Thanks for visiting my channel. I am a man well and truly bitten by OCD ( obsessive camping disorder ), who loves exploring wild and remote parts of the UK. As a person who has always struggled with anxiety, it's my life detox and the more remote it is, the more I enjoy it. You'll find me wild camping and staying in bothies, all using equipment that doesn't break the bank. I'm certainly not made of money! I also love being active, so if there is a challenging mountain to climb or a testing route to hike or cycle, then you may well find me taking it on. Please subscribe and comment if you like my videos as I would love to know what you think and how they could be further improved in the future.
I was at this beach only a couple of weeks ago - I find the salty sea air perfect to help me breathe on the days when my Hay Fever is off the scale. It's rather frightening how much this stretch has changed in the last two years, but erosion is a constant battle (which some places along the East Anglian coast are sadly losing). It's worth noting that East Anglia has the lowest rainfall in the UK so the signs against camps, fires etc are for your own protection as the coastal fauna of bracken can easily become tinder dry and if there's an easterly wind off the North Sea - fire would sweep inland for some miles very quickly. You mention you are a Geography teacher, an one of the wildest things I can never get my head around is that this stretch of coastland was once linked to mainland Europe.
I have been researching this particular valley for about 5 days now and as soon as I saw it on something (not sure what) I thought I need to visit this place. I have been up Plumlumon Fawr but never done any wild camping & walking in the area.. this is high on my list. To actually find a video of the very spot I was looking for (at the time I had no idea where it was) I am more eager to get there.. thanks for videoing your adventure.. Great watch. atb Alan
We camped on the next beach around. The walk in from the end of the road was lovely until the path disappeared and we too had to descend the cliffs. Instead of midges we had a delightful tick experience. I am still itching two weeks later. It is a stunning island and we are definitely going back.
It's a life long dream of mine to go to Jura and see Corryvreckan. Also climb the Paps. Did you not consider the foot ferry from Tayvallich? Have you any idea what weight you were carrying and what food did take?
Didn't know about that ferry until after I returned. As for weight, I don't know but was travelling with fire logs and plenty of food to start. Got lighter though by the end. Hope you have a great trip. Happy to help in any way if I can. Cheers.
You are correct, they are useless in the wet. Why would anyone want goretex uppers with poor grip soles. They have been like this for years. Just google them. Not for for purpose
Hi Dan. Great vid👍 You can't beat a real fire. Looks a great bothy. I hope to make it there this year. Hope you are okay mate. No vids for quite some time.👋
The north west Coast of Jura is fabulous, hard walking but worth it. If you ever go again add Corpach Bay, Shian Bay, Ruantallain Bothy and Cruib bothy to your list..
Hi Dan. Brilliant start to your vid. Nice camp site. Great fire. Tent by the river looked awesome. Freezing cold water you crossed 👏👏👍 Liked the titanic description to the cold water😁👍 Really good watch. Hope you can get out again soon.👋
What a fantastic video Dan, Thank you I really enjoyed it, what an incredible place. As a wild camper its heart-breaking to see that sign, I was looking forward to a sneaky over nighter around the beach/ forest ...shame.
I look back and smile at the memories of this trip but that first day was an absolute killer. I think I was on my feet for a good ten hours or so in the end.
Iam a yorkshire lass bronte country haworth good try at the accent not easiest to do I don't like my accent all my sotheren friends love it can't think why lol 😅❤😅
Beautiful walk but i should imagine it was hard going. Thankyou eversomuch for the maps showing where you are . I am a mapaholic so love following you . Thankyou
Perfect day and views. Thanks for that. I'm going around a few bothies and soon picking one for the night. Thanks for the vids. Really good and helpful. Encourages others to go outside. 👍
Hi Dan. Really good vid. Love seeing the snow. Cracking bothy, great fire, beautiful night sky and Whisky. 23 deg!👏👏 So many bothies in Scotland. Brilliant. 👍
Mate you are wearing the wrong colours for that part of the world in the Summer months, no wonder there were midgies everywhere! Stick to dark colours, nothing yellow or orange.
FairPlay Dan, you go to some wild places and that was stunning, absolutely beautiful- you deserve a lot more subscribers. Need to get our arses to Scotland we are missing out! ATB Mark & Simon 👌👍
Yes Scotland is just another level in every respect it must be said, Shame it's so far away though. Need to get back to Wales myself soon. Been nearly 4 months since the last visit. Thanks for watching.
No idea how I missed this one Dan! Fantastic as ever mate, with spectacular scenery set to a great soundtrack! That bothy was HUGE! Thanks again for sharing
A couple of years back myself and my boyfriend hiked up to Loch Etchachan over Derry Cairngorm and set up a tent for the night just as it was getting dark. Turns out that wasn't a great idea as we spent a cold, loud, sleepless night being battered by constant 30mph winds with gusts up to 60, with the tent eventually collapsing and shredding at 6 am just as it was dawning (Our first 'serious' camp with an amazon tent, it was a hard lesson). I can't describe the relief we felt once we started hiking down and came across the Hutchinson Memorial Hut. How lovely and warm and quiet it was in there to make a bit of breakfast porridge and take a mid morning nap. A very special place.
Hi Dan , just subbed and what a great video of your epic adventure and reminded me of a similar trip I did a while back in similar conditions, no stove in the hutchy then so was warmer to sleep in the tent. I was thinking where is that bothy Red house and glad you said it was a new one. Brilliant. Again I really enjoyed this. Cheers Dan 🏕️👍
Great to see you Dan - and looked like you and Jack had a great adventure! Beautiful scenes in that snow! Thanks as always for sharing, I will be sure to stop by Jack's channel! All the best, Marcus
Those orange aluminium "hooks" at the end of the guy ropes arent hooks, they are line tensioners and should go half way up the guy lines and make a loop that can be adjusted mate, theyll snap if you put pegs though them.
