Being in a relationship is like speaking a language. Some people just don't know how to speak that language. It's not your job to teach them, if they want to know they'll find a way to teach themselves.

I think if we run into people who make us undervalued, I take the responsibility that I exposed myself to the wrong pond, NOT I take the responsibility of I am not good enough for them to value me. Really, that is the answer. Thank you, Susan.

@@SusanWinter what about my bf breaking up with me cause he said he felt inferior to me because I'm so stable and healed unlike him and he didn't even once tell me that I was in someway making him feel inferior and he kept it all in until one day he couldn't and broke up with me without even telling me properly until I asked him ? What about when someone you love leaves you for something you didn't even mean ?! When I literally was inspired by him to work harder but he still felt inferior to me?!

Choose people who lift you up, and not bring you down. Dont go the wild road just because you like something about the person. There are better partners that are much more suitable to your needs and your profile. Dont satisfy for little! Be out for yourself

So very true Susan! When dating "strangers", we must remember there are many emotionally unstable people out there. We do not know what experiences they have had, or not have had in all types of relationships from their cradle to their present. Many people nowadays are Narcissistic as well as having BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), which can wreak devastating havoc on a poor innocent non suspecting person who is simply looking for a compatible partner to share a wonderful life together.

I married an ex. So for you all trying to get your ex back... LET ThEM GO!!! Don't get with someone who is willing to leave you. Find someone who loves you adores you and values you. Or you get back with your ex...he doesn't value you and wants to live without you. Its better to be alone than be with someone and be unloved.

The sad irony of the advent of social media is that people lost the social skills to maintain real life relationships. My ex was terrible but trying to date in this new environment is just as bad. Anyone else as frustrated as me?

This is amazing advice. In the past I have been in a long term (6 year relationship). The last person I dated had two girlfriends before me (he was 41) only dating them for 6 and 8 months. I did think this was strange due to his age but ignored my inner voice wondering why. I then realised that he was emotionally unavailable and was not able to be empathetic towards me. Yes, I was unknowingly fishing in the wrong pond and he is not in my caliber to have a long term relationship.
@Toody49
@Toody49 Год назад
Don’t feel bad. When I was younger, I got involved with an older man because I thought, being out of the loop for a while, due to health problems, it would be nice to have a first relationship with somebody who was supposedly well versed in relationships. Boy was I wrong. He was not empathetic, a bit, narcissistic, immature, and had very old fashion views that I don’t think came from religious views, or morality, but were due to a sense of not having anything and wanting something. For instance, he didn’t have a house. I have a house. I thought I was doing the right thing by fishing in the church pond. I was wrong. Years later, he finally realized, and admitted to me that he was the way he was because he didn’t know any better. He didn’t understand what it was like to be in a relationship because his parents didn’t have a good one. He followed the Bible, but to a T, Not realizing there’s a bit more flexibility to relationships, and that those norms had a cultural slant to them. He was even too old fashion for other Christians! I was even warned by one Christian to stay away from him. He and I are friends to this day, but I sure dodged a bullet.

Wooow that really helped me. It's made me realize (while sitting here crying) that the guy I'm dating falls exactly into this category. He has no idea how to do a relationship. His longest was 4 yrs...mine was 7. He doesn't know how open his heart and be on that same level of what a real relationship really is. I think most guys never grow out of that Peter pan/emotionally immature stage. I'm about to just stay single forever because this is a huge problem with the male gender, not being taught in early yrs what a relationship requires and consists of. I can only hope one day I'll come across a better pond.

Susan Winter we seperated (again) for about 6 weeks. He let's his job influence his attitude, time and priorities over everything else in his life. Granted he works in the public school system at a title one school. Basically he's miserable between duty and stress and bringing me the crumbs of what's leftover after a 12-14 hour day. I have dealt with this for over 3 years (mandatory overtime) and can't deal with the crap attitude anymore. He labels me as "not understanding" or "a nag" if I ask him to pitch in around the house. Your videos have given me a new vision and let me know I'm not crazy. Slow fade is exactly right. Thank you so much. I'm telling my friends about you as well

Oh my gosh was I wrong. There is a fable that goes: there was a man walking along the road one day and he saw a poor snake laying on the road, a very hot day. He felt sorry for the snake and he picked it up took it home and nursed it back to health. he decided they would go out for a walk one day and the snake turned around and bit him. He said why did you bite me and the snake replied: you knew I was a snake

I would disagree with the notion that someone who never has been in a relationship doesn't know how to be in one. Everyone needs to begin somewhere, and learning together could be a wonderful experience and lifelong journey. Rather, it is lack of compassion and lack of backbone - no manners and no principles about how to treat others. The reason I have never been married is not inability to commit, but rather the lack of a willing man! I would not mind someone who does not have a 'dating history', but someone's long history in that area would make me wary.. and I certainly would hope that he would accept the fact that I am not a divorced single mother who's had multiple sex partners, and not see it as some fault on my part.

Great point of view, finally someone with new perspectives about dating. Theres a whole generation guilting themselves about relashionship failures. Theres an unbalance thing going on, I think it´s related to men loose their main paper of sustain family, so the only way they get to get their ego validated is from getting as many woman as possible. Don't give up! Sometimes, it's not even you. The other person doesn't have the skills (or) the maturity to be in a relationship. And in so doing, they waste people's time. It's unfortunate, but keep on searching. And honestly, I will also add that it's even better to re-engage in building yourself. You're all you've got at the end of the day.

