spaniards to the Filipinos. For me Jose Rizal deserve to be the National Hero of the Philippines because of her all concern to the Filipino's and also to the our country. I think it's not unfair to the other heroes because they are all different way to set the Philippines free, for an example Andres Bonifacio and Jose Rizal. Jose Rizal use his pen to write to set our country to be free and Andres Bonifacio established revolution to fight Spanish Colonizer. Yes Gutierrez(A07)

1. In my opinion the most important reason would be inspiring the revolution that set us free. The revolution that set us free is the reason we are here today. Thanks to the novel of Jose Rizal; Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo that inspired Andres Bonifacio to to ignite and start the revolution it helped the people and the country get out the grasp of the Spaniards making the country whole. It will continue to inspire the next generation of Filipinos as intended by Jose Rizal, Andres Bonifacio, and all those who died protecting the Philippines and setting the country free. 2. If I were to add one more reason on why we need to study Jose Rizal's life and work is to spark more nationalism to live in us and to future generations. Reading the novels that Jose Rizal wrote will make us understand what he was willing to convey and study how it inspired Andres Bonifacio into proceeding with the revolution. As the novels is a huge reason on how it sparked the revolution this can help us understand the spirit of Filipinos from that time and continue to love, respect, and defend our country from other foreigners that intends to take over our country. 3. I do not think that it was unfair for other Filipino heroes that Jose Rizla got the title of National Hero. Because Jose Rizal is a pacifist he inspired other people and probably other countries that one can also fight without using guns or swords but instead through the use of pen and paper. I believe that Jose Rizal is one of the greatest Filipino Heroes as it takes a lot of courage to fight with pen and paper, being a pacifist in the time of fighting with guns creates and gives example to future leaders that a fight can also be through words and a pen and paper. 4. 1.) The third reason, his way that set a spark for a revolution is indeed the root of the freedom that we enjoy today. Moreover, with this freedom, we also get to proclaim ourselves as independent people hence Filipinos and not just “Indios” which was a derogatory term used by the Spaniards to discriminate our people back we were still colonized. Jose Rizal had also envisioned this for our country where all the natives of our archipelago belong as one nation and are all called Filipinos, therefore, even though he did not intend to start to start a revolution, it was still his idea that we become our own people for our own country. 2.) I would add the reason that he is our national hero, who was fortunate enough to become highly educated unlike our other heroes. He had gotten the chance to live his life peacefully elsewhere in the world, rather he chose to open the eyes of his readers, particularly the people of our country, to see what he sees wrong from the Spaniards. Here we can also see how life was back then through the eyes of Jose Rizal. Although Jose Rizal did not experience the cruelty of the Spaniards to the Filipinos, his writings very much depicted how we were treated back then. 3.) No, I do not think that it is unfair for the other heroes and I still believe that Jose Rizal should is the greatest Filipino hero. Because being a hero is not about shredding blood and even sacrificing your own life for your own country but I think it is about inspiring the hearts of your fellow men to do something they thought of is impossible for them to do. His death encouraged our country men to fight the Spaniards to claim their freedom even though their are outgunned and untrained to do so. They were all fed up with the Spaniards and Jose Rizal was the trigger for them to fight. 4.) Yes. Manongdo (A06)

1. I believe that the most important reason and belief on why we need to study the life and works of Rizal is that "He inspired the Revolution that set us free.". Rizal was a war that was quiet, tranquil, and calm. Instead of employing force, he used nonviolent tactics such as authoring literature, developing arts, and emphasizing on Filipino culture to arouse everyone's patriotic impulses. He opposed the revolution because Rizal believed that the successful improvements should originate from above. It's logical that the hero believed this because it was the belief of the ruling class, which Rizal belonged to. 2. To reawaken youth's commitment to the ideas of liberty and nationalism for which our heroes fought and died. To honor our national hero for dedicating his life and efforts to the development of the Filipino character. Through the study of Rizal's life, works, and writings, one might get an inspiring source of patriotism. It is critical not just to learn but also to appreciate Rizal, his works, and contributions, particularly his books, which may teach us about life before our independence. Because of the invaluable service he provided to the country. Jose Rizal's devotion to the Philippines led to his execution. It was such a brave gesture of self-sacrifice for an accusation and being a role model in the Filipino uprising. 3. Jose Rizal became a national hero in the Philippines because he battled for freedom in a quiet but effective manner. "He was the most multi-talented guy who ever lived.". Rizal battled by writing, which enlightened a large number of Filipinos. Rizal's tactics put him apart from his contemporaries in terms of nobility and dignity. Rizal used goodness to give us freedom. Jose Rizal became a national hero in the Philippines because he battled for freedom in a quiet but effective manner. Rather than using force or aggression, he used his books, essays, and articles to show his love for the Philippines. At the time, he was a very remarkable individual. He was modest, preferring to fight for reforms through his writings rather than a revolution. Instead of being confrontational, he used his brains, talents, and skills in a far more peaceful manner. 4. YES. PINEDA (A06)

1.In my viewpoint, the last reason stated is the most important reason that Filipinos should remember when studying Dr. Jose Rizal's life and works. “So the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation” this reason for studying the impacts made by Dr. Rizal on our history can keep us grounded in our roots. It is also the reason that Filipinos, especially the students of the new generation, should inculcate in their hearts and minds because this impetus can remind us of the importance of the works made by our national hero. Moreover, Filipinos are known for our nationalism, and studying how Dr. Rizal made his way to becoming our greatest hero will build a strong foundation for the values of the young people. And as a result, the next generation will be aware of Rizal's contributions, which they can apply to their future endeavors, as Jose Rizal set a good example by being a competent student and astute leader. 2. So Filipino youth will be reminded of the uniqueness of Rizal’s perspective on things. - It is a known fact that there have been many debates on why and how did Rizal was made to be the Philippines’ national hero. However, according to the facts gathered over the years, Dr. Rizal's methods were vastly different from those of the other heroes who earned him recognition. For this reason, the students of today’s generation will be able to witness, even only with his written works, the ethics and dedication he has made over the fighting years he dedicated to the island of the Philippines. This can also nourish the students’ way of thinking especially now that uncertainties on the 21stcentury’s predicted history is massively driving to a different path. The unique way of thinking of Dr. Jose Rizal can contribute to how the younger generation can respond to the challenges that may arise. 3. I believe that Dr. Jose Rizal's recognition stemmed from his unique stance when he was still fighting for the freedom that we now enjoy. Furthermore, I am certain that his methods were able to move the mountains that stood in the way of the other heroes. Also, the honor is well-deserved because he distinguished himself by employing a more in-depth attack with his pen. Those attacks left a mark on the hearts of Filipinos, and his works fueled the fire of love for our motherland. As they say, the pen is mightier than the sword, and the words written on a piece of paper continue to teach us why we should not let history repeat itself. And, yes, because of Jose Rizal's proven contributions to our history and the history that we are currently creating, I do believe that he deserves his title. 4. Yes

1. The most important reason for me to study the Life of Doctor Jose Rizal is to that the nationalism will still live on. Through studying the life of Jose Rizal, we can become more proud of our nationality and will boost our nationalism for the country. Nationalism is very important, especially today which there are many countries that wants to occupy our territories. Boosting nationalism for every person will help to protect our territories and would make a stand to the world that even though the Philippines is a small country, we will not bow to anyone and do what they want. The Filipino people will do anything to protect or to fight for what is ours. 2. If I were to add a reason on why the students should study the Life of Doctor Jose Rizal, it would be to teach the young Filipinos about the challenges in life of the young Jose Rizal and how he used his written works to lit the nationalism in the hearts of our countrymen. This would inspire the students to study more and learn more to be able to serve the country and to his or her countrymen. Teaching students about how did Jose Rizal came up to the idea to use written works to inspire the Filipino soldiers would help the students to realize that you don't need to be good in fighting to support the soldiers. 3. For me, Jose Rizal is not the greatest Filipino hero, because we cannot ignore the contributions of other heroes such as Andres Bonifacio and General Antonio Luna. I know that it was Jose Rizal who inspires them to fight, but it was them who did the fighting. Therefore it is unfair to other heroes since they don't receive the same amount of recognition as Jose Rizal had received. Some of the of the young Filipinos don't know the names of other Filipino heroes who also fought against the Spaniards. I think that if they hadn't made a movie about General Luna, other people may not know anything about him, this is the reason why I found it unfair for the America to say that Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. 4. 1. In my opinion, if I have to choose the most important reason, it would be the 5th reason-- “So nationalism will live on”. Generally, it covers all the remaining reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal. The sense of being a nationalistic person means that you are knowledgeable enough to dedicate your loyalty to your own nation. With that, it means you know how, and you have the pride to introduce "The Philippines" whenever you encounter foreign nationals that are curious--mentioning that there is one Filipino national that has contributed greatly to the legacy and history of his own nation. The sole purpose as to why we are mandated to learn Rizal’s history, is not just to learn it by mind, but also be familiar with it by heart. Choosing the 5th reason as to why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal, for me, is a way to pay more tribute to our national hero's sacrifice, of devoting his life and dedicating his works for the betterment of the people of his nation. 2. "To know the reasons behind who "The Philippines" is today" - to know our country’s history, our origin, and our society’s system. This reason is equally as important to the listed reasons as this give us the answer to our nationalism, to our early traditions, ways, and any other phenomena that shaped us to what we currently are. And this could lead us to be more knowledgeable not just to Rizal’s life but to ours as well. It is one way for us to be linked together to the country’s past lives. As well as to recognize, appreciate and honor the historical events, traditions and the culture of the Filipinos from that time. 3. Yes, it would be unfair that Rizal was claimed as the greatest national among others as all of them had a significant role in shaping the Filipino character. Even if Rizal was deemed as an American-sponsored hero, his works should not weigh more than others as you cannot objectively compare how impactful his works compared to others, as they face different situations and circumstances. In accordance to an article that I have read, Rizal wasn’t explicitly determined as the greatest national hero in the Philippines but was declared as one of the top national heroes of the said country alongside 8 more individuals such as Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, and Apolinario Mabini. That being said, I believe that he shouldn’t be called as the greatest Filipino hero but should be deemed as one of the top national ‘Filipino’ heroes. The term ‘greatest’ can only be subjectively said by an individual, it may be more with others but different people have different perspective on how impactful a work is. 4. Yes. Medalla (A06)

1.) Based on my understanding, the most important reason out of the five reasons on why we need to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, is the fifth one "So that nationalism will live on". I think that this is the most important aspect because this will teach the youth or younger generation in our country the sense of nationalism and love for our country. The current generation has been flooded by overseas media such as kpop, novels, dramas, etc. to the point that we are forgetting to favor our own makings. Many has loss the interest and love for our country, and by reminding them the history that our country had, this may spark the feeling of love for the country to the filipino youths, even adults. Like what rizal said "He who does not know how to look back at where he came from, will never get to his destination". 2.) If I am going to add another reason, I would add, So the people will be aware of the history of our freedom. I think that many are curious on how was our country able to be set free despite the numerous numbers of conquerers that arrived in our country, one even took over for over than 3 centuries. This is important to remind the people who will study this course the history that our country and people underwent to give us the freedom that we have right now. The sacrifices, intelligence, bravery that our fellow filipinos showed, and this will potentially boost the feeling of nationalism among us. 3.) I feel like is was not unfair that Rizal was crowned the greatest among all of those who fought for our freedom, simply because without him (or his novels), the spark for revolution or spark of fighting for our freedom will never happen. The spaniard may have repressed every single attempt we had. We will have no idea that we are one and a strong sense of brotherhood will never be formed against the spaniards. He was the one who indirectly fought for the Filipinos and we is also the one who united us all. I do believe the Rizal is the greatest hero, I am also aware of all of the minds and strength that our fellow comrade had. I am not neglecting brilliant filipinos such as Emilio Aguinaldom Mabini, Bonifacio, Luna, etc. I just think that Rizal was the father of them all. 4.) YESSSSS RIVERA, A01

MASONGSONG (A06) 1. The most important reason for me why we study the life and works of Jose Rizal, he inspired the revolution that sets us free, because if Rizal did not start the revolution happened in Spanish colonization we don’t have the independence we have today and we are not free from the other colonizers who tried to colonize the Philippines. In order to know and understand the revolution and the Filipino nation, the study of Jose Rizal and his novels helps a lot, especially for us the young generation who needs to acknowledge and appreciate what Dr. Jose Rizal fought and died for our beloved nation. 2. If I’m going to add one more reason why we need to study Jose Rizal, it would be portrayal of love for our beloved country, just like Dr. Jose Rizal who died because he fought for the independency and freedom of our nation from the conquerors. Dr. Jose Rizal’s patriotism for our country could be seen in his works by just using his pen and intelligence without using guns and violence to execute and to prove what the true reality that is happening during Spanish colonization that the Filipino citizen needs to know. 3. I believed that Jose Rizal is the Philippines greatest hero because he fought for our freedom without using violence, he used his intelligence and pen through articles and novels such as Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, as a silent but a powerful way to start a revolution for the freedom of our nation. He opened the eyes of reality of the other Filipino citizens who was not aware of the brutality and suffering that the Spaniards did during their colonization in our country. What happened in the past are the outcomes that we have today, from the braveness and resiliency of Jose Rizal together with the other Philippine heroes. 4. Yes

