Love hearing your opinions on this stuff! Like I said, there will be a low light video test AND then a final wrap up video of these three trying to get a bit more comprehensive on features and pros and cons. Keep the comments and questions coming though. You guys help me decide what to test on this channel!
Thank you for this comparison. I was surprised to discover I consistently chose the Ace Pro as the image I liked best. But, I found the GoPro to have the nicest output (for me) under water.
Already picked up the action 5 pro, I think the footage just looks the best in most situations. I’ve got a couple action 4s and haven’t had a single issue with them. Everything just works as they should.
Actually liked the DJI Action Pro 5 - I was watching color balancing in your varying light conditions. Insta seemed to shine in low light but for overall picture and sound quality, it just seemed that the DJI was more generally appealing. Interesting reading other comments.
For how close the Ace pro is to the Dji action 5 only makes it better for the ace pro as there is a lot more expectation now for the Ace pro 2. Tight call but I think Ace pro edges it for me.
Good idea with the mixing footage, just found the font size and placement distracting during the guess phase. Ace pro had the best overall image quality imho, if i didnt have gopro 12 already i would go for it
Hi David, Keep pumping out these comparison videos! Looking forward to your lowlight tests. I read in the comment sections of another video that for A5P, the standard color and HDR profiles are mushy in challenging lighting conditions. The belief is that lower bit rates are being used so it has worst IQ vs A4, but if you use D log M, then it’s clean. Hopefully new firmware update will add higher bit rate options and clean up the color profiles. I would definitely prefer this vs. the extended battery life but have the option to switch back and forth depending on the use cases that requires IQ vs battery life and larger files and vice-versa. My preferences: - direct sunlight: first is AP, then GP13, then A5P - behind sunlight: first is AP, then A5P, then GP13 - underwater: first is GP13, then AP, then A5P - audio: first is A5P, then the other two
Can't wait for the ace pro 2. I have a go pro and I use it mostly for recording myself flipping on the trampoline. What's super convenient is that I can watch what I just recorded on my phone without having to download the clip. Thing that I can't do on my sony alpha.
Well almost all of the shots i guessed correct...im afraid in decent light the gopro hands down,if only gopro would compete in all the other areas, reliability, ease of use ,battery life etc,if there is a god, please roll all of these cameras into one !
In most shots, the GoPro, in my opinion, is the best. The other two cameras aren't far behind either, they're even better in certain situations, but overall I think the GoPro is the winner. I have GoPro Hero 8, GoPro Hero 11, DJI Action 2, from action cameras, and this year I couldn't wait for the release of new models from DJI and GoPro. I gave up on buying a GoPro because the video quality is almost the same as the GoPro Hero 11, with some, in my opinion, minor improvements, and because I would have to buy new batteries, plus all the accessories cost extra. I gave up on the DJI Osmo Action 5 PRO because it seems to me that the video in certain segments is worse than the Osmo Action 4... All in all, in my opinion, who has a previous model of GoPro and DJI, there is no need to buy a new model, unless he really enjoys having all the latest. :)
I'd say in general the DJI 5 is the winner for me with the Ace Pro a close 2nd. The GoPro 13 also had me here & there, especially under water. Really looking forward to the Low Light comparison!!
I wish DJI would throw out a firmware update so we are able to adjust bit rate. I have the GoPro 13 as well as the Action 5 but to be honest, I am liking the Ace Pro footage. Surprisingly I do like the GoPro as opposed to the Action 5 something just seems off with the Action 5 compared to the Action 4 that I had . I can’t put my finger on it.
DJI just wrote on their forums the next firmware update will have an option for a high bitrate mode. Also a RU-vidr (not David) involved in some leaks about the “other” new camera coming soon also mentioned the next Action 5 Pro firmware will have a high bitrate mode and improvements to the standard color mode.
David, Thank you for the video! I am still on a GoPro 11 and thinking about the Action 5 Pro, because of batteries life, stability and long term compatibility - for MTB. All of the features of the new Action 5 Pro are well known, but this video for image quality comparison is great. Your comparison test: If you know the characteristics of them, it is easy to guess right (But only in the underwater clip I was wrong). The GoPro has a little more detail, but I don't know, if it is over-sharpened per software or it is more pixels of the sensor. On the other hand some highlights of the GoPro clips are clipping. I can't wait for your low light comparison video - thanks a lot.
