In my utmost humble opinion. “ Fighting is relativity in motion, therefore never expect only respond as it is one’s opponent within context that dictates tactics” “ Many rivers from the same source flows” Many are not aware of the correlations between different systems, how they intertwine, interconnect and thus respectively separate depending upon its desired use and needs of the practitioners. So depending upon the training methods that is utilized you can take a tool, and thus apply it with its proper intended application, or one may misinterpret its intended area of use and thus apply a screwdriver with the same motion as one would utilize a saw. It is not the tools fault, but the one who wields it who is to carry the burden of blame, and sadly this is what has happened to many Chinese martial arts. Wing Chun actually has a wrestling base similar to what may be found in both judo/ Greco-Roman wrestling/ and combat Sambo( Headbutts included). Everything from throws, double/ Single legs/ reaps/ sweeps/ lifts/ kimura grips/ sprawls etc, are all found within the technical intricacies which the system is based upon. The reason for this is the elements of Chinese wrestling ( Zhuei Jiao) which is the fundamental base, of not only the footwork, but also energy principles of framing/ yielding/ tensing/ relaxation/ absorbing/ deflecting/ rising/ sinking/ expanding/ contracting/ pushing/ pulling, all tactile energetically principles that is equally shared where: Base/ posture/ connection/ energy is the staple of the system ( Ref Matt Thornton) Sadly, these principles are lost on many, so they are( for the most part) no longer being taught. Example: The boxing elements of wing chun, every hand technique can interchangeably be applied with a closed fist( the boxing elements can clearly be seen)Similar to the techniques that can be found within systems akin to Lethwei/ Muay Boran( what sets wing chun apart( or it is supposed to) is the concept of linking your punches into throws/ hand fighting/ dirty boxing) This channel is one of the very few I’ve seen that actually takes these concepts and actually depicts how to correctly apply them. Sincere appreciations for sharing and enabling all of us to observe and learn from such fellow peer as yourself. Sincere regards. Fellow Martial Artist. Tom Framnes. Spain.

Sorry, completely disagree. First of all try the tactics you’re showing being applied live against a non wing chun guy who knows how to shoot and clinch properly. If you’re fighting a bigger / stronger guy clinching and smothering his firepower is a far better strategy than trying to dance around and out strike him. I have studied wing chun almost twenty five years and have been exposed to plenty of grappling/Greco and bjj and can honestly say that there is a lot of clinch strategy contained in the art, just look at chum kiu and the dummy set, there re arm drags/two on ones/collar ties/trips/throws etc . Even biu jee teaches us to use clinching an opponent to use him as a shield against other attackers.

You’re wrong mate. I’ve been fighting underground for decades. Arts and styles come and go. Boxing.. then kickboxing.. karate.. mixed.. BJJ. They all get knocked out by me. I fight standing all the time. NEVER go to the ground. The BJJ chaps are easy. They try to take me to the ground, they usually ended up right there knocked out. So you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about because you’ve not really trained for true fighting, lest be in one. Fight standing, man. I find the kick-boxers last the longest with me. BJJ are the quickest to go. Personally, I wouldn’t waste my son’s time learning crap like BJJ if I want him to use his time to learn something to defend himself.

@@medjay9011 MMA, UFC, etc all have rules. THAT is your downfall, mate. You'd get bashed so bad in the nose and eyes within round one that you'd have no chance to even lunge at your opponent, and you'd want to get away quickly from me because the referee may or may not want to stop it in time for your ass' sake.

@@coldc7 Wing chun?! Well.. it's a mixture of various striking arts the more direct the better. Have some grappling and bjj but really, if you truly think about it. the grappling and ground game stuff rarely comes to use in a proper fight (ie. no rules). Grapplers/BJJ dudes normally end up with skull fractures and pretty bad facial damage. Think real, mate.

