Hello! I'm Lynn, a fantasy and sci-fi writer. This is a space for me to share my writing journey and some of the lessons I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoy your stay!
hi lynn! i'm an intermediate writer and i love how you work with your stories! i enjoyed watching your videos and i was able to learn some stuff on creating a fantasy story. it was one of the genres that was hard for me to make (esp planning out magic system, worldbuilding, politics, etc) and i was hoping i could make a first ever fantasy story!
Thank you so much for bringing up Palestine. Palestine is one of my life's great loves, and the people I know there and from there are some of the best I've ever known. They don't deserve what's happening. No one does. 💔♥️🇵🇸🍉
I’m so excited to hear more about Project Crypts! I love reading gothic fantasy! It’s so exciting to work on something new after working on another project (in your case, MOTHS) for so long! I’m looking forward to hearing more about it! Good luck with your Masters program! I hope we get to see more of your campus, too. 🥰 Are you also planning on querying MOTHS soon? 👀 I’m excited for you! 🥳
I set up a book planner in Notion and started a little research on the replay! I love how productive I can be when I'm being held 'accountable'. These lives are heaven for my ADHD. 😅
@@lynndjung I tried to submit a chapter for it, but there wasn't a place to upload the chapter :'( Did I do something wrong or will you be contacting people to ask them to send it? Really excited to see your feedback on whoever you choose!
I got some challenging edits done during the replay. Thanks for doing these, the timing is amazing because I'll be done with the edits on my current project probably the end of June, and when you start your weekly streams in July I'll be working on a new novel I'm excited about!
Hello!! YOUR VIDS ARE AMAZING💕any tips for making author/booktube youtube videos? Im a upcoming indie author trying to first build a community on youtube!!
Hi, thank you so much! I would say just make the types of videos you enjoy the most, share as much of your journey as you're comfortable with, and have fun with it <3
8:40 You could try looking into how religions are generally built with a mass appeal (public aspect) and an initiate side to them (secret/mystery/mystic aspect)
I'm still new here (and catching up on your Moths vlogs 😅), so imagine my surprise to find out you're starting a new project 🙌🏾 Your process sounds entirely doable - All the best with this new WIP! 💜
I loved this vlog! So calming and so fun to listen to you talk through religion building and this new project!! Everything you’re trying to pull through in this project from your research sounds so amazing - can’t wait to follow along! 💗
Oooh i also love the vibe of ghost like things... i tend to write about hauntings in the way that memories haunt characters, i just gravitate to the brain doing weird things sometimes LOL
The starting and stopping projects thing is so relatable. I've started and shelved 5-6 projects/ideas in the past month because they either got too big, needed too many fixes to make them work, or I felt like I couldn't do them justice yet with where my writing skill is.
A Crimson Peak-style gothic thriller with renaissance politics? To my complete lack of surprise, you have me hooked. Religions typically begin as niche and esoteric ... and then they gain power and the problems happen. For worldbuilding, I wouldn't worry about the religion itself having logic, as long as you give logic to the progression of society's treatment of it. That was a nice garden you found. Sorry you had to cross paths with a rabbit though. At least there was some distance and at least it chose the opposite direction. Any time a rabbit comes at me, I run like hell.
YAYYY Project crypts!!!! i've been so excited to hear you chat about this ever since i saw your moodboards for it hehehe :D it's gonna be so iconic omg.
@@lynndjung also, if you’re willing to share more, maybe I miss some of it but your journey to getting a masters in education sounds very interesting. I also wanna do that I want to teach college, become a professor. ❤️
As someone who is currently working on a dual-POV project, I do not blame you one bit for dropping that idea. In many ways,. writing like that can feel like such a masochistic venture. But I'd argue that I'm a bit of a masochistic writer myself, so perhaps writing in such a way is the only way that I can feel fulfillment as a writer (cries.)_ Although, there is a part of me that wonders if writing your story with one, singular POV might actually be the harder option in the long run. Since you did mention that you want things to get super complicated with the politics and have everyone's lives fall apart by the end, having those extra perspectives can add to that effect. And, at least for television anyway, that does seem to be the norm. Of course, novels are a completely different medium in that regard.
that's what I keep going back and forth on as well! tbh for this story I feel like I'm better off narrowing the scope and focusing the personal impacts of the greater world conflict if that makes sense? As well as their individual roles. I'm really interested in the concept of one person's choices having ripple effects throughout society that they don't feel or notice immediately. but yeah there's a lot to consider! ty for the thoughtful comment and for watching!
oh god outlines/planning/research saves lives! i've come to love the slowcooking process. also! project crypt sounds FANTASTIC like exactly the sort of book i'd pick off a bookshelf after having read that premise. excited to follow this series!! :)
I love watching the slice of life montages :)) I find the Renaissance period so fascinating and I love the exploration of politics and romance and YEARNING. I can't wait to read CRYPTS <3
This is remarkable content and it has all round helped me develop the romance for my novel where I had been having issues because I'm not the most comfortable with actually writing the romance part of my romance novels. Thanks a lot for the notes.
Am i the only one who wanted Aurora to succeed in her plan? Like your fiance cheats on you with ur best friend and both are talking about getting married behind your back? OHHHHH I would be hot.
I’m really late to this video, but this advice is great! My main WIP is a Primary World fantasy that draws from essentially every culture’s mythology (though not all of them are explicitly mentioned, it’s stated that all forms of magic are ‘canon’). I really want one of my characters to have connections to Japanese mythology and history, particularly relating to dragons and divination. How would I go about finding sources and dealing with this in a semi-accurate and culturally sensitive way?
Here for the cuestions! 😂 I love the bat clips! So cute! And boba! And homemade Ding Dongs! Yum! Excited to see your progress on A CLOSET FULL OF CAULDRONS! 😍
While it is possible to work a full-time writer job, this is not what I expect, though. ***Novelist*** or ***Creative Writer*** is usually not a job that people can apply for and get paid for on a regular basis. Usually, people get to the full-time novelist or creative writer status, when they earn enough royalties to support themselves. So, in a way, they are kind of relying on the success of previous books. If they can't support themselves though, then they may have some family member(s) who are supporting them. Parents. Grandparents. Significant other.
