The story was finished, I don’t really get how anyone thought a sequel was a good idea at all. It’s super hard to build on something as open and shut as Megamind.
@@qwertyasdf4081 If done right im not only sure it couldve had a sequel but it couldve been even better than the original. Since the only reason megamind won is because he gave hal powers and so he had the means to just take them back. All he did was correct his mistake but the sequel could possibly been facing a villain powerful enough to force him to truly evolve in more ways than one. Im not a good writer so I dont know exactly where it could go but i see potential in a sequel
Bad visuals, no original voice actors, no original composers, story sucks, plot doesn't make sense, and barely any advertisement I wonder how bad the show is
Yeah like we can all agree that there is no megamind 2, no really, there is not such thing as a megamind 2 there is not a doom syndicate there is no megamind rules no please tell along me: there is not a MEGAMIND 2
Another thing is that it doesn’t follow the plot of the first movie at all either. Megamind has always been alone. It was literally stated in the first movie his only friend is Minion. Yet in this movie he apparently had an “Old Crew” which goes against everything the first movie told us about Megamind’s character.
Not only that but in the original movie minion and megamind are separated (from what I can remember) and get back together and resolve their issues. In the new "sequel", they do the exact same thing all over again. It's ridiculous.
Megamind closed his story by the end of the first movie. There was NO REASON this movie should ever exist, they just ham-fisted a lazy overused narrative into this series.
I haven't watched the movie but it honestly just sounds like it added nothing to the already complete story. I wish we could have seen Megamind and Metroman working together, either fighting criminals or writing music or something. Megamind would need help adjusting to such a drastic change in lifestyle, there was infinitely many more interesting things they could've done instead.
@@thekingofnothing8895 I remember having this random dream that there actually was a megamind sequel and it had like, copycat heroes/villains of Megamind and Metroman or smth and a whole narrative about legacy and your past catching up to you and tbh, I remember being more invested in that random dream than I do in this lol
@user-gw3bs2in5i sounds like a pretty dope dream my man, I wish my dreams were that cool. I just dream about riding pancakes and other weird stuff. Ngl I'm more invested in your dream than this movie also
Literally Titan to Dreamworks: There is no Transformers: The last Knight, There is No Pacific Rim: Uprising, and there is no Megamind Vs The Doom Syndicate
I’m usually pretty good about finding and seeing all the new and upcoming films, especially animated ones. I honestly didn’t hear any noise about this movie. Definitely agree that’s a huge red flag
At this point I feel like Charlie is just fishing for content, because why in tf would you attempt to watch a megamind sequel with no advertising and expect anything good out of it. He really needs to stop reviewing children’s movies and shows😂
The director actually said he was proud of how the studio worked under-budget and loved the voice actors. Whatever they're paying him to spin this as good, it isn't enough.
The fact that this movie looks like it was made for just children yet the original fans of Megamind are clearly adults by now and no kids today would be remotely as aware of the existence of Megamind as the old fans would is extremely confusing. So who exactly was this made for?
My boyfriend used to work at a movie theater and says that studios always save their worst movies to release during the start of the new year. Due to consumer spending after the holidays, movies in January/February never do well anyway
Maybe this sequel is also for kids to enjoy just like when we were kids adult critics probably thought the megamind we grew up with was stupid but we enjoyed it regardless without holding it to any standards
The fact I heard nothing about this Megamind 2 movie - not one commercial, one trailer, one mention ANYWHERE is already enough of a red flag to me to not want anything to do with it. It is a cheap cash grab that they knew would perform BADLY, which is why no mention. this movie would of been straight to the 1-3 dollar DVD bin before streaming became so prevalent. Whoever greenlighted this has zero shame and no concern about making anything approaching a quality product.
I think Peacock knew that if they raped a beloved film like megamind they knew haters would buy their service (even just for a mere month) to see it, Genuinely makes me sad how people these days have no care for art.
