Is cereal healthy? No. Here's why you may never (or should never) eat it again.

0:00 Introduction: Is cereal healthy?
0:35 Cereal serving size
1:40 Cereal nutrition facts
10:33 What is a healthy breakfast?
11:10 How did the idea of "healthy cereal" start?
12:35 Check out this video on the most dangerous food you can eat!
Is cereal a healthy way to start the day, or is cereal bad for you? That's what we're going to talk about today.
The nutrition facts on a cereal box are based on one serving size. The problem is that this serving size is unrealistic. The average serving size is one cup, but as we look at the nutrition facts, we're going to multiply them by four to get more realistic numbers.
There is a tremendous amount of sugar and carbs in cereal. This is going to spike your blood sugar levels and insulin, which will cause you to be hungry and tired just a couple of hours later.
Consuming large amounts of sugar and carbs can also lead to:
• Insulin resistance
• A loss of concentration, memory, and focus
• A fatty liver
• Developing fat around the organs in the midsection
• Diabetes
• Inflammation
• High cholesterol
• Anxiety
• Cavities
• A higher risk of heart problems
Cereals are not high in fiber like some may claim. Also, even though some cereals contain "healthy whole grains," these whole grains aren't actually healthy because whole grains contain phytic acid, which can make certain nutrients unavailable for your body to use. Refined grains deplete essential nutrients as well.
Cereal is loaded with synthetic vitamins, not natural vitamins, and even these synthetic vitamins become useless when the cereal is processed.
Cereal also contains artificial coloring, flavoring, and other chemicals. Some of these chemicals can affect your endocrine system and are even carcinogens.
A great alternative to cereal for breakfast is having eggs-eggs are fantastic for your health. Bacon, sausage, or avocados are also great choices to have with your eggs for a healthy breakfast.

I spent a lifetime of eating poorly, but it all finally caught up to me around age 50. The food where I first started noticing poor outcomes, severe stomach aches and digestive problems, was cereal. I kept eating it because I loved it, but it got so severe, I had no choice but to stop. Anyway, this one event put me on the road to eating right, and I now have been eating right for 2 years, with excellent discipline. I follow all the advice that Dr. Berg gives us. I feel amazing and I wished I would’ve been eating this way my whole life.

As a former cereal killer, I approve this video. Seriously though, I moved to this country as a skinny active kid at 9 years old, within one year after eating Count Chocula, Frankenberry, and Froot Loops, I became a chubby little lethargic kid who didn't want to play anymore. Still took me many years to drop other cereals I thought were good for me like Quaker Oats. Thank the Creator for your videos!
@Crystal107
@Crystal107 Год назад
Oats are universally recommended and researched but you gotta pair it with other things, shouldn't be eaten by itself (seeds, nuts, pieces of fruits)... Oats are not really a typical processed cereal like the ones he is talking about. Oats are actually food and not completely man-made. I've never had issues with Oats + it's one of the few foods that I know will never make my stomach feel bad and make me feel satisfied for a long time.

I ate so much heavily-advertised RTE cereal as a kid and also dealt with also now I hate 99% of the cereals on the market. I like Organic Puffed Kamut _(Arrowhead mills, Nature’s Path)_ when I allow myself to eat RTE breakfast cereal with my breakfast these days. It’s only 50kcal per cup measurement so that means I serve myself 62.5kcal-87.5kcal worth of it. I like that it only has one ingredient _(puffed wheaten cereal)_ instead of being ultraprocessed. I mix in berries & a modest amount of low/non-glycemic sugar substitute _(ex: Erythritol, Monkfruit)_ to make it a bit more nutritious and yummy
@Crystal107
@Crystal107 Год назад
@@maenad1231 I grew on RTE cereal as a kid as well, I'm glad I stopped eating that stuff long time ago and moved to oats when I feel like eating something "quick". Anything too processed is usually not very healthy for us, especially those with added sugars. I personally prefer to stay off of sugar substitutes, the research around them is concerning, I prefer to add things that are naturally sweet into the mix, like cranberries, fruits etc.

It was when I was in college that I realized I didn't want to get up earlier just to eat breakfast. I felt the extra sleep would be more beneficial- than stuffing myself with carbs. Also - it was when I was in college, I realized that I was NEVER hungry during the day - and as an extra bonus, when I was weighed during a health class - I found out I had lost 7 pounds - and hadn't realized it.. That was the beginning of my lifelong pattern of fasting all day and not eating until evening and I was never tired or sluggish during the day - unless I ate during the day. I feel proud knowing that decades ago - I had figured out stuffing myself with food and added calories and carbs throughout the day, was far more detrimental for me than it was beneficial. Later when the INTERMITTANT FASTING studies came out about 5 years ago .... I finally felt vindicated due to all those years of seeing people's baffled expressions when I told them I rarely eat during the day - yet they were the ones always complaining about feeling tired and sluggish.

I'm a Muslim and I rarely are during the day during my school days. My friends were all puzzled and always asked why I'm not hungry. In my country, due to the majority of population being Muslims, we have more or less learned that when you're hungry, you're not always truly hungry. Your stomach just thinks it's hungry because it's the time for you to usually eat. It will urge you to eat due to fear of hunger but after you're used to fasting, your stomach would recognize that we're not starving ourselves, we're just adjusting our eating time and the stomach will also adjust and calms down.

Most mass market cereals are super high in carbs including sugars. If you are going to have some cereal, find one that is unsweetened or low in sugar. There aren't many, even in the "health food" section. When you add milk, use whole milk or even half and half so you get more fat. More fat will be more satisfying, and it will help slow the absorption of sugars. A little cinnamon might help too. If you want it a little sweeter, maybe add inulin or a non-caloric sugar, or a little dried fruit like raisins or chopped dates, as the fiber will slow the release of sugar a little bit. Add some soft nuts, like walnuts. If the fiber and fat is high, you'll be able to feel satisfied with less, and you won't need the 4x 8oz serving size Berg is talking about.

Dry roasted oats+ milk+1 teaspoon peanut butter (natural) + 1 banana + 10 dried black Himalayan raisin with a pinch of cinnamon powder. Add whey protein if you want.
