One weak point you missed are the 4 screws on the baseplate that attach to the arm. They are tapped in aluminum and strip very easily. They should have made that part stainless steel or at the very least put stainless steel inserts into the aluminum. Imagine flying an expensive red camera and the screws strip out. Very stupid design
Great review ! I think the Crane 3S is a gimbal to be used with both hands, especially with shots that you are running (unless your in underslung mode)
Thank you so much Hugh. Incredible video, and it help me so much after to try understand so much times the bad translation in Portugueses and English of the Instruction PDF download from the Zhiyun web site, an huge catastrophe. You really help me. Kind regards and everything good for you.
Great video, I’m looking for a gimbal to do videography for a race car team, since I’ll be shooting a lot of shots with either a 70-200, or 200-600, I’m definitely looking at a more beefy gimbal like this. I think it will be a good fit, thanks for all the info and cool video mate
were you able to get the remote control to work with the s1? I cant seem for the life of me to get the control handle to record on the s1. I read somewhere they werent compatible.
Great review. Coming from adverts, I have crane 3 lab myself but it's a bit hard to get it right with Bmpcc4k wonder if this one would be any better. Motors look a little bigger anyway. Thumbs up for the review!
The shake is a result of insufficient power to the motors, especially when in undersling position. Many users have found that all the shake goes completely away when you add the large power pack option to the gimbal (which gives the motors full power as well as you can also use to power acceao, such as an external monitor). Cheers!
That's crazy because the power that's delivered to the motors from the batteries is a lot. Theres no shortage of power especially for a well balanced light camera. In fact most users say to have the gimbal set on lowest motor power. But I see your point, I may try this.
I believe Zhiyun specifically said this is not the case. That said, I had issues with my first gimbal they couldn't troubleshoot so I'm on my second one. It's a little shaky here and there, trying to figure it out still :/
@@HuFilms I'm probably going to purchase the power pack, if that resolves it then I'll honestly be very happy. That said, if that's the case then why lie?? Tha'ts what'll make me pissed. Been a fan of Zhiyun for awhile now.
Canon 5D Mark 3 is in the compatible list of this item gimbal: zhiyun-website-shenzhen.oss-cn-shenzhen.aliyuncs.com/instruction/20230802/1690943820625-8YPTNxFh.pdf
Hi I read the wireless transmitter internal battery only last 1.5 hours, seems short and have to recharge during a shoot? Will the additional Zhiyun battery power pack provide continuous power or is there another solution? Would like to have feed to an iPad all day for client. Thanks!
Well, first things first: if that woman is your girlfriend, you are surely doing something right in this life. But in addition to that irreplaceable bit of opinion, nice job on the review! Really well thought out, well delivered, and it helped me a great deal in deciding to look further into the gimbal. Frankly, I was considering a Movi Pro, but if this (inexpensive!) thing is as useable as you suggest, maybe it's the way to go. Thanks so much for your time and trouble. Cheers!
Hi Hugh again, hope you are well and I have a question, loving my S3, ok, it's got some weight and in looking for a shoulder strap type system I cannot find anything, lots for Ronin and the S2, any advice you can offer? Thanks in advance :-)
I’ve got an R6, using a battery grip, and RF L lenses. I’ve tried to Weebill S, but the eyepiece hits the rear motor - I was so bummed! I’m looking forward to getting my Crane!!
those shakes are not because of the Gimbal but because of YOU haha... your camera is literally TOO light for that gimbal and the motor is doing more than your suggesting it to... make sure to properly calibrate and make sure you've added weights if its still shaking and then go from there
I understand what you're saying but the camera with heavy cine lens and adaptor isn't that light. Also when used with 70-200 lens. I've see similar movement in videos where guys used Ursa Mini's.
