Anyways the Cameroon team wouldn‘t be able to beat Brazil at the finals or maybe even Lithuania , so wouldn‘t matter tbh. If Embiid chose Cameroon he wouldn‘t be in the olympics today… . So it is completely logical why Embiid would choose USA, cuz atleast there USA chance of getting a gold medal while Cameroon had no chance at all.

That’s really what it is..but simultaneously, US is experiencing a culture shift when it comes to basketball. Other countries are hungry because they’ve spent so long playing catch up. They’re ready to take over with all the talent sprouting up all over the world. America has so many spoiled players growing up in AAU circuits and getting major attention from such young ages. The paychecks are fatter than ever. Everyone has shoe deals. Sponsorships and what not. And every star or superstar is made an immediate businessman the moment they get that first big check which takes away from their focus. It’s crazy, but that gap is evaporating for so many reasons.
U.S. basketball defense is all over the place. At times, it looks brilliant; at most times, they all play lackadaisically; and at worst, it's abysmal. We also have a habit of resorting to iso basketball, which disrupts the flow of offense and results in careless turnovers. I'm watching guys not even trying to box out in these games. It's that lack of intensity you see in the NBA as teams prefer to get back on defense most times. Well, this ain't the NBA.
It's also about the US being bad. US has poor offensive concept in half court and rely too much on nba style iso possessions which end up in poor shots. Same problem as last year's fiba world cup. USA had the least amount of passes out of all teams, looking very similar this year.
I hope shet changed after 20-30 years LIKE everything else in the world does loolz

Too bad the Dream Team couldn't play this team, all in their prime, easy to guess who would get beat. Now we'll hear the excuses on why the Dream Team were better performers, easy they were better PERIOD.
So basically this era is just 'way better' but they they are excused for barely winning against 3 G-League players and the rest of a team who dont even have a court to practice on as if the NBA squad FILLED with superstars of the supposed greatest era shouldnt still win by 30. The excuses are utterly insane. Spain in 08 had 1 NBA player, Pau Gasol. Marc Gasol, Rudy Fernandez, Sergio Llull, Ricky Rubio, Jose Calderon and a couple other solid pieces. Sabonis, Kukoc, Petrovic all 3 were not 'NBA players'. Sabonis way past his prime dominated the NBA when he finally got in and players of his era have consistently stated that they were lucky to never face him in his prime. The NBA back then simply barely drafted EU players. Doesnt mean there wasnt a list of European players that without that bias shouldve played in the NBA already. But the big point is, why does this era always claim their ish is the best, but when they underperform, is all kinds of wild excuses without any form of context. Honest to god, the world has officially gone into pure narcissim. Logical reasoning doesnt exist anymore. This era is the era of doing outlandish statements and once these statements pan out to seem to be highly overrated, just move the goal post and gaslight.
I fully agree that the NBA players are struggling to adapt to FIBA basketball, and I think its a large part to do with the NBA allowing players to travel and carry the ball.
90s NBA was a lot closer to FIBA rules so they didn't even have to adapt to anything except the size of the court. It made more sense for us to follow the NBA as well since the rules and stryle of play is the same. But then the Americans decided to turn the sport into a show for casual viewers...
Canada has almost a full roster of NBA players. That shows how much the game has evolved. The best players aren’t even from the USA anymore. It’s only gonna get harder for team USA.
I just think that our basketball players have no semblance of a normal life after age 14 so they've become spoiled. I think we still make the best players but the tatums, embiids, Paul george and Zions of the world are missing something in their mental make up. @@macalloway1 Damn you're onto something. There does seem to be a noticeable difference of personality. For example LeBron James and Dwyane Wade grew up dirt poor during the Crack Epidemic. There's just a difference in mentality between guys like those and the new age guys who are mostly former player sons and have been rich since birth. (And therefore get immense privileges) Whats funny is LeBron's path started from the bottom but now he's experiencing a similar phenomenon with his own very privileged son

