Mike! Based on your vids of this and the standard WinkBed, I bought the Plus a couple of days ago (and I'm pretty sure I used the link from your site). After watching other vids of pleasant, perky teams of slim athletic folks, I found I wasn't quite sold on the info I was provided. Your careful, unhurried and intelligent analysis, in combination with your sleep survey is what I needed to make the right decision for me. Thank you!

PS After 4 months of lockdown, I've gained the "COVID 19" (at least), and am just shy of 250 at 5'11", and also need to sleep on a wedge which places more weight than usual at my hips. The stronger center coils of the Plus seemed to me to be the right way to deal with this.

Hi Greg -- thank you so much for the kind feedback! GoodBed was founded when Mike and his wife were getting the run-around when shopping for their first mattress. He realized there just wasn't a good source for unbiased reviews that had depth and solid testing. PS: I think we've all gained the "COVID 19" at this point....

Hi Mike -- Thanks so much for your comment. That is a critical question indeed. Sadly, many mattress store salespeople are simply not properly trained, or not properly motivated to ask you questions that truly need to be asked in order to help you choose the right mattress for you. Very you glad you found us so we can help get you pointed in the right direction. To this end, I'd highly recommend the GoodBed Quiz as the best starting point -- it provides a very efficient rundown of all the key questions, and then will point you to options that best meet your unique requirements. If you haven't taken it yet, you can find it here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/ I hope that's helpful.

I’ve had my WB Luxury for about 2 weeks and love it. 228lbs. here and it’s so nice to have that stronger edge support since I’m mainly a side sleeper. However, the engineering of this mattress in the middle is making me more of a back sleeper at times, which says a lot into the well thought out design. Your overviews and precise commenting is the best I’ve seen anywhere. And to finally see the internals… that made my day. I watch the dissection of other MORE expensive mattresses, and the internal materials are just layers and layers of foam and a short based set of springs. The Saatva is the only other mattress I’ve seen internally that has the same spring high as the WB. Watching this video was like a good pay on the back. That of ALL the multitude of choices out there, even without going to a showroom, I was a bit hesitant on deciding which one to pull the lever on. Delivered with tax, spending $1600 on remarkable sleep every night… worth it. Five stars on this video ❤

I tried the Winkbeds Plus & I was SOOOOO impressed with it. It's the highest quality hybrid I have tried anywhere, even beats out Stearns & Foster, considering the price. I love that it has a limited lifetime warranty, so they stand by the durability of their product. If I didn't love memory foam so much, I would have kept it. I wish it had been firmer as well. I'd recommend it anyone though.

Your reviews showed us why it's so hard to move around on the memory foam, the better air flow with the springs, but with the new technology little to no transfer of movement, I've recommended you and your quiz to friends and plan to do so to anyone asking about a mattress, keep up the great work, it's appreciated, Nothing beats a good nights sleep!!! 😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴

Mike, thanks for the video. It was really thoughtful and detailed. The BEST review I've seen for mattresses. I initially wrote off seeing a 30 minute video, so one feedback could be making a shorter / summary video or separating it in parts. I'm sure most viewers have short attention spans like me. It wasn't until after I clicked into the video that I noticed you had the timestamps in the details. In any case, I've been having buyer's remorse about my recent WinkBed Plus purchase (getting delivered in 3 weeks) - probably due to all of the Purple ads hounding me ever since I Googled for mattresses. After seeing this video and also browsing your website, I'm more sure than ever this is the right bed for me. Thanks for the trustworthy, objective reviews!

Hi Howard. THANK YOU for your kind comment. Believe me -- these reviews could easily be an hour long if we really go off the deep end, and we sometimes struggle to keep them as short as 30 minutes -- but in our view, it really takes that long to cover all the aspects that will be important to shoppers. People doing 2-minute videos just don't get that. Enjoy your WinkBed!

I am also still waiting for my friends to help me bring it in and setting it up. I can't do any lifting cause I have physical limitations. Hopefully i will be satisfied with the softer winkbed mattress. My brother has a winkbed mattress and says he loves it.

