Hello, I'm Laurence, an art obsessed human! I definitely do not have enough time in a day for all the art projects I want to do so I try to do the most and document it here. My main medium is watercolors, but I'm often trying other ones. Welcome to my channel!
Such lovely colors Laurence! Thanks for walking us through your selections & thought process. Hope you do a lil update to let us know how you are gettin on with the new selection. Hope you are doing well. Until next time…👋💜👋
Enjoyable. I have given up on the more pale yellows, since I don't need them. I mix buff titanium with my medium yellow or add more water, depending on needs. However, I consider PY110 (I use M. Graham's Indian Yellow) essential. I love it so much. You may also enjoy it!
Perfect timing on this video since it's reaching temps of almost 100 degrees here, the snowy landscape looks like a dream! I may watch a few more times to trick my brain into thinking it's not so hot 🌝
You should add a link to Part 1 in the description. Thank you for the wonderful tips! I have a small set of 15, but today the full 84 are coming and I'm so excited!
Haha! The Opus card made me laugh! Every time I’ve travelled I’m worried I’ve misplaced it when I get back because I’m going to need it! Also, “pochade” comes from French so technically , tu n’as qu’à le dire en français et tu serais correcte. Can’t wait to see more of your landscapes! Welcome back!
I put it in my phone case now, I use to loose it all the time! I didn’t remember putting it there before leaving though and turns out it was expired 🤷♀️ I think pochade is going into the list of words I will not attempt to pronounce with an English accent! Can’t wait to use it more though :)
Welcome home. I love your gifts for the family. May I ask if your statues are made of stone? They certainly appear so. If so, what kind of stone has beautiful white lines running through? Your gift from Meeden seems like a great choice for you. You could always make it work in different ways for you, such as placing magnetic sheets of metal to attach palettes, metal cups etc. I have seen several RU-vidrs doing such things. Meeden are a great company. Their cotton paper is very good, as are their empty palettes, and they make the most beautiful ceramic double water cup that is perfect for studio work. They are becoming very well known for ceramic palettes as they are excellent quality and not at all expensive. I know I have not regretted my purchases. Happy painting!! 🖌️🎨👩🏻🎨
They are made out of soapstone! Most Inuit carvings I’ve seen were made with this type of stones. Metal cups is such a good idea! I’ll try to find videos like you mentioned. Meeden has so many interesting products on their site, there’s a bunch that I’d like to try 😍
I have seen Leslie Stroz and Sarah Burns add one drop of vegetable glycerine to prevent cracking while setting up their dry gouache palettes. Check them out for more details. It seems to have worked for them.
Omg thank you so much!! Such a lovely review - I'm glad it's helped you feel a little bit less intimidated to get started. Looking forward to seeing what you make in your pottery era 💅
@LaurenceP-art Aww, bless you. Awful in that it sounds stretched somehow, very discordant, to the point it put my teeth on edge. Thank you for responding, and I will watch a newer video now I know you've altered that. Sweet dreams 😴
@wendyb4741 oh I’m so sorry! I’ll listen back to it this week to see if I hear it and what could have caused that. If you watch one of my newer videos, please let me know if you like them better. Thank you for your constructive criticism 💕
Honey, the Albrecht Dürer Dark Chrome Yellow is EXACTLY the same color as the Museum Aquarelle Gold Cadmium Yellow. Like EXACTLY the same. I have both sets and those 2 I use interchangeably. 😉
Love your style❤️ I was painting and watching because I’m so excited for my new inktense water colors. I try to learn how to draw and paint more loose and relax. It’s so difficult but I love it!
This is the best!!! I always have a video in the background when I paint and I peek at it from time to time for inspiration. Does Derwent have Inktense watercolours? Or are you taking about the watercolor pencils?
Thanks for this. I'm used to gouache but have been thinking about trying acrylic gouache. It looks more matte and flat, but also brighter and more saturated, which could be quite interesting. Loved both your colour palettes as well. 😊
Yes I think I prefer the acrylic gouache as well… I think that when it comes to to water reactivating media, I better stick with watercolours and I could use acrylic gouache instead of plain acrylic. I like that they are matte :)
It’s really interesting to see the differences side by side! The Acrylic Gouache is so crisp and flat, where the regular Gouache gives a more painterly effect with depth. Professional Gouache also is a completely different experience than the Jelly Gouache! It’s so creamy and rich even when watered down. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you found it useful. I also have the jelly gouache set and while they’re fun to play with, there’s such a big difference with regular gouache! But I also love the look of acrylic gouache… tough choice!
It was fascinating watching you use the Neocolor 2 pastels. I have the large set but have never used it as I couldn't figure out how it could be used in the type of art I do. Now I can see all kinds of ways to use the pastels. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise.
Keep up the swatches! That was very successful. I love those. It helps in research and to save money. I intentionally never watch art haul videos because I feel they push spending irresponsibly and promote commercialism.
I haven’t done a swatch video in a little while but they’re so fun to do! I’ll try to do more :) I understand your take on art haul videos. On one hand, I feel the same way, but on the other, I find them very hard to resist, especially when they’re from a RU-vidr I enjoy watching!
I don’t mind art hauls for the simple reason that it is how I find out about products I don’t already know about. However, I also don’t have full set syndrome or need everything I see.
I always like seeing how artists transformed an image into a painting so i thought I’d do the same! And give the opportunity for people to paint with me if they want :)
