Good info. thanks! I just grabbed a York 209 out of a 1976 ChevyVan20 that was mounted to bottom not side of the unit. It sits on a factory mount that connects to the drivers side head and the water pump. Currently modifying the bracket to mount the unit more outboard vs almost dead center above water pump.
WARNING! The oil plug (known as "oil mod") should not be done without istallation of a Fog Oiler on the intake side. While the oiling passage lets some oil through the discharge, the oil is necessary to lubricate the piston heads, rings, and check valves of the compressor. Without the oil, the above listed components will not just wear out faster, but will become very hot under use and can sieze, shredding the fanbelt at best. Installing a coalescent filter on the output will remove any blow through oil, water or dirt. ATF is ideal for both the oiler and compressor oil gallery as it works in the fog oiler but is still thick enoug to lubricate properly in the compressor.
For that little adapter, try a check valve for a fish tank it should be close to the same barb size as that piece you have. That should keep the oil from backing up.
Just a fyi. These style yorks also come on Semi trucks as the ac units. Both V-belt and Serpentine. They also have 4 different model yorks on different model semis. EX: peterbuilt may have a york 210 and freightliner may have a different york. They are very close in comparison but may be the 4in and 6in you were talking about in the begining of the vid. I have had my york on my nissan hardbody for 5years now without problems, IF given the proper maintenance.
In response to your vent mod im currently running an oil breather catch can ive taped both plugs to 1/8 npt with 2 1/8 90 npt hose barb on each side one side plumbed to the top of my breather ctach can and the other side to the bottum of the catch can when compressor runs oil blows into the catch can and allows for venting without losing oil the oil will then gravity drop through the bottum back into the compressor.
Where's the best place to get new gasket kits for these? I'm finding some online but too much wait time on shipping, i called auto, advance, oreilleys and napa, all said it would take days to get. I have the 209 version with the notch. mine came out of a 77 dodge rv with a 440
I have a york 209 and I can't get the valve plate to come off. I've tried using a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer on the underside of the plate lip but it wont budge. Does anybody know if it just being stubborn or is there something else I need to take off other then the cover bolts?