Susan, watching this video made me realise I am the messed up one. Ive been through a depression and seems like I couldnt get totally over it and this reflects onto my woman. She is a big reason I am now more confident and have higher self esteem and really, she is so awesome. But we got to a point where she doesnt know how to go further with this and Ive already decided its not her job anymore to make me feel better. I want to do what it takes to make myself feel better and by that to make her feel better too and protected and loved by me. My question is: what should I start with?

Where can you find another pond? I’ve tried 3 different online sites and all I’m meeting are emotionally unavailable men ....they disappear/ghost me....I totally get that it’s them in terms of not wanting to respect my boundaries...I’m always clear and specific but they say they agree and then poof they ghost. Thank goodness I have faith...

@margaritatorres8010
@margaritatorres8010 4 года назад
@@charlenemaeder8027 I agree Charlene...I follow the 2 / 2 /2 rule which helps. That is a minimum of two messages onsite, then a minimum of two text messages on our cell phones, and finally a minimum of two phone conversations to ensure meeting will not be uncomfortable for anyone. this has worked like a charm. Unfortunately, people (as both sexes are guilty) misrepresent themselves OR do not have self awareness and misrepresent themselves to you (tell you what they believe you want to hear) so they can meet you and in their minds change your boundaries because "aren't they just the cuteness". That was a joke.....I feel because I stick to my boundaries, am very clear about them they ghost me because they realize they cannot "play with this one". I'm okay with this as of course it saves you heartache in the future...just tough when it happens so so much. Good luck to you as eventually we will meet a like minded person ! Stay true to who you are...that's my motto ~

nice words , in a relationship , a privacy is required , if you take other people they will always have an opinion , but they can never understand your situation coz we always think that we are right, and give the blame on the partner, for a healthy relationship learn to take the blame rather than giving blame on the partner.

it sounds like you're main point is that unless the person you are dating has had experience of long term relationships you should dump them and go find someone who has. When I met my partner we both had limited experience of long term relationships and in the beginning we had many arguments. But we grew from each argument and now we are a solid couple. Isnt it better to communicate and grow, rather than cut loose and find someone who has better experience of long term relationships?
@SusanWinter
@SusanWinter 7 лет назад
The way you did it is the way it SHOULD be done. A winning relationship is created by 2 factors: both people WANT to be together and both people WORK at making the relationship better. You misinterpreted my wording as to long term experience. It's a very helpful asset, but only because the individual has a track record of knowing how to make a commitment.
@z.deutch1334
@z.deutch1334 6 лет назад
I agree with Susan, it's fine if both of you are emotionally immature and are willing to grow together. But it's chaos when one partner is the mature one, always offering an olive branch to try to pacify their partner-child, while that partner-child acts out doing destructive things to the relationship. Mature minded people have a limit on their tolerance. Some people just don't have enough self awareness or even the desire to change, so in these instances, Susan is suggesting the mature minded partners find someone more stable and similar to them.

@Angel Angel I would rather be concerned about someone who has been divorced multiple times. Even if they have learned of their past mistakes. I would rather share my life with someoe who has not fooled around and become 'an expert' but rather wants to learn together with me. I am sure many men look at me thinking I am not worthy of love since I have never been married / never had any children, but those were not my choices. Yes, I could have gotten into a relatinship with someone I knew from the start wouldn't suit me, and then I might be divorced and considered a 'mature' person. No thanks...

We all think that as an educated society, we all think with the same logic and emotions. We also think that common sense modeling is the same. These assumptions are incorrect. There are four main channels of education: family and friends, fiction and nonfiction products such as news and movies, society interactions, and education.. As we observe these 'educators', .we are shaped in how we think. However, for each of us, the order of exposure to the lesson building blocks is different, and this changes the person's mindset. It creates a path of reasoning that can be very difficult to understand.

So basically they can do whatever they want to us and when you tell you friends, they tell you that it’s your fault. Yeah, I’m starting to be convinced that are no real friends or family yet. And if that’s the case, then is this world even worth living in?

But how do you proove that you value them? If you are trying and trying and they still don't feel it, what do you do?

At some point, you sit back and relax. Search for newer opportunities and build yourself up as an individual. Learn to rediscover yourself, and you will get your glow and mojo back. If they don't value you, their loss. If they don't appreciate you for building them up, they are not worth your time. You deserve better.💞

Mine is 45 years old, hasn't had a relationship for 10 years (only casual sex), and this is painful now that im 6 months into it, he wont put in any effort and basically has treated me like a free prostitute, we have amazibg chemistry but he just wont even try to do anything that resembles a relationship

What if you were together with someone that had way more experience than me about how to be in a commited relationship yet was naive in handling life defining moments and basically thought his situation would "solve itself" eventually? That gave me anxiety because as time went by I started losing my trust in him...I'm not innocent myself but my reasons paled compared to his and he ended things because he could not handle the situation he created himself in the first place

hi Susan, thank you for your great videos. Do you have any suggestion for someone that never had a long relationship how to start one? Greet you from Germany:)

Hi LK. Start by knowing what you want. Be clear about that in your online profile or in your first date meetings. Look for someone who also wants a long term relationship, . Wishing you well!

Thank you Susan . Wow well said . That’s very true . A light bulb 💡 just went on in my head . Lol 😄 I was dating someone younger than me and I don’t think 🤔 he’s had a lot of experience in dating . Now that makes sense. I was asking for what he hadn’t even experience or for what I wanted in a relationship 😉 wow amazing thank you 🙏🏻☺️😘❤️💕

Thank you so much Susan, right on the money, can you talk about, people that were married before and now are trying to date, and everything we do if is similar to what they had then we are wrong, for example I drink occasionally, so that is a major issue, because previous partner was a drunk.. Y hen what do you do, when you are nothing like this...?