Abulencia // B43 1. It’s not unfair. It’s essential to recognize that historical narratives can evolve over time. Subsequent generations have sought to rectify these historical biases and have highlighted the contributions of other heroes. Today, the significance of all national heroes is appreciated, and their respective roles in the struggle for independence are acknowledged and celebrated. 2. I think all of the five reasons is important to study the life and works of Jose Rizal because first, it’s our personal and national pride to give answers to the foreigners who don’t have enough knowledge about him. Second, He is the father of Filipino nation. He is a highly esteemed national hero in the Philippines and played a crucial role in the country's struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. Third, he set the revolution that set us free. "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo" encouraged the Filipinos to seek reforms peacefully and instigated a movement for independence. Forth, is mandated by the law. The goal is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Rizal's contributions to Philippine history and the formation of the Filipino identity. Fifth, spirit of nationalism through education, we can ensure that this vital sentiment lives on in us and is passed down to the next generation. 3. Learning from their experiences. He demonstrated an extraordinary capability and potential. By studying his achievements, we can broaden our understanding of what is possible and expand our own sense of what we can achieve. This can motivate us to push beyond our perceived limits and strive for greatness in our own lives. Also, He faced significant challenges and obstacles throughout his life. These lessons can be applied to our own lives and help us navigate similar challenges. By learning from someone who has already gone through a particular situation or mastered a certain skill, we can acquire valuable information and expertise. This can accelerate our own learning process and help us achieve our goals more effectively. Learning from someone's experience can broaden our perspective and provide alternative viewpoints. We may gain insights and understand different approaches to problem-solving or decision-making. This expanded perspective can help us develop a more well-rounded understanding of a particular subject or situation. 4. For me Rizal is the “Father of Filipino nation”. His contributions and impact on the Philippines are widely recognized and celebrated, but we must also remember that it's important to acknowledge that different individuals and cultures may have varying perspectives on who they consider to be the greatest hero. Heroism is subjective and can be influenced by historical, cultural, and personal factors. It is essential to acknowledge the collective efforts of numerous individuals, organizations, and communities in the struggle for Philippine independence. While Rizal's contributions were crucial in fostering national consciousness and inspiring resistance to Spanish rule, the achievement of independence involved the combined efforts of many revolutionaries and the complex historical circumstances of the time. 5. I can say that Dr. José Rizal's impact extends beyond a particular generation and continues to resonate with people today. Rizal's ideas, writings, and sacrifices have left a lasting imprint on Philippine history and have influenced subsequent generations. Rizal's dedication to education as a means of empowerment and his emphasis on critical thinking and intellectual growth have had a profound impact on subsequent generations. His belief in the transformative power of education continues to influence educational policies and initiatives in the Philippines. Rizal's impact extends beyond his own generation and continues to inspire and shape the thoughts and actions of individuals today. His legacy serves as a reminder of the importance of courage, intellectual pursuits, and a deep love for one's country in the pursuit of positive change and national development. 6. Yes.

1) For my opinion we should study rizal because of how he inspired the revolution that set us free. Once, jose rizal thought that the only thing important in life was education but he realized that it really depends on what kind of education because one kind can blind us. Jose rizal learned that not all people are equal although he didn’t intend to start a revolution, he opened our hearts to fight back with those novels. Jose rizal experienced all sorts of pain because he lost his wife, child, family, dignity and freedom when he was deported, deceived and betrayed. 2) The filipinos still fight even the enemies power is strong because of their riches and advantages. Jose rizal always makes a point that education is the best gift that we could ever receive because this is where we can have a power in all the aspects in life as our knowledge leads to be respected and makes us richer in health, relationships and also money which is essential to help us survive in this life to make a legacy or meaningful life as it gives us purpose. Knowledge is something that will serve you your whole life. The most powerful thing in the world is knowledge because helps us distinguish between humans and animals. Knowledge is the ability to use your knowledge to help others. 3) Yes, but I think we all have our own heroes and there’s a reason why someone choose them. We have different perspectives/views of how we see a hero. Jose rizal learned that not all people are equal because spaniards incarcerated the honor and history of filipinos. Jose rizal ask for equality, recognigtion that filipinos are equals of spaniards. Jose rizal was teased because of his physical appearance. 4) Yes, I watch the entire lecture of “why study rizal?” GARCIA, JOHN RENZ C. Section A01 - AR 4th Yr

The most significant reason for studying Jose Rizal's life and works, in my opinion, is that he "inspired the Revolution that set us free." Apart from that, he ignited the independence movement by serving as a reflection to the ill colonial administration that had developed over the years of Spanish colonization. Rizal was a firm believer in peaceful reform. He joined the Propaganda Movement in Europe, together with other Filipino intellectuals, liberals, and emigrants, to demand, not revolution, but equal rights for Filipinos as citizens of the Spanish Empire. Being a Filipino, Rizal exemplified the best characteristics. If I were to add one more reason why we should study his life and works, I would say that it is important to study in order to better understand the significance of Rizal's ideas and teachings in relation to current societal conditions and events. Because many individuals nowadays are unaware of Jose Rizal's accomplishments. Dr. Jose Rizal's life is significant and necessary because he serves as a source of inspiration for Filipino youth. Children in the Philippines must understand what Dr. Jose Rizal was fighting for. Filipino children must also understand that, like Rizal, they may defend their nation without resorting to violence. He was able to fight the colonists by literature, armed only with a pen and paper. No, it’s not unfair for the other heroes that those who chose Rizal had their own agenda in making him as the greatest of them all. Rizal was given special attention as a hero by the American colonial government because, unlike more radical thinkers whose beliefs may encourage insurrection against American authority, he was deemed to embody peaceful political activism. Yes, I consider Rizal is indeed the greatest Filipino because he not only lived his life in pursuit of equality and freedom for his countrymen, but he also perished in pursuit of his principles. Nothing that a human being could do for you is much more honorable than sacrificing his own life for your freedom. Jose Rizal was undoubtedly an academic, as evidenced by the records and works that he left behind. He was a doctor by profession, but he was also a poet, author, painter, sculptor, chess and sports expert, and a polyglot. For a Filipino of his day, he was so gifted that it sounded too fantastic to be true. Rizal's effect on us, in my opinion, is to live to your full potential and to share that potential with others. He also encourages Filipinos to be strong and fearless, regardless of their size or race. Knowing that he comes from a wealthy family, he encourages privileged Filipinos to use their resources properly and not for vanity. Therefore, he is worthy of the title of national hero. 1.) Out of all the five reasons to study the life and works of Jose Rizal, the fifth reason is the most important. The spirit of nationalism should always burn inside us and it should be maintained burning up to the next generations, and this can be done by constantly teaching the young ones and even adults so that, they may never forget how Rizal fought for our own identity and inspired people to make the native Filipino be free and treated as equals. Knowing what Rizal did, may Filipinos be awakened by their genuine love for their country and continue on improving what he has started. 2.) History repeats itself which is why another reason to study his life and works is to gain knowledge and wisdom on how we can prove and fight for our rights and our property if ever another conquest threatens the Philippine waters and its islands. Physical war is not the only key to fighting for what is ours. We have laws and treaties that will protect our rights on our lands and waters. Similar to what Jose Rizal did which is to spark a revolution through pen and paper, we should focus on unarmed war and use our minds to settle disparities. 3.) In my own opinion, making Rizal the greatest hero among all Filipino heroes is not unfair for the other heroes. As far as I know, we don’t have accounts from other heroes that Rizal shouldn’t be the Filipinos' greatest hero since he was a pacifist. To disprove making Rizal as the greatest Filipino hero as unfair, Bonifacio was inspired by Rizal’s writings which in turn created a revolution to fight Spanish colonization. Even if they had their own agenda in representing him as the greatest Filipino hero, as long as it is for the good of the country, it won't be unfair. I believe that he is the greatest Filipino hero because he proved that a pen is really more powerful than a sword. Even in his death, his writings continue to inspire other people to stand up for their rights as Filipinos. He may not be the one who finished the revolution but, he was the one who inspired it. By being an inspiration, Filipinos were not deprived of their liberty. 4.) Yes -Barcia (A06)

1. “The spirit of nationalism will live on in us and can be passed on to the next generation”, would be the most important reason for me among the five for it shows how we value our history and not just put it in the context of the book. Thus, by making that happen, Filipinos can inherit such a wonderful nor informative history which emphasizes the life of Jose Rizal. Correspondingly, remembering his actions for instance making novels become the inspiration of others to start revolutions therefore, as he makes movement in order to get the freedom our country deserve, we, Filipinos, should live with the spirit of nationalism not just to honor him but to also show Jose Rizal how we value the sacrifices him and other heroes for us to be free from being colonized. 2. One reason to add would be, Filipinos can know the value of education and how it can help us achieve our goal though Jose Rizal ended up being dead as he pursues to fight for our country however we cannot deny how his intellectual capacity help him by doing his writing that triggers the Spaniards to stop him from doing novels. On the other hand, Jose Rizal clearly depicts how being well-educated can help you solve things differently as how others usually make it in the same procedure. However, I do not intend to insult other heroes with no educational background, I just emphasize how Dr. Jose Rizal makes a change by having commendable qualities of intelligence. 3. Dr. Jose Rizal is the greatest hero our country has, not to neglect the sacrifices and movements of others; however, Jose Rizal fought in a different yet powerful way which is by means of writing novels, essays, and articles. As we all know, majority of named hero fought through the use of force by having wars and killing each other but Jose Rizal did not do any of that but with the intelligence and being well-educated lead him to make a change in our country without the use of violence but his works speak more power because he write with his heart as he really cares for our country. Furthermore, what makes him the greatest is that he does not only search for the freedom and equality of our country but he sacrifices his own life for us to attain our freedom. 4. 1. In my perspective, the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal is that he influenced and led the Filipinos to start revolution against the Spaniards to have freedom and gain control on our country. Through his writing works especially his novels, he opened the eyes of his countrymen and exposed the abusive and oppressive power of the Spaniards. His writings awakened Philippine nationalism and and patriotism which promoted the idea of individual rights and the eventuality of the national independence for the Filipino people. He showed qualities of courageousness, intelligence and determination to fight for our country. 2. If I’m going to add one more reason why we need to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, it is because it can give us different perspective of him and his life. Although he did not physically fought with swords or guns like what other Filipino heroes did, he used his pen and knowledge instead of power and violence to let the Filipinos know the truth on what is really happening on our country during Spanish colonial era. His works have taught Filipinos especially the youth that they can show their love for the country in various ways not only through the use of violence. 3. I don’t think that it was unfair for other heroes that Dr Jose P. Rizal was chosen as a national hero even though they have a different agenda that makes him greatest of them all; in fact, he and his works serves as an eye-opener for the Filipinos just like the Katipuneros on how the Spaniards abused their powers towards the Filipinos. These contributions that he had made, led the Filipino people to fight against the Spanish colonizers. He might not used weapons to fight for our country but the sacrifices that he had made by devoting his life to create literary works, gave light to the minds of every Filipinos which makes him the greatest Filipino hero. 4. 1. The most important reason, in my opinion, why we should study Jose Rizal's life and works is that he is the father of the Filipino nation because he brought us together and made us realize that we are all Filipinos and that we are one nation. There was no concept of natives before, and we had no idea that we belonged to one big country. Each barangay treats each other as though they were from different kingdoms rather than country-mates. The natives were referred to as Filipinos in Rizal's essay, and the many peoples of the Philippines understood that they all belonged to one big country, and we are all Filipinos, despite our diverse dialects and traditions. In this situation, it sparked a fire in our souls for nationalism, and as a result, we gained our freedom and independence, allowing us to become a free country without becoming reliant and slaves from other countries. 2. It will motivate people to think differently. We've always thought of Rizal as a legendary hero since he fought through his words rather than violence, emphasizing the importance of the mind over power. When we think about it, we have had the ability to get things done our way. It is up to us to decide how we should act in specific situations. Also, Rizal must be studied in order to understand the underlying causes of our country's history, which may be applied to our current situation, where we all know that certain Filipinos continue to choose to close their eyes for the truth. 3. I consider Rizal to be the greatest Filipino hero in my opinion. Because of his execution by Spaniards and his peaceful approach to achieving liberation, the Americans supported Rizal. Unlike Andres Bonifacio, whose yearning for independence for his homeland necessitated the use of violence. That's why Jose Rizal was picked as the national hero instead of our other national heroes. After the Aguinaldo-led armed forces were defeated during the Philippine-American conflict, Jose Rizal was considered the greatest Filipino hero during the American colonization. Also, violence will not bring peace; it will only make things worse and more difficult in the end. 4. Yes - Vinzon (A06)

