A bit long winded but it is quite a big job. If you have one to do then hopefully this video will help you get through it, I'm pretty sure I covered all the most important bits. As always please feel free to leave comments or questions below.

In my case, a screw from the fastening of the air conditioning compressor has torn off. However, I was able to drill it out in the holder and recut the thread. But thrue that it needs more time.

What an interesting video. I watched to see if I could change the belt and pump myself as I have on many cars but I’ve decided to leave this one to the proper mechanics. Thanks.

Thanks for your effort to show me how its done , a good video and narration and techincal info as we go along . in the video , Our ducato needed to be done the second time in 10 years but find this task a bit of a hand full for me so passed on the job to our garage . I like to ask you if our model VIN starts with ZFA2500 and like to find out if the timing belt is part of a computer reset thru a OBD reader , Kind Regards Rolf Comez Lowland Vdeo Production Hamilton New Zealand

@@lowlandvideonz4092 as far as I'm aware there is no computer reset through obd for the timing belt.

Thank you for a fantastic and very informative video, very well explained, that’s the model we have and the belt is due 2024, so I’m pretty confident after watching your video. I have a couple of questions if you bent mind, 1. Do you have the dimensions of the fuel pump pulley jig 2. Mine hasn’t got and engine cover so I have a lot of corrosion on the fittings where the rain water gets in, so do I order and engine cover stating it’s a 2500. 3. Also what’s the make of tyres on the vehicle, I liked the look of them and are they for better drive on fields. Once again many thanks for taking the time to do the video, one of these tones I’ve seen 👍🏻

Hi and thanks for the positive comment. HPFP pulley puller is 8mm thick steel plate with three 8mm dia holes 120 degrees apart on a 49mm PCD. Tyres are BF Goodrich AT which are great off road and pretty good on road.

Hi, Thank you very much for the excellent video on how to replace the timing belt. I have now replaced the belt on my 2.3L, 2009, including the water pump. When I turn it by hand, the timing aligns nicely. I have had locks both above cylinder four and in the cam and crankshaft wheels. I noticed that the belt was hanging out by 5-6 mm. I pushed it back in while turning it around, but after a few more turns, it seems to stick out again. My question is, what happens when the engine starts? It could destroy the engine in a few seconds if the belt comes off. What could be wrong, if there is something wrong? I have rotated it with some increased pressure on the tensioner, as you described. Could the increased pressure cause the tensioner to be misaligned? I couldn't find the torque for the nut on the high-pressure fuel pump wheel. I later heard about 90 Nm and tightened mine to that. Could that be too much and cause the wheel to be misaligned? I can't figure out the problem, if there is one. Grateful for any advice here. I'm about to put the cover back on, and everything has been done carefully and optimally. Best regards, Peter in Sweden

@@flymore515 once the crank pulley is back on the belt can't move off the pulleys. As long as everything is seated and tightened up properly it should be ok. Don't forget to refit the plug where the crank lock pin goes before you put the cover back on, I've made that mistake before.
@flymore515

@@davesshed1488 Thank you very much for the great info, Dave. I didn't think about the crank pulley, and it really is an extra guarantee that it will stay in place. Yes, the plug is in place and tightened. I noticed your warning in the video and hung it plus the Torx in a plastic bag on the frame. Haha, quite important indeed...

Hello I have just purchased a 2015 Fiat Ducato 2.3l panel van to convert into camper, it is an ex BT van with 107000 on the clock. My question as I have very little paperwork is what mileage or time for timing belt change. Great vid I have been watching you for advice on caravans for years. Thanks. Jim
@davesshed1488
@davesshed1488 Год назад
Hi, I'm not sure on the mileage but the time interval is five years. If you have no info on when it was last done I'd say do it now.

Hi just done one of these and the Campbeltown snapped and I've replaced the belt, waterpump and rockers and built back together using timing pins etc and now have a code for synchronisation p0016 any advise please
@davesshed1488
@davesshed1488 Месяц назад
Double check your timing on both cams. Als check if lobes have spun on either of the cams, not known it on this engine but many now have the lobes pressed onto the shaft and can spin out of line when pistons meet valves.
@scotthartley229

@davesshed1488 engine runs just puts the code up and puts out black smoke and possibly has a boost leak

@davesshed1488
@davesshed1488 Год назад
I generally allow 4.5 hours, bit more on an a class motorhome.
@andymick01
@andymick01 Год назад
If timing is out , do you line them up so timing pins lock without the belt on. I am stripping mine down now as it is a none starter after a cold spell. I want to check timing as not jumped
@elevenplus
@elevenplus Год назад
Yes. If long crank locking pin and cam pulley pin is fitted then timing is good, go ahead and fit belt. If cam pulley is loose the two top cam pins should be fitted too.
@davesshed1488
@davesshed1488 Год назад
Yes, the x250 2.3 engine is prone to the belt skipping a tooth or two due to condensation freezing on the cam pulleys (in between the teeth) in cold spells. So if when you strip it the timing pins don't go straight in that's probably what's happened. They don't usually do internal damage but can break the rocker arms if valves meet pistons. Once you've sorted any damage retime everything with the pins including the two cam locking pins and you should be good to go.
