Join me in this captivating woodturning adventure as I transform a fallen Ash tree, salvaged from a storm in early 2022, into a remarkable bowl with intricate textures and mesmerizing colours. Inspired by the talented Emma, ‪@TheTinyTurner‬, I take you through the process of creating a truly unique piece of art.
In March 2022, I began processing and seasoning the Ash wood, preparing it for its new purpose. With the inspiration of Emma's techniques and designs, I utilized my trusty ‪@DremelUK‬ 8260 and their number 117 High-Speed cutter to skilfully carve a textured strip around the side of the bowl. To add a touch of magic, I embellished the textured strip with Emma's enchanting Mermaid chameleon flakes.
The foundation for the chameleon flakes was created using Jo Sonja's Gesso paint, followed by Metal Leaf Size for optimal adhesion. To accentuate the visual appeal, I meticulously glued a string of faux leather on each side of the textured strip, using the reliable O3 Adhesives Thick glue.
To protect and enhance the rest of the bowl, I sealed it with ‪@ChestnutProducts‬ cellulose sanding sealer. Then, utilizing Yorkshire Grit from ‪@EasyWoodTools‬ I achieved a smooth, polished surface that's a delight to touch. Finally, I applied a lustrous finish using Chestnut Products Microcrystalline wax, ensuring a long-lasting beauty.
Signing my creation became a personalized experience using the Dremel Engraver. I meticulously engraved my signature over a custom paper template, and the grooves were filled with vibrant green mica powder, accentuated by the reliable O3 Adhesives Thin glue.
Discover the joy of transforming salvaged wood into a stunning work of art, incorporating textures, colors, and unique details. Whether you're an avid woodturner or simply appreciate the beauty of handcrafted objects, this video is sure to inspire your creative journey.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. Unfortunately I cannot take credit for this design as it is based on Emma the Tiny Turner's designs. Though doing this definitely gives me ideas for future projects.

Very nice project John. I like narration in the “making” videos I watch on RU-vid So keep it up, even if your up past midnight 😂 Loving the colour 👍

Thank you so much mate, really appreciate the feedback. Yeah, my wife did question me about the time I went to bed... she did have that disapproving look in her eyes! 🤣🙈 I will have try to do it more, but there may be some videos that end up without the narration depending on how much time I get for editing.

Thank you so much. I will definitely try and do more of it in the future, but it all depends on the time I have... I was criticised last night for the time I actually went to bed in the end.

@user-ff3uw5el9w it's all good fun testing out different methods and seeing what works for me. Hopefully I will be able to build the narration into more of my videos as time progresses

Mate I love that texturing and the mica powder looked great I’ll have to give that a try myself. I need to send you one of my stickers too 👍🏻

@JiggsysShed Год назад
Cheers mate. Not sure what made me think of using the mica powder, but it definitely worked well. Will definitely be doing that more often. I do have one of your stickers, just have not got round to shouting it out yet. I got loads at Makers and am doing 5 shout outs per video. Yours is definitely coming up soon!

Thank you Huw. Yes it did take some time to do, so definitely won't be able to do it for every video.

I am too traditional, I would have stopped before coloring and loved it at that point.

Well, I do have plenty more ash to turn, so there will definitely be some that will be just natural. I do love both formats and always enjoy exploring different techniques.

I like everything about this video except the music vocals. Instrumentals would be much preferred over vocals. I stopped watching certain videos because the vocals were not to my taste. YMMV.

Thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate the feedback. Often my music choices are related to what I feel like listening to at the time of editing, for instance on this occasion it was 80's rock and the songs in this video were the options I was given. I appreciate that not everyone will like the same music as me, so I do try and vary what I put in my videos. Thank you again.