1. We should study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal because it is pivotal to know our history. By now, we know that he is one of the most important people in our history. Out of all the five reasons discussed, I think, the most important reason why students like us should study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal is because he inspired people to revolt against the colonizers. If he didn't spark the revolution, maybe we wouldn't be free, maybe we are a part of Spain or another colonizing country. Or maybe we were able to attain freedom, but after a decade or so. Not only did he start a revolution, but he also helped in uniting the nation. Filipinos wouldn’t exist without Rizal’s initiative. 2. There is a saying that "history repeats itself." In our history, Dr. Jose Rizal has played a crucial role in leading us to our freedom we have right now. I think that is another reason for us to study Rizal's life and works. It teaches us to fight for our rights and for the oppressed. Rizal sacrificed his life for the lives of thousands of Filipinos who he does not even know, including us. We would not be living in this democratic country. War and violence are not solutions to problems, but raising our voice can make a difference, without unnecessary bloodshed. 3. Rizal is one of the greatest Filipino heroes, that is a given fact. He was able to fight with his pen and words. Him being a pacifist does not make other heroes who fought with weapons less of a hero. They are all heroes who were willing to sacrifice their life for their country. Honestly speaking, words were not enough to fight during those times. We were trying to defend and reclaim the land that belongs to us. I don't think it's unfair that some people chose Rizal as the greatest hero because of their own agenda. As long as they are not belittling the efforts of the other heroes. 4. Yes. Santos (A07)

1. "The spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation" would be the most important reason for us to study The Life and Works of Jose Rizal. This statement demonstrates that embracing who we are and where we came from is also a way to honor Dr. Jose Rizal's sacrifices to set us free from being colonized. Further, his famous novels, Noli Me Tangere and the El Filibusterismo became the spark to start a revolution. Therefore, we must not let this spirit die and educate future generations about our history, as it represents the bravery and fortitude of every Filipino. 2. One more reason why we should study his life and works would be his love and devotion to our country and his fellow Filipinos. Despite his untimely death, our subsequent heroes gave him justice so that they could fight for what was right. His works became the key to achieving the liberty we now enjoy. Furthermore, they proved that we could not be crushed and dominated by Spaniards alone, but also by other foreign countries. 3. Dr. Jose Rizal ought to be acknowledged as our national hero, in my opinion. Not to neglect the sacrifices of other heroes, however, among all of them, he's the only person who fought by writing novels and articles. He utilized his intelligence to unveil the truth and awaken the minds of his fellow man. In addition, he simply proved that employing a weapon is not required to win a battle. That being said, I believe it is this quality that distinguishes him as the greatest hero. 4. Yes. Dela Cruz (A07)

1. For me, the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is because “he inspired the revolution that set us free”. Without him and his works, Andres Bonifacio would have taken a long time to be able to organize a revolution. Through his passion for his country and the Filipino people that was reflected in his works, he ignited Filipino nationalism and even became the symbol for it - that is still evident in modern times. He was the epitome of a young intelligent revolutionist that strived for the independence of the Philippines. We bear the fruits of his (and countless others) labor, today. 2. Another reason why we need to study his life and works is because he serves as an inspiration for the youth. Since the society (at least during Rizal’s time) disregards the youth - especially the Filipino youth, as the Spaniards looked down on them. Rizal stated that “kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.” He believed, through his statement, that the youth are not powerless in a society that caters to adults. He inspires the youth to be brave and take a stand whenever injustice happens. This statement manifests itself today as most of the rallies happening in the country are organized by youth leaders hungry for change. 3. In my opinion, it is kind of unfair for the other heroes because a hero, by definition, is someone “who is admired for having done something very brave or having achieved something great” (Cambridge Dictionary, n.d), They should not be ranked because they may have fought differently, but it is all towards the same goal - which is for the country to be independent. However, even though it seems unfair, regardless of what the agenda of the Americans was, it is undeniable that Jose Rizal is the “greatest hero” material because of his intelligence and bravery. He fought without shedding blood, and his teachings through his literature works are still prevalent today. 4. Yes, I did. Garcia (A01)

1.) One of the most important reasons why we should study the life of Dr. Jose Rizal is, he is the father of Filipino Nation. Because of him, we are now one nation. Unlike long ago before Spaniards, the Filipinos were separated by different barangays and don’t even have a slightest idea that we are belong from one country. And, this is very important for every Filipino until today, because the achievement of one is a pride to everyone. Aside from that, He inspired the revolution that set us free is also a very important reason. Andres Bonifacio made inspiration from Dr. Jose Rizal’s novel Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo that made Filipinos fought for their freedom, and freedom for the next generation of Filipinos that until now we are very grateful for. 2.) If I were going to add one more reason why we should study about the life of Dr. Jose Rizal, I will add, to get to know him better. To get to know Dr. Jose Rizal as a National Hero of the Philippines better. Because, maybe, we thought being a Filipino, we already know so much about him but what if what we actually know is just like a tip of an iceberg. There is so much more to know about the life and also the works of Dr. Jose Rizal. And studying Rizal, we will have a deeper understanding about him and much more about the history. 3.) I believe Dr. Jose Rizal is one of the greatest Filipino heroes and, I think he deserves to be considered as the national hero. He contributed a lot in the Philippines history, he fought for the Filipinos through his writings and novels but in a very influential way. I don’t think that it’s unfair for the other Philippines heroes as well, their bravery act fought for the freedom that is worthy of respect, honor and admiration. They fought for the country, for the Filipinos and not for the spot of being the national hero. But, despite from it, all of them did a noble act, and we should recognize and appreciate them all as the greatest. 4.) Yes. Balagtas (A06)

1. The most essential reason for studying Jose Rizal's life and works, in my opinion, is that it is mandated by law. Republic Act 1425, often known as the Rizal Law, requires teachers to teach about Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings. Senator Jose P. Laurel, the bill's sponsor, stated that because Rizal was the creator of Philippine nationalism and has made significant contributions to the country's present status, it is only appropriate that the young and all citizens learn about and internalize the noble principles for which he died. We don't have an option except to accept it. As a student, I discovered that we are the ones who would make things lovely and exciting and that we should find a way to appreciate things even when they are challenging. If we want to know more and are eager to explore more, it will become fascinating and pleasant. They are advocating for the passage of the Rizal Law because they want to celebrate Rizal's works and sacrifices, to reflect on ourselves, and to honor not just Rizal but also our heroes who died for the sake of our independence against the invaders. So, let us appreciate this topic and be glad that we will be able to realize how amazing our national hero truly is. 2. If I had to add one more reason why we should study his life and works, it would be "to better understand ourselves as Filipinos," since the past tells us about ourselves. We define ourselves not just by where we are going, but also by where we have been from. Surprisingly, the life of a great national historical figure such as Dr. Jose Rizal contributes much to shed more light on our collective experience and identity as Filipinos. The profound comprehension of the history provided by this topic will aid us in dealing with the present in a rational manner and also recognize the significance of Jose Rizal's beliefs and teachings in light of current social realities and events. 3. In my own opinion, Rizal is an American-sponsored hero because he advocated for nonviolent government transformation. Instead, he utilized his works to help Filipinos see the world through new eyes. Without hesitation, he committed his life to his compatriots. During their period in the country, the Americans determined he should be a national hero. According to history, the Americans, led by Civil Governor William Howard Taft, elected Jose Rizal to be the nation's hero as a stratagem. Rizal did not seek a violent revolution during his lifetime. As a result, they wanted him to be a "positive role model" to the Filipinos in order to prevent a revolution against the Americans. We all know that positive role models have an impact on our behaviors and inspire us to try to discover our full potential and overcome our weaknesses. They encourage us to make the most of our lives. And also, Rizal was designated a National Hero because he met the qualifications of a National Hero during the American period. I believe that Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he not only lived his life seeking equality and liberty for his people, but he died seeking his principles. Nothing a human being can do for you is more valuable than his own life in exchange for your freedom. 4. Yes. - Sebastian (A07)

(Tisalona, B43) 1. In my opinion, I don’t think it’s unfair, Since Jose Rizal is the one who inspired them and awoke them to the true status of our nation and the reality behind how the Spaniards were treated back then, I don't think it’s unfair for the other heroes of Rizal to receive the title of national hero. Dr. Jose Rizal was the one who guided them into realization. 2. For me, the most important reason would be “So the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation” Because its Jose Rizal legacy, I find it inspiring because he left behind something that we would remember until our future generations. And that’s the job of heroes they inspire people. 3. Another reason I would add on why we need to study his life and work is to cherish and remember his works since he inspired a lot of people there’s power coming from his letters, I think the main reason here was due to the fact he was a pacifist, I remembered these words from a book but when somebody who is peaceful every word holds power. 4. For me, I think we should not compare our heroes because they all made an impact on our nationality and the country we are currently living right now. If we were to compare it would be unfair because all of them are the best not just one. 5. I still see the impact of Rizal’s life in my generation due to the fact that we are still studying about him and a lot of people are intrigued about his story. 6. Yes

1.) In my opinion, the most important reason is that he inspired a revolution that sets us free because without the revolution that happen there is a possibility that we are a slave or under a leadership of other country. It is possible that we are tools of other country for their own good and agenda so I think this is the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is to give honor to our national hero and appreciate what happens in the past and will not be forgotten of younger generation today and the future generation. 2.) The additional reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is to continue to preserve the information and the important works of the national hero. The works of Jose Rizal will be forgotten and not appreciated if it will be not passed to the younger generation so it is important to study the life of Jose Rizal to understand and appreciate why we are free and able to pursue our dreams today. 3.) In my opinion, it is a little unfair to other heroes like Andres Bonifacio because they are also part of history that contributes why Filipinos are free to follow their dreams, they are equal they are all great heroes. However, I do consider that Jose Rizal is our National Hero because he is the one who is brave to make a first move to relay a message to Filipinos by his work, and his work makes the Filipinos inspired to fight for their rights. 4.) 1) The most important among five reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that how he inspired the revolution to set us free from the hands of Spaniards. Because among all of our national heroes who fought for our freedom against Spanish government, only Dr. Jose Rizal who did not use violence to fight back instead he used his connections among other Filipinos in the hierarchy and his knowledge on writing different context to open the eyes of our fellow Filipinos the cruelty of Spaniards against us Filipinos; at such length those are evidence that not only on violence our freedom can be granted. 2) Another reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is to know how courageous Jose Rizal is in order to communicate or to have communication among Filipinos around the country and to serve our country outright with the help of other Filipinos. This is our born-country it is well understandable to keep our land into ours and not belong to other races and make us people to be slave for them. Also, this enlighten us students that not only one could make us free and not Jose Rizal would be the only one who could fight the Spaniards but how some of Filipinos in his time are willing to help him to fight from the hands of Spanish government. 3) I do believe that Jose Rizal is the greatest hero among all the heroes and it is not unfair for other heroes who fight for our freedom. The reason for this is that his writings which still lives on and keeps being an eye opener and inspiration for every generation of what happen in the past; and all students have the right to study his works. Although let’s say that Americans have hidden agenda, maybe one of those agenda is their intentions against Spaniards and they really want to remain unfold the cruelty of the Spaniards against us Filipinos and other countries that they conquered or have war against them before. I do also believe that war is unnecessary and bloodshed is one way to have great hatred to each other and it only brings different misconception among other races from different countries. 4) Yes po. Erika D. Cervantes (A07) 1) There are many reasons as to why we must study the life and works of Rizal. Such as he is the father of the Filipino nation and he inspired the revolution that set free by utilizing his skills and intelligent giving birth to his very well-known novels such as the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. These two novels make the Filipino opened their eyes about the cruelty and how the Spaniards stole our freedom. Also, he was one of the first Filipino who unify the hearts of every Filipino in his era making him the father of the Filipino nation. this act of Dr. Jose Rizal also brings the spirit of nationalism to the hearts of the Filipino that up to this day the spirit he left for us is still there and will never be stolen again. 2) For me , I want to add to the reason as to why must study the life and works of Rizal is to educate the people of this country about the moral lesson that his life brought to us. The lesson that he left us, that we learned about. One of this lesson is that every people is different and every people has their own strength. In the present time our national hero was being questioned because of the fact that he didn’t fight physically with the enemy and that Emilio Aguinaldo must hold the the tittle as our national hero, but we must not forget that not all fight must be done with violence sometimes we must use our brains to fight and don’t just rush into violence. This lesson must be explained to the youth because we can all agree that the youth in the present era were much more into violence resulting in many cases of street fighting involving the youth. 3) I believe that Rizal is not the greatest but he was one of them. All of our national hero has a different trait and characteristics that is unique to them. I also believe that it isn’t unfair for the other heroes for him to hold the tittle as a national hero, why? Because Rizal used her brain intellect to boost the morale of the Filipino and to wake them up about the true nature of the Spaniards. This as to why the Filipinos chose to rise up and stand up against them lighting up the hearts of every Filipino that has been engulfed with fear and despair brought by the cruelty of the Spaniards. 4) Yes.