From your video David, this is my conclusion: Everything related to pool or beach activities, GoPro is the way to go, as long is sunny jejeje. Over and under the water it will do amazing, no wonders the founder was a surfer. Oh, and Audio, is superb compared with the rest, they significantly improved that. Real action, sunny or cloudy, any of these cameras can work, but if it is cloudy, that’s means in the rain forest, cave exploration, anything that could get low light during daylight, DJI could be the best to go. All around camera, for vlogging, trip to the city, hiking, activates that do not involve water jejeje Insta360 for me is the best, and it will do good at low light! Blessings bro and to your family, and thanks for your content!
I feel like all 3 have their strengths and weaknesses. I have 2 GoPro 11's and the insta 360 ace pro. I do a lot of filming/editing, what I've found is like love the GoPro in certain situations but I love the ace pro in other situations.
Honestly, after the first round, it was pretty easy to guess the cams right each time. the ace has the best colours, but is rather soft in the details, the DJI is sharper and still pretty nice colours, while the GoPro is also sharper but has the least saturation. Having said that, i'd say the DJI is my personal overall favourite. Maybe the ace can correct the clarity by tweaking the settings, but as it is in your preview, the softer image feels suboptimal especially when there's text that you simply can't read as well as on either of the other two cams. As for audio, the DJI is again my favourite (in terms of voices having the best clarity), then the GoPro, which might actually be better suited for anything other than voices thanks to more bass, while the ace sounds a little underwhelming due to neither bass nor voice being the main focus.
Honestly for these specific tests they all look pretty good! But it's all the other things that come into play - GoPro's reliability issues and horrible low light make it a no for me. So that means it's DJI or Insta360. DJI would be great to match up with my OP3 and seamless wireless audio, not having to buy adapters etc. It also has a front screen I don't have to flip up. Insta360 is great, awesome app support, even though it's a flip screen it's easier to film in different angles but no log footage. I guess final decision will be made in a few weeks when we see what Insta360 is going to do. Right now I'm leaning more towards the Osmo Action 5 pro. Thanks David!
I failed at guessing 99% of the time. LOL ...at this point it is really splitting hairs when it comes to image quality between these cameras. The ACE pro seems best in low light but Im not out at night with my action cam so ill stick with the GoPro for now.
I want the Ace, especially if they update it with 10 bit and log…. But I really wish it connected wirelessly to a mic like the DJI DJI def has the advantage of that ecosystem
I could tell just by shirt texture detail. After that, insta360 and Gopro. If given one, it will be a tossup between higher rez, battery life or attachments.
I've been a hardcore GoPro image lover since the Hero 8 Black but with the 13 out now and the Action 5 Pro... I have to say I now heavily favor the image of the Action 5 Pro for 90% of the shots you showed and 100% of the shots other RU-vidrs have shown! For reference, there were a couple of the underwater shots with the Hero 13 I thought looked marginally better. I'm 100% NOT sold on the gimmicky slow motion GoPro is trying to push as a serious feature and typically never use higher than 120 on an action camera to begin with!
All of them are good for daytime videos with marginal differences, by this time, action cameras should have videos with optimal light down to a T. Slight variances in color science is purely individual preference. Heck, my daughter has a $99 Akasa and looks impressive with optimal lighting lol. We are so hyper-focused on this category we forget the other also very important categories that set each camera apart, ie. low light capabilities, user interface, ease of use, audio eco system etc. Great video as usual David, would like to see the Ace Pro 2 in this race as the Ace Pro is now a year old but still holds strong ;)
Action 5 in most cases, even when it's back-lit. I also like the slightly wider field-of-view. But the GoPro easily takes the W for the closed pool underwater footage. Ace Pro tracking and exposing to the face is nice but it's almost borderline to when a picture looks fake cuz you cranked up the shadows to 100. GoPro's sky color looks more different than the typical GoPro look for some reason. (It was super easy to guess which was which cuz of the field of view and the sky color.) I wanna say Action 5 as well for the audio but I can hear the processing (noise reduction and compression) and that throws it off for me time to time but I guess for an action camera and not having to deal with fixing things in post, it's good enough. It's also interesting to see that the Action 5 and Ace Pro have very similar color science, especially with skin tones, but then the GoPro is just completely different.