Thanks for the review! How does this mattress work with an adjustable base?
@goodbed
@goodbed 3 года назад
Hi and thanks for the comment/question. We typically test mattresses on top of our queen-size adjustable base. However, the test mattress we received from WinkBeds was king size, so we were unable to evaluate adjustable base compatibility first-hand. The company does say that the WinkBed and WinkBed Plus can both be used on an adjustable base, however. Given its overall weight, height and construction, we would expect some minor conformance issues, such as the foot lifting up a bit at first, or the center popping up when you get off the bed. Both would be expected to improve over time. We might also expect a little bunching of the top quilt when the mattress is in a fully articulated (bent) position. But overall, we expect this mattress would be just fine on an adjustable base. Hope that's helpful!

I sleep on my back because side-sleeping causes hip & leg pain. If my hip area sinks into a mattress, even just a little, my leg pain worsens as the night goes on, but I also need some pressure relief for my shoulders. Do you think the Firmer or Plus would work best for me? I'm a female 130 lbs. and have spinal stenosis & bad sciatia.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi Luxe. ALL of the WinkBed models now have the zoned support. That means you could choose the Luxury Firm (medium) WinkBed and still get the zoned support that's part of the firmer and plus. For your light body weight, it's possible you may find the Plus or the Firmer too firm for your shoulder area. You can now try WinkBed in a few stores -- and for you, that might be the best way to tell which version is going to work for you. You might check and see if you live close to one of those stores (in Chicago, NYC, Austin, Minneapolis/St. Paul or Washington DC). Details are on the Winkbed site: www.winkbeds.com/pages/faq Hope that's helpful!

We bought the Winkbed Firmer and it feels like sleeping on cement. Neither my husband or I expected our bed to feel this firm. The mattress looks beautiful and had no off gassing we could detect. We were so ready to love our new bed and now we’re lost for what to try next.
@goodbed
@goodbed 2 года назад
Hi there -- Thanks for your comment. I'm curious if your experience on the WinkBed Firmer has changed at all since your initial reaction. Your description of "sleeping on cement" sounds pretty extreme, but we do hear about lots of cases where the mattress just needed a few weeks to soften up, and/or the people needed a little time to adjust to the new mattress. If your experience hasn't changed, had you not considered replacing it with either the Luxury Firm or the Softer version of the same mattress?
@rebeccabrown5014

@@goodbed , Thank you for your reply! Our firmer WinkBed has softened a little but there is still too much pushback. We just received our Layla Hybrid mattress today and will give it a try. If we love it, we will process our return with WinkBed. If the Layla memory foam isn’t what we like, we will exchange our WinkBed firmer for either softer or luxury firm. We do wonder if the WinkBeds firmness changed significantly when they went from the micro coils to replacing it with more foam. Before purchasing, we had watched videos that were nearly all for the earlier WinkBed with the micro coils. My best guess is that WinkBed made the change in the past year? We just made it to our 30 days with the firmer WinkBed. Please feel free to offer any suggestions. Thank you, again!

We are combo slippers who fall asleep on stomach and side but catch ourselves on our backs in the middle of the night ... @goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi and thanks for the question! We have reviewed both the WinkBed and the WinkBed Plus, and found them to be more similar than different. I'm not sure why the Plus keeps coming up higher since I don't know all the factors indicated on your quiz, but you might have a look at our written ratings for both of them. For stomach sleeping, both are well suited to people of your size/weight. WinkBed: www.goodbed.com/reviews/winkbed-mattress-review/ WinkBed Plus: www.goodbed.com/reviews/winkbed-plus-mattress-review/ Now that you've take the quiz, you can navigate to any mattress page and see your "match score" for any of the beds in our database, so while the WinkBed Plus keeps rising to the top for you, it could be that the other hybrid mattresses you mention are only a few points different (probably not enough to make a material difference), so certainly check those out if you are looking for a more natural bed. We have reviews for Avocado, which we thought was great for stomach sleeping, but not so much for side sleeping: www.goodbed.com/reviews/avocado-green-mattress-review/ Birch -- good for stomach and side sleeping in your weight range: www.goodbed.com/reviews/birch-mattress-review/ and Brentwood Cedar -- great for stomach sleeping but only so-so for side sleeping: www.goodbed.com/reviews/brentwood-home-cedar-mattress-review/ Given that you and your wife are combo sleepers, the Birch looks like the better choice among those three natural mattresses you mention you're interested in. I'm down to choosing between this one and Idle Hybrid's double sided mattress in Luxury Firm, which I hear is also good for heavy sleepers. Thoughts? Wink is $2k, the Idle is $1k on sale.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi -- thanks for the question. We did review an earlier version of the Idle mattress, but they changed the construction almost immediately after we tested it, and we have not yet evaluated the new version. We do know that the body impression warranty -- that's the minimum depth of permanent impression before you can make a warranty claim-- for the Idle is 1". For the Winkbed Plus, it's 1.5". Body impressions are a particular concern for heavier individuals, since body weight + time is what causes mattresses to lose their shape over the years; heavier weight can accelerate that gradual process. Have you taken our GoodBed quiz yet? This is exactly why we developed it. Answer a few questions about your sleeping preferences, budget, and needs and our algorithm will show you which mattresses rank most highly according to your answers. The quiz might turn up some models you have not previously considered that meet your needs. Start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/ Hope that helps!

