yeah, they did. In fact, they were three outs from winning that series despite only batting a .185 as a team. Had they won, that would have been the lowest team batting average ever to win a world series. Arizona had the two best starters in baseball, a roided up Luis Gonzalez and not much else. But the Yankees shit the bed at the end of the day and that was that.
Getting to a very young closer in the most nerve wrecking playoff atmosphere in the history of sports is actually quite pathetic. The diamond backs had a better overall hitting and a 3rd starter that was just as good as any Yankee starter in 2001,they deserved nothing.
Bad managing in that last inning in fuckin' Arizona. Playing the infield in was bonehead. But....the Yankees gave us so many thrills in that series, that were much needed after 9/11.
Its all give and take. After coming back in games 4 and 5 Yankees deserved it if Mo didnt blow it in game 7 and D-Backs should have won it in 5 if not for Kim blowing games 4 and 5
@@dme1016 it's baseball 101. Bases loaded with less than 2 outs you bring the infield in. EVERY manager does that. Luis Castillo hit it in the one spot and the D-Backs won. I've made my peace with it lol.
Makes me so proud to be a Yankees fan! So much history i have watched since the first time i watched in 95, and i been to 2 world series at home! im so fortunate to have witness such victories in the old and new stadium, i cant wait to see where we go to continue this legacy!
+Alex Godriguez what should have been right? It's a shame but yes it wasn't a game winner. luis gonzales, that hit was great and imma let you finish but Joe Carter had the best world series hit of all time.
2 other classic Yankee homers that often get over looked are Jason Giambi 2 home runs in game 7 2003 alcs. If he dont hit those 2 bombs the game don't get tied and no Aaron F***in Boone
Those dynasty years we'll never see anything like it again. Always believing somehow we'll win the game. If we're down we'll come back. That old stadium would shake during those epic moments. Never been the same since
I was at the 3 grand slam game. My mom was getting bored and wanted to leave desperately. The score was 7-2 at this point. We were approaching the exit, my mom and sister already had left the stadium just feet ahead of me. Right as my dad was about to go through the gate we started hearing roaring from the crowd. We got to stay. Very great memory.
2001 World Series was just out of this world. Would have been a fairy tale had the Yankees won it but good Lord, those three games in the Stadium were peak baseball.
Think of how beloved and revered Soriano’s 2001 World Series Game 7 home run in the 8th inning would have been if the Yanks would have won that game. Probably #1 on this list.
InMotionForAMillion Its because NO ONE wanted them to win. Even Boston wanted the Yankees to win (SNL even ran a skit on Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon begging the Yankees to win.) Its not that its so unbelievable but that its like the bad guys won. Jerry Colangelo is a hateable person, Randy Johnson is a known curmudgeon douchebag, no one ever liked Curt Schilling (though the guys in a bad way now so Ill refrain from furthering my commentary on him), Bob Brenley basically stole Buck Showalter's team and got a ring, then sucked so bad as a manager the next year he was forced to retire. That was also the year Luis Gonzalez hit 54 HR's and then we found out later he was juicing all year (he was on the lists), Matt Williams is another former juicer, and oh did I mention that Arizona was a 3 year old team with NOTHING but a fairweather fanbase? It sucked all around that the Yankees didnt win that series, and that was also the last year where that particular core was together. O'Neil retired that year as did Brosius, and Tino was released to bring in Giambi. Yeah, that was a lot, but thats how much it sucked.
Beside closer, D-backs had great one-two. As I remember, Randy Johnson was a closer in final game 7. I like stripes but I believe that we should respect that D-backs with one of the best one-two starters in MLB history.
The greatest team set to an iconic song. Perfection. You should name this video "Explosions in the Bronx." Excellent job. I feel like I saw my entire life flash before my eyes. What an era. Time waits for no one. Thank you for this.
