I recently obtained an offer from RBC as an Actuarial Analyst. I was wondering why you chose Allstate? Can you make a video explaining why? Thank you.

Hi Andrew! Thanks so much for watching ☺ Congrats on your offer from RBC!! 🎉🎉 My reasoning to why I chose Allstate is pretty short - they are P&C (which is what I want to go into), they offer remote work options, have exam support, are a big company with a good reputation, and the people have been great. I also felt like the interviewers saw what I can bring to the table, and I appreciate that.

Great info! Kinda off topic but wondering if you have an opinion on taking FAM or SRM first? I have heard both sides and I'm not sure which one I'm gonna want to start preparing for next after I pass P in September.

Hi Jack! I haven't taken either of these exams, so I can't say for sure. But I usually like to start taking exams with topics I am more familiar with/whose content seems easier to learn. There's probably not one right answer - it all comes down to personal preference 😊

I follow you from Turkey as an actuarial student. Unfortunately, in my country, this department does not receive enough attention and value. Actually, in one sense, this is an advantage. In addition to English, I am learning German and studying for actuarial exams. However, I took a break from school for a few years for personal reasons. Do you think it is a problem in the eyes of the business world to graduate from a 4-year undergraduate program in 6-7 years? What do employers think about this situation? I wonder about this. Hi! Thanks so much for watching all the way from Turkey 😃 I think it is better to graduate with a degree than to not graduate with a degree if you want to pursue actuarial science, no matter how long it takes. When applying to jobs, I'd probably leave off the date you started your degree on your resume and only put on your graduation date. Hope this helps!

Bella, super smart! But, kind of off. The fact that a human has to train a model and that today's language models don't work like a human, is nothing. You are missing the part where LLMs grow exponentially. Whoever doesn't think AI will replace their job in 3 years from now, is a bit off. What can occur is probably a change in the actuarial field, a huge one. Why have 100 actuaries when a firm can have 10 that know how to use AI tools to their will? That's what I'd talk about. How would it affect entry level applicants? Will they have to learn AI tools? Will they need a lot more exams passed before applying? Etc.

Hey Rafael! Thanks for watching 😊 I did cover most of this in my video, and I stand by my statement that AI will not replace actuaries’ jobs in 3 years, or in the near future. Like I said in my video, and like you have commented, there will likely be a shift in the field and job responsibilities of an actuary. I can definitely answer those other questions in my future videos!