I had that same debate with myself! I went for the Wink because there were simply not enough reviews of the new Idle (now with 6" rather than 8" coils, for example). Also the Idle added up to about $250 more than the Wink.

Hi and thanks for the comment. WinkBed sells an adjustable base, a box foundation and a frame for the WinkBed. In our video, we are using the Lineal adjustable frame, which we use for all of our videos to keep uniformity. You don't specifically need a box foundation for the WinkBed, but you do need SOME kind of solid foundation, even it its just the floor. My husband and I both got the winkbed plus in twin XL (we sleep on a split King). It has been over a year now and my husband is fine with it but for me it became a torture device. I suffer from lower back pain and thought the firmness would help give me more support. Unfortunately I feel like I hit bottom on this mattress and it causes serious pressure points that have me tossing and turning all night long 😔 I finally dug an old mattress out of the guestroom and have been sleeping better on that. It surprised me to see this mattress get classified as medium firmness, after a short time the padding on top will wear down and this mattress will become extremely firm. Probably best for very heavy back sleepers (like my husband).
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi and thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, the notion that "more firm" is always better for back pain is a myth. It's about finding a mattress that gives you good spinal alignment -- allowing your hips and shoulders to sink in enough so that your spine stays in a neutral (straight) position. And for side sleepers like yourself, pressure relief is also important. If you see our review page for the WinkBed Plus, we didn't find it to be the very best in terms of pressure relief. www.goodbed.com/reviews/winkbed-plus-mattress-review/ So your question is what to do now. Since you already have the split configuration, I'd suggest taking our Mattress Match quiz, where you can specify your personal needs and we can suggest some models that are more likely to meet your side sleeping and pressure relief requirements. You can start the quiz here: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/ Your experience certainly shows how highly personal mattress shopping is -- that a bed that works great for one person might not for another. Very sorry to hear the Plus isn't working for you, but we're sure you'll find another bed more suited to your needs that you can just drop right in. Hope that helps!

@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi Sae. Thank you for the comment. I am assuming that by "sagging" you mean body impressions. That's what most people actually mean when they say "sagging". (In contrast, if a bed is sinking in the middle, that's sagging and it's usually caused by having the wrong foundation). All foams have the potential to retain body impressions, and in our reviews, we look specifically at the type and density of foams to ascertain how long they will last. We talk about that in the "Materials" section and in the "Value" section of all of our videos. We also take a look at the warranty. All warranties include a guarantee against body impressions. For innerspring beds, it's usually 1.5" and for all foam mattresses, 3/4" is the standard. If you are primarily concerned about body impressions, you can look for a mattress with a lower body impression warranty. The WinkBed here is 1.5" but a lot of hybrid/innerspring mattresses have a 1" warranty. The best we've seen recently is the King Koil World Extended Life hybrid mattress, which has a guarantee of just 1/2". You can find our coverage of that bed here: www.goodbed.com/reviews/king-koil-world-extended-life-mattress-preview/ Hope that's helpful!

