This is such a stellar review - so much more than just another “I’m going to play a screen recording of me bumbling around the different apps” that are so prevalent right now. Love the thoughts, insights and rapid fire editing - easily 30 minutes of information in a nice tidy 10!

I think everyone knows that the AVP is better than the Quest 3. The contention is whether it's $3000 better. For just being a slightly better experience and working/looking a bit better, it feels like answer is a resounding "No" for a vast majority of the people.

The one aspect no one is talking about is the social aspect. It's lonely in the vision prep. There is no community in there. No hub where users can interact with each and just share in VR experiences. I'm so for a good headset, but at this stage it's still lacking some basic features that I feel, for $4000, should not be looked over

No. Even if facebook brings out a device with same specs. A lot of video editing or photo edting and music editing programs allready excist for Apple devices! Facebook doesn't have adobe support (most professionals use it for their real job) facebook hasn't got decent programs for professional work..Facebook can't use the google play store apps. All apps available on Apple store are available for the vision. So facebook needs to invest or buy out yet again developers who can make it possible and compete with adobe. Never gonna work. Facebook wasted so much on horizon worlds they forgot what adults want. But i guess kids are the main audience for quest.

I'm surprised they didn't attempt a much more expensive device that does the same things. A new Quest Pro with 4k per eye and the new snapdragon chips could possibly do the same things. I also think they missed the mark with eye tracking. Even before the Apple Vision Pro came out, I thought that would be awesome if they set that up for the interface. Not sure why they didn't.

I must say that I really enjoyed this review. I’m a huge Apple fan and have had many Apple products since the mid 90’s but I’m just a tech fan in general. I never much considered VR for more than occasional gaming as I had only tried the PlayStation VR a few times but since Apple released the Vision Pro it has really peeked my interest so I went a head and purchased a Quest 3 recently to dip my toe in VR gaming and I’ve really enjoyed the experience and I hope that these companies can all push one another to lower costs and perfect this awesome tech.

To me: Everything that Quest 3 does not do, it can be justified by the PRICE, in contrast, ALL that Apple Vision Pro does not do or do it wrong, it can't be justified by "Oh it's just the first gen" because of the PRiCE. And only to mention a Quest 3 and Apple Vision Pro in the same video, doesn't makes any sense to me, because are totally different products, totally different cosummer targets, and MOST OF ALL, absurd huge different PRICES. It´s like to compare Quest 3 against VARJO XR4 top of the line at $9900. Totally different targets, totally different markets.

This part: “You feel like this is not just an entertainment device but your *personal* device, that serves *you*” This is the most profound comment I have heard someone say yet about this device. I’ve been doing VR for almost 3 years now, following all of the hardware, inns and outs, etc., and like many people anticipating this launch to see what it would be. So as your first comment pinned at the top of notes, your review is far more nuanced Than others. There’s lots of comparisons about speed and clarity and storage, etc. battery life and so on. But who is it for? What does it do - and I mean in terms of transformation of a persons daily life or actions or workflow. And everyone who has review this has noted that the headset is not for them, they can already get what they get out of it in things like meta-quest 3, etc. But they’re missing this point that you make in this quote, above. That Apple has developed a device that feels like it belongs to YOU. As you put it, it *serves* you. Not one other headset out there could even come close to trying to make that claim. The absurdities of a pi-Max. The political conundrums of pico. The weird laissez faire of the valve index. And so on. Apple knew this. They exploited this. And, like most of their marketing psychology, they married the product to a lifestyle. They are, whether we like it or not, great at pushing inescapable messaging of “we know you can’t afford this but look what it could do to your life (i.e. Phone, maybe even more so AppleWatch?)IF you DID have this. Just the press on this this past week has been utterly amazing in its own right. Phew. So I think you nailed it. Apple has discovered an intimate, wearable device, one that feels like you run it not it runs you. Creepy.

As someone who is very invested in the Apple ecosystem I still have a hard time seeing the use case for this product. I have the iPhone, watch, MacBook, iMac, and Apple TV and I’m not even tempted to buy this device. I’ll stick with the quest 3 for gaming and occasional AR tv browsing. Unless it can replace my quest 3 for gaming, my tv for entertainment, and my desktop for productivity I don’t see the value yet. But hopefully it pushes other companies like meta to improve and expand
@jtimleck

“ unless it can replace my quest three for gaming*, my TV for entertainment, and my desktop for productivity, I don’t see the value”. Um… that’s exactly what it does. Exactly what it does. In fact it allows you to do all three. At the same time. Pretty much anywhere. (* this week being fairly easily modded for use in PCVR gaming, tho currently still only on macs running macOS. But geeze that’s Promising, and not bad for just being launched. So that, for me, arguably, it dispenses the whole “Well, Apple has no games” argument that’s so quickly deployed. )