Every new action camera is just a big gimmic , we're still using the Go Pro hero 7 and it's 4k with great stabilisation and a Go Pro 360 Max ..as far as sound goes external mics and sync it , easy peasy lemon squeezy 😊.....still like yer vlogs though 🤣🤣🏴
Honestly, I love hearing that! I have a pretty hard and fast rule that it's not worth upgrading camera gear unless there's something you want to film and you can't with your current setup. That's when it's time to upgrade. If the Hero 7 is treating you well, then stick with it!
@DavidManningvlog it's a lot easier when you know the Go Pro reset procedure lol if yer wanting a laugh we're called Oot n aboot wi us and vlog in Scotland 🏴
Sound favourite was DJI but image was Ace Pro, followed by DJI, then GoPro. Not sure if I said this in your last video or not but I sold Insta360 X 3 and have no intention purchasing another. Tried that and the Go Pro Max and hated both…although Insta360’s was way better.
The GoPro Hero 13 and DJI Action 5 def have the better picture quality. I kept getting the two mixed up. All great cameras. I really with DJI's magnetic mount could go either way like the GoPro. Also, I wish my DJI Gen 1's could connect to the Action 5 Pro. ha
At this point we know GoPro is last place. The only reason I still buy GoPro is the unlimited upload with their subscription plan. I’d love to make the leap to the other devices, but I cant see myself leaving the unlimited upload service. Sooner or later, GoPro is going have maxed out storage capacity and this unlimited uploads will end, then I’ll make the change.
Going against the RU-vid grain and choosing the GoPro in daylight. Ace Pro was out of focus a lot on the faces so it came in last here. DJI looked mushy in a lot of situations.
I had the Ace Pro for 2 days and returned it. It was an over-sharpened nightmare with tons of artifacts and the flip screen is clunky in real world use. The Action 4 looked WAY better. The audio was also 3 frames out of sync with the video making it terrible to edit.
@@fatheringautism Interesting points. As an ace pro owner I've not found fault with it. I think I turned down the sharpening out of the box and have an external mic if I want audio as it isn't that great with the internal mic. I definitely prefer DJI products more but I don't think the action 5 pro is that big of a leap over the ace to switch at this time.
DJI video and audio was really doing well. It’s been a long time since I’ve had an action camera but I think it time to get one soon. I’m not going with GoPro.
As a former go pro user. At this point because they all look decent I’m staying away from GO Pro. Way too many overheating issues, sudden stops, too much lost footage. They lost my trust unfortunately in the recent years I’ll only look at DJI and Insta at this point. Very tough to decide. Can’t wait to see Ace Pro 2 in a few weeks
I agree, just sold my old gopros and will be looking to either by dji or insta action cam. Gopro froze and stop responding way to many times on me. Can't trust them anymore. I have insta 360 x2 and now x3 and those cameras never froze.
The Ace Pro cam is simply too good and in my opinion the best all around action cam of the 3. Color accuracy, detail, low light capabilities, face recognition, audio, image quality the list goes on. It's a solid action cam and I would buy one if I had the need for one and a user for these types of applications.
Surprised how well the Insta360 Ace Pro is holding up against the newer model action cams. I'm wondering what the Ace Pro 2 will bring to the fight. It might make this video obsolete!
I'm curious how insta360 will improve the Ace Pro. Also, what are your thoughts of the DJI bitrate conversation? Do you feel like there is some credit to the concern about it?
To my eye, the GoPro looks best in this test. Makes sense, in this kind of bright sunlight, I would trust my GoPro 12. Question, in the 13 the same sensor? Looks so. Next test, try these guys at night!!!! PS : I also really like the Ace Pro on this test, which is quite amazing considering the other cameras are brand new. Excited to see what the Ace Pro 2 will bring! And excited for more of your testing. I always trust your opinion! :)
I think your test is backwards! Daytime Image quality is so close that it's not the deciding factor anymore. Low light is a different question. To me all the other features make the difference. Ease of use, reliability, file size and editing, audio, battery life, accessories, and cost. Ever since the Action 4 came out I love the DJI. Just started using the Action 5 and for daytime use it's the same as the Action 4. I'm really enjoying the battery life and the easy connection with the Mic 2 and the GPS remote.