Does this bed hold up while using an adjustable base?
@goodbed
@goodbed 3 года назад
Hi Colette. Thanks for the question. The WinkBed Plus is perfectly able to be used on an adjustable base. But overall, we expect this mattress would be just fine on an adjustable base! Hope that's helpful.

Would this mattress work well on an adjustable frame?
@goodbed
@goodbed 2 года назад
Hi Jan -- Thanks for your question. We didn't actually have an opportunity to test this particular mattress for adjustable base compatibility. However, according to the company, it is indeed adjustable base compatible. And from many tests we've done of similarly constructed mattresses, we would expect it to perform fairly well on an adjustable base. The only likely issue I would expect would be some possible bunching of the quilt layers when you have both the head and foot fully elevated. However, this is a relatively small consideration that shouldn't materially affect the comfort even in that situation. I hope that's helpful.

Hi Lee -- Thanks for your question. I'm so glad you are paying attention!! 😊 I'm afraid you are right -- we didn't test the WinkBed mattress on our queen size adjustable frame, which is because we were sent a king size test model, so it simply would not fit. @@goodbed You're very welcome. It makes my heart happy to know that you're diligent in your work! Want you to know, your conscientiousness shines through too! You ARE the best bed reviewer out there hands down. Believe you me, I ought to know because I've watched a whole lot of them. Matter of fact, you've been my #1 go to guy for honest bed reviews. Great guy with great bed reviews. Now, I've decided on WinkBed. Seems the company is moving on up since 2014. Yes, seems to me like they're doing pretty good from a financial stand point of view. So much so, that they've been able to purchase some mattress pressing machines! God has blessed them. Now, they can be much more competitive and cost efficient offering beds from a box. You'd agree. Draw back is that currently, they don't have Amazon Pay in checkout. Only Google Pay. So, I called to suggest they add a Amazon Pay button to the cart. Just think of how many more sales they could get with that feature function? Wow! Reason I say this is because Amazon offers it's card holders (18 month no interest) on high dollar sales such as this. Many more people would buy these if they had that type of financial payment option. Hey, it'd be nice if you'd suggest that to them too. They may listen to you more than me. Lol. Please do it for "We the People" and, for WinkBed's prosperity! More sales=more employees=more profits! They can get ahead of the curve with the "Amazon Pay" option. Good businesses help provide the people that are buying their products great financial options to boost sales. You and I both know most everyone uses Amazon Pay. And everyone loves 18 month no interest if paid in full. One more thing. Do you happen to know what the coil gauge specs are in the "firm" version of the Wink? There's a $200 pay difference between Firm and Plus. I like firm. I weigh 230LB. If the firm happened to be too firm then I'd have to buy a latex topper off Amazon. Should I not hassle and just get the Plus? Either way, I know this mattress will last me the rest of my life! I'm 58. Your thoughts?
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi there -- Thanks again for your very kind words! It's always extremely gratifying to hear that the difference in the integrity and depth of our reviews comes across to our viewers. Factors like honesty, objectivity and expertise are unfortunately not easily detectable by computerized search algorithms, so we really hope that when our readers or viewers find us, they can immediately see the difference for themselves. Re: Amazon Pay, that's a great suggestion. We can certainly share feedback like that with companies in any conversations we have them. Re: the coil gauge, as described at 2:36 in the video, the WinkBed Plus uses 13 gauge in the center third and 15 gauge in the head and foot, whereas the regular WinkBeds use 15 gauge in the center third and 17 gauge in the head and foot (all 3 of the regular WinkBeds use the same coil unit). This difference in gauge is definitely non-trivial, so given your stated weight and preference for "firm," I would certainly recommend the Plus over the "Firm" version of regular WinkBed. In addition to the stronger coils, there are some differences in the other components that should benefit you over time as well. I hope that's helpful.

18:10 But how does that air get through the layer of latex up to your body? It wouldn't. That's my question. Would the latex layer make the bed warm for sleeping on. Why would they add latex.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi Chris. When latex is made, it's poured into a mold, and as a result of that process, the entire sheet of latex has what's called "pin core holes" which pierce through the entire piece of finished latex. These are basically little air channels, so air can in fact pass easily through the latex. There are some pictures on our Latex Guide of how it's made, and what those pin core holes look like: www.goodbed.com/latex-mattresses/ Hope that helps!

