1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 (Gold)
Bullit Proof General Motors Of Canada Documentation
Extremely Rare, Real LS6 4 Speed Convertible
Factory M22 4 Speed Transmission
Factory Desert Sand Metallic Exterior
Factory Black Vinyl Interior
Full Nut And Bolt, Frame Off Restoration
Complete With Original Build Sheet
Known Ownership History
One Of Only A Handful Factory Cars Ever Built
The Chevelle in SS 454 guise was known as the corporate A-body at General Motors. It was the bow-tie brand’s muscle car variant, and with the LS6 Turbo-Jet 454 V-8 option that is featured on this car, they weren’t kidding! The big block motor produced an advertised 450 brake horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 500 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 rpm, which were the highest performance numbers of the muscle car era. Keep in mind this was a factory option that anybody could walk in and order from your friendly Chevrolet dealer for just an extra $263.30 on the window sticker. Some 4,475 buyers made that choice and were rewarded with higher insurance premiums to go along with the high performance. The number of LS6-equipped Chevelle convertibles known to exist today is often said to be less than 20, which could be true, but no one knows how many were actually produced, since Chevrolet has never shared detailed production breakdowns.
This original 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 Convertible was sold new at Sinclair Motors Ltd. This LS6 Chevelle was factory ordered in Desert Sand Metallic exterior complemented with Black Stripes and a Black vinyl interior. It is powered by a numbers matching LS6 engine and a numbers matching M22 4 speed transmission. The factory options listed on the bulletproof GM of Canada documentation and on the Original Build Sheet make it quite special indeed, some of which include: LS6 454/450hp engine, M22 4 speed transmission, G80 Posi rear axle, 3.31 Ratio Gears, Power Disc Brakes, Power Steering, Power Top, Cowl Induction Hood, Am Radio, Tinted Glass and of course the F41 suspension to keep this factory built LS6 in line. This very rare Chevelle has been nut and bolt, frame off restored to better than new. Its factory Desert Sand Metallic paint has been wet sanded and polished to a show quality finish. The undercarriage and engine bay have been detailed to OEM specifications with correct chalk markings and tags.
The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle LS6 was one of the greatest muscle cars of the period and this is one of only a handful that were factory ordered as convertible. This is one of the rarest muscle cars ever produced and is comparable to cars like the Hemi Cuda Convertible, RAIV GTO Judge Convertible, and Shelby GT500 SCJ Convertible. This one in particular is an investment grade collectible; it has benefited from frame off restoration, as well being fully documented with original build sheet and GM Canada documentation. Due to its full and complete documentation, ultra rarity and outstanding condition, this LS6 Chevelle Convertible would be a prerequisite addition to any major muscle car collection.
1970 Chevrolet Chevelle (White)
Fully Documented With Two Build Sheets
Numbers Matching LS6 454ci/450hp
M22 “Rock Crusher” 4 Speed Transmission
Factory Classic White With Black Stripes
Frame Off Restoration
Sold New At The Famous Berger Chevrolet
The big block motor produced an advertised 450 brake horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 500 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 rpm, which were the highest performance numbers of the muscle car era. Keep in mind this was a factory option that anybody could walk in and order from your friendly Chevrolet dealer for just an extra $263.30 on the window sticker. Some 4,475 buyers made that choice and were rewarded with higher insurance premiums to go along with the high performance. In fact, the car was rumored to produce 500 brake horsepower, but the factory claimed 450 in the interest of lower insurance.
This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was sold new at the legendary “High Performance” Berger Chevrolet dealership in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is powered by a numbers matching LS6 454/450hp engine and M22 4 speed transmission. This LS6 Chevelle was factory ordered in Classic White complemented with Black Stripes and a Black vinyl interior. The options listed on the build sheet make it quite special, some of which include: LS6 engine, M22 4 speed transmission, G80 Posi rear axle, 4.10 Ratio Gears, Power Disc Brakes, Power Steering, Cowl Induction Hood, Am Radio, Tinted Glass and of course the F41 suspension to keep the LS6 in line.