1. It is fair that Dr Jose Rizal was chosen as the greatest hero because the works in his books were all about the Filipino people becoming one and fighting for what is right. In the Spanish era, only those with power could live peacefully, and the powerless are weak Spaniards could do everything with them, as written in his books about the corruption of Spaniards by Filipino people. In the video, his works were not supposed to have war but open the eyes of the Filipinos to take the land back again to its original owner. The power of his writing has awakened many Filipino people, who act like swords to the Spaniards. Dr Jose Rizal is the greatest hero of all time because he united all the Filipinos in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to cooperate and know that the enemy was only the Spaniards. 2. The number 1, which we will have to say with the foreigners because our country, the Philippines, is now more popular with foreigners. Almost every holiday, like summer, many tourists come to the Philippines to explore and want to experience the life of living in-climate weather. There are also who like to know the history of the Philippines, and Dr Jose Rizal is the greatest hero who fought for freedom and gained back the respect of Filipino culture. The Filipino people can teach the foreigners who are Dr Jose Rizal, and the tourist spots are open to the public, which catches the attention who will come to our land, the Philippines. The Philippines is a strong country with the right to fight for freedom. It cannot be conquered again by foreigners because there will be like Dr Jose Rizal, who speaks the truth and fights for the Philippines' freedom. So foreigners are well knowledge who Dr Jose Rizal is and the country's capability to fight for their culture and freedom. 3. one more reason to study Dr Jose Rizal's life and his works is to be brave in life. Dr Jose Rizal is just a man who stands on his feet and knows that it would kill him to speak the truth in his workbooks. He still pursued to make what he started and could not stop until he finished. In life, people want to do things to make a change in their life, but sometimes they do not have the guts to be brave and will be criticized by other people for doing something different than normal. Studying his life and works can be a step forward to following Rizal's bravery and finishing what we started. We all people can be like him. The difference in the country would be massive and could change the life of everyone. Dr Jose Rizal is right that the next generation is the key to the future if everyone stands to the truth and is brave in what they do in life. 4. Dr Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino in the Philippines because he fought for what was right to free the Filipinos from the Spaniards. Dr Jose Rizal fought until the end, although he knew the fight against the Spaniards would be death. The truth must be heard in the eyes of the Filipino people; respect and freedom were not present during the colonialization because the Spaniards blinded the Filipino people in their way of living. They taught Spaniards were always right and that whoever spoke the truth would be beheaded or shot. Dr Jose Rizal is my role model and hero in my life. Whenever I am not pushing myself and being comfortable in my life, he always reminds me to fight for freedom in the things that I do. I must work hard to be free financially. Studying more so I can know more what is the truth out there because being curious about life gives meaning and the freedom to express oneself. Getting a degree like Dr. Jose Rizal's is my goal in Mechanical engineering. 5. Yes, The impact of Dr Jose Rizal impacted the generation today because many teenagers like me are eager to pursue their dreams to make a difference in the country. Many of my friends are pursuing college degrees because we all want a degree to help and contribute to society. The generation nowadays has many wants and group which supports one another because it is hard to do it alone, especially when you are just starting like when I played golf during grade 10, I was very bad at it and could not swing the club, but my friends help to play and teach me the basics. I pursue golf because my friends help me, then practice and practice again. Five years later, I am good at golf and can play with my friends. Being open-minded to lessons in life can improve life, accept mistakes and not be close-minded. 6. Yes Llegado, B43

1. Out of the five reasons discussed why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal, I think the most important reason is that he inspired the revolution that set us free. The Philippine Revolution is one of the best and most remarkable things that happened in our history. Not only that it was the main reason why we attained our independence, but also because, at countless moments, it brought our whole country together. Through him, our countrymen had the hope and courage to fight and dedicate their lives to the country's freedom. Even Dr. Jose Rizal himself dedicated his last breath to fighting for the independence of the country. 2. If I were going to add another reason why we need to study Dr. Jose Rizal’s life and works, it would be because he and his works awakened Filipino nationalism. His love and loyalty for the country can be seen through his works and ideals. He used one of his biggest strengths, writing, to open the eyes of Filipinos in a peaceful but powerful way. His novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo played a major role in how Filipinos realized that we have to resist colonialism and tyranny, fight for our rights, and to claim the independence of the Philippines. 3. I believe every Filipino hero who fought for our country is a great hero, and they all have their different strengths and influences in our nation. Remarkable heroes such as Andres Bonifacio, Melchora Aquino, and even Emilio Aguinaldo hold a position in Philippine history. However, out of these great Philippine Heroes, Dr. Jose Rizal has the most significant influence in the Filipino nation. He is the reason why we refer to ourselves as Filipinos. As stated in the video, Dr. Jose Rizal even inspired Andres Bonifacio and the other members of the Katipunan to revolutionize. He was one of the biggest advocates of equal rights for Filipinos. Even after his death, his legacy and ideals still live in the heart of every Filipino. 4. Yes Submitted by: Collado (A01)

Lara(A07) 1.For me, out of five reasons why we need to study Jose Rizal life and his works the most important reason is the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and it will continue to the next generation. This reason is the most important reason because the legacy of Jose Rizal will continue forever. This symbolizes on how important Jose Rizal in the Philippines is. When we get older, we may use this knowledge to answer the questions of our children and grandchildren about the life and works of Jose Rizal. Having knowledge and background of Jose Rizal is also a part of being a Filipino. Lara(A07) 2.The reason that I may add on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that to expand our knowledge about Jose Rizal. During elementary and high school, we have a few knowledge about Jose Rizal. With the help of this reason, we may deeply learn the life of our national hero to expand our learnings. For example, we can learn the contribution of Jose Rizal in our country, what was his life, and many more. Jose Rizal is very important to the Philippines and every Filipino and that is why we need to learn his life and works since it also serves as an inspiration. Lara(A07) 3.I think it was fair for the other heroes to chose Rizal as the greatest hero. Other heroes, such as Andres Bonifacio, was inspired in the works of Jose Rizal like the famous novel Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. I believe that Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he is an inspiration to every Filipino and other heroes. Jose Rizal has a big impact to the Philippines and to everyone else. He is also well known to different countries such as Spain because he studied medicine in Universidad Central de Madrid. Jose Rizal is undeniably the greatest hero in the Philippines. Lara(A07) 4. 1.For me, the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that Rizal inspired the revolution that set us free. Rizal is known for his compassion for the Filipinos. His famous novels " Noli Me Tangere " and " El Filibusterismo " are about exposing the wrongdoings and injustice of the Spanish government. He inspired Andres Bonafacio through novels in planning a revolution and as his works spread, More Filipinos have read his novels that are mostly about freedom and Rights and that's how the famous 2 novels of Rizal took part in the Philippine Revolution. 2.Rizal will inspire us to think differently Because we all know that he fought the Spanish Colonial Government by writing novels about the injustice and wrongdoings of the Spanish and exposing them to the Filipinos. For me, It will inspire us also to fight depending on how we will handle or act about the situation. It will inspire us to fight for something dear to us by not committing wrongdoings. Because of his love for the Filipinos, he was executed for pursuing peace in a peaceful manner and to be remembered as a National Hero, Memorials and statues were built not only in the Philippines but also in different countries. 3.In my opinion, there are many great Filipino heroes and Jose Rizal can still be called one of them. Jose Rizal has a remarkable intelligence in studying and because of his love for studying he graduated in his class outstanding. He finished his course as pre-law but when Rizal figured out that his mother was about to go blind he switched to a medical school specializing in Opthalmology. He was a poet, a playwright, a novelist, an essayist, a painter, a sculptor, a social historian, an inventor, a scientist, an ophthalmologist, and lastly a nationalist. Jose Rizal has many sacrifices for his greatest love for the Filipinos and fought the Spanish government for their freedom that's why he is one of the greatest national heroes. 4.Yes. Ladrido A01