friend, Thank you 🙏 for answering. I have not slept at night for 3 months now and am trying to resolve the issue. When you move forward backward straight, everything does not shake, the picture does not twitch? My picture is twitching. How did you balance the camera on the gimbal? Teach me friend. Please help 🤝🙏I heard somewhere that the problem is that 🎥 Blackmagic 6K's camera is very wide. How do you put the power of the motor? - in AUTO mode? It's not even a matter of weight, and the author says about this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WOR1aGVXZu0.html. EXTERNAL CAMERA SUPPLY HOW DID YOU DONE? I BOUGHT A PLATFORM WITH A BATTERY. WHERE DID YOU INSTALL THIS SITE SO THAT WAS LESS VIBRATION? THANKS IN ADVANCE 🙏 🤝🤝🤝WAIT EXPERTISE FOR AN ANSWER
@@very9000 Hi, I appreciate you asking me these questions to seek knowledge but the best thing to do is join the Zhiyun FB group and put up a post there/. That way you'll have a lot more suggestions and tips than what I can go into here.
Great video! Bigger cameras work way better because of the weight. We are going to get this for our House Red Dragon. Looks like it can handle it for sure.
I would look into the slightly smaller Crane 2s or a Ronin sc maybe. Depends on weight of the lens. tis gimbal is really best suited to heavier cameras but that's just my opninion.
Smooth work with gimbals and Steadicam are are like ballet moves or dancing smoothly. It's an art that takes practice. In short, it's not totally up to the equipment to make you video creamy smooth. When you get the "duck walk" down the smooth will happen.
Hugh Sweeney yeah I watched a few videos to decide if I wanted to buy it, and they said changing that setting made a massive difference and took out the shake.
Subscribed, thank you for honest and informative review. Thinking of which gimbal to buy - If you have any suggestions would really appreciate it. I've read alot of reviews with shakiness on this one
It's hard to know exactly what one is best when there's so many. The new 2s may be better for you if you don't have a heavy camera. Thanks a lot for the sub, really appreciate it.
I have my S1H with a 24-70mm 2.8 on a Ronin S and its really a Bit of a struggle for the ronin. Especially when i want to 360 roll. And the camera has to be perfectly balanced. But i think i will Stick to my ronin for now. Good video as always Coach kavanagh :)
Hi! I've trying to find a Gimbal for my Canon XA50 video camera, but so hard to find any information. Do you know or think I can use that camera on this Gimbal?
i wouldnt say i shoot with a heavy set-up, but my lenses are pretty heavy. my body is pretty light way lighter than the lenses. the issues i have is balancing the camera. front end is always heavier. is the quick release plate pretty long? to push the camera to the back to balance out? alot of gimbals will hit the back motor but this gimbal looks really huge with a lot of clearance. Do u recommend?
Align the plate to the centre of gravity of the camera with lens on and it should be well balanced. If you use adapted lenses it might work well if you fit the plate to the adaptor via a bracket.
seems unlikely that this gimbal should have those wobble issues, because the earlier zhiyun gimbals "1 and 2" don't have that problem, I have owned both of them, they have always been super smooth.
Yeah, you'd think. But this is a different beast. I watched a good few other reviews on it and saw some movement. I'm still convinced I can get it smoother but as for now, the camera is balanced perfectly. Thanks for the comment Matt.
@@EvenBiggerChungus its debatable. The 24-70 is a heavy lens and should be enough to engage the motors fully. It's not this I would say. Theres videos of Ursa mini's on this gimbal that show similar wobble to what I'm getting.
Great review, thanks! I wonder if it will still pack into the carry case with the extension arm attached? It seems like not. I run a Pocket 6K with relatively heavy rigging (full cage, heavy Zeiss glass, full size focus motor, tentacle timecode box) and I wonder if I'd want to leave that extension installed pretty much all the time, or if I'd need it at all.
You won't know 'til you try it. Honestly, if using the arm I'd recommend just leaving it on. Switching it often might cause damage to the fine wires to the motor.
I eventually found a another reviewer who managed to fit the gimbal into the factory box WITH the extension arm attached! So it seems they must've thought that far ahead. I'm relieved, and will be ordering one in the coming weeks.
@@johnallerston as a matter of fact, it's pretty great, once you get all the quirks worked out. The app is weak, but the hardware is incredibly strong. But it's also WAY too heavy, and much easier to run with the SmallRig ring added. I run it with a heavy, fully rigged Z-cam E2F6, and a friend has even run it with a RED (DSMC2, not sure exactly which one, but not the Komodo).