I’ve asked this in several different places, but is this the new version of the “Home Computer Wars” that existed between PC/Microsoft and Mac(Apple) 30ish years ago? Now it’s the “Consumer Headset Wars” between Meta/XR and Apple/Spatial Computing, and once again, with equally different philosophical technological and consumer use ideas. By the way, if that even only somewhat true-ish, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. As much snakiness as has been cast at Apple for the semantics that is Spatial Computing vs XR (by me too BTW), there is legitimately an argument for being able to figure out different kinds of solutions for problems when you began from a fundamentally different philosophical perspective. If Meta and XR approach things “this way” and build towards **that** (regardless of what “that” is) and Apple builds with a Spacial Computing philosophy, trying to accomplish their *“that”*… I see us the consumer who ultimately wins, and both philosophies in the end make everything better.

Great video. I know this is not a gaming headset, Apple never wanted it to be associated with gaming but I’m confused about whether reviewers think the Vision Pro is a productivity device. Some say absolutely NOT, while others like Branden Bodendorfe released a video that shows it absolutely IS. We can all agree it is a fantastic media consumption device and it’s not a gaming headset so why so many different opinions on whether it’s a capable productivity computer? Edit: thank you as a prominent XR user, for placing the Vision Pro in context. Many reviews did not make comparisons or explain the current state of XR technology. Leaving viewers unsure about where the Vision Pro is relative to the rest of the industry. We know Apple started working on this headset over a DECADE ago. Even though many manufacturers are FIRST to feature something, we’ve seen how simple rumors or Apple filing patents started other manufacturers creating that feature. It’s a chicken or egg thing.

My fear is that Apple will do what they do with their phones and computers, which is close the ecosystem and nothing outside of Apple will be compatible. I know it's not a gaming device, but I fear if they allowed it to be or made a proper gaming device, there wouldn't be cross play with other devices. You'd have to buy the apple product. I wish they would realize that just divides people.

The best review I've seen so far. Probably the possibility of reproducing the movements so faithfully and naturally is due to the management made by M2 and R1. Quest 3 and Pico4 in my opinion are unable to achieve such fidelity due to the unique management given by one processor. Personally, Apple's decision to use an external battery is now clear to me (it could have been done/managed in another way). I own a Quest 3 and I have to say it's amazing but APV seems to be at a higher level but not insurmountable and perhaps achievable with new products of Meta.

@metalmanexetreme

The big caveat is that unlike Apple with its ecosystem to prop it up, meta will not have that universality, it will be reliant on integrations of other people’s systems (Google, Microsoft) which means even if they get the polish right, it may still feel inadequate comparatively.

I think people don't understand just how advance Apple's tracking. The very fact they are able to track your hands, and then cut them into any scene, means the are doing more than just skeletal kinematics, which is what more VR devices are doing. People have talking about how Apple is less advanced, because it doesn't have a guardian, but the reality is the guardian is training wheels for what Apple is doing. Apple knows where your environment is, and when you started to get too close to it, and your vision is occluded by a scene, it warns you. This means Apple is constantly doing object detection both for you and your environment. Like Apple has seriously powerful AI on display here, and the reason people don't think about it is that's so good that it doesn't get in the way.
@DiscoVRTetiana
@DiscoVRTetiana 8 месяцев назад
Good points! And that’s the thing, it HAS the guardian, it just doesn’t show you when it’s sets it up, but it scans your entire environment. And it does give you warnings. It’s amazing

@@DiscoVRTetiana ikr, I was watching Too Fun Maverick in my living room, I picked the virtual screen up with my two fingers, walked upstairs to my bedroom, made the screen larger then turned a dial and was in a another world. No guardian warnings, the headset just told me when I was close to the wall, no resetting my position, no taking the headset off......The experience makes everything else look like a Fischer Price to. I actually envy anyone that's just getting into this , having not suffered through the years of emerging VR devices. It's so crazy.
@bujin5455
@bujin5455 8 месяцев назад
@@DiscoVRTetiana What I mean is that it doesn't have a guardian in the sense it doesn't have this program where you define what is and isn't open space. Thus I'm calling the user defined guardian, training wheels. The headset itself is aware of what's out there, and is monitoring the situation without you having to define it.

I do not understand comparison to quest 3. This thing cost 3 times price with 2 hour battery. I mean $3500 an you can't install better battery apple. The platform should be on another level. I do believe there will be some subscriptions down line for this headset. I am sure meta could do same but who in there right mind with bills and family would throw money away on this. Most people bills month not $3500. The price needs to be $1500 or under for average consumer to really consider it an that's even a stretch.

