Thanks for the video I did this mod on my '08 this afternoon, used the $10 harbor freight special "drummel" tool (bought it just for this job), it is really under powered, but it did the job, took about 1-1.5 hours to cut out the new notch, I'm sure the real tool took less time. But it is riding really nice, thanks for the vid, next I need to do the dual headlight mod.

I wanted to do the 70cc big bore kit and the aftermarket pipe to get 65 mph, I have a friend who did it but he got a ticket, the police officer told him that any scooter going + 35 mph needs a license plate and insurance (Michigan ) so I am going to the the throttle mod, i am ok with 40 or 45 mph. Thanks for the vid!

Hey Mitch new to scooting and just bought 2 a piaggio typhoon 4t 4v and 1999 prevug Yuma. Does this year have same setup for the carb? And I see alot of controversy over if it has or doesn't have a variator washer. Btw love your vids and great job all round. Nice to see a handy guy using things around the house and not throwing money at it. Awaiting your reply. Cheers

can i do this mod to a 07 and do you know of any other things like this that can be done to speed up my zuma without adding bore kits and such. basically more speed for no money, just asking cause you just never know. if you think i can do it to the 07 im on it so thanks for the great vid and your time

Yeah 07 is doable, in this video it's 2009 model. I am not sure what else you can do... best to ask on yamaha zuma forum they will tell you everything

Just did this, went from 35 to 41 and the acceleration is much better. I also have a FLY Racing pipe on.

@Cryptostunts I did end up getting rid of the Fly pipe. But I also got rid of the whole bike all together. No throttle mod needed for the Sv650 though.

I like and seems to be easy to do but would like to do something else to give my 2011 2-stroke screams as is. Piece of cake to ride a wheelie on a 50cc scooter with a simple pipe on it and that is all as of now!!

not sure if it is doable because 2012 model is four stroke, the older model is two stroke... let's see what James will say...

You can't do the mod on a 2012 because the throttle opens all the way with full twist. If you shave the throttle "stop" and twist past that point, you will begin to close the throttle.

now 2012 users if u want more speed what u will do is take off the variator the variator has 2 parts in the middle of the 2 parts there is a slvr washer completly remove this making a better gear ratio for your topend speed on flat ground i get 45 and downhill i burry the needle so prob 48ish (weather permitted they go slower in cold temps) before i got 40 flatground and 43 downhill.

the 2012 is not with a carburator its fuel injection

hmm I don't think so... 2013 model is four stroke... 2011 and older is two stroke... engine design changed... but I am not 100% positive

BEWARE THIS WILL NOT WORK ON A 2012 AND ABOVE AS OF 2012 THEY SWITCHED THE MOTOR TO A 4 STROKE ITS THE EXACT SAME MOTOR AS A yamaha C3 BUT STOCK THE THROTTLE IS WIDE OPEN SO ANYTHING PAST THAT ACTUALLY CLOSES THE THROTTLE

Not sure why they restricted it after the 05’s maybe reliability? One thing about the 08s and up that’s better is they have taller gears for higher top speed.

I dont understand. You guys want to go faster on your moped? Why don't you just buy a motorcycle then. These are suppose to be great for economical use. Very nice MPG rating. This type of mod will mess with mpg. Just buy a motorcycle if you're looking for speed.

XXIVVI bigger bike , more insurance, this way you can play in traffic and lead if you want, just slow down if you want good gas mileage.

Ummm it’s already a fun little bike, why not get some additional performance for free and make it even more fun? Riding a slow bike fast (at its limits) is far more satisfying than riding a fast bike slow
