Yes!!! Hard to believe it was that long ago. I remember specifically for some reason when I heard this album first, I blasted it in the living room speakers while I was assembling some cabinet thing lol. Loved this song it was prob on my Myspace at some point.
seems like this is the only live video of how i go. been searching for other live videos of this for years and still found nothing. I've first seen this video back in 2010 and it's still as beautiful as the first time i've seen it.
Hahaha, I've seen this video countless times but I just realized that was Katy Perry. I know he said it and everything, but it was never fully audible to me until now. Thanks for posting the vid. You realize, this is the only recording of them playing this song live, ever? That makes you epic-ly awesome!!! And commenting on KP, she made it more R&B in my opinion. I still liked it, but Natalie Maines performance was far more organic. Makes sense though, she was Ryan's ideal accompaniment.
FYI to anyone else who comes across this video: This song, this actual live performance you are watching is on Yellowcard's Paper Walls album (Deluxe Version) on iTunes. I synced the video with the song and it is definitely the same performance.
So I'm finally watching this in 2020 (after having heard that version on paper walls YEARS ago) - mind blown - I had no idea there was a video of this and also had no idea that it was katy perry this whole time!
@2235ng deserve more listeners. I never said otherwise. they deserve to be know by every single person on this planet. BUT I am scared that they will turn into pop and get all mainstream. geez, I don't how to explain this. THEY DESERVE MORE LISTENERS! I'm just scared, okay?
@nicagon yeah I get that. they're my favorite band so of course I think that they DESERVE more, but I also know that fame treats bands quite badly and a lot of bands (e.g. Simple Plan, etc.) totally change their style and become all mainstream and that's what I don't want for YC. I love how each record is different, yet they stay true to their sound. love it. and if they got famous and were played on each freakin' radio, I would get annoyed by them.
@flutterduckie They have a live recording of this on the MySpace :D I believe it's this exact date because they also have a recording of Gifts and Curses which was played during this show AND the recording of Something of Value (released on the Paper Walls album) was from the show and the ratios of sound are identical.
@ososuperpowers the song was on the 2006 album whilst the movie came out in 2003. i guess the movie made such a huge impact on them they wrote a song about it but weren't specifically asked to write a song for the soundtrack at the time of the movie. if that makes sense lol.
@qubainoc Yeah I know it was on the Lights and Sounds CD, I'm wandering why it never made it to the Big Fish movie soundtrack in which the song was inspired.
Do really you think Natalie Maines has the time to tour with Yellowcard just to sing one song a set? I know she's not the best in this song but she did pretty good considering the quality of the video.
@rykeyz i agree though i am scared that yellowcard could change their sound just for more fans or that by gaining more fans they will change but they deserve it :) and SP did change their sound but artists get bored doing the same music over and over again, and some of SP's new stuff is okay, like i like Astronaut, Gone Too Soon and This song Saved My Life, but SP still isnt mainstream ! they may be in other places, but not where i live, when was the last time they charted the US?lol
If i remember correctly there was another yellowcard song with a girl vocalist in it...it was either one year or view from heaven...was it Natalie Maines too?
I guess "Gifts and Curses" made to CD on the "Spiderman" CD but "How I Go" with Natalie never made to a CD and I would figure the opposite. Although Spiderman was Epic so was Big Fish. When I mean "How I Go" I mean not a movie soundtrack.
Yellowcard should have the fame and prestige of Katy Perry. Not necessarily ''have'', but they do deserve. Yellowcard with her fame would be turned into shit by the media and teenager fans.
@donleavemelikethis them really down-to-earth. "if I'm a true fan" hah.. yeah right. I want people to know YC and I want people to buy their records. I just don't want them to be mainstream. there's a huge difference between "being big" and "being mainstream". I certainly want them to be big.
@2235ng by becoming mainstream I meant their style/music NOT the people they are. and the foundation thing is awesome but it's not exactly an anti-mainstream argument since a lot of mainstream artists do charity. charity is awesome, no doubt. I'm simply talking about their music and everything. I want honest music with honest instruments and an honest voice. not pop shit from the charts. and SP is turning more and more into that. I don't wanna be hating on them 'cause they meant the
@rykeyz okay simple plan became more mainstream but not in the U.S and simple plan still stayed true to them selves they said themselves that if they kept making the same music that they wouldnt be staying true to them selves , they are some of the humblest artist, did you know that part of the money made from their ticket sales went to the SP foundation? If SP was so mainstream they would be winning awards and shit , SP are still the same 5 friends from Canada who love making music
It's Natalie Maines from the Dixie Chicks who did the album version.... that explains it... Natalie has a great voice that this girl can't compare with...
@donleavemelikethis and you got my point :D guess we just misunderstood each other in the beginning. looking forward to your covers. post them as video responses on my videos and sent me the link when they are up, so I can post a bulletin or something ;)
@donleavemelikethis you have no idea how much I hate the word "hipster" because it's abused in all the wrong places. this has nothing to do with being hipster or whatever you wanna call it. as I said before: Yellowcard DESERVE everything. they're perfect. and "it's not about the money" ... well now it's not 'cause they learn from their mistakes, but they spent all of their freakin' money they earned from OA. and honestly I'm glad they made that "mistake" cause that made
@rykeyz but i think they deserve to be bigger being a rock band, due to their great music, the last album is far superior than ocean avenue and more people should know that therefor more popular.
I wasn't trying to be rude. I was just saying it's not the best. I still like it. Geeze. You also can't really hear her at parts because of the crowd. But that is what you get when you go to a concert.
I'm not a huge fan of Yellowcard so sorry if this sounds idiotic. But is that the same girl singing as it is on the album version? If it is, she's pretty bad live.
@donleavemelikethis getting big due to being mainstream is no good. rather stay small and true to yourself. and honestly, YC was big after Ocean Avenue and the guys didn't handle it well. check out the interview they did with Mark Hoppus. I uploaded it to youtube a while ago. they don't need to be big. they're making great music and a living out of it. no need to have mainstream fans and billions of money.
@rykeyz are you a hipster? no offense, but ur talking like one. its not about having mainstream fans or anything, its about music...and reaching out to as bigger audience as possible. Providing them with best music. their music is good and all I am saying is that they deserve more listens Its not about money either. Look at their recent video Sing for me, only 355k views, Like seriously? and if ur a true fan you'd want them to get big I've seen that interview before
@rykeyz perfect. You finally got my point :) btw, I'll upload some yellowcard cover soon. can you like feature them or something like that? It'd be a great help :D live long and prosper, fellow YC fan :)
@2235ng world to me back in the days. they still do, but I just don't like their new stuff. it's too pop for me. I do listen to it, but only as some kind of "background music". their old stuff was awesome. I'm not saying a bad isn't allowed to change. of course they are! SP's self-titled was awesome although it was different. SP is just getting way to girly and backstreet boys-like. that's what freaks me out. but to get back to YC: I love them with all my heart. and of course they
but it is. anything done with an acoustic guitar is acoustic if it's not, what would it be called? plus, it's on the DVD, and that's what it's titled as i know my stuff, ok