I totally agree about not grappling on the street. I saw the dangers of that when there are multiple attackers and weapons involved. Grappling on the street and your opponent is able to pull out a knife or handgun will be a disaster. Also grappling on the sidewalk on broken glass , urine and feces will ruin your day!😅

Tai chi is more effective against grapplers applying actual combat pressure, in fact against effective grapplers is the best way to actually learn effective and realistic Tai chi, against muay Thai is a great way to train effective wing chun

The truth is it's either several opponents or 1 that's way bigger and stronger than u...noone would else start a fight...so basically ground is a no go in any case...ofc the drug addict out of his mind is another common scenario...but yeah...that's more about killing than fighting anymore...

You’re obviously a talented athlete. But everything you do allows your opponent to reset. Your comment about his having a weapon is quite apropos if you give him the distance by default. If you want to create distance for your benefit so you can flee, that should be your choice, not the default, IMHO. I believe that you would enjoy learning Sil Jun Do from professors Richard Raciti and Chris Leonardo. (Professor Raciti is a 5th degree BJJ black belt under professor Moreira.) SJD incorporates a number of your philosophies, but with more control and compliance as default. Thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge! Stay safe, healthy, and well. Oss!

The most important grabbing that wing chun dummy teaches is grabbing the fists durring stricking. Training the grabs durring dummy training is incredibly useful because it helps you recognise and train the many grabs and it all hapends when your ingaged with all the punches.

This explanation is looking at only Western grappling. Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art from the 1800s. Shou Bo or Shuaijiao is not BJJ. Chinese Wrestling concept was / is, “take him down but remain standing.” Even in competition, no part of the body allowed to touch the ground or you lose… yet it’s a grappling skillset. It also has no weight classes in competition, and girls can compete against boys too in many tournamenets. So when you say, “you wouldn’t go to the ground in the street.” TRUE. You wouldn’t do it on the battlefield either. And that is why Traditional Chinese and Mongolian grappling do not allow touching the ground or “sacrifice throws” like in Judo. Because in infantry and/or bladed combat you will die. But, that reality ALSO meant that the arts were not just, “Chinese Boxing” either. You not doing too much punching in battle, or as an officer or armed caravan security. The gentleman, Fung Siu Ching, who lived in with the family of Ip Man’s senior brother - Yuen Kay San - and taught, was a Constable. Something like a Police Chief, during the reign of the Qing (Manchurians). The Manchu are wrestlers by Culture. On top of the conflicts of the time, the military training consist of Bladed Weaponry, Wrestling, Archery, and Limited Short-Range Striking. We know Wing Chun comes from this mix, because the Butterfly Knives (single with shield, or double butterfly knives) were used by peasant soldiers in the south. You can find the images of them, non-armored, holding their butterfly knives. We also know this, because the Luk Dim Boon Gwun is shared between several arts. Hung Ga, Hakka Mantis also has 6.5 Point Pole as it is actually based on the Spear. Hung Ga’s hero Wong Fei Hung fought in the Vietnam conflict against the French alongside Hakka fighters as well. Once the Police Academy was established, then they developed “Dai Bu Shu” (Arresting Techniques), which do include ground locks and ground holds / submissions. But that is a special skillset, similar to Di Shu Quan (which is like KungFu no gi grappling, because it has similar movement to what they now call berimbolo, flying scissors, or imanari roll) Lastly, even if we DO want to bring BJJ into the conversation. Then we understand - do not rely on strength, do not use force against force, does not also mean you are excluded from utilizing grappling skills on someone just because someone is bigger or stronger. Position. Balance. Leverage. Timing. Etc, it explains the KungFu concept of, “1 ounce moves 1000 lbs” For example Hip Throw, you don’t use arm strength. You just position your horse stance, then let them ride the blade of your hip, and then pull (with the same exact downward motion as the bows to buddha in Biu Ji)

A high school wrestler, or competitive blue belt would slam this guy to the ground before he could fart. Then he'd simply never get back up. Simple really. God forbid some random kid in an MMA gym squared up on him

Agree u should be the one dominant on the ground and agree u should strike if there’s more then one but disagree on u saying it’s hard to get ahold of someone like it’s actually pretty easy to turn striking into grappling to a point ofc but overall it’s easy