Ibanez that post season was the most exciting for me even though we lost. I watched all the 90s series wins. Great teams amazing moments but with Ibanez if he came up in the 9th and the Yanks were trailing or badly needed a run he was automatic. It was like everybody knew he was going homer and he would do just that several times. It's a crazy feeling when everybody feels the homer coming and it actually happens. Multiple times. Ibanez was incredible that year and post season.
Not a Yankees fan, but this team really has its amazing history. Cleveland had. The late 90's, 2001 and 2007. That's all I get to see from my team and I was only old enough to care or remember 2007. I was 9 years old then.
All great but that Aaron Boone HR I get most satisfaction vs the Sox .There was just so much intensity like a pressure cooker about to explode in that game ! Wakefield was untouchable vs the Yanks till this point.
As impressive as the new stadium is and the fact that it brought another World Series title to the greatest sporting franchise in history, I wish the old stadium was being used. So much history (hallowed ground in a way). The source of so much strength & healing after what transpired in 9/2001 & beyond. It Doesn't matter that they didn't win the 2001 World Series; but the fact that they were even in it of all the years, & what NY was going through, that's a miracle. My favorite World Series bar none as a Yankee Fan. Not sure how NY/NJ would've survived or gotten through such turmoil & sadness had it not been for baseball & the NY Yankees
hey um Cameron curto this video is great Iike it. I watch it all the time. I wanted to know what song is this that you used for this video. In my opinion I think this music was perfect for this video of the New York Yankees. In the other words, other might already had their own comments about that is bad and all. But I think it was a great song for this video. Hope you can see this message so I can get the name of this song soon.
2000 ALCS David Justice homer, Soho's hit off Leiter, and winning 2000 should be in there. As well should Matsui in Game 6 of 2009 and winning that in the first year in the new stadium. So many to choose from. Jeter's flip.
Soriano in game 7 of 2001 World Series was a good one. Arod off Pavano in the 2009 ALDS was sweet justice. And Ra-oooool in game 1 of the 2012 ALCS. Good list, but these were missed.
Great collection but the music killed it. At first I thought the music was coming from some website that was open on a different tab. The voices of the announcers and the roar of the crowd are an important part of the experience
Those thrilling homers in '01 and '03 negated because Magnificent Mariano coughed it up and then they choked against the Marlins. A crying shame, especially '01
that was such a tough loss to the D backs in 01; Mo had a tailor made double play ball hit back to him in the 9th, and made the bad throw. Yanks should have won 4 straight series
After receiving 1.6 million comments about how awful the music is, I've uploaded a new version of the video that only includes the audio of the homerun calls. Here is the link for that video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NiIxXqXq7fs.html.
Cameron Curto just want to say that I legit loved the music. Real yankee fans get taken back by these clips and the music adds perfect nostalgic touch. Great vid thank you.
The truth is Jeter isn't Mr. November. The real Mr. November is actually two individuals - Randy Dandy and Curt the Hurt. They ultimately delivered the championship that year with most of their heroics coming in November.
@Brooklyn3955...you mean Curt "No Decision" Schilling? He was in line for the loss in Game 7, and Johnson was the winning pitcher in relief, after he had pitched the day before! I'll never understand how the Big Unit wasn't awarded WS MVP by himself. I don't believe any other pitcher who went 3-0 in a WS ever had to share MVP.
Time wise this is correct because the 20th century is 2001 to present. The millenium also began on January 1, 2001 not January 1, 2000. Also when speaking about decades it is alright to state 2010 to 2019, 2000 to 2009, 1990 to 1999, 1980 to 1989, 1970 to 1979, 1960 to 1969, 1950 to 1959, 1940 to 1949, 1930 to 1939, 1920 to 1929, Etc.
To all you masterful youtube baseball-related video producers, your work is cherished but no one wants to hear music, the call from the announcers is way better
How do you not include Bucky Dent's homer in the playoffs against the Red Sox, and Mickey Mantle's home run in his first game after missing 60 games due to injury?
Great video, Great Yankee moments, but the horrible loud music really sucks. I would much rather hear John Sterling calling all those home runs instead of that horrible loud music
