“Knowledge is power” truly applies to being unafraid of wakefulness. CBT-I therapy did not help me achieve the success that ACT did. Wish I knew 2 yrs ago what I do know-in large part to your channel. Almost through to the other side FINALLY! Just bought your Set It And Forget It book and look forward to learning more.

Hey there! I just wanted to express my gratitude for all the great videos you publish for free! Your teachings helped me breaking the cycle, and relieving a lot of the burden already. I especially liked your interview with Naomi btw, as a lot of her experiences are identical to mine. I really hope NATTO will find its way into the standard regimen of treating insomnia, as it’s just so much more effective, at least for me, than CBT-I to be honest. Anyhow, your freely available teachings helped me a lot thus I bought the book just to support the movement. Wish you all the best and please keep going on you’re helping a lot of people! :)

Thanks so much for this video. I've been taking Seroquel to sleep for more than ten years. I definitely want to get off of it, but I've always been so scared that I couldn't sleep without it. However, my most recent struggles with insomnia and what I've learned on this channel have shown me very clearly that it does not make me sleep. Now that I see this, I have hope that coming off it will not be too painful. But after so many years of insomnia, I want to take the recovery process one step at a time. I confronted my fear of sleeping with a partner and am now having a lot more peaceful nights. But I want to be in a very solid place of not worrying about sleep before I take the final step of weaning off sleeping pills. It's strange to me how, even though I know the pills are not making me sleep, I feel pretty sure that coming off them will create some struggle. I'd love to hear the experiences of others who've been on long-term sleep medication.

I am becoming more accepting and less anxious as the nights go by, but I still seem to have a couple rough nights a week. I assume it takes a lot of time for the mind to catch up to this acceptance. I feel less and less emotional with each speed bump. Hoping to be through this soon but staying patient :)

Hey Emily! Yes thats right, we learn fear fast but to unlearn it takes time. The brain is learning experientially so each speedbump it learns it is safe and the many layers peel away until there is nothing there 🙂

I really have an issue with sharing a bed/room with someone after experiencing post partum anxiety a few years ago and being super triggered by my baby waking me up which has lead me to years of insomnia and sleep anxiety 3 years later and my husband is still in the spare room because I get so triggered at the thought he might disturb me at night and envious of the fact he sleeps … do you have any videos in relation to this subject please? Your channel is so great!
@kristincollins8083
@kristincollins8083 День назад
I recently overcame this same (very common) problem. Daniel has videos specifically addressing this issue. What helped me was seeing how much I feared a bad night of sleep and deciding to face that fear rather than running from it. I got into bed with my husband and just allowed the bad night to happen. As I lay there in the bed awake, I turned toward my fear and wakefulness over and over, sort of comforting it like a baby and reassuring it that we were safe. After a couple hours, if it became too intense, I would leave and go to the guest room. After a couple nights of doing this, I was able to sleep beside my husband again. I'm sure I will still struggle with this at times. But I find that it's so much easier when I turn toward my experience and my emotions rather than feeling like this sleeplessness shouldn't be happening and taking steps to avoid it.

@@kristincollins8083 thanks so much for this! Helps to know I’m not alone in experiencing this because I literally lie awake at night wondering if I’m the only person in the world that just cannot sleep next to their partner and I feel awful! He’s desperate to get back in the main bed and have a “normal sleeping relationship”. I’ve tried to face my fear loads of times and told him to just get in but he goes to bed much later than me so I lie awake for hours stressing about the night ahead and then bottle it and tell him to go to the spare room in order for me to get some sleep! I’ll have a good search through his videos and see what I can find thank you!

Just wanted to tell all of you who are struggling with insomnia - you will recover. I know that because I’ve been there. It took me a little over a year to fully recover. I still have occasional trouble sleeping, like when I’m traveling, but 99% of the time I sleep like a baby. Listen to those videos and keep yourself busy with other things instead of focusing on sleepless nights. Also, you might want to check your vitamin D levels. In my case, it was super low, and that may have contributed to why my insomnia started in the first place. Stay strong, and this too shall pass

Hi Daniel, I understand the concept of delegation and that there is nothing outside of ourselves that can cause sleep to happen. Since emotions can cause hyperarousal and since a sleeping pill like a benzodiazepine that lowers anxiety levels or hyperarousal, then why wouldn’t this be a reason for better sleep? It’s still the body/brain producing the sleep because anxiety (or brake)is no longer in-the way. Or, maybe benzos do not help with anxiety?? Thanks.❤️
@thesleepcoachschool8192
@thesleepcoachschool8192 День назад
Hi Jim! You answered the question yourself- thoughts lead to emotions, and medicine like benzodiazepines do not change our thoughts, they only produce sedation. Calm aka peace of mind is AlWAYS effortless, just like peaceful sleep. So… if we take a benzodiazepine and then feel calm, how did that happen? Yes! It’s again delegation. More on this here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C9G8eif6yto.htmlsi=IOeXiJE4qAoO5jY9

I don't know... You're still dependent on something external to make you sleep. You constantly have to visit a psychiatrist to prescribe more. The anxiety of running out of pills... Escalation of dosages. I'm still on the side of quitting pills. I'm so glad that I could quit them finally.
@johnsmusicpassions9740
@johnsmusicpassions9740 День назад
better stop the pills and accept being awake free of fear - you can still perform your daily activites with less sleep and your brain will see tht you are not frightened - fear turns on sympathetic nervous system your arousal making sleep impossible

My friend has ADHD and takes ADHD drugs for it and has chronic fatigue and complains about sleeping too much and napping multiple times a day and being fatigued by it. Lol.
@NDRInextyear
@NDRInextyear День назад
So my complaint is that I always have to go to sleep at 7 PM, and if I don't sleep at 7, I can't sleep at all that night. From 7 to 11 (4 hours), I get good sleep, but after that, I wake up, and one of three things can happen: 1st, I immediately fall back asleep within 15 minutes. 2nd, it takes me 1-2 hours to fall asleep again if I can keep myself calm. 3rd, if I can't keep myself calm and start getting angry, I can't go back to sleep. In the first case, I get 8 hours of sleep; in the second, 6 hours; and in the third, 4 hours or less. These are my complaints. Now, for the past 7 months, I’ve been sleeping 6-8 hours, but my sleep remains fragmented, as I wake up 4-5 times during the night for no reason. So, I don’t feel 100% refreshed, but it's still manageable. I’ve done a lot of research on insomnia, and I found out about your channel.So I read three books about it, They explain how to get rid of that fear. I followed your advice, and my sleep-onset problem was fixed, but then I developed a sleep-maintenance problem. Still, I managed to get 6-8 hours of sleep by staying calm. But now my patience is gone. Now I get really angry. I’ve gotten rid of my fear, so what’s the problem now? If my sleep gets interrupted and it takes me time to fall back asleep, I get really angry, and I can’t stay calm anymore.