Its so irresponsible showing people driving while wearing a Apple Vision Pro using hand tracking and not having their hands on the steering wheel. Even though its a self driving car, it could malfunction and you could lose power to your headset. Does Apple support and encourage this practice?

But you still need the iPhone which cost money. If you want to truly be productive you need to connect to your MacBook which cost money. It has its own cable built right in to get tangled up. Don't get me wrong. It's is a fantastic piece of hardware. But it's just not for the mass market. It's for people with a shit ton of extra disposable income or tech reviewers who can justify the purchase as a business decision. I'll settle for the quest 3 and work with the somewhat clunky UX for 15% of the price until the Apple Vision Regular hits the market in 18 months. I'll still be able to do just about everything pro users can do, plus I can play actual VR games without an additional MacBook or PC. But for those who can justify the cost, enjoy. It's great tech.

I tried it and I wasn't a huge fan. The screen and tracking was amazing. It's cool that you don't have to create boundaries and meshes, the spatial video looked great but I can't imagine spending $3500. On it. It was kinda boring to me. Anyone can fix problems by throwing a ton of cash at it but I would like to see the issues we have fixed for everyday people. Not just millionaires.

Quite few others have already said it, but you, Tetiana, are one of the best reviewers in VR media. Your ability to take a review beyond simply "how well it works (or doesn't)", and into the realm of what "how well it works" can mean for us on both the small and large scale, is both a breath of fresh air and a welcome call to *think* about what all this can mean to us as individuals and as "community". Awesome review/discussion, not just on Apple's Vision Pro, but on Apple's long-time focus on changing how we do life--hopefully for the better. Though I have never owned, nor plan to own any Apple products (at this point at least, and despite how cool the AVP sounds), I nevertheless am quite excited by what their entry into the alphabet soup that is currently Virtuality can and will mean--and some of that, at least, is because of how VR-oriented RU-vidrs like you and Thrillseeker look beyond "how it works". Thank you!
@DiscoVRTetiana

That's such a high praise, thank you. This review took a lot of work - structuring, breaking it down and ultimately synthesizing it in a way that makes sense, and I really appreciate you comment. I'm glad you watched the video even though you are not planning on owning an Apple product (do you own a Quest btw?) because indeed, this device will go way beyond just niche Apple owners. It might transform the entire XR industry as we know it! Especially considering it's only a 1st get device. Again, thank you for supporting :)

@@DiscoVRTetiana, yes, I own a Quest 3 (excellent headset!)... and a Pico 4... and the PSVR2. And I still have my old Oculus Go, because there are a couple of "shovelware" games on it that I really enjoy that didn't transfer over to the Quest 1. My credit card is now merely sniffling sadly over the PSVR2, instead of full-out sobbing, but I'm still glad I got it. At the moment, my headsets are doing little more than serving as a very expensive "toy" collection: I'm the sole caretaker of 3 of my 4 closest relatives, so daily-use--and sometimes weekly-use--has been impossible. Last year was beastly for them on the health front, but thankfully, this year has been a little less "exciting", so I'm hoping to get back into VR more regularly again. That's one of the main reasons I enjoy VR creators like you, Thrillseeker, The Mysticle (who likes doing the occasional bit of headset hacking, which I find very interesting), and Steve of VRFlightGuy, who soooo enjoys his flight sims, and offers excellent "how-to's": it gives me a chance to enjoy VR vicariously when I just don't have time to slip on a headset, thanks to Real Life. I appreciate seeing everyone's enthusiasm, and it's good to get a sense of the what the future may hold, thanks to "VR" for good or... problematic. (Also love Sebastian's enthusiasm, and all his guests on his "Next Dimension" Podcasts). I'll be keeping and eye on Apple's progress, and who knows? The day may come when my credit card and/or bank account won't threaten to commit suicide if I try to buy whatever model might be available! 😂 Like you--and as I've argued in more than one comments section--I may not be any version of an Apple "fangirl", but I've been around and seen enough of Apple to know that, if the AVP is even somewhat successful, they will make "VR" do things most of us can now only vaguely imagine.

Too much positive cuz its still a heavy device and thats the killer for all headsets.Its not intuitive for 3900 dollar having flat windows or symbols in vr.Its the same that we already have but worde.The only thing thats better ist the habdracking and the eyetracking and the display.so..its more like a device we alreay have.Its just better hardware that Apple user wanna pay but for sure most people dont cuz its still a pressing thing on yor face.Honestly its a poor start from Apple after all these years.Integration in other Apple Products maybe ok but advertising made it thats what it is now and its just mediocre.i am sure i would rather sit in my bed and type with faxebook while my wife sleeps next to me than wearing ut in my bed while talking to siri.
