Maybe I don’t need my expectations subverted. Maybe I don’t want a poor man’s Rian Johnson directing horror movies. And maybe I don’t need someone who is too lazy to consult an anatomist or a plastic surgeon to explain to him how much an ear bleeds when half of it is shot off or where the IJ vein is located and how fast it would bleed if lacerated while someone is standing up.

The grandmother being an over the top, mustache twirling, hand wringing villain was too much for me. I get why every girl I saw in middle and high school in the 90's read this as a way to be edgy and dip their toes in some taboos.

I feel like "Under the Skin" would fit into Cosmic Horror, your take on Creature Feature (i love the distinction you make w Eco Horror), Sci-Fi Horror and as some kind of Slasher movie? idk lmao not sure why that's the movie i had stuck in my head throughout this whole ranking but.. yeah Really cool video format, love the recommendations as well !

I feel the same way about slashers, it feels wrong to call a new movie a slasher, like it already culminated so why bother or something like that

Meta slashers definitely excite me....The Final Girls and Happy Death Day especially! In other categories it was nice to see The Frighteners get some love, a lot of people don't like it but I find it a lot of fun. I love that you put splatter at the bottom (it's much higher for me personally) but your favorite splatter movie is literally the goriest film ever made haha. Fantastic list! :)

We have some of the same tastes and some completely opposite tastes 😆 but this was cool to get an overview of your views! It's so hard to define all these genres, especially when so many films mix and match many of them at once. Could be why there's never one I feel like I can blanket state I don't like because there ALWAYS gonna be exceptions somewhere and I find there's different ones I gravitate towards depending on mood as well.
@woodsro

Oh also I feel like there's some genres I absolutely love IN THEORY but there's just so many bad or completely unsuccessful films made in them that overall that I dread watching them 😆 Also also I feel like Cosmic Horror and Occult Horror as so closely related but you have them so far apart which makes me SOOOOO intrigued to see what you think of the film History of the Occult (2020, copy in the dropbox 😉)

Not fussed on found footage horror as dunno what’s real and not but Comedy horror is my least favourite as IMO they shouldn’t go together but one of my fave movies is American werewolf in London which has moments of dark comedy and that’s the most comedy and horror should mix 😎👍🏻

Cosmic horror, body horror, erotic horror, horror comedy, horror adventure, medical horror and creature features are some of my favorite horror subgenres. On a slightly lower level, horror anthologies and dystopian/apocalyptic horror. My favorite part of dystopian is people wandering around and exploring creepy places. My least favorite part is when they meet up with a group of people who are obviously evil and they give them a chance anyway! (Walking Dead!) and now we're stuck in one place for a loooong time. Ugh

Only someone with a severe case of self-loathing would even think about actually using The Substance; anyone alcually using it is bound to abuse it, because the reason they're using it at all is fucked up. That older guy Elisabeth meets who was also using The Substance didn't look like he was doing so well, either.

This is one of the scariest and saddest and also hopeful movies I’ve ever seen and will never forget. I’ll qualify that with questions. 1. Where is Casey’s mom? 2. JLB’s home. Several sweeping shots as he moves through many rooms. Is it meant for a single person, couple, or family? 3. The room JLB chooses to Skype from, particularly at the end. Is that his room, a spare room, or does it look like a child’s room? And have we seen a child? 4. What does World’s Fair mean, and is it a substitute term for what we’re really discussing in this movie? 5. Was the Tarot reading Casey’s attempt to push JLB away, like a child lashing out? And are we so glad JLB didn’t get offended and take that bait? 6. When JLB was frantically going through the house near the end, and he sat down and looked at that blank tv, do you think he was thinking about how he used to check out before? How he would avoid before, maybe with someone else, and he said No, Not This Time, and he was holding that computer screen for Casey AND for someone else, someone he wished could just make more videos? 7. Is JLB baiting her along, or has he seen this before and just scared shitless he’ll do the wrong thing, say the wrong thing? So is he just trying to be supportive and show interest as he really tries to help Casey?

I saw it a couple days ago and I'm about to take my mom to see it again tomorrow! I literally cannot stop thinking about this movie, so many aspects of it that just floored me. One of my favorite parts in the third act was how the "monster" had rips in her dress and the things hanging out were boobs, and she literally shed a boob from her head like it's Elizabeth saying "this is what you want, right?!" ughhhh there's so much to this movie. I LOVE the spraying of blood everywhere too, it's like Elizabeth's final "fuck you" to everyone and the industry as a whole. Best movie of the year for me BY FARRRRR

Movie Number 2 is worst From her pelvis So many different men doing bad things to her I don't understand what the director was thinking I believe it kind of opened a few people's eyes regarding modelling it's not everybody you must travel abroad to do modelling for everything else you have to wonder was this a desire from the director because it's sickening just to watch as a woman and uncomfortable

I didn't see this movie yet (hopefully soon) and have been watching reviews all day because I'm under the weather. YOUR REVIEW IS THE BEST!! You totally nailed it, saying that people are ageist even if someone looks amazing (like Demi Moore). It's same as the bullies hating on someone beautiful, saying she's ugly just because she's not like the rest (as in the movie "Carrie.") Also like the episode of The Twilight Zone when the beautiful couple took off their masks and the doctors were mortified, viewing them as ugly. Whatever vile of hate society is drinking from -- whether it's Hollywood on aging, or school bullies on the different one, or even people being racist. I'm so glad they choose someone super hot like Demi Moore to drive the point across, you can be older and still look good yet not appreciate yourself because of what society tells us.

demi moore's performance in this...just breathtaking! She starts off with such a tragic air to her, being forced into basically an early retirement despite still being active, but by that 3 month transformation, the rage!! Ugh, the scene of her cooking while watching Sue's late night interview was SOOOO top-tier.

i couldn't stand this movie. i wanted to like it. so many things i normally--- body horror, excessive blood, social commentary, splatter but that final act made me roll my eyes repeatedly. it felt like a completely different camp movie than the rest. i normally have no problem suspending my disbelief, but everything after elizasue's title card irritated the f out of me.
@NessNayii
@NessNayii 10 дней назад
I felt that way all the way through it - I wanted to love it; I concur with its themes, love body horror, appreciate films with runtimes which allow them to breathe...but it left me cold. The whole thing was surface level, obvious, one dimensional, and tongue in cheek to the point of rendering the piece as a joke. For a film this wet and sticky, there was just no meat to chew on. Many of the lauded stylistic choices were lifted wholesale from other films. I didn't hate it, it just didn't do anything for me - with the exception of one scene: the part where she was applying her makeup for her date. For me, this was the only scene with any emotional resonance. More of that and fewer endless arse shots would have benefitted this one.

If David Cronanberg made a Jekyll and Hyde movie amdnyes Dorian Grey never thoufht of that one, and you can see that this director was a Cronanberg fan, yeah, the trailer hid that well. I was expecting her to transform physically, but no, how wrong I was also Demi Moore she looks incredible for 62.
