Oil changes can be messy sometimes. Well we're changing that today by installing a Fumoto Oil Drain Valve! It's easy to install and super convenient. Gone are the days of having to remove the oil drain plug, replace the crush gasket and then reinstall. With the Fumoto valve, we just need to turn a lever to drain the oil and then turn it to close the valve!

Regarding your track FRS…Highly recommend checking the oil cooler filter adapter bolt torque at each oil change. The large bolt/stud that the filter spins on can come loose over time and cause a huge mess/potential fire/track incident. Simply retorque with socket at each filter change to be safe.

When pouring from bottles with an offset spout, the spout should be at the top. Yes, this means the spout is further away from where you want the fluid to go. Intuitively, that would seem to make the stream harder to control or aim. It seems wrong, but try it just once and you'll see - 1. The bottle will rotate much further before pouring begins, this makes aiming easier. 2. The air will now enter the bottle without glugging, making it MUCH easier to control. 3. Fluid pours faster, almost like a laminar flow.

The drain valves save a little time, but they do leave a fair amount of oil behind in the pan. the threads stick up above the bottom of the pan inside so it cant all come out. For the same price as that drain valve you can buy a cheap extractor pump online. Then you suck the oil out of the dipstick tube and change the filter all from the top. No need to even look at the bottom of the car.
@KevinVo
@KevinVo Год назад
You'll never get all of the oil out. The oil left in the engine is negligible. As for the pump method, that's personal preference but I like the convenience of just opening and closing a valve.
@boost331
@boost331 Год назад
@@KevinVo Easy when you have a lift. For most DIYers that have to deal with a jack and jack stands or stacking wood blocks to clear going up ramps, I can be done with the entire oil change before most people would have it up in the air. Added bonus to not even having to change clothes before\after crawling on the gound. To me the drain valve makes sense on cars with bottom mounted filters because you would need to get under there anyways. With a top mounted filter extractor pumps are a god send.
@KevinVo
@KevinVo Год назад
@@boost331 it's all relative. Unless your car is slammed it's not much of a hassle driving onto 2x4s and jacking the front end up. I've done my fair share of driveway oil changes without a lift haha

@KevinVo
@KevinVo Год назад
Why do you highly doubt it could've been user error? These are on thousands of cars worldwide so to make a consensus from one video you've seen where it's impossible to see why or how it failed wouldn't be wise.
@holeshot26
@holeshot26 Год назад
@@KevinVo he was driving the car around normally prior to the pull & it wasn't leaking. i still included operator error as an option. it wasnt until the pull that it opened & drained all the oil, to where he thought he had blown the engine cuz it was smoking & oil pressure dropped. other than that i was thinking of getting one.
@KevinVo
@KevinVo Год назад
@@holeshot26 after looking into Devin's video, his valve actually came off the car. So it either backed itself out or it somehow got hit by something that broke it off. If I had to guess it must have backed itself off because if something broke it off he'd be able to see that damage from that on his oil pan. Not sure I'd chalk that up to the fumoto valve failing.

@pstoppani
@pstoppani Год назад
@@KevinVo Thx. I get the convenience factor but I think it is good to know the balance between convenience and cost on stuff like this. Convenience mods add up. I wouldn't do this mainly because it adds two points of failure and complexity over the standard plug. You could let yourself say it is impossible for this to fail. I think that says a lot. Given you track these cars, are you really that confident that the plastic clip wont fall out with all that vibration and heat (the latter not being a good thing for plastic parts). How about that spring failing in time? I'd rather have some inconvenience and peace of mind that a properly torqued plug is more reliable. That's me though. Sharing another view point. Of all the products you've reviewed this one has my thinking "not a fan". Good quality review though.
@KevinVo
@KevinVo Год назад
@@pstoppani All fair points! I wouldn't say it's impossible. I think I said it's nearly impossible to accidentally open. I actually don't run this on my track car because I'd rather have the magnetic oil drain plug to pick up any metals deposited in the oil plus that cars up in the air often so it's easy to undo the plug, but for a daily driver I love the convenience this adds. That being said, I'm confident that the clip and spring are adequate in making sure the valve doesn't accidentally open. Even if those were to fail, there would have to be something to hit the lever in a very particular way for the valve to open. All in all, this is something that's completely personal preference!
