I will never understand buying designer gear, drinking out loads but living off cheap pasta/ noodles. IMO eating well is the one of the best investments you can make. You can still maintain a budget, while eating well. Fresh produce, good quality meat, fruit, a good set of herbs for from scratch sauces, etc. It is worth every penny for your long term health.

My mom was like this to a degree. It was all paranoia and class anxiety. Very sad. She failed to realize that no strangers looked on her and thought to themselves she was rich like she wanted. They usually weren't thinking about her much at all. She wasn't hiding very well.

This girl is an advertiser's dream! Gavin says she is "An independent woman" No she isn't! He is paying the bulk of the bills, she mooches off her friends, leans on credit up the wazoo, how is that being 'Independent'? More like she is stubborn and childish, and he is uncomfortable confronting her, because it likely ends in a fight, so he stuffs his emotions as well!

When my husband and I first moved in together 18 years ago, I found out very quickly that he was a brand snob- food, clothes, vehicles, everything had to be name brand. I was raised by my grandparents and we were always on a budget, so I learned early on how to bargain shop. Well out agreement was that I would buy the groceries for the home and pay the power bill while he paid rent and everything else (I didn’t make as much money as he did, and I was 19 years old). He started complaining about the store brand foods I was buying. I know not everything store brand tastes good, but for the most part there is no real difference. Well I decided to teach him a lesson after he complained about the bread I bought 2 weeks in a row. I bought the bread he wanted and let him eat that loaf. Then I kept the package and put a loaf of store brand bread into it (Walmart brand bread in a Sara Lee package) and let him eat it. I did this for 2 weeks in a row before I told him what he had been eating! When he realized he couldn’t actually tell there was much of a difference at all, he shut up about it and let me buy whatever groceries I wanted to buy 😂😂😂 I will admit I buy Sara Lee bread these days, but we aren’t as broke as we were back then either 😂

No. Don’t marry someone like that! That’s your credit! That’s your future. They will come after you. It is seriously a huge deal. I filed bankruptcy at 24 because of medical debt and it was a life saver for me and I have fixed my credit way more than people thought I could so fast. I could never imagine being in that amount of debt over just things. I almost died so I at least had my life to show for it.

She could literally sell all that she doesn't wear and make some of that money back

Now days with online shopping, ill add items to my cart. If I still really want the item after keeping it in there for a few days, then I know its not an impulse buy. Most of the time I end up deleting it. If I buy something from the shops, if I'm not excited to wear it right away, I know it will sit in my closet, so I'll return it. This has helped me a lot

It’s a sad addiction. Like someone doing drugs, buying things make her feel better. She’s trying to overcome her insecurities which could be her looks, her weight, her unhappiness etc. She even admits it makes her feel good. Before I got married to my husband of 25 years he made me pay off my $5,000 credit card debt. It’s a horrible way to start a marriage. Hope she gets the help she needs.

I actually feel sorry for Gavin. She’s got a good one there, putting his security at risk and talking of clearing ‘our’ debts. I’m sad to say that I don’t think she took it on board, she was just saying what the cameras wanted to hear. She seems... emotionless? Would be interesting to know if they made it...

I'm 60 years old and still haven't the faintest desire to buy ANYTHING 'designer'. I've never bought anything 'designer' for that matter, unless you include 'George' as a designer brand, lol!

There is a happy ending. I found her on Facebook.She has shed the weight, married her beloved and had lovely children. Under the extra poundage a very pretty woman was hiding. She has a career and must have addressed the debt. Banks should never lend to the young and vulnerable.

When I was 21 I spent my money on a good psychologist, because I didn't deny the problems I got by my parents behaviour. That's what all spendaholics should do, cause an addiction only covers your psychological and emotional problems. Learning and healing and thinking healthily is far more important than stuff.

Entertaining but the number of balloons that were just realized for that little bit hurt my soul. So much unnecessary plastic waste that birds can eat and starve on.

I’m bipolar and in my manic episodes I put myself into some bad financial situations, but even during those times I was actively focused on trying to repair it. I can’t imagine how someone can not care at all about spending so far above their means.

If I were her fiance, I would have noped out of there a long time ago. Her spending was a huge red flag that she would bankrupt them both. If she really changed from this help, good. But I have to think that her fiance will be in constant fear that she will relapse and take them both down, which often happens with addictions of any kind.

OK, I’m going to say this - the banks & credit card companies need to look at themselves a bit here - lending that much to someone on such a small salary. They need to be ashamed. I’m hoping their ‘responsible lending’ criteria is a bit stricter now, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Saw her up-to-date social media, she lost a lot of weight, they got married, and they look happy. I'm so glad for them that they turned things around. I don't know how bankruptcy court works in the UK, but they may or may not have had to use it. What ever they had to do, it worked. Good for them.

Why is the principle of "don't spend what you don't have" so incredibly hard to understand? Even if this was before the 2008 crisis? All my leggings have holes in them. I can't buy new ones because It's that or groceries. So I fix them. Ofcourse making sure they still look good😉. And most of the time I don't mind because it is what it is. The utmost important thing for me is staying out of debt. In which ever way possible. And so far I've managed😊..... I think this child, cause that's what she is, has a lot to learn about life and how to deal with it.

She is so blessed to have so much help. I hope she really has learned her lesson and will move forward

"Short term sacrifice, long term gain" is one of the best legacies my father has given me. Her behaviors of avoidance and indulgence - in unhealthy food, clothing, make-up, wine, anything shiny - was not serving her well in the long run. Good on her for starting to address them now at a young age.

This episode is a proof that no matter how much money you spend on makeup, it won't make you any better looking.

I have always enjoyed this show but on this occasion I find it astonishing that a 'financial whizz' would give this girl a £40 per month budget for clothes/shoes (which she certainly didn't need !) rather than allocate some money towards her debt. The mind boggles. 🤔. I don't see the need to be mean about her personal appearance. This is a very old show and it's about her finances, not her shape/size.

Tiffany Ferg (youtuber) has made amazing videos showcasing how she has paid off her severe debt from college, and credit cards. She has put a massive dent in her debt and I believe she has almost paid it off. She gives way better advice and breakdown then this show ever will.