1.) Among from those reasons mentioned in the lecture video, I think the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is he inspired the revolution to set us free. If not for him we would not have our identity and we are still under the hands and ruled by the Spaniards. Although his famous novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Dr. Jose Rizal didn’t intend to start a revolution but it became the spark of it after Andres Bonifacio read it. It ignites Andres Bonifacio’s will to free our country especially the people from the Spaniards who rule for over 333 years. 2.) If I’m going to add one more reason why we need to study his life and works, it would be to obtain or acquire inspiring patriotism and know the true meaning of freedom and nationalism that we can get from his life and works that would help young people which are the youth to be devoted to our country and always remind them what they have been through and all the people who sacrifice their lives for our freedom. Be interested and involved in the countries issue just like in choosing the next president for our country. Just like what Dr. Jose Rizal’s famous quote which is “Ang Kabataan ang Pag-asa ng bayan” youth must prove that Jose Rizal is right and what did they did for us his fellow Filipino and for our countries future must not be neglected. 3.) For me it is fair for other heroes to chose Dr. Jose Rizal as the greatest hero because after all he is the one who gives the idea to fight for their freedom, although it is not his real intention from his novel to start a revolution but it ignites Andres Bonifacio and awake his spirit to fight and start a revolution. Maybe because Jose Rizal is known to be intellectual and have the knowledge to think of a plan and became the eye opener for the Filipinos to fight back in the Spaniards. Americans considered him a hero maybe because they think Rizal can help them to convince Filipinos to fight for their liberty and because Jose Rizal prefer peace talk than war it is easier for them to talk and understand each conditions to win over the Spaniards. 4.) (SARCEPUEDES, B43) 1. Many would think it is unfair that Rizal was made our country’s national hero out of the famous hero candidates. But for the Americans, he was the most ideal candidate for the values that they sought to promote, particularly pacifism. Although this was a scheme created by the Americans to win the Filipino’s heart by giving them a hero figure or symbol, it mainly benefited the Filipino people as Rizal was the creator of the spark of the revolution. His novels awakened the hearts and minds of the Filipinos to find courage to end the Spanish oppression. As mentioned in the lecture, the Father of the Philippine Revolution, Andres Bonifacio read Rizal’s works and it inspired him to plan and lead a revolution against the Spanish. I believe this is what made him standout as a candidate as a hero figure or symbol. Rizal advocated for political evolution while Andres strived for revolution. However in my opinion, both were equally brave and have earned my respect for their encouragement in ending the Spanish oppression in their own ways. 2. All of the five reasons on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal are valid and important. However, I believe that the fifth reason is the most important: So that the spirit of Nationalism will live on. Especially in this generation, most of the youth tend to strive away from nationalism. It is important that the youth learn and understand the works of Rizal on a deeper depth and to learn from the impact that the Spaniards made to the Filipino people during the reign in our country. We should be inspired by how his writings provoked the nationalism of the Filipinos and awakened their hope and courage to fight and end the Spanish oppression and gain back their freedom. Furthermore, we should instill the lessons and values he passed onto us and apply it to our everyday lives for his works are still relevant to this day as he advocates for political evolution. It is vital that us youths should prove Rizal is right with his words; “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan.”. Therefore, I agree that by studying the life and works of Rizal, it will continue the spirit of nationalism to live on us and onto the next generation. 3. If I were to add one more reason on why we need to study Rizal’s life and works, it would be that “His novels are relevant to every generation.”. Rizal is a pacifist, he advocates for political evolution instead of revolution. Especially in this generation, resorting to violence is not one of the options when trying to solve a problem and almost everyone is practicing liberty and democracy. His way of awakening the Filipino’s mind, heart and igniting their hope and courage with a pen and paper is truly inspiring. Furthermore, everything we do and say is political. His narratives will always be relevant and similar to our political situations. The lessons and values he has created in his works will forever live on and be applied to endless generations. Rizal’s life and his works will always be important to learn and understand from the mistakes that our previous leaders made that led to our country being in the hands of the colonizers. 4. Although there are alot of great Filipino heroes to date, I believe that Rizal is the greatest. His life and works have created significant impact towards the minds and heart of the Filipino people. Not only did he do several historical acts through his writing of his novels to let the Filipinos reclaim their homeland, he also inspired the minds and hearts of the Filipinos to realize the wrongdoings of the Spanish and their brutal treatment of their fellow Filipinos. Furthermore, he did not want to resort to bloodshed by starting a war with the Spanish, he instead fought with a pen and paper to educate the Filipinos and fed their minds with knowledge and wisdom on how they could fight back with their intelligence so they would not be called “Indios (Stupid)” anymore. He wanted to create a significant impact to the minds of the Filipinos that they have a mind of their own and they are not their slaves anymore that they could manipulate according to their will. 5. In my opinion, Rizal’s life has had quite an impact in my generation. Especially during the last presidential election, the majority of the youth has exercised their nationalism and patriotism for the future of our country. It was a moving movement to witness and to be able to be part of that movement was actually life-changing. I can now clearly see how a person is based on their political opinions and choices and how it would potentially affect the next generations. However, in general, I have observed that our youth our age has not fully acknowledged and taken the works of Rizal to heart and apply it in their everyday lives. They would not take this course seriously and would just take it to pass their degree as it is mandated by law. Although it is quite saddening, I understand that taking a college degree is to prepare them for the practicality of their future career, rather than learning the life and works of Rizal as it would not apply to their work. 6. 1. The most important reason for studying Dr. Jose Rizal's life and works, in my opinion, is so we will have something to say to foreigners or people who have no knowledge of Dr. Jose Rizal. I believe that this is the most important because it also accommodates the other reasons. In the Philippines, it is mandated by the law, Republic Act 1425, that all college students must take up a Rizal course. However, not all Filipinos are given the privilege to attend a college school. Therefore, explaining to other Filipinos why Rizal is the father of the Filipino nation and how he inspired the revolution that set us free, our sense of nationalism lives on. We should always answer with pride of being a Filipino whenever anyone, foreigner or not, questions us about who Dr. Jose Rizal is. 2. I believe that the five reasons already summarized why we need to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal. However, if I had to add another reason, it would be so that we may actively participate in social and national issues in the Philippines, like Jose Rizal did. Dr. Jose Rizal always had a say in the things that was happening during his time. He did not turn a blind eye in the sufferings of the Filipino, and he wrote novels that later sparked the revolution that established our freedom. I believe that studying the life and work of Rizal will help us become active in participating in national and social issues in the Philippines because Rizal taught us to fight for what is right for our country. 3. I do not think that it was unfair for other national heroes to chose Rizal as the greatest of them all. I think that each of our national heroes contributed in the freedom and rights that our country is experiencing today. Our national heroes sacrificed themselves for our country through the use of violence and war. However, Dr. Jose Rizal was different. He used his knowledge and works to fight for our country. Those works were the catalyst for the freedom that we are enjoying right now. I believe that Dr. Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because he did not just fight for our freedom through his work, his ideals and contribution to the Philippines also greatly shaped who Filipinos are today. 4. 1. For me, it is mandated by the law, this is significant because it serves as a framework for what is considered acceptable in society. If it didn't exist, there would be disagreements between social groups and communities. We must stick with them. The law makes it simple to adapt to societal developments, especially studying the life of Rizal was against the will of the Catholic Church; therefore, the law intensified the importance of Rizal. The Rizal Law, or Republic Act 1425, mandates the teaching of Jose Rizal's life, works, and writings. Senator Jose P. Laurel, the law's sponsor, stated that because Rizal was the founder of Philippine nationalism and made significant contributions to the country's status, it is only right that the youth, as well as the rest of the country, learn about and absorb the noble ideals for which he died. The Rizal Law, passed in 1956, aims to achieve this most important goal, which is to recommit the lives of young people to the values of liberty and nationalism for which our forefathers fought, or heroes and died. People's emancipation from false awareness and restrictive ideologies, as well as learning to cherish and love their nation, dignity, righteousness, honor, and dignity to the point that they will die to maintain this liberty, are all part of Rizal's definition of liberty. 2. Another reason for me why we should study the life of Rizal is to honor our national hero, for dedicating his life and labor to forming the Filipino character. Every Filipino could find an inspirational source of patriotism by studying Rizal's life, activities, and writings. Rizal is a great example of a patriot. A patriot is someone who fervently believes in their nation and is willing to protect it against opponents or critics, which the country needs more to shield our motherland from colonizers because we do not want to repeat the dark side of our history. Therefore, learning about his life is essential to every Filipino’s insurgence of patriotism. 3. For me, it is unjust to call him the “Greatest Filipino Hero”. Although we appreciate and embody the heroes of Rizal for our country, I want him to call as one of the Greatest Filipino Heroes, since there are other historical heroic Filipinos, we want to be acknowledged, like Bonifacio, Mabini, Luna, etc. and, especially our OFWs or the Overseas Filipino Workers, I consider them our present heroes. 4. 1) -So we will have something to say to the foreigners. -He is the Father of the Filipino Nation. -He inspired the Revolution that set us free. -It is a mandated by law. -So the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation. For me, the most important reason on why we need to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal is a toss up between him being the Father of the Filipino Nation and Him being the inspiration of the Revolution that set us free. It is hard to pick between the two because of the reason that the other 3 will not exist if Dr. Jose Rizal didn't made the archipelago of the Philippines one nation and him not inspiring other national heroes on a revolution. He made us realize that just by looking at a picture of him how impactful he has been to every Filipino. 2) The reason that I will be adding up to these 5 is connected to reason number 4, mandated by law, is that we need to help younger generations to absorb all the things Dr. Jose Rizal has done to our country and to our countrymen. We all know that these younger generations are so hooked up to modern technologies and social medias that they tend to look past books and novels that build them of how they are leaving at the moment, freely. This reason is not as mandatory as the fourth reason but it can help as much to the kids that don't know anything about the works of Dr. Rizal, or even don't know who Dr. Jose Rizal is. 3) Dr. Jose Rizal being a pacifist has a fair share on why he was proclaimed as the national here of the Philippines. I think it is a tad bit unfair to the other heroes but at the same time he is one of many that became a hero because of his brains and not because of his grit. In the end of the day, even the other heroes consider Dr. Jose Rizal as the greatest because he has done things to our countrymen that other heroes don't and that is to inspire, to inspire Filipinos to be courageous in any form or way. 4) Yes. Brillo, Ma. Cutchie B. A07 1. I think the most important reason why we should study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that he is the one who inspired the Filipinos to revolution by writing the novel Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. He gave us a reason why we should fight for our freedom and to break the Spaniard governance in our country. He also highlighted the Spanish administration's flaws, but he was unable to expel Spaniards from the islands. His work Noli Me Tangere, in particular, revealed the corruption of Manila society and fueled the independence movement. The public execution of Rizal on December 30, 1896, incensed and unified Filipinos to such an extent that Spain's continued rule was manifestly untenable. 2. If I could add one more reasons why we should study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, it is to honor our national hero for dedicating his life and work to forming the Filipino character. He devoted his life to liberating us from the Spaniards' grasp, and we must recognize him for his bravery in exposing the Spaniards' incompetence and corrupt governance. He might be a soldier who goes to battle to defend his nation, but he is a wise man who can inspire Filipinos to fight using only his literary talents. Rizal distinguished himself from other demonstrators by being composed, well-educated, intellectual, charming, and well-liked by the general public. These qualities define a natural leader, and Rizal possessed them all. It implies that he may conduct a thorough investigation of leadership styles. He was a warrior who didn't need to fight, and his battle against 3. I think all Filipino heroes are just equal. They all fought and gave their lives so that we could get away from the conquest of other countries and enjoy the freedom we feel until now. He is not the hero in the war, but his writing skills have given us the strength and motivation to fight for our freedom. The Americans wanted Dr. Jose Rizal to be a national hero, but the American government in the Philippines did not make this decision without a convincing rationale. They regarded Rizal as the most excellent match for the quality they intended to promote, which mainly was pacifism. Dr. Jose Rizal was a pacifist who preferred progress over revolt. In truth, he passionately opposed Andres Bonifacio's bloody revolution, as history has proved. 4. Yes

1. For me, the most important in the five reasons on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is number 5 which is 'So the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation'. Why? Because we all know that Jose Rizal is our national hero and his story is very special to us Filipinos because he sacrificed himself for the sake of the future Filipinos and that is us. Studying his story will inspire us from being a Filipino and his story will be one of the reasons why you love Philippines. 2. If I were to add one of the reasons why we should study Rizal's life and works, it will be his personal story. He focuses on his family, and especially on his studies. He learned multiple languages, studied medicine in Manila, and traveled to Spain in order to complete his medical degree. We can also say that his personal relationships can also affects us, on how he manage to be in a relationship while studying and while working hard for his family. Until the day comes that he sacrificed himself for the sake of the Filipinos because he knew that the future generation will be better if he sacrifices himself. 3. I like Jose Rizal as our national hero but I think Andres Bonifacio deserves being a national hero because he helped the Philippines break free from Spanish colonial rule and he is the father of Revolution. He handled Philippines and fight in order to gain independence from Spain. I am saying this because I am not against Jose Rizal. I truly admire him from being our national hero. He suffered for the sake of the Philippines. It is just that I acknowledge Andres Bonifacio more than Jose Rizal. 4. Yes. Ligutan (A06)

Because when Dr. Jose Rizal wrote Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Filipinos were inspired and realized the truth, inspiring them to start a revolution. If I were to add one more reason, it's "Father of all Filipinos," because without Rizal's sacrifices, we would not be where we are now as Filipinos. Dy (A07) 1.) One of the five reasons that I think the most important on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is "He inspired the Revolution that Set Us Free." Without Jose Rizal's novels/writings, I don't think the revolution would spark. His revolutionary novels gave birth to Asia's first democratic republic. One of his works, Noli Me Tángere, revealed the Spaniard's corruption and fueled the independence movement. Because of that, By 1892, it was clear that Spain was hesitant to modernize its colonial administration. Even Andres Bonifacio, one of the national heroes in our country, inspired him from those novels/writings to plot a revolution. 2.) If I were to add the reasons to study the life and works of Rizal, then it would be "he said that violent revolution was unthinkable, foolish, and terrible." Jose Rizal is a known pacifist, eventually making him recognized as a national hero by the Americans. He doesn't at all anticipate that violence will be used to resolve the conflict with Spain. He made us realize that fighting violently would not make the world better. He opposed the revolution as he believed that successful improvements should originate from above. Logically, the hero believed this because that was the view of the ruling class, which Rizal belonged to. 3.) The American colonizers saw Rizal as a hero in part because, unlike others whose beliefs may incite rebellion against American power, he was seen as representing peaceful political activism. To answer the question of whether it is unfair or not, I would say not unfair. Because of his tremendous achievements in our country, Jose Rizal is considered a national hero. By history books and history topics, he has always been recognized as a martyr and nationalistic guy who gave his life for our own country. People would say he isn't the greatest hero we ever had, because there are other heroes like Heneral Luna and Andres Bonifacio, who also sacrificed for their own country. But without Rizal, his thoughts inspired repressed people to yearn for true freedom and respect as a nation would be non-existent. His killing ignited the flames of revolution that'd inevitably overthrow one of the world's most powerful imperial empires and give birth to Asia's first democratic republic. 4.) Yes

1. The most important reason why we should study the life and works of Jose Rizal in my opinion is the last reason: “So the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation”. This is because one of the main goals of Jose Rizal is to let us recognize in ourselves that we are Filipinos; that we must be proud that we are Filipinos and we must be proud of our country. By loving our country, we can influence other fellow Filipinos to love our country more as well, and this will keep passing on to other people: to children and grandchildren alike. And in the future, there will be more Filipinos, and if possible, all Filipinos will become passionate and love their nation more. 2. Adding one more reason as to why we need to study the life and works of Rizal, it would be to appreciate and pay tribute to Jose Rizal himself for being a hero who devoted and sacrificed his life for the country. We should dedicate our lives to his patriotism and pay respects to what he has done that shaped our country to what it is today; without him, there is a possibility that the Philippines is still colonized by Spain and we would not have the freedom that we have today. And in the coming future, we can use him as an example of being a patriotic citizen whenever our country needs it. 3. I do not think that it is unfair for other heroes because they had also been recognized by the Filipinos today. They are still part of our history books, and they will not be forgotten for what they have done for our country. There are just certain reasons as to why they had not been chosen to become the national hero of our country. I do believe that Jose Rizal is that greatest Filipino hero because he saved the country from the Spaniards through pacifistic means, although I also believe that Andres Bonifacio is the leader that saved our country as well but through war and revolution. 4.Yes Puntanar (A06)

1. The most significant reason for studying Jose Rizal's life and achievements, in my opinion, is because "He is the Father of the Filipino Nation." Because he taught all of the natives of our archipelago that we are all Filipinos and that we are one nation, which was not the natives' belief before his time. Jose Rizal revolutionized things, even arguing that the title "Filipino" should only be applied to inhabitants of the islands, not to Spaniards born there. Rizal made the many regions of the Philippines recognize that they are all Filipinos, despite their diverse dialects and traditions, and that they are all part of one great country. We would not be called Filipinos and we would not recognize that we are part of one enormous family, one race, and one nation if Rizal had not taken the initiative to change things. 2. If I had to add one more reason why we should study his life and works, I would say that "we can learn a lot from how he handled situations in the past and apply it to the present." Because understanding his life and works can provide us with a wealth of ideas that we can apply to present social and personal situations. It can assist us in resolving current difficulties by providing several techniques and assisting us in applying them to current social and personal challenges or issues. That is why Jose Rizal’s life and works must be studied. 3. I think it was not unfair for the other heroes that those who chose Rizal had their own agenda in making him as the greatest of them all, yes because a hero is a person who represents goodness. 4. Yes. Firme (A07)

I think the most important reason why we need to study rizal is because it is mandated by the law. Because honestly I think that some of the students would not be interested to study the life of Rizal if it is not mandatory. Aside from that, I think that it is a noble act by the government to preserve the memories of rizal. By incorporating Rizal in the curriculum of the students. Because as we all know the first priority of a young child of the Philippines is to study. As for the college students of the Philippines, I think this would ignite a sense of nationalism in their hearts. 2. If i was going to add a reason why we need to study the life of rizal i think it would be for the reason of inspiring the young generation and make them understand that just like they can be anything that they want to be. Furthermore by studying the life of rizal we can show that anyone that wants to fight for the philippines doesn’t need a gun or any weapon of some sort to do so. By inspiring the younger generation I think it would help our nation in the future. Because by inspiring the younger generation we can ignite a fire in their hearts that in the future can make them great leaders or citizen of the philippines 3.I don't really know how to answer this question. But in my opinion the issue is not whether rizal should be our national hero and not the other remarkable filipinos that also did noble things for the philippines, I think the most important question that should be asked is why are we not putting as much attention to our other heroes as we do on Rizal. Because in my opinion every effort of every single one of our heroes should be acknowledged. I believe that instead of the life of Rizal we could just study the life of our heroes, by putting snippets of the life of our other heroes. 4.Yes Marucot A01