They shat on the animation. They shat on the story. They shat on Megamind’s personality. They shat on the comedy. Why was this made if they were going to completely destroy the canon lore and the protagonist’s personality?
This movie is ironically the embodiment of Titan: Is complete trash but doesn't realize it and thinks it's great Wants fame and power and money to feel important Exists for the purpose of destroying Megamind
@@LoveMyUnusual likely and you could make a counter arguement that the project is bad and thus no one wanted to see it, being a poor quality cash in, rather than a fire sequel we all deserved. I'm glad more people have been voting with their time and money and if everyone simultaneously just doesn't support actual trash, then it's treated as trash, while the good content has been rewarded quite handsomely, who knows, maybe someday we'll get that Megamind Sequel we all deserve, go for Megamind joining a Justice League parody to team up to face a planetary threat that gets personal while accepting the responsibilities of being the hero he now is.
@@bobafett4265 It's a joke about how Titan got pissed at the girl he wanted to date and accused her of being unsupportive and not liking him for who he is

@@cashthecurator666 ya I started re watching ice age again because it was a big part of my child hood. I know one of the buck movies was ok where they find the dinosaurs or something but then I tried to watch one of the really new ones and the actors were different trying to sound like the real ones the animation was garbage I could not watch it. It’s literally just bs stuff made for babies now
The reason this movie looks and is so awful is because it was produced by the T.V. Department of Dreamworks rather than the main animation studio (which is making quite good films right now). The T.V. department, ever since Universal bought dreamworks, has massively deteriated in quality and their mindset had shifted. Originally, it was about expanding universes they had created in their movies through good quality T.V. shows (ex. Dragon's race to the Edge was received very well). However, ever since universal took over, the focus shifted to making products as fast as they could and making the most money. (sticking to dragons, the new show under Universal, the Nine Realms was received horribly) This is why Megamind 2 was even greenlit in the first place: Universal comes in, turns tv department into a quick money maker, and green-lit this project.
Also it COULD have looked good! To piggyback off your point about expanded universes, you know another movie that was seamlessly integrated into a tv show after a resounding box office success? Jimmy Neutron!
I said this when I saw the trailer. This is not a movie. It is a series pilot. This was planned, from the ground up, to launch a cash grab series. I called it from the start, they had no story. Megamind, in the first movie, was shown to be a very isolated person. The entire movie was about him trying to find his place, and it was shown, clearly, that the fish was the only person he really talked to. And now suddenly this "doom syndicate" is his old crew? And that is only one of the many points you can bring up.
It would've been slightly more believable if they were aliens trying to sway him because they heard about his evil accomplishments. But that would've taken actual creative direction.
@@officebear4637 He makes it all the way to years of adulthood battling his nemesis and literally nobody in the entire story brings up this supposed past of villainy as part of a group? The movie is *very* clear he hasn't had anyone but the fish since he first left the prison he was raised in. Battling Metro Man and the catty captor/captive banter with Roxanne after kidnapping her are the closest things to human connection he has. It's literally just being pulled out of their asses because they don't have a story to tell.
The existence of this travesty is baffling until you realize it's a pilot for a micro budget content mill space-filler show. The parent company ordered "Ages 5 and under cartoon, movie + season, budget $10,000" for the Peacock streaming service, Megamind was an available IP, and some staff were assigned from the available pool. This could have just as easily been Over the Hedge 2. It genuinely didn't matter to the content mill that produced this.
It's like they were trying to repeat the success that they had with the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, but couldn't be bothered to give it a decent budget, good writers, or good animators. They really dropped the ball on this one.
if I'm being honest though, the show although probably better then this, was not to great. I remember there being whole season arcs, loads of filler and then 2 pay of episodes which didn't pay anything of to well except set up the next season. As some one who watched before going to school as well, missing one episode would ruin a season.
This just breaks my heart to see that a beloved movie that I grew up on and loved has a sequel and it doesn’t have the original cast it’s most likely written by AI and it’s just a pointless cash grab.
