33-year-old Glenda is drowning in £24,400 of debt, not that she’d know it. She earns £18,000 but saves none of it. Most is spent on designer gear for her 7-year-old daughter, Leah. Glenda faces bankruptcy. Meanwhile, her relationship with her husband is at breaking point. It’s time to send in the professionals.

I feel like they just buy off the rack designer when they could be spending money on private label at that price. Its more about acquiring the status from the clothes I think. Like I work as a tailor and I LOVE clothes xD but I could never shop like this lady. Agreed, people romanticize Y2K clothing now, but in reality it was awful 😂😂

Perhaps, because you know that you don't look great, you are always searching for something to wear that makes you feel more pretty? I always search for clothing in which you don't see how fat I am. But since everything looks awful on me when I'm in a shop, I don't buy it.

And at 7 they shouldn't care. Glenda has started something that is going to be a REAL problem when that girl is a teenager. She's going to want the newest "thing" the minute it comes available. I remember my father's response to us kids saying we wanted something. For me it was a pair of bell bottom jeans in the 1960's when hippies were setting the fashion trends. My Dad asked me "What's wrong with the jeans you have now? Are they torn or too small?" I said "No" and he said "Well, that's your answer then. We don't buy clothes just to keep up with somebody's idea of "fashion". He always used to say at the end of those conversations "Your clothes are clean and paid for. Nothing else matters."

@astrothsknot
@astrothsknot 3 года назад
@@sarah3796 not legally, unless it is actually a debt which is specified as a joint and several liability. A mortgage in joint names, married or not is both your debt. that same mortgage in one name is only the mortgage of that name, married or not, thus the time honoured tradition in Ireland and Britain of shoving assets in the spouses' name to avoid debt liability. I used to work in debt management charities in the UK, and was employed as such around the time this was filmed. Couples may choose (a la Dave Ramsey) to combine debts and assets, but that's not an actual legal position apart from strictly defined legal debts and circumstances ( council tax, certain utility bills, secondary card holders.). Marriage often makes no difference to whether or not a debt is shared. Consumer debt like credit cards, usually is the persons' own. Recovery of jointly held assets to cover one person's' individual debt is often where it can get tricky and legally fascinating, ranging from forced sale of an asset but only to the half of the debt owned by the singular debtor, with the other party recieving half of the value, to being unable to recover the debt because they can't legally recover on a joint asset eg a house put up as collateral without the knowledge of the other. heritable property is interesting - unless both parties own the house, a married person can be thrown out with nothing, because being married only gives you the right to stay there. it doesn't give you any rights to the house in the event of a divorce. (My brother and his wife have been together for 25 years, but he was never on the deeds or mortgage of the flat they shared, to exploit a legal loophole. when they sold that flat five years ago, he was able to claim first time buyer discounts for his half of the mortgage, because he technically had never owned a flat nor had a mortgage, despite being married to and and residing with the owner of the flat, in that flat for 18 years at that point. I give this example to show how a person's debts and assets remain their own, regardless of marital status, unless explicitly legally specified.) Bereavements depend on if there's a will or not and in the UK at least, there's percentages that spouses and children inherit.

@Alina McPherson These people live in Ireland, not the tropics. Bananas can be stored in the produce drawer of the fridge once they are fully ripened, those bananas didn't look fully ripened. The fridge will slow down the ripening process a lot, which is not a good thing. As for the canned food, they didn't look opened. In any case, opened cans shouldn't be stored in the fridge because metals and BPA can leach into food. The food should be transferred to a storage container before refrigerating.

Well done. I think it’s really special and brave to put yourself out in the front line and share intimate feelings. I’m sure listening to your story might help many who are in similar situations. It’s so easy for things to get out of control. The fact that your daughter and your husband really enjoy just being a family with you doing things that don’t cost money is a wonderful achievement. I wish you all a wonderful life. Stay safe and enjoy the little things. X

@mnb1988
@mnb1988 5 месяцев назад
@@beaulieuc8910 no. I will not be buying them cars. They don’t have uniforms and even if they did you don’t have to buy the most expensive ones out there. Kids do cost money. But they don’t have to be as expensive as many people make it out to be. You don’t have to follow trends and waste money on the next gadget. My kids don’t have their own tablets, computers or phones, they get clothes on sale and no designer anything, I don’t change the decorations in their rooms, they don’t get the latest craze (think Stanley cups right now), certain things are purchased second hand and other things are hand me downs. People make it seem like kids cost sooooo much money, they do if you make poor choices on what to buy. I have a $3k car that fits all my kids. Kids can share bedrooms, or have small bedrooms they don’t need a ton of space to sleep. My kids have had two beds, the cribs they were in as babies and then they got upgraded those beds are now 5 years old and I’m not replacing them again. Kids are more affordable than some would have you believe.

That's right, momma, turn your daughter extremely shallow @ a very young age! Make your daughter believe that if she wants expensive items, just get someone else to pay for it! When will people learn that when paying for name brand articles, you are ONLY paying for the name! You are NOT paying for strong, durable, long lasting clothes, just the name!

Heard a lot of us and we when talking about the debt, not a lot of I and me about how it came about and even at the end Glenda wasn't really taking all the responsibility. When it came to her low self esteem I think getting to the gym and eating a healthier diet and losing weight would go miles towards feeling better about herself. Felt sorry for Leah being dragged around shopping malls when all she wanted was to be around horses.