1.) Agenda or no agenda, I think all of the appointed Filipino heroes earned their titles rightfully through their heroic deeds. It may have been unfair in terms of what they have contributed as their are heroes that literally sacrificed themselves in the middle of the battle. However, Jose Rizal chose to stand up for his country instead of taking his chances to seek refuge in other countries he has been. He was able to contribute to the revolution through his words and became the figure of pride and patriotism for the Katipuneros. He chose to endanger himself to help his nation, and even if he was executed for being accused of the rebellion, his pacifist way of inspiration lived on and fueled the Filipinos even more. I think every heroes deserved the recognition and shouldn't be invalidated out of the blue. I think making Jose Rizal the Philippine national hero maintained the nationalism and pride in ourselves, therefore, the greatest hero to unite Filipinos. 2.) I think all of the big reasons are important, but if I were to choose one, it would be the fifth reason: "so the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation." This reason encompasses the true reason as to why we study the life and works of Jose Rizal. He was and is still symbolic for many traits that we should learn ourselves. One of which is nationalism. Knowing what our country stands for roots to what our Filipino heroes has accomplished. Jose Rizal stayed true to his country and died a hero. Learning to appreciate and embody our history means cherishing our nation, being a true Filipino. It should be an initiative to study our history, not just so we can impress or inform tourists, but to be proud. Especially nowadays, there have been waves of globalization and cultures tolerated in our country, but to have the spirit of nationalism with us will help us keep the Philippines united and proud to our own culture and history. 3.) In relation to my answer from the previous question, our country's youth have been bombarded and prsuaded with several foreign cultures through globalization, which is inevitable for us as a developing country. The advancement of technology further blurs the past. This is why I would suggest a reason why we should study the life and works of Jose Rizal to make the youth more involved, more motivated and curious about our greatest history. It is important to keep them attached to their own country and not grow up without familiarizing who the statues resembles in museums. Knowing these formidable and heroic figures may serve as their role models, or to add insights to their opinions on family, life, and politics. These heroes can give them further knowledge on how to conduct life and work, as well as to keep faith in everyone and the Philippines. There are only us who we can rely on to keep our heritage going through many generations. 4.) I truly think that Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero, and this is stated without invalidating other Filipino heroes. All of these heroes have earned their titles through their sacrifices and bravery. However, the reasons as to why I think Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero are his lingering works of literature, his undying symbol of nationalism, and a prominent figure as everyone's role model. We all know and love his literary works, which gave his clear ideas of what it was like in the Philippines before the revolution. His life's work are with greatest significance and contribution to our history that we must learn. Rizal is also a hero that we may look up to as a proud Filipino. To teach ourselves to love our country and its people. The youth and many generation to come should learn about Jose Rizal to gain some knowledge about life and conduct, and as an inspiration to work on our dreams as a proud Filipino willing to let our country be recognized. 5.) In my current undertaking of this course, knowing the reasons why it is important to keep up and study the life and works of Jose Rizal relived the nationalism in me. I think the current generation is deviating from what was traditionally done, as if they are failing to keep true to our country and heavily rely on foreign cultures. However, I do think it's part of innovation to let these changes occur, but to be able to look back our past may help them realize what I have felt. I've always thought that Jose Rizal is like the only hero in the world, and no one from other country can come at par with him. I think if we kept encouraging the new generations to take a glimpse of the past through Rizal's works, then maybe they will feel as proud as I was to be a Filipino. No matter how untangled life, morals, and politics, learning from the past would surely impact the present. 6.) Yes. Francia B43

1. The most important reason among the five stated in the video why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is because “he was one of the main reasons on how the Philippine Revolution started”. On how his two famous novels (Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo) encouraged Andres Bonifacio who later became the “Father of Philippine Revolution” to fight against the Spaniards that conquered us for several hundreds of years. The first novel Noli Me Tangere exposed the corruption and brutality of the Spanish rules. Meanwhile, the second novel El Filibusterismo recognized his reputation as the leading representative of the Philippine reform movement. Also, some reason is on how he became a hero without using violence, and how he sacrificed his life for our country. 2. For me, one additional reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that he contributed several publications and literary works to Philippine History. Except for his two famous novels, Jose Rizal wrote other publications while staying in different countries and while in his prison cell. He used his knowledge to write several works that later became part of our history. One of Rizal's writings is the poem “Mi Ultimo Adios” which tells how he the Filipinos to see how beautiful the Philippines is. He wrote it in his prison cell and later one of the last notes he wrote before his death. 3. I do not think it was unfair for the other heroes to be called Rizal a national hero by the Americans given the fact that they conquered our country after the Spaniards. Rizal has many qualifications to be called a national hero. He motivated other heroes through his works which later started the revolution. Also, he used his knowledge to influence, educate, and write various publications which later contributed to our history. Aside from this, he has many professions such as poet, ophthalmologist, novelist, painter, etc. For me, I believe that Rizal is one of the great Filipino heroes and not the greatest because other Philippine heroes are great in their fields. Having the title of greatest hero is a huge title and it is like giving a title to the best president. As the year passed by, we will elect different presidents and we cannot proclaim others as the best because they have their expertise, pros and cons. 4. Yes Herrera (A07)

1.Jose Rizal is one of the greatest Filipino who contributed to the freedom of this nation and country has on this day, This is by the reason it is important that his name shall be known in an appropriate manner. For me, the most important reason among the five reasons is the he inspired the revolution that set us free, It takes courage to lead a group, especially a great nation, This work by Rizal shall be studied further by all generations to be knowledgeable on how we are lead to this freedom, and we shall appreciate history more and take look on what happened in the past. 2.Truly, Doctor Jose Rizal's works are indeed a work of art while using his skill and talent with being nationalistic to fight for the freedom of the country's nation.Another reason that i'm thinking to add on why we should study his life and works,is to inspired the next generation,we might not be in wars like country to country like we used to, but we should be inspired on how we fight for out individual wars like anxiety and daily challenges in life. The works of Rizal are inspiring that we can apply it not only for freedom but for passion on what we strive in life,This could be a great factor on boosting motivation towards goals of students. 3.In my honest opinion, the picking of the greatest hero of our country and in a way biased or unfair since there's a factor the according to the statement that Jose Rizal is an american-sponsored hero. With that being said, It does not make Jose Rizal less of a great hero of this nation andd country,It's just that everyone, with the others fought equally for the freedom of our country,For me, the other Filipinos should have equal recognition like Jose Rizal for they deserve to be known and to inspired all generations. 4.yes Sarmiento (A01)

For me the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is so the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generations to come. Rizal is the national hero of the Philippines. He was very passionate about fighting for the Philippines and he fought for our freedom in a peaceful but powerful way instead of fighting through blood, war and violence. Jose Rizal is a very amazing and compassionate person and his life and works should never be forgotten and stay within us forever and for the future generations to come. If I was going to add one more reason why we need to study Jose Rizal's life and works It is: we can learn how to fight in a more peaceful way for our country in case what happened in Rizal's time happened again. We can learn so much about Rizal's life and apply it to our life. Jose Rizal chose to have a silent war and not a bloody war and it can help us in the future in case a war happened again. I don't think it was unfair for the other heroes that Jose Rizal is our greatest hero. Him being a pacifist actually helped him fight for our freedom in a silent but powerful way through his writings which enlightened a lot of Filipino people. The other heroes fought with blood, war, and violence which caused a lot of lives lost. But I don't think that is bad because the other heroes fought for our country and it helped us gain the freedom that we have right now and I also look up to them as much as I look up to Jose Rizal but Jose Rizal fought in a more peaceful way. That is why I believe that Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero. Yes. CABATAC (A07)

1. First of all, there should be no greater or less between heroes, because all heroes fought for our country but in different ways. One is Lapu-Lapu, who is a mighty hero that used his bravery and excellent combat skills to fight. Hence, they are all the greatest in the eyes of a true Filipino. But in this case, I believe that it is unfair for the other heroes because the decision was not clean, the choosing of Rizal as the National Hero had a touch of hidden intents by the Americans. Jose Rizal was chosen so that the Filipinos remain under control by the Americans, thus, no freedom. In my opinion, it is better to choose a national hero that will be remembered for what he has done for the country and can be the face of the history of the Philippines, BUT, it should not conesist of any hidden agenda to preserve its honor. 2. The reason that I find the most important is how Rizal inspired the revolution that set us free. This reason consists of his brilliant novels such as Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. Our country went through dark times and a lot of Filipinos suffered in the hands of our colonizers. Without the spark of revolution, nothing will change and so this is something that should be given attention to. We also wouldn't be where we are right now if it weren't for Rizal. Even without the intention of starting a revolution, Jose Rizal did it with his brilliant mind and moved thousands of people. Inspiration is something that every Filipino should have, it is what's keeping their Filipino spirit alive and burning. If everyone in the country is aware of the revolution that happened many years ago, then everyone will care about the country and will appreciate the freedom that is available right now. The Philippines has always have its own torch, they just needed someone to ignite it and it was Jose Rizal that did it. 3. In my opinion, another good reason to add is to honor the sacrifice of Jose Rizal and pay respect to our National Hero. He was indeed our National Hero due to his unique way of fighting for the country. In a world full of bullets, guns, and blades, Rizal went for pen and paper. Having a course of The Life and Works of Jose Rizal will enable us Filipinos to not only remember him but also to show appreciation for what he has done for the country. This reason is connected to the reason of "so the spirit of Nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation," because by showing appreciation to the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, it could also indirectly keep the Nationalism spirit alive. This is important because there will be future generations that will run the country and they should be reminded of our history. Rizal's efforts and masterpieces deserve recognition across the country, it is something that should not just be stored in history files. 4. I am all out support in Jose Rizal as our national hero, but I believe that there is no such thing as "greatest" when it comes to being a hero of the country. Indeed, Jose Rizal is one of the great heroes, but not the "greatest". In my opinion, all heroes are great in their own way. They all did something for the country whether it be small or big. Sacrifices were made, blood and tears were offered. It is no doubt of the reasons that make Jose Rizal as a great hero. Noli me Tangere and El Filibusterismo are just a few of his creative works, and they are a proof of how powerful Jose Rizal is with just a pen and paper. Heroes have their own strengths; the writing skills of Rizal, battle brain of Antonio Luna, and the leadership of Andres Bonifaco. 5. Yes, one good example that can prove it is how almost everyone in my generation knows of the saying "Ang Kabataan ang Pag-Asa ng Bayan." This saying is commonly used in speeches. I believe that some people truly attach that saying to their hearts and put it into practice. There are a lot of talented and skilled Filipinos in my generation such as future doctors, lawyers, engineers, politicians. People in my generation are hungry for education to serve not only ourselves but also the country because we are the "Pag-Asa ng bayan." Our generation would gladly follow Jose Rizal's footsteps in a way that we strive for education for the good of all. Our national hero has a heavy influence on my generation's nationalism, his principles affect our way of thinking and we apply it to our everyday life. Our Filipino spirit is always awake when it comes to politics, and I think that Jose Rizal has some influence to it. 6. YES RIVERA (A18)

1) For me, the most important reason on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is so that our nationalism will live on. The nationalism that set us free from all those years of foreign occupation, The nationalism of all those who sacrificed their lives for our country. The nationalism that gives us our cultural identity as an individual of our country, which can be passed on for the future and many more generations to come. I think that is a very good reason indeed. 2) If I were too add another reason for studying Jose Rizal's life and works, it is for the "preservation of our actual history". Jose Rizal being the icon that he is, holds a chunk of our country's history within his entire lifetime. To preserve such important details on the events back then is very beneficial not only for the country's history but also for the people's future. As the saying said, "history repeat can repeat itself" and with the proper knowledge history, we are less likely to repeat the negatives and instead learn and prosper from the positives. 3) I do disagree about Jose Rizal being the greatest Filipino hero that our country has to offer way back then and that it is kind of unfair for the other heroes. People like Andres Bonifacio, Emilio Aguinaldo, Marcelo del Pilar, Melchora Aquino, Antonio Luna, and many more played a huge role as well for our country no matter how big or small it is. I do however, acknowledge that setting one person as "National Hero" makes learning history easier to digest. That being said, I still appreciate Jose Rizal's accomplishments and all he had done for our country. 4) yes Dioneda (A07)