The more painful thing is, people like us can write an even better sequel that's in line with the lore than an actual studio could ever do (Seen some comments that would've been better to be animated than what we got)
That's why I always say earlier movies look and are way better than Morden ones. Hell the modern ones suck the life out of me. They're so boring. EDIT: what I mean by early movies. I'm talking about 2000-2009 imo
There are cycles to tech development. Remember how good physical special effects were getting, and then we got HORRIBLE cgi? But now CGI is as close to realistic as we can get it. You gotta suck at something to get sorta good at something. Gotta hear what people hate to make something better. That's why. Not saying this is great but it's the explanation for why we feel like shit downgrades with new tech
It doesn’t even make sense to turn this into a kids show… it’s been 14 years, the people that actually appreciate this story are in their 20s and actual kids I don’t really think they have any interest on the franchise. They could’ve make the same sheety story with different characters and that’s it they make their money and nobody gives a f
I was about to say that I'm still a teen.. but I realized I'm going to be 20 in a little more then 2 years💀 Yes I'm still a teenager though. and this movie has me heartbroken. Megamind was the best movie ever.
As a teenager myself, I love megamind. It was an awesome movie, worthy of all the praise in the world. This? This is pig slop. Pet food. Absolute shit water. Disgusting, corporate, and greedy.
They basically created one of those Disney direct-to-DVD sequels but for Megamind and on a streaming service. It's all about trying to cash in on how much Megamind blew up recently
Reading makes you mentally disabled and unable to use the bathroom properly. Studies have shown from the University of Trust me Bro and take my word for it that reading will make you increasingly stupidder and playing video games and porn are better than a boring book.
This is what happens when you don't pay your animators.... huge issue in the post-production industry is underpaid artists putting out lackluster work under insane deadlines, then getting dropped after their contract is up
Buddy, no amount of over seas fiverr animation outsourcing could have saved this shitpile. It was DOA the minute they greenlit the script. It was a bad idea from it's inception but nobody said "no" because the industry is desperately trying to make their coveted business model of subscriptions work with the same tired strategy of minmaxing the quantity of content on your platform at the expense of quality. At least with Direct to DVD they actually made money on every DVD sold, no way they're getting people to subscribe explicitly to watch this pathetic excuse of a sequel
"If you put this movie on when you were pregnant, even your fetus would be bothered by it, it would start kicking and throwing a tantrum, trying to find way to strangle itself with your umbilical cord" Freakin' classic 😂🤣😂🤣
no this is all bcuz Holleywood is woke this movie writen by woke millenials who care more about there gender 😂😂😂😂 every movie n game these days is bad cuz of ppl like druck man and lizzo
My best guess is that someone stole all their footage at some point, like what's happened to Foodfight, but they refused to give up and re-rendered whatever they could and stitched it together for a slop release.
You know, the really sad part is, they could've done a cool sequel and have it be a little more on the interpersonal side where one of Metro-man's nemesis returns and learns that he's "Dead" and Megamind taking his place, only to enrage the guy and feel like his thunder has been stolen. The whole moral quandary being that Megamind doesn't want to fight him because he used to be evil too. Best part is, you can have it end with the bad guy nearly being destroyed by one of Megamind's contraptions, only to be saved by the guy himself, causing the antagonist to go through his own personal issues now because he's uncertain how to feel about having his life saved by a former Villain turned hero. Maybe even have it so ending teases the Doom Syndicate for the TV series and help emphasize that Megamind has to hold up Metroman's old responsibilities.
The original Disney Pixar Cars movie came out when I was just a little kid. Fast-forward to the release of Cars 3, they knew the old fans would be returning, so they catered to more of a mid-teens to early adult audience, focusing on McQueen getting older, and eventually retiring from racing. As someone who grew up as a fan, it was an awesome way to close the franchise. I wish Megamind woulda either done this, or just not made a second entry at all.
