Guessing when the tree was a sprout the outcropping was directly connected to the ledge before erosion created that gap? Nevertheless, quite a spectacular sight.

In my opinion, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore deserves to be upgraded to national park status more than Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore did. Thanks for showing us a different perspective than from a boat tour as we did on our visit.

What a gorgeous area! On my first trip to Michigan I was informed that the Mosquito is their State Bird. I didn't need convincing.

@Brandon Letzco yep, having been to all the states mentioned I think Alaska ranks highest in mosquito density. All of them can be torture during skeeter season.

"By the shores of Gitchee Gumee." It really feels like the ocean if you see a 1000' ore carrier off in the distance. What always strikes me is how it looks and feels almost subtropical because of the moderating effects of the water. It's almost like the Oregon coast...

Yes...we were there once in October...and it was windy and quite cold but we had our shoes off and were wading in the water and it didn't even seem that cold...our Grandaughter had just a light jacket and no hat and loved it!!

Yes! So glad you went here! I was there in 2018 with not a ton of expectations and was blown away - Lake Superior is gorgeous, colors are amazing - and the the Pictured Rocks area is super cool - and the whole upper peninsula felt remote and wild - great place - great video!

Back in 1983, I had a girlfriend from the UP, and she explained to me that Hemingway's Big Two-Hearted River was actually the west branch of the Fox River, and she took me there to fish it for a few hours one summer day. Back then, only chubs were biting. But it was an interesting trip. It's 15-20 miles south of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We traveled north from Seney (where Nick Adams in the story got off the train).

I've been watching your travels for a couple weeks. This brought back great memories of my childhood though my memories are of the North shore of the lake. It was always magical when we could return home to Pa. along the the shore of this lake. Now I'm old and living in AK. I doubt if I'll get to travel that way again. Thanks for taking us along.
