Pull the inspection cover on the flywheel and put a bar on that. Usually works best for me anyhow. I've never had a 235 that was very stuck but I've had quite a few other engines that were. Good luck! 58s are cool cars!

Take out the spark plugs. Find out which plugs are rusty. Take the rocker shaft off. The intake valves are quite likely stuck open on the cylinder or cylinders with rusty plugs. Spray some loosenall on the valves. Tap gently downward on the valves. Listen for the valves that don't have the hollow sound as they're stuck. Using an air hammer gently vibrate downward (don't go so hard that you close the gap between the coils on the valve springs). Put two nail bars pry upward and see if you can force the valves closed. If you succeed closing the valves mix up a concoction of diesel fuel ATF Coca cola and Brut deodorant. Dump the mixture down the rusty spark plug holes. Make an air fitting screw in the spark plug hole and add compressed air. Now you have made an air ram. Energize the cylinder. It should force the concoction down into the ring lands. Should you get movement take the air hose off. Work the engine back and forth with the bar the way that you tried to start with. I had success with a stuck 261 in a 62 GMC many years ago that way. Message from a Canadian redneck.

Hey Gord thanks a lot for your comments and your suggestions. I seen the hollow sound hit with a hammer that you're talking about on vice grip garages page when he did an engine that was stuck. I've gotten a couple suggestions that says Coca-Cola does a good job as well same with the Diesel fuel. I'll have to try this method and see if I can get it unstuck. Moving over to a body shop in the next month or two and when it's not -35 LOL I'll be able to pull into the garage and hopefully get back working on it to see if I can get it fired up. @@fullyloadedkustoms I'm with ya. I've owned my '58 Impala since 2004 and drove it with manual steering until Dec 31, 2021, when I completed the installation of a 100% correct factory power steering system. Man, what an improvement! I agree - these cars need power steering. You'd be crazy not to order it. Not only does it make steering easier when the car isn't moving or hardly moving, but it tracks the car straight down the road and absorbs road shock through the steering wheel. The car still has manual brakes and I'm ok with that.

It has about 97 000 miles on it, still original paint. The original six had a chunk of the block broken because regular water was put into it. I dumped it, should have kept it but everyone said put a 350 in, so I did. I replaced the floor pans and braces and one rocker. But they have to be gone over and refitted. The body also needs to come off to do them properly. I also need to figure out how to get the newer engine to work with the original wiring, alternator etc. I know it's easy but never done it. It should really have a new harness anyway just to be safe. Needs the interior done but I used to do upholstery but have no sewing machine. I want to get all the frame rebuilt to like new and make the engine as reliable as possible. I would like to be able to do trips for a few hours at a time if possible. I'd like to leave the original paint alone even though it has some damage and rust along the bottom. I'd like to put in a six standard again or a big Pontiac six with more than one carb on it, give it some power but keep it looking like something taken care of from the late '60s. How it looked when it was retired basically. It's anniversary gold with light beige on the bottom. I'd like to use Cragger ss mags and thin whitewalls on it. Hope I didn't chat to long here.

If it has an inspection cover on the fly wheel, remove it & pry on the fly wheel... If not, pull the head. My guess is you have a motor locked up from heat, or rust.. Those str8 six gm motors are normally much easier to break loose..so my guess is, she's a boat anchor.

Thanks for your suggestions PDrPhil, I had someone else mentioned to me about trying to pry on the fly wheel with a bar, I'm moving to my buddy shop in the next month or so so hopefully when it's not minus 35 I'll be able to get that car in the shop and try some of the suggestions that people left in the comments here and see if I can get that 58 Biscayne running again

@@fullyloadedkustoms My dad used to buy old cars & tractors when I was growing up... More than once I've seen him take a 5 lb hammer , a 2x4 & hit the top of the piston to break them loose. It works most of the time. But until you get the head off, you dont kno what you're dealing with.

I bought a '76 Jeep J10 with a 258 I6 that was locked up. It had been sitting in a barn for 32 years. I had a guy tell me to use Coca-Cola. Maybe that's why they sell Coke in 6 packs? JK. Anyway, I poured a bottle of Coke in each cylinder and let it sit overnight. Also, I had sprayed some PB Blaster in for my first attempt. I wasn't able to budge it with a breaker bar, but believe it or not, I bumped the starter and it spun right over. That was in September of '21 and she still runs great! It's worth a try, right?

Thanks for your suggestions Douglas, yeah anything is definitely worth a try it. It's great hearing all the different opinions on what others have tried some I would have never thought of. Coca Cola I definitely remember doing an experiment in school with how coke Eats Rust. It's definitely worth a shot. Who knows maybe I'll get lucky too.

My uncle was a mechanic back 60-70 years ago. I remember him telling me about putting coke into the cylinders. It’s the phosphoric acid in the coke that does it. There may be better methods today. Of course a rebuild wouldn’t hurt.

@@Discovery_Overland I'm moving shops in the next month or two. At the new shop I think I'll pull it into the garage and if I can't seem to get the engine to turn over, I'll probably end up pulling it and doing a rebuild or possibly put a different motor into it.

I picked up the car Orginally as a parts car for my 58 Impala, but the Biscayne was in such good shape (other then the roof) so I decided not to strip any parts from it. It had the original engine and transmission in it, so I thought I would at least give it a try to see if I was able to get the engine freed up and running. But it's seized pretty good at the moment lol