I prefer the el Camino. I have owned 5 of them. 67, 68, 69, 71 & 72. Built the 69 with a 454, Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4 speed, 3.31 posi. Added 800 watts of Alpine stereo for good measure. It was sooo much fun. No matter how I drove it, fast, slow, with or without a load in back, it got 9 mpg. I have owned many cool cars through the years, but I miss that 69 the most. My buddies had Chevelles. One of them had a 72 SS 454 coupe, and later a 71 SS 454 convertible. Another had a 69 convertible that we put a tall deck 427 in. Those were the days!

its crazy that when I was a senior in high school 1984 my best friend bought a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS5, auto, blue with white strips for only $1500! We cruised that beast all up & down the boulevards of Atlanta on those warm summer nights picking up chics, great times!

The most desirable DAWG LS6 Chevelle (IMO) is that Fuller car that I believe peaked at auction @ $330k a few years back. Triple black, stripe delete, Loaded with pwr widows and Auto! Yes to Automatic, that beast is meant to be driven and showed off to as many youngins as possible, and it’s best paired with the floor mounted horseshoe shifter!

Wonder Video. Two unique LS6 examples too! I owned a Desert Sand LS6, which I believe later sold through LMC, (I saw the car photographed in front of the nice home, [Estate] garage and it was originally sold @ Ziegler Motors in Zelienople, PA). THEE ONLY FLAW ON THESE TWO are the Cowl Grilles. When we’re dead, kids will be scolding owners for not having them referencing today’s mistakes, (I sold mine @ Carlisle in 1995 and was SCHOOLED for the mistakes I made, switching the Malibu for SS in the door panels, incorrect master cylinder, newer style cowl hood, etc.). Thank you for starting back up with these Vids! 👍🏻

I think the 70 Chevelle is one of the best looking Muscle cars ever made. I’m not a rag top enthusiast, but they get the big bucks. A note on that LS 6 monster...they were actually close to 600 hp using “high octane” gas! (I’m giving away that I’m old fart with that term) had a friend college that had one and he ate mopars for lunch. You are right about the headers and exhaust needed to open things up!

High octane gas doesnt add any power it just burns slower to help against pinging. Doubt the 600 number. They werent that fast

What a bondo buggy, but she was the most beautiful looking car even in hand brushed primer paint. If it started to rust through the bondo I just slapped on more paint. Still the best looking car I ever had. Can not find one now that is under $40,000 in great shape.

@kensnyder2340
@kensnyder2340 3 года назад
Those 440's are my favorite engine from the era. They were incredibly durable and only had 10.5 compression for some reason. The only real high compression RB was the Hemi if I remember correctly. These Chevelles were about the only Chevy that I thought out classed the Pontiacs of the era. Todays cars are faster but it was a great time to enjoy these cars.

Arguably the top muscle cars of the era. I’m no fan of the bench seat up front , but what a relief to not have to look at fake woodgrain plastic. That stuff was pretty ugly and it looks even worse today. I used the word arguably because there were lots of other muscle cars that a person could make a good case for as the being the best of the era.

LS 6 = 450 HP Factory Rated, but the Pontiac Ram Air III was rated at 370 HP and in Truth was somewhere around 430 HP (the the IV was more like 440 HP,) and the Old 442 W30 455 was factory rated at 370 HP but in truth was closer to the 440 HP as well --- Roger Huntington wrote an article about what these engines actually put out; here is the list: (All are gross hp & torque figures.) @BrandonLeeBrown
@BrandonLeeBrown Год назад
The L78 396 had the L89 aluminum head option in the 1970 Chevelle until December 31, 1969. The LS6 engine completely replaced the L78 engine in the Chevelle at the beginning of January 1970. The L78 was still available in the 1970 Camaro, but not with the L89 aluminum head option for 1970. The low rise intake manifold was for the 1970 Camaro and the 1971 Corvette. It was unfortunate that the 1970 Chevelle didn't get the older high rise intake manifold on the L78 and LS6 engines.

