Prior to World War Two, the Royal New Zealand Air Force purchased twenty-one Loyd Carriers for use as aircraft starters. This example is owned by the National Army Museum of New Zealand, and is described by Assistant Curator of Technology, George Pycraft, here during the Wings Over Wairarapa airshow held at Hood Aerodrome, Masterton, New Zealand.

When I was a kid in the mid-80s I used to visit Murray Clark and help him (though probably not much help really!) work on a Lloyd Carrier and a Ferret Armoured Car. I'm not sure if it was this one; he told me it was used for starting and charging Valentine tanks. It wasn't the first one he had worked on.

what model Fordson truck is the Loyd carrier built on, is the differential modified to add extra breaking near the pinion or is it just by breaks

Nice video, I'd always assumed the loyd carrier was armoured, it's a bad day when you don't learn something I suppose.

Does this have the warp steering system used by the universal carrier

no, the losy carrier use standard tank driving, ie, braking the inside track and accelerating the outside, it is easy to see that it doesn't use the same driving system as the boggies have plates to support them
