You're correct. "The Singer" was his big break into the international spotlight. "S.O.S." was his first performance, and the response was so overwhelming that he woke up the next morning with a body guard assigned to him. He thought they were joking, but no. This was his second performance. He was also the youngest contestant ever on the show. He came in 2nd because they had a rule against giving the prize money to a foreigner. All the contestants are professionals invited to perform. in the two or three years after this show, I also discovered Hua Chenyu and Zhou Shen on this same program. I have a Chinese doctor who steered me to the program.
I enjoyed watching your Pentatonix reactions for a long time. Fortunately, I found Dimash in the summer of 2017 on "The Singer," when I was bummed out that Avi Kaplan was leaving Pentatonix AND by the fact that their video production dropped way off for a months on end. Dimash to the rescue, and it wasn't long before I was using BEST to describe him, too.

I seen thousands of singers in my lifetime and never heard a singer with so much control over vocals. The emotion and the ability to convey what he feels while he is singing the song is phenomenal. Any language and his music will speak to you long before the words do. Stage presence is awesome.