1, No, I think that it is not unfair for Rizal since for me he is the best Filipino hero. there are things that are said that if Andres Bonifacio is considered the nation hero of the Philippines the Katipunan of his will only revolutionize more because its his way of showing how he fights and loves the country so it is only common for his members to have a fire in there heart to fight in what they believe is right. in the other hand since Jose Rizal said that he gave a light to all of the Filipinos. and his excellency to being smart, brave and his love for the country I think Jose Rizal was the greatest of them all. they said other heroes want to win their battle but Jose Rizal want to win the war. 2, we should value his efforts to live a meaningful lives when he was still living. he demonstrated his daring by penning his well known books not to amuse his readers but to educate other Filipinos and upend the peaceable Spaniards of his day. in my opinion , the final justification for studying the life and works of Jose Rizal and the most important in the five reasons, "the spirit of nationalism lives on in us and the next generation" is the most crucial. academics ought to study Rizal's life and works in depth rather than just superficially we must be aware that as we continue to study Jose Rizal's life and works, our sense of nationalism will develop. to express his love and gratitude for the tradition and culture of our nation, he spent a lot of time making his masterpiece additionally he created these work in order to impart them to us readers, so we might keep learning about and loving our nation as a whole. 3, for me adding another reason is that we should also be aware in our own history. we Filipinos must remember our history and be well informed on how we started to be a nation. knowing our past would enable us to better understand our present and enable us to communicate this accurate information to Filipinos who may not be aware of it, especially the founding father of the country, as well as to foreigners. additionally we may learn a lot from our past about what to do and what not to do in similar circumstances, how to combat injustice, and how to recognize what is truly ours. knowing our history will also disciplined us to be concerned about the country to which we belong. 4,In my own opinion Jose Rizal is a national hero for a reason, he may not be the greatest Filipino but for a hero he does. he is a pacifist, a well mannered person and a smart human being indeed, compare to other Filipino that considered a lot of revolutionizing to the Spaniards that cause a thousands of life. for me Jose Rizal did not only free the Philippines but gave a lot of hope in Filipino citizen he became the light and hope of all. the courage he had is extraordinary. I am not saying that the other heroes are afraid but they lacked something that Rizal of capable doing it, taking down the whole Spaniards. others may have the tactic to win in a battle but Rizal is going to win a war. that is why for me Rizal is the greatest hero of Filipinos 5, YES since Jose Rizal said that ang kabataan ang pag asa ng bayan, i think there are more filipinos that are very encourage by those words of Rizal that they are motivated to change nothing into something. many Filipinos considered the line the spirit of nationalism will live on in us in the next generation is important and very encouraging, this keep the kabataan motivated and the spirit of nationalism will be more enhance or will grow. since this love of Rizal for the next generation is very touching i know it will not disappoint Jose rizals words. "the power of the youth in nation is building significantly" this is a wake up call for the youth and the impact of understanding Jose Rizal's life. 6, YES BARCELLANO,B43

1. The fact that Jose Rizal inspired the revolution that set us free is, in my opinion, the most essential reason among the five reasons why we should study his life and writings. Jose Rizal, through his novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, made the Filipinos realize their situation and gave the Filipino people the opportunity to see how Jose Rizal perceives the situation back then. His books not only enlightened people and though not intentional, it also became the spark for a revolution that made the freedom that we have now today possible. I realized that those two novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo are not simply novels but also a part of history that we should never forget so that history would not repeat itself. 2. If I could add one more reason why we should study Jose Rizal's life and works, I would say that we should study it because it is the most important piece of history in our country. The lessons from his life are something that we must never forget and that there was a time that Filipinos were in a very difficult situation and that there will always be a possibility that it will happen again, but because of Jose Rizal, Filipinos would be ready for a situation similar to the past and mistakes back then would most likely be avoided because we now learned by studying his life and works. 3. Despite the fact that Jose Rizal was an American-sponsored hero, he was seen as our national hero by Americans due to his role as a pacifist. Even if it's possible that the Americans chose Rizal for their own reasons, I still believe that he was chosen with proper basis that has evidence and it is still fair because he earned his title by his own merits and he being affiliated with the Americans was simply a factor. In conclusion, I believe and also agree that Jose Rizal is truly the greatest Filipino hero and the pioneer that made Filipino people have their own freedom and identity. 4. Yes Maghirang (A01)

1. "Nationalism will live on in us and the next generation," I believe is the most important reason for studying Jose Rizal's life and works. It is a concept that unites the people of a country. It is also characterized by a strong sense of patriotism. Nationalism is important for a better nation because it highlights our country's true beauty and cultural uniqueness. Our own traditions and cultures will be well-known in this case, and we will be able to be proud of them. It will foster a lasting bond between Filipinos, allowing for superior coordination and communication, which will help to arouse the comprehensive intelligence and skills of one's distinct capabilities, which are critical for the betterment of our society and country. 2. It has a significant impact on modern society. Studying Rizal entails not only being able to recognize and read his novels and other literary works, but also comprehending how those works aided in the fight against colonizers in the past. We learn about the significance of his novels, essays, and other literary works, which are more than just for entertainment. Rizal's two famous novels, Noli Me Tangre and El Filibusterismo are inspiring sources of patriotism for the youth, according to the reading. It taught the Filipino people, particularly the youths, that they can show their love for their country in a variety of ways other than fighting physically. 3. Rizal is, without a doubt, the greatest Filipino hero. Rizal was a complex figure who didn't need a gun to make his point. The mantra "the pen is mightier than the sword" epitomizes his core belief in the urgent need for freedom and civil liberty in order to pursue genuine personal happiness free from the gaze of a foreign power. His two novels sparked a movement among his fellow countrymen to rise up and realize their long-held dream of being free of the shackles of Spanish conquest, tyranny, and enslavement. Other Filipino heroes looked up to him. He was the spark that sparked a chain of events that culminated in the revolution of the Filipino people, whether indigenous or mestizo, rich or poor, men or women. He may not have been the driving force behind the gathering of bolos and knives (that honor went to Andres Bonifacio), but he was the heat that kept them at bay. Then he made the ultimate sacrifice by facing the bullet from the jittery Spaniards who didn't even have the courage to pull the trigger. Even in death, he made them tremble with fear of their impending doom. Now I see why the Americans were so accepting of him. They were the ones who robbed the Filipinos of their victory over the Spaniards when they showed up uninvited waving their flag in their phony war with Spain, which capitulated lazily and hurriedly like a merchant closing out a sale. Yes, we were eventually sold. However, Rizal ensured that the priceless value of our freedom was enshrined in the minds of subsequent generations. 4. Yes. Banzon (A07)

I think the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that he played the main role in giving us our identity as "Filipinos." It was crucial that for us to fight against a common enemy, we should first recognize ourselves as people united under one nation and identity. The way that the natives in the Philippines from all over the three main islands began to adapt a common nationality and recognize that we live in one country, it’s easy to imagine that that gave them more encouragement to fight for our independence. If there would be one more reason why it's important to study his life and works aside from his exemplary display of patriotism, it would come down to the simple fact that he is quite the literary genius. Rizal's most famous works, the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, to this day remains as two of my favorite works of literature of all time. Much like Shakespeare of the western literature, I believe Rizal also influenced our local arts in one way or another, although this is something I am yet to educate myself about but that I'm genuinely curious of either way. One can't deny that perhaps it's unfair to a certain degree that American bias was factored into the choosing of Rizal as our national hero. However, I don't think it's to the extent that it would be considered a foul, as Rizal did contribute a great deal in paving the way to the Filipinos' achievement of independence from colonialism. Although if I am to be asked if I think Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero, I would hesitate to agree because while I respect him for his work in changing the Filipino ideal forever and dying for the country, I'd also be inclined to think that the people who lead the revolution deserve even greater recognition. Yes, I watched the whole video lecture. Villena (A07)

1) Among the five reasons, I think the most important purpose as to why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that the spirit of nationalism will live on in us and the next generation. It helps us understand not just ourselves but also the people around us in our country. Understanding how our country worked back then with Rizal is a vast contributor for us to give more love and affection to our country. Learning the good and bad sides that happened before will push us to approach different aspects in the future in our country more mindfully. With this, we would be prouder to be Filipino, and this will inspire us to pass on to the next generation the importance of getting back to our roots. 2) If I add one more reason, we need to study his life and works, is that we could get various life lessons from him, specifically his leadership skills. As we tackle, we gain various events with details that have values and morals which we can apply in our everyday lifestyle. Moreover, Rizal as a strategic leader is something we should look up to. With a mix of his sense of morality, concern for the well-being of others, and multifaceted knowledge, he was indeed an exemplary leader. Overall, it will inspire us to be a good citizen and be better people as individuals. 3) It is indeed true that there are a lot of other Filipino heroes who also significantly contributed to our country in their own ways. Many have dedicated their hearts and lives to our country. Which they all deserve to be recognized by the people. However, if we look closely at the criteria for heroism, I think that Dr. Jose Rizal ace it all. The legacy of his exceptional selfless service to the country and creative works is still significant in the nation's history. Moreover, Rizal's legacy of achievements still contributed to our present time, which greatly impacts Filipino people to fight for what is right. I believe that Rizal is recognized as the foremost national hero in our country because he exerted exemplary work for the Philippines. 4) Yes Achacon (A06)

I think the most important reason on why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is the 5th reason and that is "The spirit of nationalism will live on in us and in the next generation". By studying Rizal, you as a Filipino would have more pride on being a Filipino, you would pass this virtue towards your children and grandchildren and so on. and it would build a generation of passionate and nation-loving Filipinos. Loving your own country for me I think is the first step on being a proud citizen because it represent ourselves, it is an identity that I belong to this country. For us to be inspired and appreciate his brilliant mind and contribution and love for the country. Rizal made significant contributions to the Philippine art, literature, and medicine, which continue to fascinate Filipinos up to this date. Rizal's devotion to the Philippines was clear in practically every action he took. Rizal is so inspiring that he was called the Leonardo da Vinci of Asia by some. Rizal was an author, a poet, scientist, journalist, novelist, artist, painter, a marksman, swordsman, fluent in a dozen languages and so on. There are a lot of things to learn about this man and so I think that this would be my additional reason on why we need to study him. They all fought for the freedom of our country and not to be the greatest hero, They all had their own contributions and for me I think they are all great. Rizal was the most multi-talented person that ever lived. fought by writing and enlighten many Filipinos. And that set Rizal apart from the others were his methods. He died in search of his own principles, not simply because he lived his life in search of equality and liberty for his people. Nothing a human being can do for you is more admirable than sacrificing his own life for your liberty. YES. Tungga(A06)

LARA, B43 1. It was not unfair for other heroes that Rizal was chosen to become the national hero because of his pacifism. Firstly, Rizal is the first Filipino who, through his works, made each "Indios" unite as one and realize that they are the real Filipinos. Secondly, Rizal believed in peaceful means to effect change; his works "Noli Me Tangere" and "El Filibusterismo," not only exposed the harsh side of Spanish rule but also continues to inspire advocacy for nationalism, education, and social justice for generations of Filipinos. Lastly, the recognition of Rizal as the national hero does not diminish the contributions of other Filipino heroes; the way it should be seen is that Rizal as the Father of Filipino Nation become a way and reminder of all the Filipino heroes' collective efforts that led to Philippine independence. Rizal's pacific stance contributed to him being an American-sponsored national hero; may he be the hero or not, it never matters. The only thing that matters is that the Filipino heroes became successful for what they are fighting for, the independence of the Philippines and the freedom of its people. 2. "Rizal is the father of the Filipino Nation" is the most important reason why everyone should study the life and works of Jose Rizal. Firstly, Rizal had made all the natives of the Philippines realize that even though they live independently, they belong to one nation and one country. Secondly, Rizal made the step to recognize the natives as the real Filipinos; the term Indio which means stupid, inferior, and barbaric should not be coined to the natives of the archipelago as they have existing systems (own ruler, set of laws, army, and unique traditions). Lastly, Rizal has united the country with his civic organization, La Liga Filipina; the people of the country, through calling themselves Filipinos, has adopted the concept of belonging in one race, one nation, and one big family. The life and works of Jose Rizal should be studied because it is inspiring and moving how the father of the Filipino Nation had awaken the Filipino consciousness, challenged derogatory stereotypes, and united a fragmented nation. 3. Another reason why Rizal's life and works should be studied is his "Literary masterpieces: Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo." Firstly, these literary works of Rizal had served as a catalyst for change; through the vivid portrayal of characters like Crisostomo Ibarra, Rizal shed light on the injustices and oppression endured by our ancestors. Thus, has acted as a call to action, arousing national consciousness and paving the way for social transformation. Secondly, these novels had unveiled the truths with courage; the social and political ills plaguing the nation was exposed which allowed readers to comprehend the gravity of their difficulty. Lastly, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo has a continuing impact for generations of Filipinos; these novels serves as an inspiration to the young generation, empowering them to use their voices, talents, and creativity to shape a better future for themselves and their nation. By studying Rizal's literary masterpieces, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, his legacy and the transformative power of literature in creating a more just and enlightened society is recognized. 4. Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero because of his nationalism, peaceful resistance, and martyrdom. Firstly, Rizal firmly believed in the inherent rights and dignity of the Filipino people; through his works (Indolence of the Filipinos - where he termed himself and his countrymen as Filipinos), he set the foundation for the Filipino national identity. Secondly, Rizal advocated for peaceful resistance as a mean to effect change; Rizal wanted the Filipinos to analyze and comprehend the complex issues they are facing with the Spanish, it is so moving that it sparked an unintended revolution by Andres Bonifacio. Lastly, Rizal despite being fully aware of the risks involved, he fearlessly stood up against the oppressive regime and became a symbol of resistance; after his execution, more Filipinos were motivated to join KKK and fight for independence. The nation's pursuit of justice, freedom, and progress were guided by Rizal's ideals, hence, making him the greatest Filipino hero. 5. The impact of Rizal's life in the current generation is seen in the preservation of our national identity, continuing social activism, and the willingness to defend the country's freedom and democracy. Firstly, Rizal's life and writings played a crucial role in preserving and strengthening the Filipino national identity. His emphasis on embracing Filipino heritage, language, and culture has helped shape the identity of the current generation, reinforcing a strong sense of patriotism and nationalistic spirit. Secondly, Rizal's life serves as a constant source of inspiration for social activists and advocates of change. His commitment to social justice, equality, and human rights has inspired the current generation to actively engage in social issues and fight against oppression. Lastly, Rizal's fight for independence and his advocacy for peaceful revolution inspire Filipinos today to actively participate in shaping a society that upholds democratic principles, social equity, and human rights. The impact of Rizal's life will continue for future generations and will never fade as long as there is a Filipino. 6. Yes