They all look great and not so great in different scenes, one min the gopro looks amazing then in the next it doesn't, same with the other 2 cameras, they keep chopping and changing, i was a little shocked to see the Action 5 pro show you and your child dark in the underwater footage! especially as it has a bigger sensor than the gopro, then in other scenes the 5 pro trounces the gopro! i think i would be happy with any of these cameras though i do like the low light performance of both 5 pro and the ace pro over the gopro.
Surprised how bad HoPro low light remains after a new release. Ace looks best to me but I keep hearing about focusing issues with that one. Not sure the Action 5 is worth upgrading from Action 4.
For a true and fair comparison they only all needed to be set to the same iso. I suspect they were, which would mean the GoPro far inferior in low light.
I have a GoPro 8 & 9 as well as an Action 4. There’s no comparison in low light, DJI wins hands down. And yes, I know the Action is generations newer, but the 13 still looks bad. And again, doesn’t matter if the iso is locked in, if all three cameras were set the same the GoPro looses. Besides, auto iso will only pump up the brightness in the image at the cost of a great deal more noise. No thank you.
@@brettb613 Maybe that's the problem for you. I leave mine on auto and it looks fine. Then again, I dont film in dark hallways either. I have better cameras for low light.
I'm very surprised by your comparison. Everyone else, really everyone I've seen so far, between the GoPro 13 and the DJI Action 5, has seen the DJI camera ahead in almost all areas. That's not so clear with you, and that surprises me. Something is different with your comparison. But I've already made up my mind. If 10 RU-vidrs show me how much cooler the DJI Action 5 is compared to the GoPro13, then the 11th, namely you, won't dissuade me from that. It's still strange.
David, I have Insta360 Ace Pro but my footage/image are very soft and not sharp at all compared to DJI Action. I don't know, I just don't like it or maybe I am not good at using it. :-(
not gonna lie. i might have guessed 1 right maybe? i dont know one thing i did notice though the insta was more blurry on detail than the others. Also i prefer the Action 5 more features and consistent video. I have been using the Action 1 for years and still am.... partly i can afford the other new one but mainly it meets my needs 100%. Im always up for better quality and dynamic range. If and when i can ill get the Action 5 or even 4 depends on budget. Selling kidneys still a thing??? LOL
I believe the ace pro was definitely the best image quality. You can definitely see how terrible the GoPro was when you went in the bridge area where the lighting became dark. The GoPros footage was pretty much unusable. I think this is the end of GoPro. Rip GoPro great video
I wanted it to be the DJI, because I have been contemplating finally switching… But I honestly think the GoPro looked the best and sounded the best.. the only time I think the GoPro lost was when the you spun around and the Ace Pro focused on your face.. thanks for putting this together. Think for now I’ll be staying with GoPro.
GoPro is best. All this wanna be newcomers just arrive, please humble yourselves. You try so hard but you can't beat the GoPro because it does what it was meant to do at its best. GoPro is the Toyota Land Cruiser of cameras. Simplicity, reliable and tough.
Looks like are all about the same. I liked to GoPro 13 image best on most of those, so I would probably buy that. However, I dont think you can go wrong with any of the 3. The only reason I will likely keep my GoPro 12 is so I dont have to buy new batteries.
DJI 5, AcePro tossup.. Gopro clear 3rd. BUT PLEASE do a quick vid on this BITRATE thing. Love to know your thoughts, testing on it and any DJI comments if it's a hardware or just a firmware issue.. As always you're the best.
I guessed the GoPro 13 in all of the rounds (because it doesn't look as good as the Action 5 Pro and the Ace Pro, sorry GoPro), and with that said, I'll stick to the DJI model. I feel its quality is better, and the internal storage and the tracking mode are definitely killer features. Great video, David.
