Indeed it did, it wasn't realized until the editing process and by then it was too late to correct it. Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

Agree completely about the virtues of the Garand and the Springfield. I don't own a 1917 but I'm sure it's everything good that you guys spoke about. Good shooting. Always appreciate Mike's insight and have been reading his writings since the 1980's, especially about black powder cartridges. He inspired me to buy my first, a Shiloh Sharps 47-70. Thanks.

Indeed the Garand and Springfield are excellent rifles and the 1917 is pretty good as well. Thank you for the kind words and the continued support of this series and the magazines as well. It is because of good folks like you that we are able to provide such content! --Jeremiah

Mas 36 rear sight had multiple different rear aperture inserts. The armorer would have the rifle tied down in a stand and shoot a group at a known distance at a target with marked squares in different quadrants. After shooting a group the armorer would remove and change out the insert to one marked for the quadrant the group landed in. Then would shoot another group to confirm. It’s done for the same reason a lot of the screws are those split head type. They did not want idiot soldiers messing up the bedding and the rifles zero. And since the rifle only had one ammunition type there was no reason to make the sight Uber adjustable.

I can completely understand that and it does make a lot of sense for sure especially from a military point of view. I'm sure culture becomes a major factor as well and how familiar the average person is with firearms. Likely why American rifles of the time had adjustable sights and why the French did not. Great insight and thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

I suggest that you look up the article by Al Miller in Rifle magazine on the MAS 36 he had a very different view, although he was leary of the lack of a safety.

Indeed there are a lot of different opinions out there depending upon who the gun writer is. I will admit we were probably a little hard on some of these rifles but you have to remember we are comparing and contrasting them to other small arms from World War II and I think in that context our commentary makes a lot more sense. Would you rather have an M1 Garand or an M1 Carbine or this MAS 36. Hopefully that makes sense, at any rate we greatly appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment we greatly appreciate the feedback and support! --Jeremiah

The 91-41 Carcano was the only real Italian rifle with accuracy potential due to constant twist rifling. The 91-41 was made for the Italian troops going to the Eastern Front during World War II. The other 6.5 Carcano models had a gain twist, starting with a 19" twist and going to a 1-9 twist. A lot of the Italian short rifles were made with shortened barrels so most of the barrel was 1-19 twist. Resulting in abysmal accuracy.

Mentioned before you need a big red dot on the steel plate for an aiming point.

Hindsight being 20/20 I would have done that exact thing sadly these were all recorded months ago now and we can't go back and redo it without packing up and driving from Arizona to Montana once again. Hopefully we'll get to do that again though in the near future! Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment, we greatly appreciate it! --Jeremiah

@@HandloaderTV I have a MAS 36 and they are underrated as far as rifles go. The 7.5 French is a nice round, but I have found when reloading for it, they don't like heads over 147 grains. It is finicky but a sweet round no less.
@HandloaderTV

@@nebelwerfer199 I could certainly see that and we were a bit hard on this rifle for sure but when comparing it to the others we shot this was my initial impressions. That said I would love to get my hands on one and conduct a full load development on the rifle and get a better idea as to how it performs. Thanks as always for your support and taking the time to watch and share your experience I feel this adds a lot of value to the comments section! --Jeremiah

I can certainly see that the 1917 we had here shot quite well according to Mike who has done a lot of testing with them. I agree they are an underrated firearm. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! --Jeremiah

I respectfully recommend that you set a proper example for your viewers, by wearing eye protection when you are shooting.

I appreciate you being cordial in your comment, I usually do wear eye protection, occasionally I forget and occasionally it inhibits my view through the scope so I will remove it for those reasons. Generally speaking it is there though. --Jeremiah
