I personally watch home health aides, landscape workers, nanny's, house cleaners, etc. work their asses off for peanuts while their employers get rich doing a little paperwork and dodging taxes. They create value? Capitalism and modern economics is all about top-down exploitation for maximum profit. Profit that is only SHARED to stockholders, not the actual producers that ACTUALLY create the VALUE. This all comes at a cost to society. It destroys communities, families through hardship, the environment, depletes the resources and every species on earth. Everything other than profit is an "EXTERNALITY" with no consequences considered. WOW, I needed to vent.

The powers that be know exactly how to throw just enough crumbs to keep people going. The US will probably not see mass hunger or mass homelessness. That sort of desperation is the only way the civil unrest could get bad enough to force some sort of change. Most people that are just getting by aren’t just going to risk that for some vague higher ideal. They’re gonna Netflix and chill and maybe have a smoke or a drink. A fair compromise as I see it is using electoral politics to push us toward a Euro-style social democracy. It does not solve poverty but it does provide for a more stable poverty. And even then there are very high barriers to that...the people are still very afraid of the socialist label. But I think things like general strikes and mass, prolonged protests are out of the question for America