1) The most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal for me is because he is the father of the Filipino nation. He unified every barangay in every island as one, If it wasn't for him I think we might be fighting amongst ourselves. He influenced our mind and heart with just his words and lit a spark on Filipinos. He changed the perspective or the mindset of the people back then, he managed to make the people into believing that this is our nation, this is our country and we are one. 2) I think we have to study his inspiring works mostly the two famous novels. He enlightens his people about their social standing through his novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, which are very useful right now since they will remind us of what happened in our country previously, as well as enlighten us about the need of not allowing others to bind us. In the end, Rizal is without a doubt the first to view himself and his homeland as a Filipino nation and to defend its independence from the colonizers. Rizal's self-sacrifice has earned him the title of Philippine hero. 3) Yes I believe, Rather than using force or aggression, he communicated his love for the Philippines through his books, essays, and articles. Because he was capable of transforming the way Filipinos thought, Rizal is regarded as our greatest hero. At the time, he was a very remarkable individual. He was modest about fighting for reforms through his essays rather than a revolution. He applied his brains, talents, and skills in a more peaceful rather than aggressive manner, and he sacrificed his love life and his peace of mind for the cause of our country and the Filipino people. 4) Yes Salado (A06)

1. I think the most significant among the presented reasons why we have to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal was to sustain the spirit of nationalism and live on in us and other generations. It is the most important, in my opinion, because we have to realize how Dr. Jose Rizal changed our value as people and transformed us in our Filipino manner as of today. By his story, we can say that we deserve to be called Filipino and love our country, the Philippines, wholeheartedly because of his sacrifices and courage. The good thing about this reason is that the next generation of youth can hear the success story of Dr. Jose Rizal, and the lesson and sense of nationalism are passed on and is still alive as long as there are inspired young minds in the Philippines. 2. If I were going to add one more reason on why we have to study the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal, it would be to distinguish the significance of his principles and teachings concerning current societal events and situations. We are all aware that during his time, he encountered different societal problems that may still be evident up to this day, and knowing them will help us identify their similarities and how to handle them correctly. This added reason why do we have to study the life of Rizal makes us learn about the situation of the past and how significant it is today. Because as young people living in the Philippines, we should know about our history and challenge ourselves to avoid their mistakes and create inspiration from them. I think this is a good reason because it can excite the learners to understand the happenings in Rizal's life while learning life lessons, which is applicable in our lives. 3. The people who chose Rizal to become the greatest of them all have the right to do that because he inspires the next generation of heroes that we know today. He showed us that being Filipino is a right and proved that we are worthy of being recognized for who we are. Hence, I think it is not unfair for other heroes to make Rizal the greatest of all. He deserves the recognition of giving such a title because he was the one person who unified the Philippines as one. Also, he showed us how to love our country and the people living in it by showing respect and courage. Thus, Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero for me. He is one of a kind person who gave us a sense of nationalism and self-respect for what is ours. However, I also want to consider those heroes who made him an inspiration and followed his goals. They are also honorable and good because they fight for our country and do not give up until the end. 4. Yes. Bañocia (A06)

Quicay (A01) 1. For me, the third reason, "He inspired the revolution that set us free" is the most important reason why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal. What he did for this country was so priceless. Jose Rizal's two novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, became an inspiration and essential handbook to Filipinos. Jose Rizal's purpose was to show and expose the wrongdoings of the colonizers during the Spanish Era. Jose Rizal used fictional characters and events to portray Philippine society. Jose Rizal gave hope to the Filipinos that we can be free from the oppression given by the colonizers at that time. 2. If I would add one more reason why we need to study Jose Rizal's life and works, that would be to gain a greater appreciation and deeper understanding of everything Rizal fought and died for. It is important to study Jose Rizal's life and works, especially his writings, because it will bring greater understanding to us college students since the youth only knew his biography and novels. It will give us a deeper meaning of how Jose Rizal became one of the heroes in the Philippines. It will also help us to better understand and see a different perspective of Jose Rizal. 3. A lot of Filipino heroes go through war and fight for our country. The Americans are somehow biased and at the same time logical for them to consider Jose Rizal as our national hero. Jose Rizal was one of those Filipinos who achieved liberty that didn't use violence to fight for our freedom from the colonizers, and the Americans saw that to him. Also, the Americans didn't want the Filipinos to look up to a hero who becomes a rebel and fights using violence for our country. Therefore, I still consider Jose Rizal as our national hero but not the "greatest" Filipino hero, and was unfair for the Americans to have their agenda of making Jose Rizal the greatest of them all. 4. 1. It was not unfair in a way that Philippines national heroes that they have their own way to fight the conquerors and some of them uses guns and other military weapons for hurting or injured and in worst case scenario kill somebody. In fact, Jose Rizal uses only pen and paper to save our nations from the conquerors but then he ended up being killed by the Spanish colonial government. He is the eye opener to the Filipinos to fight back among the conquerors because of what we wrote such as NOLI ME TANGERE and EL FILIBUSTERISMO that aims to enlighten the Filipinos on what is happening in the country and to fight for their country and have the total freedom. And that's the best weapon for a nation because Unity equals good guidance, proper growth and true development. It provides a constant source of positive motivation and greater accomplishment. That is what Jose Rizal worked on before he executed by the Spaniards. To translucent about the guns and other weapons that other nation heroes used, I am not against with it because I know that is the only way that they have that time and maybe them is the reason Jose Rizal came up to study in different countries and gather informations and be knowledgeable as fast as he can because he really loved his nations. 2. I think the most important out of the 5 reasons why we need to study the life and works of Jose Rizal is that "He inspired the Revolution that set us free" he made the Filipinos to unite and to fight for our nation. And that's made him to be "Father of the Filipino Nation". He served as the catalyst for a chain of events that culminated in the Filipino people's revolution. Furtheremore. Uniting the country is difficult, especially if you do not have connections to high-ranking officials. That is why Filipinos praised him for it and were inspired by him to study, and because Filipinos discovered what an effective weapon knowledge and degrees are. 3. I would add: in my opinion, I think it would be knowledge is a powerful weapon that someone must have. Think of it, If Jose Rizal did not have a knowledge and let himself to be powerless what will happen to the Philippines? Whose gonna stand out and do what he does. That's were I coming from, the life of Jose Rizal was a history and became our national hero that will live forever, imagine you can be one of the national hero of our nation one day for contingencies that might occur but you are have the power like Jose Rizal have such as degree, connections, intelligence, intellectual power, artistic talent, nationalism, patriotism and having a faith in God, and having discipline and self-control. 4. Definitely, Philippines been colonized for about 333years by the Spaniards and Jose Rizal set us free by his skills and talent. Many national heroes fight but not totally succeed to set us free from these conquerors. He was also a multidimensional thinker and political leader, most remembered for his writings on politics that sparked the Philippine Revolution and ultimately resulted in his execution by Spanish invaders. Filipinos wants freedom, and Jose Rizal fought for freedom in an exceedingly silent but powerful way. 5. In my generation, the legacy of Jose Rizal lives on. Which is why we have a Filipino identity. There is a greater impact, particularly on the youth. Filipinos have the ability to compete with other nations and attain power with good intentions. Filipinos are inspired to study at well-known universities around the world and become professionals in a variety of fields. 6. Yes ESPERANZA, B43

It is important because this is the main root of the awakened nationalism in the minds and hearts of the Filipinos before it passes to different generations up to the present time; I can see the patriotism no matter where we are or what we are, we always raise our Philippine flag in every battle or competition we are making. One of the reasons was that they had left a lot of life lessons in every chapter or battle of their lives that would inspire every individual not just in our country but also around the world that could help us in decision-making or instances in our life. My second reason is to recognize or appreciate his works and efforts as a sign of his love and devotion to our country. It is important not just to know the past or history as a Filipino. Still, the most important is to understand or comprehend it. It can help us avoid or prevent the situation before it happens in the present or future and preserve nationalism in Filipinos. I still believe that the greatest hero of our country was the braveness and unity they formed within their selves; for me, it is the inner battle that is the hardest to fight as for a long time ago, Filipinos have been blind and deaf, and few by few people begin to overcome the fears that took them in shallow. They maybe have different contributions to the independence of our country. Still, I think one of the standards that are set by many that make Rizal the greatest is that without using force or violence, he had used his intelligence to spread evenly around the world his words that triggered the bravery of everyone and up to now his works or records remain and recognize for a long time and will be passed to new generations. Yes, I have watched the entire video lecture. Sarmiento (A07)

1) The most important reason for studying Jose Rizal's life and works, in my opinion, is that through novels like Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, he inspired the revolution that set us free by sending out a societal message that citizens should be the leaders of their governments, not the other way around. Jose is the leader who began the fight for his country's freedom and equality, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps. Jose Rizal is a hero in every sense of the word. He embodied knowledge, bravery, and a resolve to fight for all men born equal and conquer all hurdles. The large number of individuals who wish to make a difference or give voice to those harmed provide that strength. He is a faithful supporter of our constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property. He said that violent revolution is impossible, foolish, and dreadful and that he has always opposed, fought, and declared it to be impossible, absurd, and harmful. He emphasized that improvements must "also come from above" since reforms "from below" are "violent and transitory upheavals." He did, however, highlight that he, like every other Filipino, wished for the independence of our nation and that education and hard work might help the Filipino people achieve that objective. "What good is independence if today's slaves become rulers tomorrow?" Rizal had looked into it elsewhere. They will undoubtedly, for whoever bows to tyranny enjoys it!" To combat ignorance, which leads to enslavement, Rizal believes that "the gift of reason with which we are precious must be illuminated and used." 2) Another element is that we will reflect on his prior experiences. Exploring Rizal's life and works will give you a better insight into what life was like for Filipinos during the Spanish era. Another benefit of studying his history is that we may learn more about him and be encouraged to pursue our own life objectives; Rizal's only purpose in life was to combat social injustice. Day and night, he dreamt of liberating fellow Filipinos. Rizal stands up to prominence as a leader of the Propaganda reform movement, a tenacious fight for political and social freedom. He never ceased writing for La Solidaridad, and he even published two volumes on the atrocities of Spanish colonialism. Despite the fact that he was murdered as a consequence of these events, he died a hero. Make the most of your time; Rizal spent most of his time improving himself via self-education. He was not only academically busy, but he also studied art, painting, and languages, including German, as well as keeping up with global philosophical and scientific issues. In exile in Dapitan (a small hamlet in Mindanao), he spent his time documenting the local animal and plant kingdoms to share with fellow rebels. There is a virtue in giving, and Rizal was always thrifty, skipping out on vacations to stay on track with his medical studies and going hungry at meals to make ends meet. He gave up all of his money after winning the lottery in Dapitan to build light and water infrastructure, as well as a school for residents where he taught and offered free medical treatment. 3) Jose Rizal is our most significant national hero because it was an American colonial conspiracy and because he had a lot of written evidence or documents to back up his post-mortem opinion. In my opinion, Jose Rizal is the greatest Filipino hero since a hero signifies morality. Rizal gave us freedom through compassion. Because he fought for independence in a modest but successful way, Jose Rizal became a national hero in the Philippines. Instead of employing force or hatred, he used his writings, essays, and articles to express his love for the Philippines, sparking philippine nationalism. His legacy continues to live on. He was a wonderful man at the time. He was humble, preferring to fight for change via his words rather than by revolution. Rather than being combative, he used his intellect, talents, and skills far more peacefully. In my judgment, that is not unreasonable that is unfair to other heroes. 4) Yes -Olaes (A07)