My dad's uncle had a dark gold 1970 Buick GS (not a gsx) but it was ordered with a th400 and some kind of stage option (not sure which) but him and my dad always tell their stories about how they used to outrun the 454 Chevelles and cobra Torino's all the time.....they say the only car they couldn't beat was a guy in their town who had a orange 1969 coronet that had a built 383 4sd but nobody including the owner had no idea who built it or what it had done to it....it was purchased that way off a used car lot in the mid 70s....they told me that it had some kinda of special aluminium rear end in it (not sure what they mean by "aluminum" rear end) but they say they never seen another dodge or Plymouth or any other car with the same kind of rear end as what their friends coronet had in it. (Maybe I'm wrong but my guess is that maybe it was a quick change style rear end possibly and they didn't know what they were looking at.....who knows what it was or if it really was made of aluminium.....the main part of the story is that they claimed they could out run anyone around with that Buick GS ....all except that dang coronet with it's mystery built 383 and possibly even more mysterious rear end.....I sure wish I'd have been alive to see this coronet back then so I could see for myself what was going on with it and if my dad and uncle are telling the truth....or just talking out of their ass with no clue about what it was or what it had.

i see one big problem here u can go to LS website and read the history of the LS engine which came out in 1970 and they claim they never built a bbc in history but they do claim they put a LS 6 454 small block in the 70 chevelle and i even called GM up on it and they claim the same thing chevy claims that a LS is a GM engine not a chevy it was built by GM racing division and if u look on the net they have thousands of 70 chevelle ls 6 bbc but they did build thousands with the ho 454 bbc in them and LS claims they never put a LS block in a convertible till 96 and they use the same block today with a few sensor upgrades they had to make extra ports for the sensors but still have the 6 bolt main as it did in 1970 u could get a cast iron one exempt for the ls 7 but in 1984 they dropped the cast iron blocks the reason u can get the ls in all gm cars and trucks is because it is a gm engine and not a chevy engine. now i want u to think do u really think that gm would put the same name on 2 totally different engines just think about it how does that sound i really don't think so . what i find funny is i have seen a real 1970 chevelle with the real LS 6 454 in it on the showroom floor and it had no bbc in it plus it said cowl induction LS on the hood ooo that is right u can not get that emblem no more only came on a 70 chevelle and they did not make extra and u could not order it with the LS it was limited to 218 cars only 212 with the LS 6 and 6 with the LS 7 this is straight from the people that built the car . do u even know what LS means . just think of this if a bbc 454 is a LS then y do they claim they only put a LS in the 70 chevelle when the vett had the bbc 450 hp 454 in it and so did other rigs but they only put the LS in the 70 chevelle but other rigs had the same engine u are showing please explain it i have to hear this one . stop listening to the internet and research it from the people that did it or call GM up on it they will be glad to explain it too u .

@@adolfoliverbusch4755 and yet u will not call them up because u think u know it all good luck with it if u think GM calls 2 different engines the same thing just like u guys think a LS 7 is a 454 when they only ever came as a 427 what do u think what makes a LS so good that it puts out the same hp and torque as a bbc but yet it is better because it weighs 300 lb ,lighter than a bbc do u even know what LS stands for be quick . and u can listen to all the bs on the internet that u want i go straight to the source try that for once or read up on the mark iv series and read the whole description of it don't just look at the numbers like the part were they changed the angle of the pistons and pushrods. just go look at a LS engine does that look like a bbc not even close . and if u think i am full of shit then call gm and ask them i did just to prove i was right about the 70 chevelle LS car . i have 3 ho 454 modeled after the 70 ss engine puts out 450 hp at 485 torque they sold them as a crate engine now they have been upgraded to i think 485 hp in the 90's

You got too many things mixed up. The letters LS were used starting in 1970 to describe a couple of big block Chevrolet engines LS 5 and LS 6. A LS 7 was proposed but never installed in any car. Then around 2000 ish LS was used to describe a family of small block new tech GM engines.

@@melissaweidman3326 I’m guessing you’re probably around 20 years old with your confusion. LS6 was an RPO code back in 1970 that a customer could check off when ordering a chevelle. Yeah we get it, it’s not a modern day “ls” motor thst every douche puts in a car. Read ur history honey before u open ur pie hole