Another example of that is Monsters Inc. and Monsters University. Was done amazingly, and released a college based movie when the originals kid viewers were college age.
@@WikterRor2807 It was probably intended to be the backdoor pilot to a generic shitty TV show that Peacock wants to release. They probably didnt expect any of the OG fans to be interested in this seeing as the humour and story seems to be geared towards children. Except the opposite happened and now both Dreamworks and Peacock look like money hungry fools and everyone is disappointed.
The "Its made for kids" is such a bad argument for quality. Give a kid a badly tuned toy instrument, and that kid will grow up tone deaf. Give a kid a shitty show, and that kid will grow up with a lower standard for quality. Avatar is the greatest example. No one would be talking about it today if it was given the same quality control as Miraculous Ladybug, which seems to be the same amount this movie and its shitty spin-off got.
A good example of kids needing good content is Pokemon,my little pony friendship is magic, sonic. Like there’s tons of good shows/movies that people have grown up with that they still watch as adults because it’s good content yet you have people nowadays that think that they can just throw literal shit at kids and expect the parents to buy it for them I don’t plan on having kids but if I had kids I wouldn’t buy them anything that I didn’t think was worth buying because I could just give them all my toys, video games, movies, etc
Its textbook Aladdin: return of jafar. When that trailer dropped people were so excited, but it was just a direct-to-dvd quality movie meant to kickoff a TV show
it also has horrible continuity errors. megamind didnt have any friends growing up other than the fish guy. how would he have an old group of villain friends???????
It's how I feel about reboots or remakes. Stop remaking the games or movies that were already perfect. Go back and remake the games and movies that sucked ass but had a good idea.
I don't understand how it's unfortunate. It didn't need a sequel and it never got a sequel... I don't understand why everyone is spreading misinformation and fake news ❤️
This is so dated. It feels like those straight to DVD sequels in the 90s and 2000s they're just 2-3 episodes of a scrapped TV pilot stitched together and released as a full movie. Like Atlantis 2 or Beauty and the Beast 2.
Direct to Streaming is the new Direct to DVD because DVDs are kinda out now. Also, correct me if I’m wrong, but this is the first lowkey “Direct to DVD-esque” Dreamworks Sequel they’ve made. Not counting the shows or original concepts they’ve had on streaming or TV, every other sequel has made it to theaters.
From what I've heard, that's exactly what it is. This was originally going to be aired alongside their lackluster "Monsters vs Aliens" TV show back in the day.
@@Manticorn i can definitely believe that, it has a similar animation style as the other dreamworks shows that aired on nickelodeon/CN (kung fu panda, penguins of madagascar, & httyd all had their own shows around 2011/2012)
I think the main reason it doesn't look good and doesn't make sense is because it wasn't made by dreamworks themselves. It was made by the television company which has made several shows that lasted at least a year before being done.
"A good show, even if it's aimed at a younger audience can be appreciated and enjoyed by people of all ages" -> Wall-E -> The Incredibles -> Puss in Boots 2 Just to give a very small amount of examples
Lego movie Zootopia Across and Into the spiderverse Up Ed Edd and Eddy movie Lion King Mulan There are so many examples and to excuse dogshit writing as "it's just for kids" is ridiculous
With the show Megamind rulez all I can say the finale of that show better do what they did with the Puss in boots show on Netflix. Reboot the time and pretend the sequel movie and the show didn’t happen.
Fun fact: one of the cast members of this travesty Adam Lambert is the lead singer of Queen was also in a dogcrap Playmobil Movie and it's even worse. I feel bad for him only because he stars in a lot of garbage-tier shows and movies. (other than a cameo in Bohemian Rhapsody which was good)
I was sad because my best friend who died and myself really loved the original Megamind, so when I heard about the sequel I was bummed he wasn't gonna see It. I feel better now.