We are so frustrated with not being able to find a mattress that will last for us for more than 1-1/2 years. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Hi Jim. Thanks for the comment. I certainly feel the frustration. What you're talking about are "body impressions" and it's hands-down the most common complaint about mattresses across the board. We have noted some beds that address this issue with industry-leading warranties against body impressions. The average for hybrid mattresses like the WinkBed is 1.5" but some do much better than that. The King Koil World Extended Life mattress warrants against body impressions of just 1/2" -- meaning that any impression greater than 1/2" would trigger a warranty claim. That's the best we've seen for a hybrid mattress: www.goodbed.com/reviews/king-koil-world-extended-life-mattress-preview/ Tuft and Needle and Tempur-Pedic are both foam mattresses. Both warrant body impressions of 3/4" or greater -- also much better than average warranties. Generally, we find that mattresses that have a lot of quilting, or pillow tops, have a tendency towards body impressions over time because their softer materials compress faster. One idea, if you want a long lasting mattress but also want something super soft, is to buy something like the King Koil, then add an inexpensive and soft mattress topper. That way, you just replace the topper when it wears out rather than having to replace a whole mattress. Hope that's helpful!

My understanding from Winkbeds is that the soft hybrid has 15 gauge pocketed coils and that the lux firm has 14.5 in the lumbar area and 15 all over. It makes sense that the Plus would have the 15 gauge and then the 13 in the lumbar. Not sure where you got the info that they would put 17 gauge in the top and bottom areas? That would be too soft.

Hi Eileen. Thanks for the question. That information came straight from the manufacturer regarding the mattress we tested at the time. @@goodbed - Hi. Actually GoodBed is misunderstanding where the 17 gauge coils are (they are actually the actual micro coils- those gauges are 17 count and in all the hybrid models up in the comfort layer area); the 15 coil gauges are in the base of all the hybrids and the base of the Plus Winkbed as well. The other incorrect information in this video is when you mention that the Plus has a lumbar area with 13 gauge coils - that's not true and wasn't recently changed. The hybrids and the Plus have 14.5 gauge coils in the lumbar area and then 15 gauge coils in the shoulder(head) and leg(feet) areas.

@Eileen Acker Hi there -- Thanks for your follow-up comment. I assume you are getting this information directly from someone at WinkBed, so I really appreciate you bringing these potential discrepancies to our attention. As we noted above, companies do sometimes make changes to their products without notifying us. We will check in with the WinkBed higher-ups to get a definitive answer on whether this aspect of the mattress has indeed changed since our review. That said, with regards to your allegation that this was a "misunderstanding" on our part, I do want to assure you that this was most definitely was not the case. As I would hope is clear in watching or reading our reviews, we take accuracy *very* seriously, so everything in our reviews is carefully researched and clarified in great detail. To put an even finer point on that, when getting the product details from a product manager, it is the norm that the product manager themselves will not be able to readily answer all of our questions, and also quite common for our questions to reveal inaccuracies of which they were not aware. Lastly, when compiling all of this information, we make sure to strip out any flowery marketing claims in order to get down to strictly objective facts that are likely not reported by other "review" websites. As such, I can certainly confirm that everything stated in our review was 100% consistent with information provided to us by the company. For the avoidance of any doubt, here's a diagram of the WinkBed Plus that describes the 3-zoned coil unit -- d.pr/i/JXEoRl -- and here's an excerpt from a conversation with a WinkBed representative that confirms the details about the coil gauges in each zone -- d.pr/i/uvdn5o. Thanks again, and I hope that's helpful.
@eileenacker1964
@eileenacker1964 4 года назад
GoodBed - the texas zoned coil unit means that for the Plus bed base coils every third coil is wrapped together for a more firm support system, however - the gauge of the coils in the plus model and all the hybrid models ate all 15 gauge coils except for the lumbar area in the luxury firm and the Plus - which is 14.5 gauge. The 17 gauge( since you know mattresses) would be way to light to be in a base - so that “range” that Joseph refers to in your link is the gauge of the micro coils in all of the top layers of the hybrids. There is no confirmation from anyone at Winkbeds that they put 17 gauge coils in the head and feet areas of the base coils for the hybrids. The link you sent is all over the place. I have a link myself where the Winkbeds rep was answering specific questions with specific simple answers - no ranges and strange back and forth. Sorry, but I was just trying to pass on what I know from talking to Winkbeds directly. I still feel very strongly that you are either being misinformed or are still somehow misunderstanding the facts about where the 17 gauge coils are and that the Plus mattress has the same base coil gauges and count that the Luxury Firm has -except that the Plus uses the Texas Zoned method to band some of the coils together in the base - for durability and support. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I did do two online chats and one phone call with three different reps all within this last week - and they all verified the info. I wrote down. Maybe the rep Joseph was not understanding your questions?

