Thank you so much Lisa for being such a beacon in the spinning community. The love you put into each episode is wonderful to witness and the respect you have for each sheep you work with is inspiring. This series is highlighting the importance of understanding the different characteristics of wool for spinners and for knitters. Each swatch has a life of its own, keep sharing your wonders and thank you for being so generous with your offerings - Alexandra.

Am enjoying the breed study tremendously. I first discovered perendale wool when I found some yarn made with it at a rummage sale. It is lovely wool! So interesting how the different wool fibers spin up. There is always something to learn. Thanks so much! Your Icelandic sweater is beautiful! Till next time -- tail wags to all.

Thank you so much for sharing your breed study and taking us through your journey. I am finding it very interesting and very inspiring too. I have dug out my wheel that has been in hiding for over two years, and started to get aquatinted with it again. A bit overwhelmed by how much to learn one has, so much so, it has been in hiding for so long, but thank you for giving me the courage and inspiration. Thank you so much again and look forward to your next episode. Happy knitting, spinning and creating. Vasco 🧶

Hello from the North Island of New Zealand. Really enjoy your podcast. I have spun perendale, love the springy loftiness of this type of fleece. A little difficult to purchase fleece for the handspinner, most seem to buy already carded. Can be quite expensive to get from our South Island, postage rates are high. The most common breeds that hand spinners use here would be Merino, Corriedale and Romney. Love all your spindles too.
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning Год назад
Merino, Corriedale and Romney could keep you busy for a lifetime. All beautiful breeds. I thought maybe Perendale would be easier to get where you are. Postage is very high here too.

The sweater and hat look amazing! It seems like you've picked a really nice gauge to knit--I usually gravitate toward a tighter-knit fabric, but that would have killed the light, airy nature of the sweater. I agree, over time it will just get better and better as the fibers fuse and felt together. Perendale seems like a really interesting wool to try. I'd love to get my hands on a fleece. I've found that my appreciation for longwools has grown a lot since I started working with raw fleece, as I can experience their best qualites. But I'm not sure if this breed can be found outside New Zealand.
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning Год назад
There is a North American Perendale Association so they must be in the States. I have a link to that organization in the description. There may be a list if breeders there. My next sweater will have a tighter gauge I think. It’ll be interested to see how the Icelandic hold up. Thanks for watching!

I always look forward to seeing your next breed study, you are so inspiring in spinning and your hanks, wow, very uniform. Your Iceland jumper is so pretty, I can't wait to see your cardigan. One question I have for The Principles of Knitting Book, what M1 doesn't cause a hole? I twist the yarn with a crochet hook before slipping it on my left needle then knit the twisted yarn to create a stitch, is there a better technique? I will be on the look out for my copy! Thanks!
@SoulfulSpinning
@SoulfulSpinning Год назад
That’s a great question. I sometimes get a noticeable hole when I do the M1 increases into the running thread. The book covers increases quite extensively. The author states that the raised increases (also known as lifted) esp. if worked close to the needle tips is very unobtrusive. Here is a link for you. ysolda.com/blogs/journal/how-to-work-lifted-increases

Lovely wool, and I love how the stitches turned out in the square! I’m currently spinning some Cheviot with my newest bee-spindle (as the daughter of a beekeeper, I am On Brand! GORGEOUS pictures; easy beginners’ patterns. Great history, and several different types of stitches (there’s a mind-boggling amount of different stitches…). Great book!

Very much enjoying the breeds study, so interesting. Jumper looks very good. I have been a spinner for 40 years, but not a good spindle spinner. After seeing your episode on which spindles you have, I purchased a Turkish spindle from IST Crafts in East Anglian bog oak, couldn’t resist, as I live in East Anglia, England. What a difference a spindle can make. Thank you for your recommendation.

fascinating to hear about Peren, what an incredible life and Massey has become the biggest land sciences university in NZ with campuses in both islands. Looking at that bright white corriedale I wonder if you had thought about dying it. I have played around with food colouring and have got some really lovely colours and it is a very easy process that needs either citric acid or white vinegar to fix the colour, I usually soak the wool in a vinegar solution and add citric acid to the de bath so the house doesn't smell like a pickle factory.

I am thinking of dyeing the finished Corriedale yarn. I think it would take the dye beautifully.

Love your finished sweater and hat. An amazing effort to complete this so quickly!

Thank you for all of the information on perendale. I wish I could make such pretty yarn. That book you shared is huge. I've borrowed it from the library but it just isn't for me. It felt dry and the knitting terms were outdated. I know many people find it useful though. Your finished sweater and hat are so pretty on you and the fiber batt looks so soft.

I agree the book is very drive and not very conversational. But it is a quite a resource nevertheless!

❤️ Your spinning of the Perendale is, as usual, so balanced and lovely. I’m so happy that you did a show and tell with your new jumper and hat! The pink and white are perfect with your coloring!! 🧶

I have that book - a weighty tome, indeed. These days, I tend to use the internet for specific questions and books for browsing and dreaming. Barbara Walker's stitch dictionaries are favorites. Thanks for another enjoyable episode. You look so bright and cheery in your new outfit!

Walkers stitch dictionaries are amazing. I only wish they were charted.

Congrats on the jumper and hat! Both look great from ribbing on the bottom to pompon on the top. 😊Thank you for sharing your projects. It’s absolutely suitable to boast 🎉❤ as laborious projects like that mend soul and bring immense satisfaction! Being a knitter for over 44 years, but only a spinner (since I learned from your videos circa 2021) I have yet knit my own sweater from my own yarn. I made many projects but a sweater. I wonder HOW MUCH your sweater weight? And if you tracked yardage?

'I've loved your breed studies, which taught me so much. Wonder if you've thought about doing a 2nd one ( you will need more squares for your blanket!)?

There are many more breeds to try out and I will need many more squares to make a blanket. So yes, more will be coming!

You need to take a Sligh ride in the woods and enjoy hot chocolate. RU-vid, working horses 🐎 with Jim. They do Sligh rides with 2 butteiful team of horses. You could wear your sweeter and hat then.
