Love these walls and the fact that these are quarrt dust blocks. Love the size of the building. Question, at what stage does windows go in, and weren't they suppose to go in when you were plastering the outside wall?
I just found you today by doing a search "building in Ghana". I love this video because I live in the Virgin Islands (Br.) in the Caribbean and our lands are mostly hilly/steep and I always want to see how builders build homes in Ghana on sloped land, because I prefer elevated land. I saw another of your video talking about pitched roofs vs hidden, but the first video that got me here was your "Window shopping" video. I have also been quite interested in anything window, because I am not use to these burglar bars in my country, so now thinking on moving and building in Ghana, I want to see homes that are secure that don't require those bars. I am now a new Sub.
@@nadinedesouza8496 fantastic welcome to our channel, take your time and see the videos and playlist I’m sure you will find lots of them useful. Stay tuned !
I like the concept of the "grid switch. I have been thinking so much about how to turn on/off the kitchen appliances without the hustle and bustle of pulling them out. thanks for the info. where can I get one to buy, is it available in Ghana market?
Am not if the grid switch is available on the Ghanaian market but a competent electrician should be able adapt what is available locally on the same principle.
I did watch this project for the first time when you guys showed the location. The architectural drawing is beautiful but I will never build and live in the hilly rocky terrain. The view alone is not enough. After building, living in such an area, day to day movement, rainy season, in an emergency getting easy access is a lot to consider so for that reason , living in this area is a no for me but to each his own. Kudos to you guys for taking on this project.
Nikki and Prince, there's a reason why both of you left your busy schedules abroad to come down to supervise your construction personally. If I were committing this much funds into a project in Ghana, I bet you I won't expect anything less than what you guys did.
In Ghana , on the ground presence by the general contractor, project manager or foreman is essential. Most of these artisans don't have the technical nous. Their attention to detail is lacking. Most projects that don't go well are due to the lack of supervision and someone who has the technical wherewithal to bring the various trades together. If you want to avoid issues down the road, then either you or someone with the same vested interest must be on the ground.
Yes this project requires regular supervision & technical oversight. This project has a full technical team around the daily construction and we’re blessed to have Mike and Columbus to keep our standards.
Yes this terrain is challenging, you have to really adapt usually ways of using machinery etc to work up there. Challenges can be getting companies up there.
As indicated, you don't have a bedroom downstairs. Don't you subscribe to the notion that it's prudent to have a bedroom downstairs in the event that one would not be able to climb the stairs when one gets older?
@@denniscasely-hayford3245 we designed the home to be adaptable if required. There are multiple areas which can be converted to bedrooms with a stud wall at any time. However for now it’s not required and would be unutilised space. Thanks for watching
@@princenikki Thank you for the response. Actually, it would have been a good idea to have put the designated upstairs guest bedroom downstairs. This way, it can be utilized now by guests and in the future by you, if appropriate. Nonetheless, I respect your response. Cheers.
@@princenikki I am not talking about not seeing physical fittings or furniture, rather I don't see concrete demarcated areas in your video for walk-in closets or built-in wardrobes. Unless, your plan is to buy standalone wardrobes.
1. The grading of the garage and the front will be difficult to achieve post construction if it's not already taken care of in the foundation. 2. Does a dpc treatment have to be above foundation level for it to be effective? 3. Prince why didn't the foundation on the entire front go lower to take care of the grading of the front view? Going by the 3D rendering it looks like the front sits level to the ground? Humble observation. Will appreciate a response. Thanks
Hi Thanks for your comments. Please see our response below: 1. The 3D image did not take into consideration the existing grading or slope of the land. There is approximately 4ft between the highest part of the land and the lowest point. As the roads have not yet been constructed, we factored in the level of the future road construction and the filling to make up levels. It’s important to note, that the Ghanaian building code requires all houses to be higher than the road and drains into gutters outside the house. There would be a ramp into the garage and steps into the house. We have taken full site measurements alongside the road level and have built the foundation based on the final finish level. As noted in the video the rear and to the right of the property, the land is higher, as part of the final landscaping and external groundwork’s this will be levelled to ensure the home is higher then the road and levels will slope to the road. 2. Yes, the DPC must be installed after the slab, minimum of 150mm above the highest point of the land. 3. In addition, to response 1 above, lowering the front of the house would require steps at different levels in through out the ground floor. The design is to achieve one level finish throughout the ground floor. We have an extensive external package, which depicts the 3D rendering. Thanks for watching.
Hello Prince and Nikki . I hope you're well and kids. Things are now coming together for your house 🏡 and I am very proud of both of you, too.😊😊❤. I understand the language that your husband Prince is speaking with Kojo.
I am a Black American man, building a four-story apartment building in Accra, Ghana. I have always had this strong propensity to visit the African Continent in 2020. I wanted to see and experience it for myself. Something deep within the vaults of my heart was tugging at my desire to visit the motherland and create my own memories. Having said that, I started my project in April of 2022 and I anticipate completing it in September of 2024. I return back to my hometown of Columbus, Ohio in December 2023 because of my multiple family emergencies. I am going to start my MAGA RU-vid Channel (MAGA = Make Africa Great Again) in the near or immediate future. I will discuss my experiences in East Africa (Kenya) and West Africa (Ghana) ... the Channel will focus on building a business as well as a home in Africa. I have plenty of new content, Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to update my page with the latest updates or videos - things are on pause at the moment because of the various "Time Constraints" I am under as a direct result of dealing with my various family emergencies. Lastly, I’ll like to add while Africa certainly has some of the most extensive and unique viewing opportunities on the African continent. I strongly recommend that every black american should find a reasons to vacation in Africa (Stop spending your money in Europe and Asia), because the African continent has something that is going to appeal to you intellectually, spiritually, as well as physically with its unique landscapes, ancient history, geographical wonders (just to mention a few). If you want to see my project … do a youtube search on “Joint Venture Ghana 🇬🇭 “ In closing, in the immortal words of my late and great grandfather … “make it make sense boy!”

Hii prince & Nikki, pls i have a question. I base outside the country and i have been watching some of your video's and i love them very impressive. so the question is how do i save money in building cus i have got my drawings etc down, is it profitable to pay the engineer for supervisor and i pay the workers in the terms of plumbing, electrical works i would tell them how i want it to be done, like the electrical cus i would like to have the European standard not the uk standard, where the control switch will be etc.. and many others. Pls what are ur advice..? Thank you:)
Building from abroad on a DIY basis can save money, but it’s not for everyone. This is because, while engaging individual tradesmen and a supervisor can yield some savings, the quality cannot be guaranteed and there is no single point of responsibility like a contractor. The building process is complex and requires a lot of coordination between trades and works to achieve the best quality outcomes. Good to see you guys settle on a window company! Congratulations! Single paned shouldn’t be the choice simply because you have burglar proof in place though. Double glazing provides insulation which in turn will save you on cooling charges for a long time. It will pay for itself and worth looking into.

Absolutely ! Been there with sliding before 🤯 deffo get more air inside with casement, however I really do rate the quality on the sliding if it’s within people’s budget you just need to make sure they are sealed well and have the right security etc