The south Sudan team was shooting lights out. Over 50% from 3 if im not mistaken.. and i watched the whole game(at work🤫) SS was hit contested shots. But you could tell USA wasnt playing 100% at first.
We have a array of players who are known for not playing defense and Devin Booker can't even handle a double team proven and how he bitched about being double-teamed in an open run
My American friends let me tell you, as a Brit who is new to this sport and as someone who was there at the O2 arena for USA vs Germany i have never seen a more dominant athlete than Lebron James. Multiple times saying out loud "39 years old my assss" as he runs rings around great players, grabs a 2 then runs the length of the court for a jumping block only to take that ball all the way back for another 2. They didn't need 3 last second miracle to beat South Sudan, they needed refs help. It's a clear foul after the off rebound, but obvuosly the refs aren't going to call that as they didn't do on many calls (last LeBron play was an offensive foul, full extending the arm to get the defender away) Sadly, we will see more of this as usually happens on olympics with USA.
The comparisons with the dream team are tired and annoying. They faced 8 NBA players playing for their national sides, whereas currently in these Olympics there are 61 men who are or have been in the NBA. The game has changed. Enough with the comparisons. A win's still a win. And Embiid was an idiot for saying that only to struggle pathetically. I am not even sure why he is starting ahead of AD who has been a BEAST on a rim protection tear. I would not say the US struggled defensively. They have not played together at all, and they have to play in a new system that doesn't come to them naturally.
In Kukoc's generation ( mid to late 80s ) Europe started creating a very strong basketball culture . The result is what we see now and it will only get better unless USA starts buying european prospects into its college system. I heard smth about that a few days ago but didn't delve into it that much . That would be be bad for the sport imo but lets wait and see
In these highlights , you clearly see the dream team playing against dudes who just learned what a basketball was. One clip showed usa on a fast break and 4 USA players were In front of the other team . 😂 by 2003 WE we taught the Euro Step by Europeans , one of the best moves we use today. This ain’t back then. Dream team was playing against mechanics and bartenders .
The US used to DOMINATE the world with their freakish athleticism. The few countries that had talented players were white countries (slow...) now, there are tons of other countries with talented AND athletic players. While at the same time the US doesn't care about suffocating defense anymore. Old, lazy players playing half assed defense is why they are barely winning. Old USA teams used to use freak athletes to suffocate the ball and get out and run. Now we don't play D and try to outshoot teams who are far better than they used to be.
I think it's because they are accustomed to today's NBA of preferring offense over defense which shows the lapses in defenses and non-existent box outs to secure a rebound. The previous USA teams hustles to get that ball on defense which contributes a lot on their large leads
That game against Team Canada was an exhibition. If they face off against each other in the Olympics, that might be the best game of the entire tournament. Team Canada has real potential to cause an upset. You can stack as much talent as you want, but if the chemistry isn't there - thats when talent gets beat.

It's because of the USA we're having good global basketball. All of the teams have NBA players involved either as player or staff. Also USA won in 2020. Still a basketball super power
Comparing previous US scores with today's scores against national teams is not fair. Basketball has evolved globally to NBA standards, so teams like Angola and Germany are not the same anymore.
That's only half of the story. US basketball is far from its former glory. AAU and extreme rule changes that heavily favored offensive players didn't do well for your young generation.

This video and his takes are so based you literally explain that the world is getting better, yes it is. But then you go back to 1992 when international talent was almost little to none when in comparison to the US. And team USA is older now and the younger guys don’t have much Olympic experience so it’s gonna be different. Saying that this team isn’t going to succeed because of age or because they don’t look good is just based. We don’t know if this team is better than the dream team but who knows they could be would the dream team be blowing out todays international team by 50 I don’t think so.
I don't think any single country needs to catch up to the US. The whole world, especially Europe, has gotten much better since 1992 and it's not slowing down. I think with basketball, you just need one or two stars and a good team around them. A country that has 1-3 NBA stars and fills out the rest of the roster with role players from the NBA/Euroleague will have a legit chance to win.
The excuses are already in place. If Team USA wins - it´s mostly thanks to LBJ. If they lose - well: "other countries got better", "it´s not 1992 anymore" or "there are way more NBA players on other teams nowdays". Croatia had 3 HOF players in 1992 and got beaten pretty badly. Could it be that LBJ, Curry, Durant or A.D. are not what people are making them out to be compared to the greats on the 1992 team?
They're defiling talent at this point. Even before playing an NBA game, the amount of money they make is taking the hunger out of them and robbing them of their full potential.

USA basketball needs to organise more games every year rather then the odd 2-4 years for the World Cup and Olympics. Play a 4 team exhibition tournament after the NBA season concludes where the USA plays Australia, Canada and France 🤷♂️
People talk about lebron on the 2004 team but prime mvp, 2x champion tim duncan was on that team and gets no blame.Nor does he for the 2013 finals. We literally never hear about him if it isnt something good.
About the Embiid comment on him saying a lot of the guys are older, I think he should’ve definitely worded what he said better. But I also think he was just trying to logic with the people who are saying that Team USA should be winning every game by 30 just because of everybody’s names. I don’t think he was meaning to shit talk anyone on the team but say that everyone on the team isn’t in their prime, and that people shouldn’t expect them to win every game by 30. Either way I do believe Embiid should stop saying some of these things because they’re kinda getting out of hand.

Embiid said something true, but the "old" comment hits him harder than the others. He may be younger than James, but Embiid plays more like an old washed guy. Remove him from the rotation.