Doom Syndicate is like the antithesis of being timeless. You go back over decade and you see better animation churned out by the studio who made Space Chimps, you look around today and see better CG animation done by RU-vidrs. Hell, even past TV shows based on Dreamworks’ films looked better than this, this limp Megamind revival exists solely to baffle progress.
You know what makes me incredibly sad? This movie is after Puss in Boots, an incredible animated masterpiece. Heck, Kung Fu Panda 4 looks great too! What happened.

Fun fact the villains in this are a rework of the ones for the Nintendo Wii game so I'm convinced they saw how people wanted a second movie and threw this together by looking at the game and said "Hey remember those villains from that Megamind game very few people played let's make a different version of that into a movie easy money."
When I watched the trailer, I immediately remembered that they were the same villains from the Wii game. I didn't even know there was a different version for the PlayStation until now. Kind of like a Skylanders on the DS situation
Your description of the "boss fights" remind me of the first "Ghost Rider" movie. Ghost Rider encounters first bad guy: "You'll never defeat me!" Ghost Rider performs move and instantly defeats him. Ghost Rider encounters second bad guy: "You'll never defeat me!" Ghost Rider performs move and doesn't defeat him. "Ha Ha Ha! That move won't work on me!" Ghost Rider performs different move. "NO! That move DOES work on me!"
Can't believe that they copied the premise of Despicable Me 3. You know what would be a better plot? The Doom Syndicate attacks Metro City because they see it as defenseless since there is no Metroman and they don't take Megamind seriously.
This is actually the best plot twist/continuation idea after what happened in the original lore. New bigger enemies unassociated with the previous one fighting the old heroes/antagonists alike because it's time for a new era of chaos or something like that
How did you make a better plot that manages to keep the whole story of the last movie in tact and doesn’t have to retcon anything than a group of paid fucking writers who actually wrote the original script and patted themselves on the back for making probably the worst film of the decade
They probably knew how shitty it was. I just watched the trailer and truly considered watching the Miracolous show instead. The animation looks about the same and at least they tried something with that show... or at least that's what I was told by my little cousin 😂
@@jackwriter1908if ur talking about miraculous ladybug, it’s not a bad show but it also suffers from having a creator who doesn’t like developing certain characters and plots.
That would’ve been much better if they did a scene at the end showing THIS WAS TRUE, with megamind getting angry with one of the actors and just shooting at them
@AdawaShiwani I'd like to imagine he just made a bunch of clones of himself and is like "no! That's nothing like me!" and shoots them. Then by the end he's just so done with the project that he quickly finishes it and forgets about it.
As someone who grew up with the penguins of the Madagascar series? I can confirm that kids probably will like it. There's something charming about bad animation when growing up
@spontaneousclo same i was shocked when i revisited the show, which is why I believe kids now days won't realize how bad the megamind 2 animation is, so I think they will actually like the movie
@BHZZRD I mean, the penguins shows aren't good to me anymore, like I could never sit down and watch them again and actually be entertained I think you need to be a kid to actually say if mehamind 2 is good or not becuase it's clearly not made for all ages just like the penguins show. They should have made megamind 2 for all ages just like the first one, but they didn't, but since it is for kids, no one should decide if it's entertaining or not besides actual kids not people who were kids and have grown up.
The thing is, if you don’t want to animate DONT ANIMATE. I really hate how people try to cut the costs on something that has absolutely no passion in it. If you aren’t passionate about it, don’t make it. Animation should be a way to express yourself, and when people who are passionate about something and want to create art, things like spiderverse, and hollow knight are made. People have forgotten that art and animation are literally a tool to express yourself (EDIT THIS IS NOT TRYING TO BLAME THE ANIMATORS AT ALL THEY PUT UP WITH SO MUCH THIS IS MAINLY BLAMING THE HIGHER UPS)
The only, and I mean ONLY way this sequel can be redeemed is if at the end of the megamind show, megamind wakes up, and he’s animated just as good as the 2010 one, and voiced by Will Feral, and says “That was a crazy dream, minion” and then it just ends instantly