@@eileenacker1964 Thanks for your comment. I confess I'm puzzled and bemused by how confident you are -- especially about what was true at the time we did this review! Do you by chance work for WinkBeds? If so, I wish you would just state that. If not, I will try not to be offended that you seem to think you've obtained a better understanding of this subject during a few hours of research than a person who has spent over 10 years obtaining information on this subject... 🙂 In any case, once again I do sincerely appreciate your efforts to bring this to our attention and will make sure we reach out to the company to dig into this further. The only possibilities are that: 1) it has changed since our review, 2) we received faulty information from the company at the time of our review, or 3) you have received faulty information recently. There are no other possibilities here that I see. As for your comment about the information we received being "all over the place," I suppose I will leave that for others reading this to judge. Here is the exact information they provided on this topic, taken word for word from the chat I posted above: * WinkBed: The coils are 8 inches tall, the gauges will vary from 13-15 -- 13 in the lumbar area, ranging to 15 for the areas that don't need as much support...The gauges in our less firm beds range from 15-17. * GoodBed: Just to make sure I have this straight, the regular WinkBeds use 15 gauge in the center third and 17 in the head and foot, while the Plus uses 13 and 15. * WinkBed: Precisely! In the case of the WinkBed Plus, we confirmed these construction details in other ways as well, including in our first-hand testing of the WinkBed Plus model shown in this video. TBH I'm not sure what more there is to say on this topic. In any case, thanks again for your comment, and for bringing this to our attention.

how much do you weigh?? this bed doesn't look firm enough, your body is sinking into the mattress!!! I know this wouldn't work for me, I have low back pain on soft mattresses and this sinking would kill my back

Thanks for the comment. Our tester, Mike, weighs about 200 pounds -- keep in mind that the amount of "sink" is not the same as the support of a mattress. The sink/cushioning depth does play a role in spinal alignment, but is also a preference issue that some people like and others don't. Underneath those cushioning layers on the very top, a mattress can and should still be supportive, as this one is. As you mention, some people find that soft/plush mattresses with a lot of cushioning just do not work for them. But it's definitely possible to find a soft mattress that still provides proper spinal alignment. Hope that's helpful!

@@goodbed no, a soft mattress is horrible for back support and back pain! You need a firm strong mattress with strong springs

@@gummybear41283 Again, that may be 100% true for you, but it is most certainly not a universal truth. Thanks again for your comment.

Bought Winkbed. It didn't work. I called within my time frame and got an argument. Now the time has gone by and I cannot return the mattress. They said because I had bought a mattress before, I could pay them half of a brand new mattress, which I don't want to do. My mattress should have been accepted when I called within the time frame, no ifs, ands, or buts. Poor business practices.

Because of what?

They took out the micro coils and put in a cheap patented “lumbar support” foam lmao

We really don't have insight into whether that change was a cost-saving measure or based on customer feedback...

@@goodbedI thought the plus never had micro coils? It's foam, latex, foam, pocketed coils, and then foam. I think he's talking the firmer model? As far as the guy laughing, I'm sure he's an expert lol. Maybe he should share what he owns

@@el34glo59 That sounds right to me. As far as I recall, the Plus always used a latex layer.
